A1: We generally only do recorders in the 2nd 1/2 of the year in 2nd grade- BAG songs. Want to flip it this year! #elmused

  • mspatricianhfb Dec 13 @ 9:26 PM EST
Yeah I can see that being a challenge. I’ve seen some people use websites and email or Blackboard! #elmused
    In reply to @macch12

A2: our school uses @Google but I will have Ss make videos on @Seesaw #elmused

Q2: What Learning Management System does your school use? Blackboard? GAFE? (If none, can you post to a website?) #elmused
  • molliany Dec 13 @ 9:27 PM EST
A3: Students who have less availability to tech at home can feel left out and behind. Causing what looks like lack of motivation. #elmused
  • mspatricianhfb Dec 13 @ 9:27 PM EST
Also a great resource to use! #elmused
    In reply to @svitullomusic
  • mspatricianhfb Dec 13 @ 9:28 PM EST
True. If they have devices, they can download the teaching videos to them before going home. If not, definitely a barrier #elmused
    In reply to @molliany
  • MrsLevenberg Dec 13 @ 9:29 PM EST
A3: What age group would this be for? It might be a little long...could it be broken down into smaller, shorter parts? #elmused
  • mspatricianhfb Dec 13 @ 9:29 PM EST
Yes, that sounds hard. Could students share accounts? #elmused

A1: recorder karate, music from mk8 and anything else I write out #elmused
  • molliany Dec 13 @ 9:30 PM EST
A3 cont: Also, time consuming to set up as a teacher. Shared devices are also problematic. #elmused
  • mspatricianhfb Dec 13 @ 9:31 PM EST
it’s easier for Ss to have one video to view and be able to re-watch parts. Each video goes through the same steps #elmused
    In reply to @MrsLevenberg
  • MsDsMusicRoom Dec 13 @ 9:31 PM EST
A3: agreed - I felt the vid was a little like long #elmused
  • carlellinwoodjr Dec 13 @ 9:31 PM EST
my pleasure! I'll have Ss follow along and show them how to access on the music website to review things taught in class #elmused
    In reply to @molliany
  • mspatricianhfb Dec 13 @ 9:32 PM EST
Q4: I do a combo of in-class flip (for Ss who don’t do HW) & at-home flip. How do you think Ss benefit from the flipped model? #elmused
  • carlellinwoodjr Dec 13 @ 9:33 PM EST
A3: awesome video @mspatricianhfb! I think it's great how you model with differentiation and then check for understanding #elmused
    In reply to @mspatricianhfb
  • mspatricianhfb Dec 13 @ 9:33 PM EST
How do you think you might be able to shorten it, but still get the kids to go through the same steps on their own? #elmused
    In reply to @MsDsMusicRoom
  • audreymelugin Dec 13 @ 9:33 PM EST
A1: recorder karate, they love showing off their belts #elmused
  • Tuffnellmusic Dec 13 @ 9:33 PM EST
A2: Schoology. I also use seesaw in my classroom and utilize google drive for student access via google login #elmused
  • mspatricianhfb Dec 13 @ 9:34 PM EST
Thanks! The fact that it’s a video also allows them to go back and watch it as many times as they need #elmused
    In reply to @carlellinwoodjr
  • carlellinwoodjr Dec 13 @ 9:35 PM EST
A4: gives students opportunity to review and practice at home. Also allows them to show evidence of learning with technology. #elmused
  • svitullomusic Dec 13 @ 9:36 PM EST
A3: love it! Steps are explained well, expectations are clear. Ss can replay as needed #elmused
  • MrsLevenberg Dec 13 @ 9:36 PM EST
A4: Partnering kids who have watched with kids who haven't to have peer teaching/ peer learning! #elmused

  • mspatricianhfb Dec 13 @ 9:37 PM EST

    In reply to @MrsLevenberg
  • svitullomusic Dec 13 @ 9:37 PM EST
A4: allows Ss to learn at their own pace & practice more efficiently at home so they can move forward more when at school #elmused
    • mspatricianhfb Dec 13 @ 9:32 PM EST
Q4: I do a combo of in-class flip (for Ss who don’t do HW) & at-home flip. How do you think Ss benefit from the flipped model? #elmused
  • mspatricianhfb Dec 13 @ 9:38 PM EST
    Q5 is coming up! #elmused
  • mspatricianhfb Dec 13 @ 9:38 PM EST
Haha yes- that is definitely an upside. You’ll see a couple S examples in the next Q that will compare the two #elmused
    In reply to @molliany
  • svitullomusic Dec 13 @ 9:39 PM EST
    Great steps. Clear/efficient #elmused #recorders
    • mspatricianhfb Dec 13 @ 9:31 PM EST
Here’s a sample of a recorder assignment on Google Classroom. We practice these steps together MANY times before individually.
  • Tuffnellmusic Dec 13 @ 9:39 PM EST
A3: yes! biggest struggle is making a recording that has a good sound that I am proud to share with Ss. Good modeling is essential #elmused
  • mspatricianhfb Dec 13 @ 9:40 PM EST
I definitely had to record several times and revamp the first few vids…then I got into a good rhythm #elmused
    In reply to @Tuffnellmusic
  • carlellinwoodjr Dec 13 @ 9:42 PM EST
@mspatricianhfb A5 what kind of video tools/composition programs do you use? #elmused
    In reply to @mspatricianhfb
  • mspatricianhfb Dec 13 @ 9:42 PM EST
I use Quicktime screen recorder, so I can have the video screen up for them to see my face as well as the music #elmused
    In reply to @carlellinwoodjr
  • MsDsMusicRoom Dec 13 @ 9:43 PM EST
A5: these recordings are awesome! I see my kids 1x every 6 days. This long stretch makes home practice tricky. #elmused
  • mspatricianhfb Dec 13 @ 9:44 PM EST
The in-class model works too. Ss record in hallway if I can trust them. They are still motivated to earn badges #ElMusEd
    In reply to @MsDsMusicRoom
  • MrsLevenberg Dec 13 @ 9:45 PM EST
A5: Love that the kids get the option of performing in either setting- gives everyone the opportunity to be successful- awesome! #elmused
  • mspatricianhfb Dec 13 @ 9:46 PM EST
I tried being angry that they didn’t do HW, but it’s not like it was just in my class. Turned into a positive #elmused
    In reply to @MrsLevenberg
  • mspatricianhfb Dec 13 @ 9:50 PM EST
One of my teachers uses that. I know she likes it a lot. Quicktime works fine for me, so I use that #elmused
    In reply to @molliany, @carlellinwoodjr
  • mspatricianhfb Dec 13 @ 9:51 PM EST
    Q6 coming up! #elmused
  • mspatricianhfb Dec 13 @ 9:51 PM EST
Sorry for the chat issues everyone. I am working on the issue- hopefully 2017 will bring me a year of no #elmused chat problems!
  • mspatricianhfb Dec 13 @ 9:52 PM EST
Q6: What other questions do you have for me? Do plan to implement the flipped model for anything in your classroom? #elmused
  • MrsLevenberg Dec 13 @ 9:52 PM EST
A6: Gonna start with recorders and take it from there! #elmused
  • mspatricianhfb Dec 13 @ 9:53 PM EST
Definitely! I’d like to flip other lessons…but recorder took a lot out of me. Now I have those, I can move forward! #elmused
    In reply to @MrsLevenberg
  • carlellinwoodjr Dec 13 @ 9:53 PM EST
I've used Screencast O Matic in the past for students who I've taught online. #elmused
  • mspatricianhfb Dec 13 @ 9:54 PM EST
Another teacher uses @screencasto ScreenCast O-Matic and also likes it! #elmused
    In reply to @molliany, @screencasto
  • svitullomusic Dec 13 @ 9:55 PM EST

    In reply to @svitullomusic
  • molliany Dec 13 @ 9:57 PM EST
A6: Want to try flipping recorders this year, but I'm just not sure it will happen this year. I could start, little by little. #elmused

Thanks for participating tonight! We will be taking our Winter Break the next two weeks- see you back here on January 3rd! #elmused
  • mspatricianhfb Dec 13 @ 9:58 PM EST
I literally made videos as I needed them. Some Ss progressed faster. Start by teaching them how to create/upload vid #elmused
    In reply to @molliany
  • MsDsMusicRoom Dec 13 @ 9:58 PM EST
A6: would love to do more but Ss don't have 1:1 devices yet. https://t.co/TWYJYNE3n0 lets me share or embed #elmused
  • mspatricianhfb Dec 13 @ 9:58 PM EST
#babysteps will get you through! I promise, it is SO worth it not to have to teach at the front of the classroom! #elmused
    In reply to @molliany
