We are excited you have joined us tonight! Let's get to the first question! Please remember to reply beginning with A1 (Answer 1) and your response! #UCPSChat
A1: 1:1 chrome books have really accelerated my students learning. They are able to use myOn, and dream box, and I-ready for intervention. Students are able to research and gain more hands on knowledge with computers! #UCPSChat
A1: #UCPSChat Using our new mini iPads with MyON Reader has been a fantastic tool for students to read with throughout the day. I love that I can push books and projects out to them and they are so interested in reading with the new technology.
@ucpschat A1: no classroom here, but I LOVE the Smithsonian's Tween Tribune for #Literacy4U and current events! You can read articles at mult Lexiles! #UCPSChat
A1 So my resource is the resource that organizes all of our digital resources! @LearnTrials helps us to find new resources, find out what's approved, and request new tools! #ucpschat
.@ucpschat A1: Anything that enables Sts to be in charge of their own learning...to innovate, generate and promote high learning. Yep! #EmpowerED#ucpschat

A1. Have access to the IPads is a huge motivator and a chance for them to focus on a certain skill and not be distracted by something else and having a chance to practice on dreambox, I-Ready,etc. #UCPSChat
@ucpschat@IndianTrailES I like kahoot and plickers, both allowed students to see class results of answer choices and lead to great discussing about the different answer choices and which is a better option #UCPSChat
A1) I am a huge fan of YouTube in terms of exploring different genres of music with my students. Today, it is so easy to explore the influences of a given musician by listening to live examples and personal accounts of creativity. #ucpschat
A1: I also love seeing how excited my students are to get back into a book they are reading on myOn, and completing the graphic organizers, and the project I push out! #UCPSChat

A2: I'm still the old school lady who likes to hold a book in her hand. My kids are the same way. Libraries rock! We have also used the 3D printer at the library. #ucpschat
A2: I recently just checked out fractured fairy tales from the library so my students had access to multiple ones to be able to compare, describe, discuess them and learn even more and they LOVED it! #UCPSChat
SO this is a personal use, but I could not live without overdrive! I listen to audio books FOR FREE!!! Thanks @UCPLNC for fueling my addiction for audiobooks while I drive! #ucpschat A3 or is it A2?
Q2: I recently heard about the new partnership with Union County Public Library. I like to check out music recordings from the Mecklenburg Library, as I live near East Meck High School. I am really excited that I will be able to utilize the library here near UCPS. #UCPSchat
.@ucpschat A2: sorry tweeps. This is where digital meets printed texts. Need both based on need. I like to hold a 📚 in my ✋🏻. Just being real. #UCPSChat
A2: I’ve used the library to find more resources for our Reading Across Genres unit- I would love to implement and use more resources in my classroom. #UCPSChat
A2: The LEAP initiative w/@UCPLNC is a great partnership! The resources provided enable us to further empower our #TeamUCPS Ts and Families! #UCPSChat#Literacy4U
A2: I haven't recently been using resources, but thanks to our partnership I can't wait to dive in and find resources for my students to use and learn from! #UCPSChat
A3: more e-books would benefit my students, and getting some kind of interactive promethean or smart board for centers, or interactive games for learning! #UCPSChat
A3: More technology in the classroom for students to individually use more than once a week in the room just be to sure that everyone gets a chance. IPads or computers...having more availability for more students more times during the day. #UCPSChat
A3: I'd love to find a way to get books in K-2 kids homes. My 1st grade buddy reader has zero books at his house. Well, until I went home and raided my kids bookshelf... #ucpschat
I would love to be able override website blocks with a teacher code or other way to establish that I was the one controlling my computer. Unfortunately, many arts websites are blocked as entertainment when I could use them for educational purposes. #ucpschat
A3: We need more devices in the hands of our k-2 students. The resources are too good to not be able to use with all students at the same time. We would also love to have more STEM resources! Robotics, coding, etc. to engage our stud. and prepare them for future careers #UCPSChat
.@ucpschat A3: would love to see Quiver/ Aug.reality....robotics, engineering... so much, just can't name it all. Video production. 3:1 iPad distribution for K-2. #UCPSChat
A3: I would love the opportunity to have newer iPads & possibly even a class set to incorporate in lessons. My students would love to have interactive lessons on them and would be very beneficial for small group work. #UCPSChat
@ucpschat A3: More sharing of resources to help Ts and sts grow, so...We're building a digital library of Ts modeling best practices! #UCPSChat@Joey_Barker#BeTheBest
An example would websites that could feature guitar chords for my ukulele student, or teacher sponsored websites that analyze pop artists. I know that student may want to use these sites for entertainment, but that is why there would be a teacher code. #ucpschat
Put in a helpdesk ticket with as many sites listed as possible. We can unblock those for sure. Our filter works on categories, and many are labeled "entertainment" We can set those sites to be approved! #ucpschat
A4: Students need a 50/50 ratio-although times are changing to more digital based learning, students still need the love of a book in their hands. #UCPSChat
.@ucpschat Q4: it depends! EmpowerED means differentiate based on sts needs. Disciplinary Literacy means sts can have the b st of both worlds with them in mind. #UCPSChat#AreUEmpowerED
A4: Balance is key. Not sure there is a “correct ratio”. Personalized learning is all abt the T being the facilitator! Meet Ss where they are and empower them to be leaders of their own learning! #UCPSChat
In my life I like 50/50 but I think kids each have their own ratio. Lets give them the opportunity to choose and give them options, just like the real world! #empowerED A4 #ucpschat
.@ucpschat Q4: it depends! EmpowerED means differentiate based on sts needs. Disciplinary Literacy means sts can have the b st of both worlds with them in mind. #UCPSChat#AreUEmpowerED
@ucpschat A4: There has to be a mix and that mix likely depends on st needs. There's no one right answer. Digital res are only as good as their content, relevance, and integration. #UCPSChat
.@ucpschat Q4: it depends! EmpowerED means differentiate based on sts needs. Disciplinary Literacy means sts can have the best of both worlds with them in mind. #UCPSChat#AreUEmpowerED
A4: I agree with @mrs_kmontgomery 50/50 would be awesome but there is nothing like finding a reading spot and getting lost in a book and sts. need to experience that there are all types of text and need to be exposed to them. #UCPSChat
A4: I would say 60 print 40 digital, kids spend a lot of time in front of a screen and it's nice to be able to find a nice, quiet, cozy spot to relax with a book in hand an escape into the world that you are reading about even though tech is the future. #UCPSChat
A4: We need to begin incorporating digital activities in 2nd grade to build confidence in their abilities for the upper grades. The sooner the better. I'd love to see a 75/25 ratio.#UCPSChat
I like 70% to 30% digital to print media. As an arts teacher I know that it is important to have written music available, but I can also appreciate te ongoing digitalisation of media and cn teach my students of music into the future with a way music itself is evolving. #ucpschat
A4: 60/40. I love that my students can still “check out” a real book from our classroom library and read, but I also love when they are able to access online resources and open their learning to the world around them. #UCPSChat
Tonight’s #UCPSChat was very informative. Thank you to all @ucpschat participants! I enjoyed Q4 the most! So many intriguing perspectives!!! Goodnight 😊
I'm wondering what the students would say about the print/tech ratio. Would it match what we said or be vastly different? #ucpschat@ucpschat@AGHoulihan
