A1:Productive math discourse is conversations btwnSs that clarify ideas about math. Unproductive would be off topic or frustrated.

A2: Modeling and practicing discourse help students see and hear what it should be. Sentence Frames/Starters and clear roles help.

It's important to modeling what listening looks & sounds like. Most students just know how to listen to respond.

A4: I think mathematical communication can be assessed, but discourse between students is for processing and learning, not grades.
