Good Evening! Tonight's questions are based on Trail Magic on the Appalachian Trail. Introduce yourselves while I fill you in a little! And if you've ever hiked the AT, let us know! #scitlap
My name is Kristin and I'm grateful to be steering the ship tonight. I have never hiked on the AT, but I am in awe of anyone who has! I have however, had the pleasure of giving out some Trail Magic! #scitlap
Hey #scitlap - not sure who's hosting, but I'm not going to make it tonight. Just finished up a crazy #122edchat, and I've got a killer migraine. Wednesdays are tough. Gotta tap out for this one. Love you guys!
Last summer my family and I joined my husband's trail running group in CT to meet up and give Trail Magic to thru-hikers on the AT! Now let's get to some questions.... #scitlap
A1 This year, with new curriculym, I think they might call me Fly-By-The-Seat-of-Her-Pants. Actually I think I that's how only I feel on the inside. They'd call me Fun Science Teacher! #scitlap
Hi Everyone from fogged in Central Valley CA. I mainly teach 7th grade NGSS Integrated Sci at NAS Lemoore. I am fortunate to live very close to Yosemite & Sequoia Nat'l Parks. Never hiked on East Coast
A1 The Messy & Loud One. My room has every space filled with used lab materials, materials for upcoming units, STEAM & game Night stuff. Ss often moving stuff this year to make space for new Ss. I'm not coaching this year so sometimes I find myself using my coaching volume.
A3: I think I would like to see a cart full of @Sphero or other robots we could program. Not sure how I would add them to my curriculum but I would love to find out! #scitlap
Finishing stuff....ugh, the death of all of us. I did hear a great tip from #DitchSummit Instead of giving Ss a certain amount of time, find a sunset time-lapse and they have till the sun goes down. #scitlap
A3 all my missing equip that others borrow and don't return. All lab materials put away neatly. Locks πfor my https://t.co/n3Wo06Iz6Y boxes. π #scitlap
A4: Most definitely.
Being a mom, first and foremost. Working with her and seeing her grow is my greatest joy!
I also love to read PD books/blogs and to write. #scitlap
A4 I love a snow day, but it does make it hard to be consistent. We have a February Break, with that in sight, we can all make it through. Vacations make for good wrap-up points. #scitlap
A4. SexEd is a fun unit. As soak it all in & appreciate the info, chemistry units keep them excited & busy and big field trip to UC Berkeley in March. I also ordered lots of special chocolate to help my team keep going on tough days. #scitlap
A5 I send a cute email to Ss with appropriate bitmoji (except that one time π€£), send parents a text giving kids kudos, tweet something from class acct. I used to give them morning donuts. Now with new rules just an awesome party 2x a year. #scitlap
Badges, items for our game, patriot bucks to purchase the few items (virtual) for sale or to pay fines. They have really bought into the storyline I have in place. #scitlap
I guess if 80% or more students complete you don't have to make the day up. And they get 7 days to do it. This is in a friends district. Definitely interesting? #scitlap

Snow days not an issue but we schools days with limitations: yellow/orange/red air days (degrees of staying in sometimes all day), delayed start due to fog, & sometimes high wind. Luckily we can push work out via Showbie, Team website akers7 or via student Gmail. #scitlap
Considering I don't get 80% completion of HW on a regular day I don't think it is an option for me. That and how cruel! Let the kids play in the snow! #scitlap

A7 For some kids the journey is easy. They are prepared, they have support, they thrive. Others might only have our daily class trail magic to keep them going, so I guess making sure they have those important moments is key. #scitlap
A7 The journey is never over. #lifelonglearning#curiosity There is always another door to open, another path to follow, another book to read, another adventure to start #sciTLAP
A7: I think for big projects it is important to have Ss examples from previous years. It shows that others pushed through and made it even if it isnβt exactly what the project is. #scitlap
The end is in sight for this chat. If you were a northbound hiker on the AT, the sight of Mt. Katahdin in Maine would be your final destination. (side note: I did camp and whitewater raft by this mountain). Last question is on it's way. #scitlap
A7 let students have some input on lab ideas or share a cool YouTube video, change up a routine if you or kids burned out, make time for 10 second check-in for all Ss and issue some praise. Make connections. #scitlap
A8 Changing things up goes a long way with Ss. Even rearranging the room can get Ss excited. Doing something special for someone unexpectedly goes a long way too. #scitlap
Thank you #scitlap
Every Wednesday night a little Pirate Magic shows up in my Twitter feed. I am so in awe of all that you do and your generosity in sharing. Thank you, thank you!
A8 as a union leader we union host picnic & movie socials and luncheons for members, I also help plan school wide potlucks with selfies booth set up. Everyone gets out & eats together. Admin often hosting breakfast or lunch. Our union also does luminaries at Relay 4 Life #scitlap
