Roman from Ontario, Canada. HS Teacher/Student Success Leader/Agent of Transformation. Great to join in for #teachpos tonight.
My teaching style: fun! And Whatever the kids need.
Hello #teachpos peeps! Glad to drop in here tonight! I'm Eryka, teach ESL in HS. Interested in getting Ss involved in the community and experimenting w entrepreneurship. My word is CONNECT.
A1 As educators, it is important to stop, reflect and see what is and isn’t working when supporting learning. We need to always question if interventions are the most beneficial for students. Don’t keep things for sake of tradition or ease. Reflect with colleagues. #teachpos
A1: Reflecting is everything if you want to continually improve. Without it your destined to keep doing the same thing over and over again, probably expecting different results...
#Teachpos
A1 If you are a teacher that doesn't reflect, you are not growing. Reflection helps us to see opportunities for growth, change, and becoming the best that we can. #teachpos
A1: Reflecting activates cognitive thinking. We implicitly have most of the answers we need to our questions, but don't even really know what we're looking for unless we reflect on it. Tremendously valuable! #teachpos
A1: Reflecting refines my teaching into more of what it needs to be so I can reach my students most effectively. It gives me time to step back and think about what I'm doing, why I'm doing it, and what I need to continue/improve/stop doing. #teachpos
A1: It is always important to reflect on what you do. This allows you to take a step back to see what worked well, what needs improvement. We can all get better tomorrow than we are today. We must think this way to be the best we can be for the kids. #teachpos
A1~helps us to refine instructional practices that share the teaching&learning with all stakeholders... helps us be accountable to all involved, reflection helps solidify the fact that teaching & learning is a team sport #Teachpos
#teachpos - We ask our Ss to be reflective learners, so we should hold ourselves to the same standard. We should be modeling for our Ss being our best selves, regardless of roadblocks. Ss can tell when they have a reflective teacher, and they hold themselves to the same standard.
A1 Self Reflection is the only way to be aware of how your teaching, it is essential to self improvement. Without Reflection you are teaching blind #teachpos
A1: Reflecting gives me the space to think deeply and carefully about my practice and attempt to differentiate what I want to work and what I think works from what actually does. #Teachpos

A1 reflection is a def key to Ss success. We must consider how the work we do impacts those around us and honest reflection helps us grow, improve, and change for the best #teachpos
A1: “By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.” – Confucius #teachpos
We should be modeling and explaining our reflections! The act of reflecting is metacognition at its finest! Thinking about our thinking and actions and processing what we will change or why something was effective! #teachpos
A2 I start the year with a reflection think sheet to get them used to the process. Then...it becomes culture of the class. It is reinforced by my questions and student reflective writing. #teachpos
A2: I always make it a point to include student reflection in nearly everything I do with Ss. It is critical for Ts and just as much so for Ss.
#Teachpos
Popping over from #ECSchat. I am the survey master. Students reflect verbally and in writing, sometimes anonymously, sometimes not. I constantly ask them for feedback and on the last day of school, I give back the first survey they ever did. #teachpos
#teachpos - A2 - This is something that I need to be better about. Next year I plan on using @seesaw to create a digital portfolio and have them reflect on tests/quizzes/projects through voice recording and share it with their parents.

A2: When I had my own classroom, I had students reflect by writing and by conversing with their peers, parents, or with me. Important to have students think and reflect on what they do on a regular basis #teachpos
A2: Regularly ask Ss to tell me what is working for them and not working. Also try to make time to chat w my Ss 1:1 to go over how things are going. Starting a program this fall to pair Ss w Ts to provide better follow up. Would like to do more S reflections this year. #teachpos

A1: When we reflect we are able to identify what went well or did not and why. It allows us to make readjustments as needed and be better for ourselves and our students. Reflection makes us more effective! #teachPOS
A2~throughout the day the Ss are asked to write/verbalize/role play “glows” & “ grows” about both their social & academic skills they’ve modeled during our day #teachpos
A2 I try to get my students to reflect daily and regularly. It is such an important practice and skill. This year I want my students to add vlogs as part of their learning. Communication and reflection are key. #teachpos
Agree sometimes people become focused only on what didn’t got well when we reflect! Don’t forget to reflect upon what went well and why it went well! #teachpos
A2: I have Ss reflect on running records, verbalizations, written responses, and such. If we are responding orally or in written format, then we are reflecting. My Ss will tell each other- have you reflected on that? #teachPOS
A1) reflection allows us to improve, correct mistakes and also acknowledge what went well d what worked. We can make adjustments for the future by reflecting. #teachpos
A2: My students reflect on their learning through turn and talk with partners, placing post-its on anchor charts, and talking through it with me during individual/small group conferring times. #teachpos
A2 #Teachpos In my role the last few years as a professional learning specialist, my "students" were adult learners-I used reflection to close out a PD session...for example, "Letter to Self"
A2: I have Ss do midquarter check-ins (I am a special educator), and end of quarter reflections. I don't think I do this is often as I should! #Teachpos
A3 I have learned that there is a secret recipe to being successful. Passion+ caring+ relationships+ Positive PD + Mindfulness + Great PLN = A rewarding career and life. #teachpos
Can you remind me what grades you teach? How are you planning on getting your Ss past the judgement of others? I have tried to have my Ss blog and vlog last year and sorry to say it wasn't so much. Still trying again this year though! #teachpos
A3: Most important thing...every decision and every action is chosen with the students in mind. Nothing I do is about me...all about the kids. #teachpos
A3: The most important thing that I've learned during my career is to start with relationships. Ss, Ts, Admins, staff... it doesn't matter, relationships are where it (trust, belief, greatness, etc.) begins.
#Teachpos
#teachpos - A3 - Loaded question! I would say, learning to not take it personally and have a level of emotional stability in the classroom. Ss want to get a rise out of you, stay in control and BE POSITIVE!
A3 It is all about relationships. If you focus on building authentic and caring relationships, you will build trust, engagement and fun. More importantly, you will know your students and be able to better support them as people and learners. The heart comes first. #teachpos
A3: I've learned that if you wouldn't say it in front of parents or on TV, you shouldn't say it to kids. In other words, I've learned to be KIND with my words. #teachPOS
A1: Reflecting on our teaching helps us identify what went well and what could improve the next to better our Ss understanding! Also could help Ts decide if there needs to be a reteach. #Teachpos
A3: That teaching is truly a passion and not a job. Even on my most difficult days, there’s always been a smile or “aha” moment that makes every struggle worth the work. I don’t regret it for a single moment. #teachPOS
A3 Meet people where they are, both Ts and Ss! Everyone wants to be their very best but everyone has a different level of comfort, entry point , and background! Meet others where they are and move forward together! #teachpos#champforkids
A3: So many things. This is year 20 for me. I learned to truly find #joy in the journey-to make sure I always stop and see all the beauty in front of me. #teachpos
A3: the most important thing that I have learned is that every day is a fresh start. In fact, every period, hour or minute or interaction with students and colleagues alike can be a fresh start 💫 #teachpos
A3 I have learned a few things: relax, be happy, encourage, keep your sense of humour, don't take yourself to seriously, be kind and patient 😀 #teachpos
That is awesome! Would love to connect and discuss potential projects we could work on! I teach HS ESL and I'm always looking for ways to get my Ss to "step out" of the classroom either in reality or virtually! #teachpos
A2: One way I have students reflect on their learning is by "exit slips" and ask questions where they rate their understanding, attentiveness, but my teaching as well. #Teachpos
Bonus Q: As a tech integrator, I love the fact that rarely is one day ever the same. Tech and my job change constantly. I always get to explore.
#Teachpos
Absolutely! Although I think I will always try to make everyone happy nonetheless. I don't know if that makes me stubborn, compassionate or what, but it's part of who I am! #teachpos
