I'm Heidi from Las Vegas, NV. I will be our school's Magnet Coordinator next school year. I love spending time with family and friends and watching the professional fireworks. #cuechat
Kim from SoCal, Digital Learning Coach for K-12 district. I love the fireworks! (especially through the eyes of my kids when they were younger) #CUEchat
Kyle In Las Vegas, soon to be Reno, soon to be special education teacher! Favorite part of the 4th? Used to be when I got GOOD fireworks and risked life and limb! #cuechat
Q1: One definition of freedom is: “the state of being physically unrestricted and able to move easily.” What kind of pedagogy ensures we provide a room full of Ss this freedom? Are you currently giving Ss the freedom to work where they are most comfortable & efficient? #CUEchat
Thanks! I'm really excited! Loved to work with my classes in the past, but now I can really get to know and help about 20 kids in a one-on-one fashion! #cuechat
A1: I am looking forward to changing the layout of the two classrooms that I'm in. It will be a great experiement...and I hope to get better at this next year to inpire student learning #CUEchat#Wearecue#CUEldi

A1: I did #flexibleseating this year. It was a bumpy road but I'm doing again next yr. I saw a lot o fkids taking the reins of their learning! #CUEchat

A1 Since I am out of the classroom, so I try to model "defronting" the classroom, providing opportunities for choice, and most importantly, ensure safety ...like risk taking, vulnerability #CUEchat
A1 flexible seating is still seating. It's more about how are we giving students the opportunity to move in class. are we doing walk and talks. Are we using the hallways, going outside, making the lesson a movement activity. allowing the ss to get up without asking etc #cuechat
It really depends on their accommodations. Some students need the structure of an assigned seat but others may feel more empowered if given the choice of type and location of seat #cuechat
Q2: Do you provide Ss with the freedom to choose how to show what they know? Are you building independence within your Ss by allowing them to choose their own evidence of learning? #cuechat
A1: I am headed back to the class this year. Already setting up #360class and working on flexible learning spaces and seating. Have a sweet unused patio outside. #cuechat
A1: Last year I gave my Ss choice in seating and some of their assignments. This year I had plans to allow Ss to pick what “standard” they wanted to learn, but this will still happen with previous grade-level. Now I get to assist them since I’ll be out of the classrm #CUEchat
I’m Anita from North Las Vegas, I will be teaching Robotics to grades 1-5...my favorite part of celebrating the 4th of July is watching the fireworks...barbecuing and swimming #cuechat
Mostly got rid of old things. I will take things that have been in my house from prior classroom and resurrect them. Also, one room was redone a year ago #WeAreCUE#cuechat
A lot of teachers still stand in the front or at their desk, blows me away! Moving around clearly has its advantages on student learning, but how about for a teacher's mental and physical sanity? #cuechat
It sure does benefit them! I had some that would need to sit on the yoga ball so they could bounce, sit away from others so they CPD focus. It just depended on the Ss and what they needed at that time. #cuechat
A2 im in a non tested area. I allow them to choose what they want to learn. I then marry that to what the standards are that I need to cover. This happy negotiation is ongoing. #physed#healthed#cuechat
Q2: Do you provide Ss with the freedom to choose how to show what they know? Are you building independence within your Ss by allowing them to choose their own evidence of learning? #cuechat
A2: I used @Seesaw for this and could have done a better job using this tool. I also used Slides and their creations, feedback and collaboration with each other was awesome. #CUEchat
A2: I am becoming a very strong supporter of competency based learning, and allowing freedom in proving a student knows what they need to know is a large part of CBL, I am especially looking forward to incorporating these types of accommodations for SpEd Ss #cuechat

Hi! I am Myra from Orange County but in Minneapolis for the NEA Convention. I am a HS Math/CS/Tech TOSA Teacher. The costumes that t's wear at the convention. #cuechat
A1 in our trainingswe always make the room move. Sit and get sucks and we know that. Being rockstar faculty has forced us to up or PD game, and now we view our own trainings very differently! #Cuechat
Working in a #PBL school for a long time really helped me in this, it was definitely a struggle in the beginning, I was so used to "this is my plan, this is how we do it" #cuechat
2 years ago I was in a portable and I was able to get pincinic tables outside my door! This is a game changer! Al classrooms shld hv outside doors so this cold happen more. Enjoy the patio! #cuechat

A2 ok on the right account. We have a whole slew of trainings available, and teaches can pick their trainings a-la-carte style. There is some level 0 trainings we do to make sure there is a base to work from, but when you choose what you learn you are already invested! #CUEchat
A1: A personalized learning environment give students the freedom and the choice to take control of their own learning. Provide students with options to explore their interests in a flexible environment. #cuechat@AprilBuege
A1: This past year I gave my students the freedom to sit where they felt they would be the most successful...they also got to choose their own stations to go to...this year I will be allowing the students to work at their own pace #cuechat
A3: This is such a challenge! I want to work on #designthinking and #inquirymindset next year. I have to also work with other members of my team...so it will a balancing act #WeAreCUE#cuechat
A3: Absolutely and I even model this for them by making mistakes in front of them. Then my Ss will correct me and helps with building the culture in our classroom. We all make mistakes and this is how we learn and grow! #cuechat
A3 When delivering a training, I actually like it when the tech fails me in front of colleagues. I need them to see that it isn't perfect all the time and as the teacher, we don't need to be an expert at everything. We can't possibly know everything. #vulnerable#cuechat
A3: I plan to try new approaches in math this year as soon I find out which math class I am teaching. My AP contacted me a few days ago to tell me it was changing. #cuechat
A3: Really need to work on this one. A great start is incorporating @jcorippo eduprotocol lessons, I really dig his use of Quizizz or Socrative with the same ?s multiple times to encourage failure and learning #cuechat
A2: Personalized learning in the form of choice boards is a good way to give students the ability to choose how they show mastery of content standards. #cuechat@AprilBuege
Q2: Do you provide Ss with the freedom to choose how to show what they know? Are you building independence within your Ss by allowing them to choose their own evidence of learning? #cuechat
A3: I plan to try new approaches in math this year as soon I find out which math class I am teaching. My AP contacted me a few days ago to tell me it was changing. #cuechat
A3: I really believe that cultivating think time and a culture of failure as a learning tool is crucial. I plan to foster and encourage this! #WeAreCUE#cuechat
A3: Really need to work on this one. A great start is incorporating @jcorippo eduprotocol lessons, I really dig his use of Quizizz or Socrative with the same ?s multiple times to encourage failure and learning #cuechat
I think it is important to always have new things that we work on and figure out together. If I've done it again and again...not the same experience of learning together! #CUEchat
A2: I taught first grade this past year with competency based learning...I had the students use different tools such as @Flipgrid...#hyperdocs and @Seesaw to show what they know...I’m still trying to figure out how i can be even more creative this year #cuechat
A3: YES!! We had an awesome #failforward discussion in summer school yesterday- and today one of the students found a mistake I made. I LOVED it and thanked her. Think time is so important- it’s worth the uncomfiness! #cuechat
Q4: With headlines like these: “Why Formal Education Kills Curiosity, Creativity, And Passion For …” How do we spark curiosity in those Ss whose natural flame has all but been extinguished?...Those who lack the drive to be autonomous? #cuechat
I used flipgrid for the students to explain their reasoning in math. I also thank the students when they find my mistakes. I plan to use "My favorite No" as warm-ups for the students to evaluate mistakes. #cuechat
Hey, me too! #greatminds I told them that failure is a super powerful tool to help us learn and the I failed big time on day one. They forgave me and we all moved forward! #cuechat
Q4: With headlines like these: “Why Formal Education Kills Curiosity, Creativity, And Passion For …” How do we spark curiosity in those Ss whose natural flame has all but been extinguished?...Those who lack the drive to be autonomous? #cuechat
A4: Be passionate about what you are doing! Even if it's something that you aren't passionate about. I remember really not enjoying having to cover a lot of the religious movements of 19th century America, but I tried to cover it like it was my favorite #cuechat
Q4: With headlines like these: “Why Formal Education Kills Curiosity, Creativity, And Passion For …” How do we spark curiosity in those Ss whose natural flame has all but been extinguished?...Those who lack the drive to be autonomous? #cuechat
A4: We are at a glorious time in education. We can leverage tech to allow kids to navigate their learning (passion projects) or help them find their way with scaffolds. #CUEchat
Q4: With headlines like these: “Why Formal Education Kills Curiosity, Creativity, And Passion For …” How do we spark curiosity in those Ss whose natural flame has all but been extinguished?...Those who lack the drive to be autonomous? #cuechat
A4: If really extinguished, guest speakers and new experiences must be a part of the day. If not extinguished, just have Ss connect w each other. Talking w their peers help. #cuechat
I was passing through. I drove from Reno to Fresno on Friday, stayed over and hung out with @techcoachjuarez@kat_goyette then had some BOMB birria with @edcampOSjr before driving from Visalia to Las Vegas on Saturday #cuechat
In reply to
@KatieJMcNamara, @TechTomBUSD, @TechMikeBUSD, @jcorippo, @techcoachjuarez, @kat_goyette, @edcampOSjr
Everything about that gif makes me smile, from the joke, to the fond memories of watching it with my grandma, and not realizing until I was older that my sweet little devout Catholic grandma was laughing as some dirty jokes! #cuechat
A4: We have to develop a culture and environment where Ss are the question askers. We need to cultivate that first learning instinct, curiosity. We as Ts need to shepherd, and stop dictating every thing. Let kids lead their learning! #cuechat
#designthinking is my goal for this year...my teaching partner and I plan to really go hard on this one especially for our fifth grade learners...we are implementing something similar to a senior project which will include a panel presentation #cuechat
A colleague told me a change to the phrase, “sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.” She changed it to “sometimes you win, sometimes you learn.” #cuechat
A4: IMO no one lacks the desire of being autonomous. It's a basic human need- Self Determination Theory. Most of the time we provide "fake" autonomy. We have a clear goal in mind that the Ss need to get to, in order to ace the tests, #CUEchat
A5: Set your expectations from day one, do not compromise on expectations! Once those are set, continue to model and remind of expectations and everything will fall in place, with a few minor hiccups #cuechat
A5: All depends on how culture is created. I try to give students a tight structure - but really loose directions. Most don’t like the open ended if they have been programmed to just follow suit. But they deserve better- worth the time to deprogram. #cuechat
A5: My guess is that Ss would have more buy in to learning with choice. We built our class responsibilities and "rules" together...they were involved in the creating of a class constitution. #cuechat
A5: I try to build in the extra time that choice usually requires. When it takes longer or goes a different direction I try to "yes" as much as possible and go with the flow. #cuechat
There is a balance. We will not go all year or even a week without writing. Funny, the things you feel are have to are someone's favorite. #CUEchat A room full of various learners with various likes.
Q6: What does student freedom mean 2 u? Use this awesome tool [https://t.co/TsgunymeNt] 2 create a unique word cloud (or some other tool u love) to express what it means to u & add to this slidedeck: https://t.co/YDRixg8TYx Don’t forget to add ur name to ur slide! #cuechat
I think that depends on the freedom your admins give you. At least in Israel it's like that. Very few admins just don't care about test results. #cuechat
I find the academic researches the authority. I really believe in Self Determination Theory. Autonomy, Mastery, Relatedness are the basic human needs. #cuechat
A2: At the end of every classroom task/challenge/assignment... direction I tell students "But if you want to do something entirely different, you can- as long as it's rad or you tried to make it rad or had a rad time trying it. I might not say rad, but twitter #cuechat
Q2: Do you provide Ss with the freedom to choose how to show what they know? Are you building independence within your Ss by allowing them to choose their own evidence of learning? #cuechat
Are there ways to “bundle” the math standards? Rich tasks and projects will have students digging deep into multiple standards as well as the SMPs- #cuechat
A5: Competency-based Learning or standards-based grading depending on how far away from traditional grading measures you want to go... will definitely hold Ss accountable for their learning. Both types of assessing provides mastery as the target goal. #cuechat@AprilBuege
