Hi! I'm Christy, principal in Turner, KS!
A1: our brains need time to process, breath in order to learn information and store it. We zone out after a few minutes
A1) for me it gives me fresh perspective so I can tackle issues with new perspective
A1: There's something to be said about the East's understanding of mindfulness and negative space. Distance gives calm and clarity
A1: BBks help realign our thinking, distress our neurons and dendroids, and reoxygenate the brain stem! That's why!!
A1: Brain breaks help us build motivation to move forward.
A1) They allow you to refocus and really get your brain working. Great opportunity to get reenergized on the task at hand.
A1: If your bum is numb so is your brain!! We all need breaks to keep engaged in our learning
A1: Do you like working with no breaks? Is it productive? Uh no, it's horrible. Same for kids, let them reeeelax for a few secs
A1: Brain breaks they allow the brain to rest and then get refocused
What up ? I am lurking tonight as I am getting some work done after a very restful and lazy Spring Break!
A1: It gives our brains a chance to "reset" from the ongoing task of learning!!
A1. Sometimes we get so intense, we need a relief from that so we can get back on track with a fresh mind.
A1 I think BB help activate both the creative side of the brain AND the critical thinking side!
A1 They are fun and gives your brain a break...ha
Just joining! ! Rockin' the video chat so cool! Lisa from Turner District Media Tech Specialist
research has shown that brain breaks help with engagement, behavior, and cognition.
A1-Everyones brain deserves a "boost"(because are brains are not on a break)That's the T in me.When moving,brains working!
A1: Gotta get blood flowing to the brain!
A1: Brain Breaks are important to help our brains continue to grow and change!
BBs allow our mind to relax & refocus. Think about the business world-they've been taking breaks for years!
Hello Judith!! Talked to you face to face, on and now Twitter!
A1: Get your body moving, take a quick step away, refocus. Even I need brain breaks!
A1: great way to get the blood flowing again!
coming late. Rachel from Hesston 4th grade. Will be a sporadic participant. Twins bedtime is approaching.
A1: Oxygenate that brain, process info learned, and because IT'S FUN...gotta have it.
Learn something new every night first time for need to go DL.
There's no lying about that!
A1: Helps kids refocus and stimulates brain activity!
a1: sitting in staff meetings all day is a reminder that no one should have to sit that long.
The connections between brain research and utilizing true Cooperative Learning are unparalleled.
a1the traditional regular classroom demands that Ss sit for long periods of time and humans aren't suppose to.
A1-it also lets Ss see that we as Ts can have some fun too!
A1: because average attention span of my middle schoolers is 10-12 minutes.. they need a little help staying focused & engaged
Next question up at 8:20. Love the videos!
Hey everyone! After the chat tonite, please go follow
We are working hard to add recess/brain boosts across KS!
A2: 1st graders brain break often, but all lesson have movement in them, we dance to sight/spelling words etc.
Allison!! How ARE YOU? I miss your smiling face. I'll tweet you next time Im in StL. You do the same if you're in KC! Mrs_Antolik
A2: sometimes when I can feel the classes's attention waning I work one in, even if it's just moving around or switching seats
A1: Brian is always involved. Like the heart it never gets a "break" even at sleep. But constant change is an engine for learning
A2 everyday at 10:00am! Plus fun stuff during transitions (like Miss Hays talking in an English accent) https://t.co/1q8W4lltke
Hi everyone! Sorry, I'm late, a lot going on today with education in Kansas! Randy, Commissioner of Education.
A2: class is only 40 mins, so not often. When I see kids getting restless I'm like ok it's time to... https://t.co/pP4omcsFcb
How often? Not as often as I should. And then when I realize it's time? There are 8 kids Rolling around or planking on their desk
A2: Our schedule is broken up a lot-but I try to incorporate a lot of movement throughout activities. We love !
A2: Spontaneous brain breaks come in many forms. Quick lighthearted shenanigans should take place often https://t.co/5VezIQ855c
A2) News out today regarding standing desks suggests every 45 to stretch
A2) I would do them after lunch, but students were naturally up moving around the room a lot throughout day.
Brain breaks should be strategic at intervals, help get kiddos back on track. All depends on the Ss. https://t.co/zxAcEkdtrJ
A1: Brain is always involved. Like the heart it never gets a "break" even at sleep. But constant change is an engine for learning.
A2: Not as often as I should. :( Kids do move around, we do lots of labs, but not as many intentional brain breaks.
A2 I try to work in brain breaks as often as I can they know to let me know when they need to move. I also have a bike in my room.
So can we please all agree that GIFs are life and the GIF button on Twitter is the best thing evah? https://t.co/mHyLFavhoP
From what I hear is the brain break champion!
Hello Lauren!! Wonderful to see you...again. :) https://t.co/Udv7GWt5KD
A1: because average attention span of my middle schoolers is 10-12 minutes.. they need a little help staying focused & engaged
A2: We doing something called Brain Dumps to get the kids up and moving. Each table has a different ?
I use to have a regular routine, kiddos got bored with that so now it's pretty spontaneous. https://t.co/sMqCMvNVei
do you ever just go outside for lessons?
Love this idea! https://t.co/nhWXlYUyQQ
A2: have students create their own superhero based on topic being studied. Ex. a tornado superhero while studying natural disasters
A2: All the time! 😜 If you haven't checked out and you should! Both great brain boosts!
Some kids need more than others and that's ok! Teach students to recognize when they need BB on their own.
I'm so happy everyone is adding images! Next question up at 8:30 pm!

Transitions, after noted hard work, and that moment the lesson isn't going the way you foresaw it going! https://t.co/RnOXkgNsJW
Self-advocacy is an essential life skill that we often overlook in the name of Ts being in "control" https://t.co/fu7zBnyAMr
Some kids need more than others and that's ok! Teach students to recognize when they need BB on their own.
A2 I also love going out side! It is such a good change. They work much harder outside!

A3) I created a lot of brain breaks incorporating soccer, football and basketball. It was actually learning too but like a recess
A3: Just ask them what they did for fun yesterday.
Great idea! https://t.co/hVgRzrDycx
A3 recently taught a class on brain breaks. Modified some of the games from as an example!

Now that more of my students know correct technique we r doing more balavisx in class!
A3-Ss taught me the game garbage, l like that they have to be able to explain it and then play with others
A4: Nope. Definitely not. OK back to GIFs for me!
A4 no, but that is a really good idea. Could apply to alphabet/convo game tho, which is always fun!

A4 I have not! Teach me!!!
A4...no can you give some examples?
A4 No, but I would like to try it!

A4: Nope! Just at the beginning of the year when I'm trying to learn names.
We do one at the beginning of the year with people's names and throwing a ball. They must remember the order we threw it.
A4-I don't, but there could be some good math connections made

A4) Multiplication facts while doing jumping jacks, throwing the football with facts, toe touches with prefixes & suffixes
A4) Not intentionally but I do think some things/activities at times lean towards it.
