The Breakfast Club – #BFC530 – is a 15 minute, 1 question Twitter chat every weekday. We chat in 4 timezones Mon-Fri – 5:30am Eastern, Central, Mountain, and Pacific Times. I teach in a fully-funded Catholic school system here in Ontario. We are able to celebrate Advent and Christmas together...but it is still so important for us to learn about other faith traditions. #bfc530

We study countries when we get back from break. They will then also study the holidays associated with them and the traditions that come with it. #bfc530
We focus more on setting goals and reflection during this time and celebration of their wins. For example we are making dream boards to finish out the week so they can set goals using the boards after break! #bfc530

Christmas or Winter Break ... I usually do not overtly talk about the holidays as a whole class ... why point out why we are different and instead focus on why we are similar ... we all like the break no matter the reason. #bfc530

Good point. Most of my students are Hindu so they asked why we don't have of for Diwali but we have off for other religious holidays. Time for a bit student action it seems #bfc530

Good question to consider all year long. Students are all coming to school with their own culture. Important to be aware of things they may no be familiar with but also great to find opportunities to share what is unique about each student. #bfc530
Tomorrow we are having a "Read-In" and book exchange in my classes. Friday an advisory breakfast, and optional yankee swap (I go along to get along). #bfc530

2nd graders are extremely curious about everything. We talk about many different types of celebrations and they get to ask their "wonder" questions on our Google home. #bfc530

I know this doesnt deal w/the elf in the clssrm, but my 6 year old is afraid of elf on a shelf, so we dont do it. She got brave last night at Barnes & Noble. She opened up the boxes , touched the elf, & said, "Now you cant come to life" #bfc530
Yeah..those were hard years..high school bball; games don’t start until 7...I had to keep busy until then or I would fall asleep.

I don't really do anything Christmasy in my class, so no problem there. I talk of the holiday break rather than "what will you do for Christmas?". And our Christmas assembly is more of a talent show than anything Xmas related.

As a first grade T I used BTSN to talk about how magical being 7 is and how it's ok to let kids believe. I asked Ps to pls talk to their kids about respecting and protecting others' beliefs. It worked well. #BFC530

The only thing that education has taken from business is its modeling of the accounting department. We have only modeled data, stats, and the bottom line. We have not invested the time, the money, nor the resources that affect a favorable outcome. Hint Culture!

in my Social Justice Class we looked in to the history of Homophobic slurs & words. That was the first one. Ss were about the groins & how they became co- opted for hate #bfc530
