Great with family, school schedule will change tomorrow. Need some innovate ways to teacher ELA. :)
Sorry, cannot copy paste --- :)
Hi Laigha - you’re becoming a ‘regular’ here! So glad to have you join in.
Yes I participated in the holiday card. Class enjoyed it!
A1 Yes, we love ! Do all of them, all too good to miss!
thank you --- it has been a joy to host them.
How is everything with you besides your QB? ;)
A1b: would really suggest oreo challenge and holiday card exchange
Hello ! Long time, no see! Glad to be here
A1B: Join them all! But if I have to choose one it would be the O.R.E.O. Project.
Sylvia has been a rock of support for a very long time.
What are you thinking about “innovative” - bet your friends here can help out.
I have not done any but maybe I can try some with my before school kids
Hello, popping in late! I'm Robin from DeLand, Florida
Easy to support great projects !
Hey everyone! Nate from Nebraska. Elementary Integration Specialist.
Hosting a GHO on Thursday to do our Oreo stacking against several other classes and then playing about Oreos.
OMGosh - can you believe that..first TB & now Garappolo…yikes! Other than that things good.
A1-No I have never participated but can't wait to hear about the projects!
something besides the typical writing out the words 5X each.
Hi, Nate, love your new title. How are things?
Things are great here. How are you?
Getting ready for Q2 -- for
A1b: Also love getting all of the cards from other school during the Holiday Card Exchange project that hosts.
Hooray! You’re here! :) That’s what I like to see!
Q1: Yes! O.R.E.O project and my fav: Shoeless & Bark (Lewis & Clark).
yep -- I like that one too --- Sometimes I get over 500 cards
Finally feeling like things are settling in nicely this year.
Grading is a challenge this year! Would love to hear how Ts deal with late papers & absences! :)
Q2 --- --- What is a reason you can share with others FOR being involved in an online project?
Q2 --- --- What is a reason you can share with others FOR being involved in an online project?
One of my favorite as well. https://t.co/QHn2pY3ldL
A1b: Also love getting all of the cards from other school during the Holiday Card Exchange project that hosts.
I participated in the Holiday Card exchange too (forgot about that!. Kids really love it!
Q3: Connecting students to a larger audience and with other students!
A2 Online projects enable students to connect outside of their classroom-makes the world a smaller place
A2: Getting Ss engaged, breaking down the classroom walls, & sharing the learning are all important reasons for online projects.
Q2 Agree, anything I can do to reach outside our classroom and connect!
Q2: Connecting students to a larger audience and with other students!
Your students would LOVE the OREO project. Lots of great connections can be made.
A2: Ss can see what other have done and get excited for what they want to do, make goals based on what others have done ECT
Hi Robin - we love that you made it tonight! :)
A2: Being involved in online projects let’s our Ss see there is more to our learning than just within our 4 walls.
Anyone have an ideas how to spice up Vocb HW?
This sounds so fun - Ducks are hard to resist :)
A2- Students learn about the world beyond their community-it generates excitement!
yes, Shoeless and Bark -- especially first time -- was SUCH FUN!! Headache a bit to host -- but OHWOW, the learning
Nate!!!! How are you? Good to see you here tonight!
Q2: global collaboration and perspective, real world application of SS learning, fun and engaging, pre planned
Q3 is on it's way in just a few minutes ---
Ss add notesketch to journal & share info about word & why they drew the sketch to help them connect
I know - You had lots of great resources - but that was a lot of coordination on your part.
A2: Doing online projects let’s you do the 4C’s - connect, collaborate, create and think critically.
It was AMAZING what I learned. Both in hosting but also putting the project together. It was GRAND
Ready -- here is Q3 What is the importance of sharing a project with a classroom ON your campus?
Ready -- here is Q3 What is the importance of sharing a project with a classroom ON your campus?
Q2: Online projects make the learning ‘real’ for the Ss. They are excited to learn knowing there are others doing the same.
A3: for new and veteran Ts to try something new, I have already done it so I can be a first hand support if needed
A3: I'm all about kids building from each other. But, if it is something like O.R.E.O, a little competition is pretty healthy.
Talking/sharing ‘goals’ in projects like these can be very meaningful. https://t.co/15mRT7l3Kq
A2: Ss can see what other have done and get excited for what they want to do, make goals based on what others have done ECT
Also create games with your voc on Quizizz and assign for HW.
A3 Sharing with other classrooms may open new doors for tech reluctant teachers or teachers resistant to change
Sadly, the 2nd time hosting, many of the boxes never returned -- so a lot of those resources are now poof
A3-Sharing on your campus inspires other classes to join in - We had a Virtual Fieldtrip last week & shared!
We sketch something that helps us remember the key concepts behind the vocab word. Mostly Science right now.
When upper grades students walk past my room and we are doing a project, they all get excited and remember 4th grade!
Smiles -- the conversation seems to have stopped....but hopefully, you are able to share w/ those ON your campus too?
Q3: Connecting needs to begin with those on your campus and then spread out like rings in water.
It can also be good because older kids can work with younger kids on a project. Little Ss get an older buddy Bigger Ss get a helper
A2 Kids love learning with kids outside their classroom walls. Makes the learning relevant and fun!
I do try to share with my team but they usually think I am just crazy.
A3: Had a PreK class come to our room to participate in . My Ss ran stations for them to complete. Played Twister too.
sharing is good on campus, but sometimes we have more acceptance off campus :-)
It is easy for me to be an island -- inviting another class to join me helps me not be so isolated.
Q3: Sharing project ON campus brings classes closer together-creates a common experience to whichyou can refer throughout the year.
And I can hoard tech sometimes too - -- so inviting another class to join helps me to be more generous with sharing. :)
That just makes me crazy - I actually ADDED a resource - lol
The 5th graders have seen the Oreo cookies coming in and they ask if we are doing the O.R.E.O. Project.
I understand --- I host projects w/ teachers worldwide, but my own campus is still a bit reluctant https://t.co/haUS20GdxL
I do try to share with my team but they usually think I am just crazy.
Excellent point This is a great way to ease in with some direction from colleagues. https://t.co/0PylPK2nRr
A3 Sharing with other classrooms may open new doors for tech reluctant teachers or teachers resistant to change
That's great ! I love the "I remember doing..." comments
I'm doing well how are you?
Already thinking about March Book Madness - such a great experience for my students! (and me!)
Here we go -- -- Question 4: Q4 What are some benefits of sharing a project with a classroom BEYOND your campus?
A3 What better way to grow a collaborative atmosphere! Share! Just one person joining you on your campus can start a movement!
Ts on my campus are now asking when they will be invited to my room to see a project in action. Hip, hip hooray. Finally!!!
That’s another way to put classrooms together for a shared experience. What was your FT? https://t.co/XqK67ZD3dy
A3-Sharing on your campus inspires other classes to join in - We had a Virtual Fieldtrip last week & shared!
I believe it is a chat that keeps going over a few days or longer period of time. You keep coming back to it.
They were all smiles as they talked about how much fun they had during the O.R.E.O. Project.
Yes! loved that one too https://t.co/gM7kOXJSY7
Already thinking about March Book Madness - such a great experience for my students! (and me!)
I can take one tomorrow and share out. has a TON of great examples too.
Awesome! I'm starting to think about having students submit favorite books as they read them!
-- another question -- just wondering Q5 -- what do you need a project to consist of for you to consider using in your classroom?
A4: Kids love to see their work beyond their class. Sending it beyond will really make Ss appreciate it.
the O.R.E.O. project truly is STEAM --- however, in 1999 at it's beginning -- that was not even on our radar
I know what you’re saying…think I’m sometimes guilty of that. https://t.co/APuSFnlpa6
And I can hoard tech sometimes too - -- so inviting another class to join helps me to be more generous with sharing. :)
A5 I need to somehow work a project into my overflowing curriculum
A4 It is so nice to learn from and share with others about their school, location, ways of doing projects, etc.
A4: You also get to collaborate with more than just those on your school/district
A5: A project has to fit into my curriculum, have a way to be collaborative, and offer lots of creativity and fun.
A5: In today’s standards-based evaluations, I need the project to align with my standards for the subject I’m teaching.
A5 I have to be able to find the time or place for it in my busy schedule. Sad but true!
Love when we doing a licking contest on a Google Hangout with another class for the O.R.E.O. Project. That part is just FUN!
A5-I don't think I have done any "REAL" projects yet - Excited to learn from you all! Does Mystery Skype count? LOVE it!
Yes, calls definitely counts. We love them too!
A5: Projects need to be related to curriculum-the curr. connections the better. Needs to be engaging and promote open ended ?’s.
A5 It relates somehow to my curriculum, is engaging and hands on
Yes they count! Looking for some Mystery Skypes for my class. They are almost ready to start. Anyone available 2-3 CT?
A4: unique perspectives, global connection, real world applications, sharing really is caring, reflection of learning as SS and Ts
A5 pt.2 And should allow for future connections with other classes.
you do take the projects FAR beyond my expectations sometimes. :)
Have made 5 connections so far this school year. calls can lead to more collaborations between classes.
-- Question 6 is one I hope you will enjoy answering!!!
We have even built a ramp and had a contest to see whose Oreo rolled the farthest.
--- Question 6: Q6 What ideas do YOU have that could be turned into an online project?
--- Question 6: Q6 What ideas do YOU have that could be turned into an online project?
You have to guess the location of the other class using t or f questions! Fun
I think Mystery Location calls count - You are connecting & hopefully connecting w/ many.
You team up with another class and try to figure out each other's locations based on Yes/No clues
2 Classes connect and through a series of yes/no questions discover where each other is located. Skype or Hangout.
A6 I wish I could get active again. No one wants to take it on!
-- I am always looking for new project ideas -- so please share.
Nicely stated! :) https://t.co/DcxQeGXVvf
A4: unique perspectives, global connection, real world applications, sharing really is caring, reflection of learning as SS and Ts
A6 Mmmm, so hard to think right now with my Eagles on TV playing the Bears, but how about a project with a sports theme HA!
2 new projects this year are Poet-Tree & a project based on "The Day the Crayons Quit" (I get bored if I don't host new ideas)
That is awesome - not only measuring height but distances! :) Clever!
I still see students sitting all day in some classes without that-so sad !
Da Bears! Chicago big fan here! Living in WI :)
Q6: I hosted a blogging contest back on 12.12.12 every one who participated had to write a post about 12 things.
A6 - Becoming experts on your state and then sharing w/other states - animals, historical attractions, national & state parks
Q6: Wanted to try a “Green Screen” or Video project. Trying to come up w/ an idea-was thinking related to helping the environment.
A6 Blogging! Get my Ss writing a lot and reading others' writing
Hoping to Google hangout with .my peeps sometime later this school year.
Have also hosted one about Mardi Gras where my Ss taught other classes all about it. Pick something special to your area to share.
good idea -- we had something similar for National parks. :)
OMGosh - you would think I was a newbie to - I keep answering questions with a Q instead of an A…. :{
The Day The Crayons Quit is going to be VERY GREEN SCREEN!!! But I like your idea too!
A6 Last year I hosted a large online competition!
We HAVE to connect this year. It has been way too long.
Always feel guilty about the time I dropped the ball. I might try it again but I need to organize it diff w/ my class.
LOL, Nancy. We have all done that. I love when I forget the hashtag.
and it was soo fun. My team joined that one :)
Really excited about Poet-Tree!!
You can share at any time! No need to sign up unless you want to tweet out for the week. Just search hashtag :)
Maybe some local history research, then share globally
And it was awesome, Nate. Hope you will do so again this year. I’ll be more involved.
Thanks! We are excited, too!
Would you care to explain those 2 projects? Love the Poet-Tree title! https://t.co/BjxXtqHErJ
2 new projects this year are Poet-Tree & a project based on "The Day the Crayons Quit" (I get bored if I don't host new ideas)
its a small project -- under 100 participants -- but I think its going to be pretty wonderful
You didn't drop the ball!! is time consuming but really rewarding
We did tweet out for the week last year, yes, I will look up hashtag and get on it!
Totally planning on it!!!
We LOVE using to share our ideas. Then pick the one to share on Twitter with hashtag :)
I think I get it in my head that it has to be BIG and Global - but really it needs to be easy-right?
Crayons project -- each class will REWRITE book but with their own items -- LOTS of green screen. & Book Creator app
We connected with and recited poems and played for Poet-Tree.
Totally messed up the hashtag:
100% -- and then let it grow.
-- FINAL QUESTION coming up!!!
Sorry about that my friend had a little spit up that I had to help out with.
Been there & done that too! tee hee At least I’m in good company!
Feel like my Ss are still just getting going with routines. Gotta start !!
Routine has taken longer this year, but we are there finally!
--- FINAL QUESTION -- wow this went fast: Q7 -- What other collaborative projects have you heard about/ participated in?
--- FINAL QUESTION -- wow this went fast: Q7 -- What other collaborative projects have you heard about/ participated in?
Let’s think on this - I have dropped the ball on Blogging altogether - need to pick it up again for my Ss & me.
Yikes that’s a long one. LOL
FA I used to do Voices of the World many years ago.
Can we have a Doink night? You keep talking about it & I need to know more!
It’s something I have to work at to make sure I do. Easy to get caught up in tech. But learning is and should be MESSY!
Join in anytime. I put them in journals & kids share solutions there too :)
A7 The Teachers Corners Skittles project, Virtual Valentines, Global read Aloud
A7 Favorite all-time collaborative project for me has been The Global Read Aloud
I just LOVE the different LEVELS of participation you build in - makes it doable for the likes of me! Sign… https://t.co/qSO0939tux
A7: (Sept. 15) Cardboard Challenge (Oct. 1) (Oct-Nov) Proejcts by Jen (all year) and
Cool blogging challenge for December via https://t.co/9b5lepAkeM
Q6: I hosted a blogging contest back on 12.12.12 every one who participated had to write a post about 12 things.
Love this idea! Maybe a “Green Screen” brochure of your state! How fun! https://t.co/ka6FuY0QIU
A6 - Becoming experts on your state and then sharing w/other states - animals, historical attractions, national & state parks
A7 also doing the virtual canoe race this year in PA
A7: Have done Odd Day, Square Root Day, Pi Day. and so many more.
Crayons project sounds wonderful!!!!
That sounds interesting. Can you share a resource?
yep -- as a teacher, I understand "too much on my plate" sometimes Levels seems to work.
Absolutely! Connected with so many different classrooms and Ss LOVED it! I am doing Pax this year
Tells us more about that, Meg.
I hope so. My mind is spinning with ideas..... and will talk w/ co-host this Saturday to spin some ideas.
Yes! We’ll add it to the line up. Do you have iPads?
first time, but basically students collaborate to answer questions and move their canoe down the Delaware
I am in! Love this idea We study WI all year long
. I'm not in the classroom anymore, but I'm constantly advertising the project to my teachers!
WOW -- time flies!! So final "last moment" question...... Will You Join A Project in 2016/17? not necessary mine -- but ANY?
Is there a big list of available global projects anywhere?
Square Root Day is just around the corner: 4/4/16
Chromebooks and 10 Ipad2s for the whole school. Not 1:1 with anything
I HIGHLY recommend it - You should invest in iMovie too as it makes a nice finish product.
has a listing somewhere -- epals has a listing -- but NOT one place for them all (yet)
Yes, already joined the Poetry Tree, doing - Mystery Skype, excited to learn about more!
Happy to connect about Pax if anyone is interested. Might actually start on time this year haha!
