Okay, a little new at this... so here comes the first question... Q1: #ATchat Introduce yourself and tell us what does digital accessibility mean to you?
A1. Hi! Hillary from Maine taking a break from loading courses. Accessibility means everything. It should be a forethought, not an afterthought. #atchat
#ATChat I remembering hearing this a few years back from Brent Pitt at Texas Education Agency (TEA). He definitely "got" the idea of "digital doesn't mean accessible."
A2: #ATchat When I worked for Region 4 ESC , the SE dept would work with other depts to share the importance of accessibility in general. It took some effort but eventually they embraced #a11y
AT Texas, we developed a tool to help ask the right questions to publishers. You might want to check out the resources at https://t.co/kPksN1sl0f#ATchat

I've tried to meet with the curriculum people who acquire textbooks & other resources so we can get the "born accessible" materials whenever possible. Or digital options at the least that publishers are required to produce. #ATchat

A2: Working with an iOS platform, many of the apps lend itself to promote digital accessibility (@ClaroScanPen, PrizmoGo, Google Keep, etc...) This helps bridge the gap, however in an idea world the materials would already be accessible! #atchat
A3. When they see it in action in a model lesson. Where students are excited and eager to learn. Where those that struggle aren’t because we’ve been intentional in our delivery of #a11y for all. #atchat
A3: #ATchat So legislation is not always a good motivator... however - recent legislation of the 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act (CVAA) has supported some to think differently about accessibility. https://t.co/2ZFhdNpFi6
A3: My district is hosting an Apple Accessibility Day open to anyone interested in attending (in early February) where Apple’s @marrathon will share his wisdom about the built-in Accessibility tools in the latest iOS! #ATchat

The university where I work has started small- all syllabi had to be accessible as of this past fall. Now deciding where to go next once everyone has realized it wasn't that difficult. #ATchat
Its not that hard-small simple steps. I did a session at our states tech conference and the audience were my university’s respective ID/chairs! Message received.#ATChat
We are firming up the details this week. Be sure to follow me on Twitter or on my blog. I’ll definitely be posting the info once it’s all finalized. #ATchat

A5: Kirk these are wonderful resources. How do we ensure that ed publishers abide by them? Sometimes the most challenging task is to get LMS publishers to make their assessment tools accessible.#atchat
A5: As iPad district, there are so many built-in Accessibility tools (i.e.: voiceover, zoom, magnifier, etc..) that we have at our fingertips. Additionally, many of the iOS apps we use provide digital accessibility (OCR, TTS, color contrast, zoom, etc). #atchat
And we have so much expertise in this room! Please lead your passion during one of our #ATchat (s). We are always looking for moderators. (had to retweet without the S so it would show up in the chat.
