The original authentic learning is the apprenticeship where a master working his craft teaches a working apprentice. All very hands on and involved. #gtchat
Please remember to use the #gtchat hashtag to participate in the conversation. This will make sure that other chat participants see your tweets. #gtchat
Our first question is coming up; let’s get ready to chat! Please preface your responses with A1) Excited to collaborate and share ideas with you today about authentic learning! #gtchat
A2) Authentic learning requires higher-order questioning/thinking; an ability to express conclusions in writing. This leads to intellectual development and career success. #gtchat
A2) Authentic learning increases ops for authentic engagement of our G/T Ss. It also provides space to be affirmed, validated, and even "seen" as changers, thinkers, and perhaps even budding experts in a given area as they make connections in their learning #gtchat
A2) Authentic learning is achieved through academic discourse and argument which is the essence of intellectual maturity and a way to nourish critical thinking capacity. #gtchat

A3) we became art curators this week analyzing Vermeer’s paintings and their relevancy to his culture and time period. Chasing Vermeer was our inspiration to take a deeper look into art. #gtchat
A4) An authentic learning environment must provide a way for meaningful exploration and discussion of real-world concerns; not simply predetermined projects. #gtchat
A4) Authentic learning environments extend beyond the boundaries of the traditional classroom; a place where ideas are tested and meaningful concepts actually can solve problems. #gtchat
A4) Needs to feel like a place where students can make mistakes and learn from failure. Where they feel safe to explore and try new things. Also needs to have a variety of resources, books, tech, materials, and supplies to support exploration and inquiry #gtchat
A4) Authentic learning environments should give students the opportunity to use their own initiative to attempt to find and create solutions to real problems #gtchat

A4) Authentic learning environments can include simulation-based learning, student media creation, inquiry-based learning, peer-based evaluation, working with research data or working with remote instruments. #gtchat
A4 Well, it's not laid out in an array of rows and columns with no interaction. Ss should be able to move around and engage, collaborate, and learn with other students.
A4) Authentic learning environments should give students the opportunity to use their own initiative to attempt to find and create solutions to real problems #gtchat
A5) Authentic learning helps students develop skills to be able to verify the reliability of newly learned information; the ability to complete complex problems; to recognize relative patterns in new contexts. #gtchat
A5) Authentic learning encourages students to engage in cross-curricular activities; seeing value in this process. It also creates the curiosity to work across cultural boundaries and find creative solutions to problems on which they’re working. #gtchat
Q5 I think it would be easier to list what skills CAN'T: none
Authentic learning can develop all the skills required in the curriculum standards, 21st century skills and any other skill we don't even know of or hasn't been created yet. #gtchat
A6) I have my Ss reflect and tell me/prove to me what grade they should really get and b/c this is new to them, what grade they would give themselves to keep Ps happy. #gtchat
A6) Build it around goals developed by students. They can align with other standards, but I'd think the students should be following their own guidance most of all. #gtchat
A6) Students could be asked to evaluate the experience, how successful the outcome was and what they had learned by doing it and given feedback about it from others involved #gtchat
A6) Authentic assessment can be produced by a teacher and is in stark contrast to standardized testing. Presentation before an authentic audience can enhance the product for students. #gtchat
