Our chat will focus on the idea that we can lead and make positive change from any position in our school systems. Leadership is not about a title, it is a way of thinking and acting.

Q1: Too often we get stuck in simply managing a mediocre culture. What are the components that play a part in educators getting stuck in just maintaining the status quo? #LeadLAP#Culturize
A1: The problem is comfortable, you get a feel:"Things are so quiet, I like quiet." However, as we know quiet is where nothing happens, you have to look to make some noise and learn new things. #LeadLAP
A1: At some point in their careers some T’s begin to believe that what they do no longer matters or they are no longer making the difference they believed they would. Consequently, they lose hope. #LeadLAP#Culturize
A1: Too often leaders get stuck in the whirlwind of fires they put out. Soon this whirlwind takes over and leaders become reactive to all things rather than proactive. #leadLAP#Culturize
Good Morning #LeadLap!!!! Super pumped to be here & learn from the amazing @casas_jimmy!!
K-4 Lead Learner at my favorite place EVER @CapeFranklin!!! Cape G, MO!

Q1: Too often we get stuck in simply managing a mediocre culture. What are the components that play a part in educators getting stuck in just maintaining the status quo? #LeadLAP#Culturize
#LeadLAP
A1. Unfortunately, sometimes T'ers get some peer pressure to maintain status quo. Pushing for excellence and growth can be misinterpreted as "trying to show up" others
A1: We can get stuck in status quo when the management side of the job takes over the reasons why we do the job. Compliance components done for compliance and not with the why in mind ruins culture. #leadlap
A1: "It's always been done like..." Sometimes, Ts believe that change isn't a good thing. With one success, they become complacent with their work. In education, comfort zones can be a danger! #LeadLAP
Q1: Too often we get stuck in simply managing a mediocre culture. What are the components that play a part in educators getting stuck in just maintaining the status quo? #LeadLAP#Culturize
A1: nothing is broken so why fix it. Education isnt a spectator sport and it is so far in the past we got light yrs to get caught up. If youre not moving foward are you getting better?
#leadlap

Q1: Too often we get stuck in simply managing a mediocre culture. What are the components that play a part in educators getting stuck in just maintaining the status quo? #LeadLAP#Culturize
A1: Too often leaders get stuck in the whirlwind of fires they put out. Soon this whirlwind takes over and leaders become reactive to all things rather than proactive. #leadLAP#Culturize
Q1: Too often we get stuck in simply managing a mediocre culture. What are the components that play a part in educators getting stuck in just maintaining the status quo? #LeadLAP#Culturize
A1: When everyone around you simply maintains the status quo, what incentive is there to do anything different? Find the circle that pushes the boundaries. #leadlap
A1: If there are people in the organization that don't see the WHY, it can cause harm to the overall culture. Also strict mandates that sometimes are not best for kids. #leadlap
You have to focus them back on their WHY... Why did they get into this. Why Did they choose to be an educator and your have to make them fall in love all over again. #leadlap#Culturize
A1 It is the knowing that we've done it before and it's worked. We take out the fear of failure. That is what we need to create good lessons, a little fear of the unknown
#leadLAP
We have always done it this way...easier to stick than to change..being comfortable.... stagnant expectations from admin.....if it's not broken don't fix it....parent push back from change...teacher push back from change.... #LeadLAP
Q1: Too often we get stuck in simply managing a mediocre culture. What are the components that play a part in educators getting stuck in just maintaining the status quo? #LeadLAP#Culturize
Q1: Too often we get stuck in simply managing a mediocre culture. What are the components that play a part in educators getting stuck in just maintaining the status quo? #LeadLAP#Culturize
A1: Getting caught in the putting out fires mode and losing track of the living our vision mode. Taking care of the monkeys that don’t belong to us #shifttheminkey#leadlap
This is often talked about with our staff. It took a couple of years - but soon we were able to get past the it's not bragging it's sharing. But some still feel it. #LeadLAP
Q1: Too often we get stuck in simply managing a mediocre culture. What are the components that play a part in educators getting stuck in just maintaining the status quo? #LeadLAP#Culturize
A1: Components include a top down culture as well as micro managing from the admin. Also a "gotcha" attitude from the admin can make mediocrity the staple bc you are afraid to take risks #LeadLAp
A1: We fall victim to the belief that others are responsible for our morale, when in fact, we are responsible for our own morale. Our experiences will be whatever we want them to be so choose great! #LeadLAP#Culturize
A1: Sometimes it is simply that a leader doesn't know how. They have only experienced one way to lead and they do that. We need to help each other open our eyes to the possibilities! #LeadLAP
A1: Easy to do what we already know and are comfortable with. Gets hard when there is any change - takes effort. So many take the easy route because “life” takes over #LeadLAP
A1: being overwhelmed and stressed on a constant basis, educators begin to forget the real reason they got into education and become okay with the status quo. #LeadLAP
Q1: Too often we get stuck in simply managing a mediocre culture. What are the components that play a part in educators getting stuck in just maintaining the status quo? #LeadLAP#Culturize
As leaders we must build in the constant reminders to our team that they do matter. Reflect on why we do this work and beat that drum to all who are listening. Be a champion for your team. #leadLAP#culturize
A1: At some point in their careers some T’s begin to believe that what they do no longer matters or they are no longer making the difference they believed they would. Consequently, they lose hope. #LeadLAP#Culturize
A1: We have always done it this way...easier to stick than to change..being comfortable.... stagnant expectations from admin.....if it's not broken don't fix it....parent push back from change...teacher push back from change.... #LeadLAP
A1. As educators we can get comfortable with what’s easy and quick. Change and challenge can feel uncomfortable. Fear is usually a part of staying mediocre. #LeadLAP
Q1: Too often we get stuck in simply managing a mediocre culture. What are the components that play a part in educators getting stuck in just maintaining the status quo? #LeadLAP#Culturize
A1: We fall victim to the belief that others are responsible for our morale, when in fact, we are responsible for our own morale. Our experiences will be whatever we want them to be so choose great! #LeadLAP#Culturize
A1 to much routine we allow they daily grind to become the standard and stop pushing. We need to focus on making our selves uncomfortable and being comfortable with it #Leadlap
A1: I love the notion of being a "why not" leader instead of a "why" manager. Some of us need a creative outlet to flourish & our ideas validate our work. Having leaders who promote creativity & a passionate love for learning helps create a Ss focused culture. #LeadLAP
A1 Getting parents, staff and the community the knowledge to understand why we need to make some changes to our teaching and learning practices so that students are ready for their world that they will live in! #LeadLAP
A1: We focus on the wrong people...like @ToddWhitaker and @ronclarkacademy remind us, we need to focus on our best people/runners instead of the naysayers/riders
#LeadLAP
Q1: Too often we get stuck in simply managing a mediocre culture. What are the components that play a part in educators getting stuck in just maintaining the status quo? #LeadLAP#Culturize
A1: As teachers we need to be willing to learn and develop as much as our students. Our attitudes and actions set the tone of classroom culture. Positive people lead more positive lives. #LeadLAP
A1: It’s easy to fall into just going through the motions, especially if there is no one around you pushing you to rise. We worry about getting behind or failing if we take a risk. But being on a campus that encourages innovation can make all the difference! #LeadLAP
YES! I have heard from many that become disengaged when the "pendulum of education" swings back and with change of leadership, focus comes and goes. #LeadLap#Culturize
A1: I think Ts are control freaks by nature (usually a good thing) and more often than not change brings chaos and creates a mess before it settles and we see the benefits and positive outcomes of said change. It gets worse before it gets better is the fear. #LeadLAP
A1- just had a convo with one of my teachers. She’s doing great things and said she was scared to share too much of what’s she’s doing because of criticism from other teachers. I had to assure her that people want her to share. Don’t let one or two people stop her: #LeadLAP
#LeadLAP how many schools/Districts have a (let's call it) "100% growth policy" where every T HAS to go to a conference/edcamp or read some edu books & report back - or do they all think "our in house PD is best"
#leadlap A1 That moment when you want to keep reusing lessons that you used last decade. Worked with many Trs who don't want to change what they do. Be willing to change and adapt to new teaching techniques. #KidsDeserveIt
A1: It can also be lack of accountability to each other. Do we accept that it is ok to be mediocre or do we hold each other to a higher standard? #LeadLAP
A1: We fall victim to the belief that others are responsible for our morale, when in fact, we are responsible for our own morale. Our experiences will be whatever we want them to be so choose great! #LeadLAP#Culturize
A1: It can be difficult to step away from the crowd and pursue passions. BUT we need to be brave and follow our hearts, regardless of what others say or do. #leadlap
A1: We tend to ignore not address negativity in staff, we ignore passive aggressive behavior in staff, and seldom are these things addressed to the actual individuals jeopardizing our school culture . Usually it’s dealt with by telling the whole group. #LeadLAP
Q1: Too often we get stuck in simply managing a mediocre culture. What are the components that play a part in educators getting stuck in just maintaining the status quo? #LeadLAP#Culturize
A1- I’ve been places where complacency was the problem. If you accept that good enough is good enough, you’ll never grow. You have to make sure Ts push themselves and Ss to grow every day. Never accept the status quo #leadlap
A1: We get stuck in just going thru the motions. Survival kicks in. I find this especially true is you work with a high needs pop. High expectations for all is the only way to not get stuck. #leadlap
A1: I think sometimes we cloud over what the culture is really like. We have it determined in our mind what it looks like and convince ourselves that is where we are when in fact reality is far from our vision. #LeadLAP
A1: Focusing on the wrong things. Too many initiatives and new things all at once becomes overwhelming and makes it easier to fall backwards instead of moving forwards. #leadlap
A1 Teachers & Administrators must feel they r part of a culture that welcomes risk-taking, creativity, & hard work (yes, hard work), to help S & T achieve great success. By example, leaders need to let folks know that doing one's best is hard, and includes error. #leadlap
A1: You get stuck when you lose focus on your goals, or just don't have any. Then you are simply fulfilling job requirements instead of embracing the role of educator. #LEADlap
A1: Being a Change Agent is hard work! Changing mediocre culture is probably the hardest because there is no sense of urgency in the minds of many. They feel like everything is "fine". Shifting these mindsets takes monumental energy and patience. #LeadLAP
Q1: Too often we get stuck in simply managing a mediocre culture. What are the components that play a part in educators getting stuck in just maintaining the status quo? #LeadLAP#Culturize
A1. Leaders are highly impacted by the models of leadership they’ve seen and experienced. It’s important to develop multiple mental models of effective leadership. Limits your perspective if you’ve only learned from one person. #LeadLAP
I agree. I think that we feel like we'll make things worse if we directly address the person...we have to stop allowing the negative possibilities stop us from being honest. #LeadLAP
A1 FEAR. Fear of evaluation, fear of test scores, fear of risk, fear of failure, fear of repirsal, fear of parents. We have made Teaching a #RISK averse profession through micromanagement and lack of autonomy. #LeadLAP
A1: Change and doing something different is not easy with bumps and bruises along the way. It's EASY to continue doing what is known. That's why we have to encourage Ts as well as each other to continue trying! #LeadLAP
Q1: Too often we get stuck in simply managing a mediocre culture. What are the components that play a part in educators getting stuck in just maintaining the status quo? #LeadLAP#Culturize
This is where reflection needs to be a stronger component of our leadership. We know the topics/areas that consume our time. How do we build proactive systems to get ahead? #LeadLAP
A1: We fall victim to the belief that others are responsible for our morale, when in fact, we are responsible for our own morale. Our experiences will be whatever we want them to be so choose great! #LeadLAP#Culturize
A1. "You can't see the forest because of the trees" comes to mind. Everyone is so busy with the details of day to day tasks, they get lost. They lose their vision. #culturize#LeadLAP
A1: We fall victim to the belief that others are responsible for our morale, when in fact, we are responsible for our own morale. Our experiences will be whatever we want them to be so choose great! #LeadLAP#Culturize
A1 Fear of resistance, avoidance of crucial conversations that would/could move organization forward, and prioritizing tasks that aren't the meaty ones. #LeadLAP
A1: Good is the enemy of great. We, in schools, sometimes become complacent. Change and it’s unknown components hold us back from taking the next step towards Greatness. #leadlap#Culturize
A1: Complacency is definitely comfortable for so many. Shifting a culture to the expectation of always challenging each other helps defy the status quo. #leadlap
A1: many times, that’s what we are accustomed to in life. Mediocre is good enough because it allows us to move on each day instead of stepping to the forefront to change it. We need to coach ourselves & others to expect more #LeadLAP
A1: Often we don’t see ourselves at stuck, we think it’s everyone around us who needs to implement change. If every individual isn’t willing to reflect on moving beyond mediocre, then those collective individuals continue in a cycle of mediocrity #LeadLAP
Q1: Too often we get stuck in simply managing a mediocre culture. What are the components that play a part in educators getting stuck in just maintaining the status quo? #LeadLAP#Culturize
#LeadLAP#Culturize I think it is a feeling that nothing they do matters or will@make a difference. Few Ts do all the extras & eventually they burn out bc no one else steps up
Q1: Too often we get stuck in simply managing a mediocre culture. What are the components that play a part in educators getting stuck in just maintaining the status quo? #LeadLAP#Culturize
A1: Failure to realize that you are a leader and you can make a change.....people will notice and follow.... don't get caught up in that title to make a chance #LeadLAP
So true! We need to have accountability partners to keep striving for greatness in all we do, while supporting each other when the waters are choppy. #LeadLAP
Q2: Our schools don’t need more awfulizers negatively impacting our school climate & culture. How can we carry the banner (be a positive voice) & be the awesomizers our schools deserve? #LeadLAP#Culturize
#Culturize#LeadLap A1: I believe the key to avoiding status quo in the area of culture is to have a system across your organization in which everyone, including students, works on improving their self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy and social skills.
A1: It can also be lack of accountability to each other. Do we accept that it is ok to be mediocre or do we hold each other to a higher standard? #LeadLAP
A1: Sometimes the definition of status quo is misunderstood. Some may think what they are doing is innovative and enough. Defining it is a must. #leadlap
A1: We fall victim to the belief that others are responsible for our morale, when in fact, we are responsible for our own morale. Our experiences will be whatever we want them to be so choose great! #LeadLAP#Culturize
I agree. We need to have the courage to have the tough conversations and expect everyone to row together towards a common goal if we are to create a culture of excellence! #LeadLAP
I feel like everyone wants to get better, but it is a risk to do something new to get there. Being risk averse might keep us from improving. Leaders need to make it easy to be passionate, excited about new opportunities, just like teachers must do with their students. #leadlap
A1: Fear, complacency, not knowing anything different and not being challenged to think anything different. As leaders we must lead this and set the example. It’s #WB4K#LeadLAP
Q2: Our schools don’t need more awfulizers negatively impacting our school climate & culture. How can we carry the banner (be a positive voice) & be the awesomizers our schools deserve? #LeadLAP#Culturize
A1: Failure to realize that you are a leader and you can make a change.....people will notice and follow.... don't get caught up in that title to make a chance #LeadLAP
A1: It can be difficult to step away from the crowd and pursue passions. BUT we need to be brave and follow our hearts, regardless of what others say or do. #leadlap
A1. It’s so easy to get stuck-especially when there’s lots to improve. The little things can become big things, and what should be easy can become hard. The key is focusing and prioritizing for what really matters. #LeadLAP
True! but it's not always what's best for students, right?!? The idea that students have to learn "The way I teach" needs to be out the door. It's about "teaching the way THEY learn!" #LeadLAP
Q1: Too often we get stuck in simply managing a mediocre culture. What are the components that play a part in educators getting stuck in just maintaining the status quo? #LeadLAP#Culturize
A2: Model positive interactions. Every interaction w/ a student, staff member or parent is one single moment to inspire more positive interactions & to impact every person in a positive way. #LeadLAP#Culturize
Q2: Our schools don’t need more awfulizers negatively impacting our school climate & culture. How can we carry the banner (be a positive voice) & be the awesomizers our schools deserve? #LeadLAP#Culturize
Be part of the solution, not the problem. When people are negative, change the subject, and do your best to share positive attitudes and stories. #leadlap
Q2: Our schools don’t need more awfulizers negatively impacting our school climate & culture. How can we carry the banner (be a positive voice) & be the awesomizers our schools deserve? #LeadLAP#Culturize
A2: This...@gcouros is absolutely right...share out the positives...social media is an amazing engine to do so...focus on those who are on your bus for the right reasons. #LeadLAP
A1: comfort zones & silos play a part as well. As a leader, it’s my job to model stepping out of the comfort zone to help Ts, Ss & community members. This can help change the culture from isolation to collaboration and shows what we value #LeadLAP
#LeadLAP
Yes! I've had these lessons the last two years. People watch you, especially when the leader inside of you just comes naturally. If you let things slide, they often question why you haven't stood up. Even if we might think it's not our place to say/do something. #LeadLAP
A2: Go ROGUE #4ocf be the change.... start surrounding yourself by those who share your feelings.... appyhours, educoffee, book studies....anything that can add to the teacher culture of lifelong learning #LeadLAP
Q2: Our schools don’t need more awfulizers negatively impacting our school climate & culture. How can we carry the banner (be a positive voice) & be the awesomizers our schools deserve? #LeadLAP#Culturize
A2 Choose to bring it everyday with your passion and enthusiasm letting people know they are valued and important and promoting and encouraging growth and risk #Leadlap
A2: Leaders must be the champions for their team. This means ALWAYS beating the drum of our why, communicating our what, and empowering our team to determine the how of our work. #LeadLAP#culturize
I like the phrase "moving the needle"! I agree that it doesn't take a revolution to create change but rather a series of thoughtful, courageous steps in the right direction! #LeadLAP
Exactly! Status quo bias says we won’t change because it’s costing us something. Time, opinions, money, etc... We gain so much more than we lose by challenging the status quo! #leadlap
A2: Never forget that your body is listening to everything your mind says. Strive to project an attitude of “we shall overcome.” You become what you believe! #LeadLAP#Culturize
A2: Be willing to step out and do new things. Encourage those around us to try- and to "fail gloriously." Ts need to work as a team to build a school culture that praises innovation & #growthmindset - even for Ts. #LeadLAP
A2: Bring the best out every day, listen to feedback, but don't "sell out" to make others happy. You have to be an inspiration for positive energy. #LeadLAP
A2: Instead of saying Yes, But... start with Yes, AND! Encourage staff to take their ideas and take it up a notch. Support them in their implementation #leadlap
A2 continue to push our own practices and share outcomes. “Awesomizers” need to get to the young/new staff first. As principal, I have to live what I expect. Help coach those that need help and give support. #LeadLAP
Q2: Our schools don’t need more awfulizers negatively impacting our school climate & culture. How can we carry the banner (be a positive voice) & be the awesomizers our schools deserve? #LeadLAP#Culturize
A2: To be the voice that’s heard, we need to listen. When we slow down to listen to the rhythm around us and show we care, our voice will be better received. #LeadLAP
A2 Lead by example. Quietly with intent. The kids will notice and so will the faculty. Be there when asked, Listen when asked. Celebrate the team! #LeadLAP
My response to this is always data. If the numbers show kids are learning the innovation should stayBUT if there is no built in way to measure efficacy it may need to be revised #LeadLAP
A2. I think it’s high time for educators to lead the narrative on our field from the classroom to the policy room. We have to move the conversations about our great work beyond our classroom walls and inner educator circle! #imagesofed#LeadLAP
Q2: Our schools don’t need more awfulizers negatively impacting our school climate & culture. How can we carry the banner (be a positive voice) & be the awesomizers our schools deserve? #LeadLAP#Culturize
A2: First I have yet to read #culturize but I will especially if "awesomizers" is a word. I think we just must do it, the kids deserve a positive beacon and so do our coworkers. Don't jump on the hate train. Find the good and run with it. #LeadLAP
Q2: Our schools don’t need more awfulizers negatively impacting our school climate & culture. How can we carry the banner (be a positive voice) & be the awesomizers our schools deserve? #LeadLAP#Culturize
A2: Confront negativity. You can do it in a respectful way, but remember what you permit you promote. So do not let toxicity exist in your school. #LeadLAP
A2: Going beyond being positive within the walls of our schools, to promoting positivity in our community and beyond. Social media is our ally in this. #leadlap
A2: having fierce conversations, be a model by showing risk yourself and that it is okay to take risks and mistakes. Positive growth can only occur with risk and effort. Applaud the effort even if it is an epic fail. #LeadLAP
A2- I am relentlessly upbeat but realistic. I try and exude confidence and positivity every day. Like @gcouros says, “make the positive so loud, no one can hear the negative!” #leadlap
Q2: Our schools don’t need more awfulizers negatively impacting our school climate & culture. How can we carry the banner (be a positive voice) & be the awesomizers our schools deserve? #LeadLAP#Culturize
A2: Recognize & celebrate the POSITIVE with ENERGY, LOVE, GUSTO, & GRIT! Celebrate it with such power & enthusiasm that the negative can't breathe or even exist! #leadlap
A2: be more PIRATE and promote model and live the positives when you feel like you are becoming or sound like an Awfulizer, think what would Dave do? What would Jimmy do? Is this building culture! Am I being the best I can...is this who I wish to be! #culturize#LeadLAP
A2: lead with a pure heart, support even when it’s hard and exhausting. Maintain, share and celebrate high and purposeful expectations #culturize#LeadLAP
A2. You are who your friends are! If you hang with gossip, and, negativity, and fools you risk becoming one of them. Find your positive tribe! #LeadLAP
A2- Gotta spread that positivity 100 times more. People will latch onto negativity pretty quicjly. You have to spread the positive message over and over again before folks latch onto it. Be positive! #leadlap
A2: We can be very public with our positivity and enthusiasm...but we can also be stealth with meaningful notes and even sublime with intentional messages and symbols #LeadLAP#Culturize
A2 You don't need permission to add more positivity to the school- ask what can I do to add value to the people I work with each day (colleagues, students, staff, parents, etc.) Then go DO IT! #LeadLAP
A2: lead by example! Don’t let the negatives get you down and stay positive! Celebrate the positive and don’t let the negative get celebrated! #LeadLAP
A2: Being an awesomizer is a choice. Choose to see the positive everyday. Believe that nobody gets up and wants to come to school/work to have a bad day. Find the win, the awesome, of the day and celebrate it. #LeadLAP
#LeadLAP A1: Too many times a focus on increasing of test scores overruns the desire of innovation. We support teachers and kids to try something new if it will bring about higher levels of student achievement—not the daring but the safe bets. #dadsasprincipals
A2: Intentionality! Yes, stay away from negativity - but if we don't get close to it - we won't support the change! It is our OBLIGATION says @casas_jimmy in #Culturize#LeadLAP
A2: Find a positive in the negative people until they start to believe it. Every minute, every hour, every day! Eventually others with look for it too. #LeadLAP
A2 NO other Way! We have the ability to make everyone’s day a little brighter. Shout off the negative noise in your school and office and give unexpectedly. #LeadLAP
A2: I try and surround myself with "positive". I thrive off positive energy. I try and avoid the negative as much as possible. That can impact me as well. #leadlap
Q2: Our schools don’t need more awfulizers negatively impacting our school climate & culture. How can we carry the banner (be a positive voice) & be the awesomizers our schools deserve? #LeadLAP#Culturize
A2: it’s important to be mindful of every interaction, both verbal and nonverbal. Your actions and reactions can be the catalyst to change. Encourage other awesome positive teachers and find ways to build better relationships with the negative ones as well. #LeadLAP#Culturize
Q2: Our schools don’t need more awfulizers negatively impacting our school climate & culture. How can we carry the banner (be a positive voice) & be the awesomizers our schools deserve? #LeadLAP#Culturize
A2: We can't look the other way when negativity surfaces. Talking to the source is the most proactive thing we can do! It may be a hard conversation, but it will be worth it. The negative source should be uncomfortable, not us. #leadlap
A2: Take time to show your appreciation knowing that a person who feels valued & appreciated will always do more and give more than what is expected. The most heartfelt message we can share w/others is our genuine gratitude. #LeadLAP#Culturize
A1: Some Ts find a process that is comfortable & manageable for them & they don’t want any more change because they have found what works best for them not necessarily what works best for the Ss. #leadlap
Q1: Too often we get stuck in simply managing a mediocre culture. What are the components that play a part in educators getting stuck in just maintaining the status quo? #LeadLAP#Culturize
A2: Look for the positives - in students, colleagues - and point them out. Take complaining as a discussion of problems of practice and then ask “Now what? What can WE do to change that?” #leadlap
A2 Call out those who are negative around us. Difficult but necessary. Be strong and don’t let the nay sayers get inside your head. Look at life through the half full perspective. #LeadLAP
Amen! As a leader, we have to determine how to help others see the need for greatness. Connect hearts to minds and stimulate the desire to move from good to great. #LeadLAP
A2 - You have to bring your awesome every single day, every moment and with every experience! Cloud out the negative with so much positivity that those naysayers either get on board or get to packing! #LeadLAP
"If we want meaningful change, we have to make a connection to the heart before we can make a connection to the mind." @gcouros We need to work on #relationships ! #LeadLAP
A2: continue to be an example for others. It is hard sometimes to not become discouraged and withdraw when the climate/culture is not positive #LeadLAP
A2: Never forget that your body is listening to everything your mind says. Strive to project an attitude of “we shall overcome.” You become what you believe! #LeadLAP#Culturize
A2: Look for the positives - in students, colleagues - and point them out. Take complaining as a discussion of problems of practice and then ask “Now what? What can WE do to change that?” #leadlap
A2. Educators need to be involved in caring for the health of our profession locally, statewide, nationally, & globally. We have a tendency to stay on the sidelines and share in our inner circle. It’s time to elevate the profession& get involved where it starts AND ends #LeadLAP
A2: Empowering all with the idea that positivity makes the work more enjoyable is a way to allow them to see the positive. This will also create buy-in to the want to make things better. Others positivity becomes contagious. #LeadLAP
A 2: In the great state of Texas we have been greatly blessed by @FOTPStx@FOTPSLeslie@fotpsJane and they are leading the way in being a positive voice for Texas public schools! I am fortunate to be an Ambassador for @BastropISD ❤️#LeadLap#culturize
In reply to
@casas_jimmy, @FOTPStx, @FOTPSLeslie, @fotpsJane, @BastropISD
A2. @KentPeterson69 advice, "What u pay attention to and spend time on communicates what u value" is critical. As a principal Kent's advice was a key to my success. So: What do u value? &, How will u indicate what is valued? (Begin w high expectations for ALL S & T.) #leadlap

A2 Leaders are not defined by titles and those that have the title need to lead from behind. Your success is defined by the success of others. Positive energy breeds positive results. #culturize#leadlap
Just by reading the first two questions, I want to read @casas_jimmy book! I am all about building positive culture and look forward to getting more ideas that will help me minimize the awfulizers. #LeadLAP

A2: Check your personal problems in the parking lot. Leaders are watched from the time they get out of the car and walk into school each day. The school is a reflection of you as much as the classrooms are reflections of their teachers. #LeadLAP
A2: Love what you do!! Lead with a smile! Relationships are key. We must model these as adults if we expect adults and Ss to treat others with respect and kindness. Make it a place they are running to get into! #LeadLAP#ssdpride#warriorscreate#JoinTogetherJanuary
A2b: I'm so thankful for a teammate that I can bounce ideas off of and is willing to try crazy ideas with me. We run on the same wavelength & are constantly thinking of new ideas to use in our rooms! Building on each other's strengths and trying new ideas creates change #LeadLAP

A2. I have to say I don’t think educators are the crux of the issue of the negativity we are subject to in this field. We need to think long and hard about how others outside of our field are and have affected the health of our profession. #LeadLAP
#LeadLAP#Culturize@casas_jimmy I smile all the time! I give hugs, I listen to parents on the phone telling me their life stories... Most of all, I don’t interrupt. It is too easy to fall in the negativity trap so I try to remember what a privilege it is to be where I am today
A2. We always need to support those teachers who are successful. We should never take the great teachers for granted. I think Blanchard & Johnson once said, "Even champions need coaches." #leadlap

I could not agree more and educators have been conditioned not to speak up in my opinion. Those days need to end quickly. The health of our profession is under siege IMO. The time is now. #LEADlap
A3- Model teachers genuinely want to be in the classroom, show joy in the learning and growth of others, and use the down days to make the next day better!#Leadlap

LeffingwellDan: RT bobby__dodd: A1: many times, that’s what we are accustomed to in life. Mediocre is good enough because it allows us to move on each day instead of stepping to the forefront to change it. We need to coach ourselves & others to expect more #LeadLAP
A3 #LeadLAP Continuing learning, readying, studying. Share what reading/learning with Ss, other Ts, and school Leaders too. Be willing to share when inspired to make change

A2: LOVE THIS! The only cost would be your humility, bravery, and willingness to jolt even if you get rejected initially. Persistence works every time if we come from a genuine space of joy! Payoff is exponential. #LeadLAP#Culturize
A3: Model failure...show students how to fail...that it's ok....and how to fix it...let them know it will happen....it's not a negative... it means your brain is growing!! #LeadLAP

A3: #Culturize#LeadLAP@casas_jimmy Teachers are amazing when they learn with their students; when they fail with their students; when they laugh with their students. When I walk into that classroom it’s like walking in the kitchen of a home.
A3: be authentic. Be yourself. Believe in the Ss & help them to believe in themselves. Be their champion. Fight for them not with them. Make connections. Be present. Don’t let the scores define the S. #LeadLAP#Culturize
A3: Model teachers are compassionate, loving, show empathy, and respectful to others, especially their students. Being a Model/Master Teacher is so much more than having high test scores and good instruction. There has to be a relationship. #LeadLAP
A2 Highlighting other budding or current awesomizers around us. Also, reflecting daily if we displayed traits of an awesomizer (talking to myself! too critical!) or migrate to the status quo... #leadlap

I didn’t respond to this question because I often don’t feel like the model teacher. I struggle, I feel like I fall short, but I absolutely know that I have great relationships with my students and that matters. Thanks @DennisDill! #LeadLAP
IDK what makes a model teacher ... i don't fit the mold of a "model" teacher but my kids are successful and they enjoy learning with me. I don't call home ... or give hugs ... can't keep paperwork organized ... but I have positive relationships with my kids #leadlap
Once again passionate educators show their dedication to their profession by spending another hour on a Sat morning learning from one another. #LeadLAP#Culturize

A3: Model teachers are focused on learning, recognize that everyday is a new day, connect with students, and know that the student is more important than the subject.
#LEADlap
A4: Open communication has to be there so everyone is on the same page....without it, isolation kicks in....school culture is threatened in isolation.....it takes a village #LeadLAP
#leadlap Some of these posters decorate my classroom. How many teachers use their phrases and their pictures to make posters? I will post another album soon. Teach with #MorePower#tlaphttps://t.co/mzM5ectf4A
A3 Model Teachers demonstrate a positive willingness to play in the band supporting each other with joy and positivity like The Beatles did when they played their epic, last gig on a rooftop in the freezing winter afternoon. #LeadLAP
well everyone, I am out of here. I have a things to get done this morning and seeing my nephew before he heads back to school. Have a great day. #LeadLAP
A4: Timely communication is vital. Avoid last minute communication. If this becomes the norm, people will begin to question your effectiveness as a leader. #LeadLAP#Culturize

A4 I have learned that I have to communicate in the way the parent is most comfortable so that means many different way to communicate. It is important to be transparent. I have to reach the parent the way they are willing to receive the info! #LeadLAP#Culturize
A4: Ineffective communication causes unnecessary stress, confusion, and lack or direction. We all make mistakes, but communicating proactively and positively can building trust, sense of security and respect #leadlap#tlap#culturize
A1 Getting parents, staff and the community the knowledge to understand why we need to make some changes to our teaching and learning practices so that students are ready for their world that they will live in! #LeadLAP
A4: Poor comm leads to people feeling left out & offended (esp when others find out 1st). It leads to confusion and grumbling ... communication is key! Share ideas, give shout outs & feedback, and listen, listen, listen! #LeadLAP
Poor communication lends itself to no true direction. Teachers, students and stakeholders want to know what is expected of them. Communication is a game changer #LeadLAP
A4: Poor communication can create confusion, anxiety and lead people astray from the mission. Clarity precedes competence....we must provide clarity in our communication. #leadlap
A4: In current PD read learning about goals. Questions it poses are:
What is the goal?
Am I passionate about it?
HOW WILL I REACH IT?
How will I be held accountable?
(The 4 Disciplines of Execution)
#leadlap
A4. It’s not all about what you communicate. Somentkmes@it’s what is not communicated that leads to a negative culture. When we fail to address poor performance, our best employees notice it. Garaunteed. #LeadLAP
A4: It isolates and deflates many. Becomes a secretive culture and the rock stars will want out. No one knows the direction, mantra or where we are headed and how am I doing? #Culturize#LeadLAP
Review McGregor's Theory X & Y. X assumes all folks r negative, need th stick, negative leadership.Theory Y assumes folks r naturally positive & encourages leadership that leads 2 more creativity, success, & a positive culture; Believe in your teachers! Theory Y works! #leadlap
A4: What are our words really saying or leaving out? Are we truly listening to each other? Poor communication leaves too many gaps...gaps create cracks for our kids to fall through #LeadLAP
A4: poor communication = wrong message
Communicating with our parents and community members sends the message that they matter and are needed! #LeadLAP
#LeadLAP
A4. And what about NO communication? That's really hard! You can email asking for help or feedback and NOTHING. Certainly doesn't help the culture.
A4: Poor communication means someone is not listening which means they only care about what they are saying. This behavior does not build trust and respect and without that you build a culture of fear. #leadlap#culturize jumping in late- Barbara from CA
A4: one of the leading causes. A closed off admin that shares selectively out of control is disastrous to school culture. Openly sharing what they can builds that trust that we can all communicate openly. #leadlap
A4: Poor communication builds walls rather than breaks them. It can separate Admin from Ts & Ts from Ss. The most effective cultures are truly all on the same team from the bottom up. It also shows tremendous respect and commitment to have open communication. #Culturize#LeadLAP
A4 Ineffective communication leaves everyone wondering and wandering without a focus on a greater purpose and vision. A school community needs to see the same outcome of a goal and work together to achieve it. #leadLAP

A4- we have to create our own brand. We can’t let the Media tell people who we are, that’s our job. To do that, we have to put our story out there on social media, in the community, and with our faculty. Make sure you stay focused and consistent and above all, honest #LeadLAP
A4. We need authentic communication-which requires a great deal of trust. Sometimes School leaders make it difficult for Teachers to be honest because they categorize truth as negative. You can’t fix what you don’t acknowledge. 🧐 #LeadLAP

A3 Model teachers are adults you would not mind your child(ren) to be raised by forever! Crazy, energetic, risk-takers, tireless learners open to let others drive the learning experiences for all students! #leadlap
