The #INeLearn hashtag is used for both asynchronous sharing and synchronous conversations. Include #INeLearn in your tweets if you want to share resources or questions with Indiana educators and school leaders. Asynchronously, the #INeLearn hashtag provides educators across the state of Indiana a central space for sharing. On Thursday evenings beginning at 8 CST/9 EST when you use the #INeLearn hashtag, you are joining a live conversation--the #INeLearn Twitter Chat. For one hour, we interact in real time having a virtual discussion.
Welcome to tonight’s #INeLearn chat! I’m Amy, principal/lead learner from Angola! I am SUPER excited to introduce @E_Sheninger as our guest moderator tonight! #INeLearn
We are excited for tonight's #INeLearn Chat! It is the final topic in a Digital Leadership series developed by @AmyHeavin. She has invited @E_Sheninger to guest moderate tonight. Let's give them a warm welcome!
We are finishing the series, Our Digital Steps. What Steps Will You Take in Your Journey in Digital Leadership? Tonight, our focus - Future Steps in Digital Leadership! #INeLearn
A1 - I think effective digital leadership is, at its basis, effective leadership. The twist is understanding the needs of today's learner and working with the staff to respond to those needs in a relevant and engaging way. #INeLearn
R1: being a digital leader means that you model good digital citizenship, teach it, and model new opportunities to explore digital learning. Learn along with Ss, Ts, and other stakeholders. Not afraid to fail. #INeLearn
A1 Leading in a way that supports the status quo, standardization, outdated practices, and misconceptions related to technology not only does a disservice to our students, but
also renders our schools and profession as irrelevant. #INeLearn
A1: effective digital leadership is leadership supported by and with the modeling and relevant use of tech. As it’s said pedagogy first, tech second. The same can be said about leadership. #INeLearn
A1 Leadership is no different today than it was yrs ago. The only difference is that style and focus need to change w/ the times if we are to accomplish the lofty task of preparing students for a dynamic world, that is more
socially connected as a result of technology #INeLearn

R1: Models all best practices in engaging SS in learning. As a good friend of mine @mltolin says “we don’t teach with books, we teach. Teaching shouldn’t be teaching with tech, it is just teaching.” #INeLearn
From #LT8Keys - The best leaders according to research:
Learn
Empower
Adapt
Delegate
Engage
Reflect
Serve
Digital supports and enhances all of the above #INeLearn
A1: Leadership evolves based on the needs of the people. Effective communication is essential in leadership. Communicating through digital mediums empowers more learners to lead by example to create a culture of excellence and growth. #inelearn
A1: Technology must be utilized to accelerate student learning. Invest in people and pedagogy though having a clear purpose, plan & picture of using digital tools to drive achievement. #INeLearn
A1: we also have to build a culture of risk taking and pushing the envelope. To many Ts are scared to take risk because of the culture of evaluations. #INeLearn

Then, knowing when and how digital tools enhance, extend, or expand the learning becomes the discussion of effective instruction. As a leader, we have to refine the craft of when to ‘push and support’. #INeLearn
R2: Allow Ss to create a positive digital footprint though creative use of technology that is shared not only in the classroom, but with other digital citizens in the school, city, state, country, continent, and world. #INeLearn
A2: we believe in the power of creation. Our schools have iPads to allow for creating and sharing digital work. The iPads allow us for so much flexibility in how learners show their understanding of standards. #INeLearn
A2: 1:1 Chromebooks and moving from consuming to creating for our Ss. It’s been humbling to see our teachers become so empowered. I gotta grind to keep up!! #INeLearn
A2- I have found that Tech integration must be done in 2 stages. 1st there must be a shared core system on which to build. 2nd, staff must have the liberty to experiment and explore with the students. All this must be seen through the lens of pedagogy and learning. #INeLearn
R2: Following this response thread. I cannot wait to hear the answers. As a parent of a middle schooler and elementary student I have some personal experiences I want to reflect upon as you all share! #INeLearn
A2: The most important thing when making an organizational shift to technology is to go all in! If you allow the old and the new to exist then there will be no reason for anyone to transfer to the new! If you want to stop using paper forms...stop using paper forms! #INeLearn
One thing we must consider is are the learners still all creating the same thing with tech or are we allowing them to prove mastery through the tools they like to use? #INeLearn
R2: We are still learning! We just started down the #FutureReady path. Starting to look at leadership practices. Changing pedagogy through instructional coaching. Starting #LT8Keys over break with a few other leaders. #INeLearn
R2: i am throwing in the 4Cs of ed along with my 5th C of community into this. How are our Ss using tech to be creative, think critically, using it to communicate and collaborate with others in the world. That’s exciting to me. #INeLearn
I've often navigated the relationship between digital citizenship and media literacy. You're reminding me that they both fall under digital leadership. #digcit#medialit#iNeLearn
A2: 1:1 Chromebooks and moving from consuming to creating for our Ss. It’s been humbling to see our teachers become so empowered. I gotta grind to keep up!! #INeLearn
R2: I have the fortune of observing Ss creating & sharing their work when using tech - share w/ each other, Ps, Ts. Ts sharing their ideas w/ each other too! #INeLearn
A1: Leadership evolves based on the needs of the people. Effective communication is essential in leadership. Communicating through digital mediums empowers more learners to lead by example to create a culture of excellence and growth. #inelearn
A2: First, there has to be a pedagogical intent before wanting to integrate tech. Then, we decide how/what/when we will messure the impact on Ss learning, and how we will document this data. #inelearn
A2: it’s the foundation for #SiglerNation. Amplify the voices of our Ss & Ts and connect with others around the nation and world! Look us up and connect w/ us! @siglerstars#INeLearn
Great point, and an important one to ask. It is not using tech for tech’s sake. How will learning, sharing, creating be different to enhance the learning for all? #INeLearn
One thing we must consider is are the learners still all creating the same thing with tech or are we allowing them to prove mastery through the tools they like to use? #INeLearn
Q3 How have you changed classroom and school spaces to better support rigorous and relevant learning? Has pedagogy changed to maximize these shifts? #INeLearn
A2: the digital tools has allowed us to go down the road of #personalizedlearning and not focusing on grade levels in elementary school. It is about thenlearning and the journey each learner is on. #INeLearn
A2. In order to effectively integrate technology, you first have to have it. We have very little. I admit my teaching is still passive with it, but I have been able to implement some internet based teaching sites in a whole group setting. #INeLearn
@travislape - great point. Reminds me of everyone reading the same novel or doing the same task. Are we creating relevancy or making the instruction “easy” to plan, grade, etc. #INeLearn
A3 School spaces for digital learning expand beyond the time and geographical space of the classroom. Students learn when working with our city and town government. #INeLearn
A3 - We started by moving away from desks and towards more collaborative spaces. Lately I have been seeing learning and creating outgrowing the classroom walls and happening all over the school. It is truly amazing ! #INeLearn
A2: I’m changing my tune on this.... it’s about the Ss needs. To be more “effective”, I’m trying to “transform” Ss learning experience with technology instead of integrating a type of tech onto Ss, to fit my needs.
Different angle I guess. It’s a work in progress. #INeLearn
R3: I’m not sure the space has changed. We still teach content in our silos. With that said, the pedagogy and philosophy of ed has changed from T centered to S centered. It’s no more “sit n git” from our Ss. #INeLearn
Yup... using the same language can make it seem as if there are fewer "one more things" to deal with. (e.g., We have to deal with media literacy PLUS digital citizenship versus just "digital leadership"). #iNeLearn
A3: The most important thing to remember about a blended lesson is that it is no longer linear! Learning can go in all different directions in the matter of seconds! So movement is necessary #INeLearn
R3: The ability to reinvent learning spaces that match 21st century workforce spaces create authentic learning which heightens critical thinking, problem solving, and collaboration. Love when we see this happening in schools. #INeLearn
A3. Because we are in a detention center, it is hard to change our space. Our tables are bolted to the floor. So we do the best we can to make our classrooms look like traditional classrooms. #INeLearn
R3-I believe it is important to shift pedagogy before spaces. Spaces will evolve as a component to our shift in instruction & be better supported. We can make pretty cool spaces, but are Ss really accessing their education differently? Big Q to ask 1st #INeLearn
I absolutely agree that common experiences create opportunities for dialogue and instruction. We just need to not live in these spaces solely all the time. #inelearn
That is awesome! We have been doing the same as a part of how we are teaching differently. Spaces have evolved WITH the shift in pedagogy. Independence. Self-pacing. Collaboration. Choice. #INeLearn
A3 - We started by moving away from desks and towards more collaborative spaces. Lately I have been seeing learning and creating outgrowing the classroom walls and happening all over the school. It is truly amazing ! #INeLearn
So true! And some sound too vague... or wishy washy. Info literacy term has long been noted for being problematic. Digital leadership - I like it. It has punch 💥 #INeLearn
A3: Not only do we need to change the physical learning space on the outside, but what about our learning spaces on the inside? How am I providing authentic, engaging and meaningful learning experiences, and how am I growing as well? #inelearn#leadered
Inspiring right? I love when the learning is not bound to the four walls of a classroom or school house. Learning can happen throughout the community! #INeLearn
When the ed focus shifts from “controlling” students’ experiences to providing possibilities and opportunities for exploration & experimentation, innovation and creativity happens. #INeLearn
A4: Time is needed... most of our teachers have not grown up with the tech. Give them time to explore and test the waters. Also the culture that it is ok to have learners show you something new. #INeLearn
A2: Instituted a 1:1 Chromebook program last year and Google tools throughout. Our teachers are using @Flipgrid@quizizz, various apps to enhance learning. Our staff is also doing a #boldschool book study on blended learning. Started @PVPantherPride to highight school.#inelearn
A4 set expectations, model and don’t assume that our digital natives know how to use tech for learning and digital literacy...make sure inter structure sports the traffic #INeLearn
A4 To enhance students’ experiences with mobile learning, having students understand the “norms” of etiquette & politeness are needed. When to turn off a device & pay attention for example. #INeLearn
R4: Support and modeling. Believer that training isn’t something that happens in one session and everyone will get it. Team teach utilizing it then support then on your own. A former S of mine (a teacher now) created a group of Ss to help model @grizgoat@PIT_Crew_#INeLearn
I would also challenge to say it is not just about who grew up with tech & who has not. It is a mindset. We must establish our clear WHY & how learning will be enhanced. I didn’t grow up w/ it, but I know my why & model that for my school. #INeLearn
A4: Need to have successful PD and support for teachers. We started a tech summit three years ago. Choice PD . https://t.co/axm0N3XXu1 . Also must have a strong tech department to provide support. Training for parents is also a must! Thanks @PCookTech#inelearn
A4: Everyone must be on the same page even before starting (vision, intent). Lots of PD, share best practices. Determine how to provide ongoing support. #inelearn
A4. Teachers have to truly be trained on the technology and given the opportunity to learn and practice it. Then, they have to be given the security of knowing that it's alright if it doesn't work right or go well the first time they try it in class. #INeLearn
A4: a leader who is understanding and willing to say “yes” to initiatives from Ts that may not be quite clear at first. Promote innovation.
An unstructured structure
🤭🤨 There, I said it.
#INeLearn
R4-Before anything, we must have a clear WHY. Our culture must support that why, & then anything is possible, if our culture believes it is important. We make time for what is important to fulfilling our WHY. #INeLearn
Yes, a mindset isn't the same as knowing how to do something. It's more about not feeling intimidated by the new--or at least not being intimidated by feeling intimidated! #digcit#iNeLearn
I would also challenge to say it is not just about who grew up with tech & who has not. It is a mindset. We must establish our clear WHY & how learning will be enhanced. I didn’t grow up w/ it, but I know my why & model that for my school. #INeLearn
A4 - Like most initiatives, a common Vision is key. We have to understand where we are going and why we are going there. Of course, you also have to ensure that the right infrastructures are in place to permit the mobile learning to happen. #INeLearn
A4: Everyone must be on the same page even before starting (vision, intent). Lots of PD, share best practices. Determine how to provide ongoing support. #inelearn
A4: Support for both staff and students. Put together a committee composed of teachers and students. Form a tech club to encourage innovation and passion-based projects. #inelearn
I use this a lot! It first starts at the base! We must believe in all our learners. To often we search for a tool that then we try to fit into our structure and best practices. We quickly find out that tool doesn’t work! #INeLearn
A culture that supports trying something new is huge. There will always be new tools. As a leader, I want to support & encourage trying something new, focused on strong pedagogy. #INeLearn
R4: It can help to have suggested resources for Ts to reference, some vetted, curated to make a search easier, a source for "just in time" learning. #INeLearn
R5: I love the ability to create PLNs through social media. I would often direct message tweets and resources to other staff to push or validate thinking. My goal for 2018 is to blog ... regularly. Eh-hem. #INeLearn
A5 I demonstrate a willingness to try new tech and new ways of doing things, share those with my staff. Valuing their willingness to try the novel and new too goes a long way to demonstrate I value their explorations. #INeLearn
R5: participate in any PD that is possible. Belong to great #PLNs like #INeLearn, #IDedchat, #NVedchat. Follow digital leaders and other great educators on Twitter. Never stop learning. #INeLearn
A5- professional books, twitter and Twitter chats, blogs, Ted talks, conferences and deep, reflective conversations with colleagues. It is all about the professional learning network! #INeLearn
A5 Invite Tt to PD(tell them you will drive) and give, give, give lessons that were learned from high quality PD....but alot Tt just trying to keep head above water #INeLearn
I’ve witnessed some even becoming the tech helpline for staff and students. Teachers would invite members of tech club to help out in their class (mentoring). #INeLearn
I need to grab that goal as well - blog regularly. I was really good about it for a while - need to get back to it. It is such a reflective & transparent process. #INeLearn
R4: Support and modeling. Believer that training isn’t something that happens in one session and everyone will get it. Team teach utilizing it then support then on your own. A former S of mine (a teacher now) created a group of Ss to help model @grizgoat@PIT_Crew_#INeLearn
R5-My PLN is a wonderful resource for continual growth. It warms my heart when my Ts are building theirs as well! Model trying something new, making mistakes & learning from them. #INeLearn
As a parent who's been lucky enough to be exposed to PD through other means... I totally agree. It's more than teachers who benefit from understanding how kids--and we--learn. #iNeLearn
A5: I still remember the day I Skyped w/ @E_Sheninger@LFlemingEDU to learn about the awesome work they were doing! I was fresh into my new job. I have been blessed by that. Laura is now a close friend I still have not met in person #INeLearn
Want to hear and learn more from Eric and our other thought leaders?!? Join us in Sunny ☀️Florida in June for our 26th Model Schools Conference! Early bird deadline ends 12/31. Message me if you want to talk specifics. #INeLearn#leadered#IASPChat
A6 - Of course this is where social media comes into play. Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are a window into our school community. Who is our staff ? What are we doing ? How are the students learning ? The world has never had so much access to our schools. #INeLearn
R6: you truly have to use every method of communication as possible. Paper fliers, email, phone, twitter, Facebook, Instagram, SnapChat, Remind, translated for EL Ss and Ps. #INeLearn
A6) I'd suggest recruiting those for whom you've made an impact. Graduates, parents, and especially current students must have the opportunity to tell much of your story. #iNeLearn
R6-We tell our @RyanParkRhinos story through the many facets of communication to our Ts, Ps, & community. Powerful when it is not 1, but many who join the storytelling to share who we are & what we want to create for our Ss #INeLearn
