A1) Coaches learn with & from Ss & know just the right tools, tips & tricks to motivate a Ss to reach goals--focus on individual
As I prepared for tonight's chat, I ran across this blog post worth sharing about coaches/teachers: https://t.co/Vr0gMdPAwr
A1 a coach is an encourager and gives feedback for improvement
A1 Coaching is being right alongside kids, learning with them and cheering them on.
A1 I see more similarities than differences. Working together to get to the destination, learning with each other.
A1 I consider the best teachers as facilitators. When they are also firm, fair, & fascinating, it's an unbeatable combo 4 kids!
Coaches give them a target/goal, provide opty to see the skill, then practice, practice practice...and build on it.
"good" teachers know when to directly teach and when to step back and facilitate or coach Ss led discussions
Yes! I love the phrase "alongside kids" so important to see what they are doing; write w/them; read w/them https://t.co/B6cYoEykLh
A1 Coaching is being right alongside kids, learning with them and cheering them on.
practice practice practice is key and critical to learning for all of us
Practice is so important as we build skills! https://t.co/IYBrEx119M
Coaches give them a target/goal, provide opty to see the skill, then practice, practice practice...and build on it.
I find my biggest hurdle is getting them to practice practice practice...getting them past the once-n-done thinking
Amazing alliteration! Love it: "firm, fair & fascinating!" https://t.co/4luPili6sT
A1 I consider the best teachers as facilitators. When they are also firm, fair, & fascinating, it's an unbeatable combo 4 kids!
Q2 is coming up in one minute!
Yes, me too. How to build in the reflection, set goals, keep working to improve.
We're using brain-based activities to help students understand the importance of practice to build the pathway to learn
A1) consider: Coaches have luxury of choosing to play only the best in order to win. How does this relate to the classroom?
I coach youth sports. The principles are very similar.
Q2: What tech, tips or tricks do you use to help you "COACH" your students toward their goals? https://t.co/U64Qd1gcHe
A2) I use Google Docs & Google Classroom so I can comment & coach while Ss work; real-time feedback helps Ss tweak work & improve
of thingshttp://www.myassignmenthelp.net/blog/internet-of-things/
A1 Coaching also automatically connotes someone who is on your side, cheering you on, & giving the feedback you need.
A2: Google Sheets, I use it as a data notebook they write their goals and assessment results and I can comment and provide feedback
encourage and inspire greatness out of the whole team - everyone has a role and we help them reach what they think poss
A2 I train tech ninjas to help other kids in class with tech issues, hold mini lessons on new apps, etc. Empowers kids.
I like when Ss share their thinking for all to see. I use https://t.co/KncEeWO1Nc for research, brainstorming, exit tickets, etc
A1: Coaches are teachers who who provide, expertise, advice, and encouragement to help players grow and succeed. chat
I like this idea! I haven't done that before. Need to explore this. Thanks for sharing this idea.
Love the title of "ninja's" I have a "tech team" but I need to spruce up their name!
A2 I always personally invite & acknowledge Ss to participate in class discussions. Inclusion is empowering! Kids open up & share.
Empowerment is so key to success! Great strategy!
Love this! Builds on the opportunities for student led classrooms.
A2: Help Ss grow tech toolbelt enabling them to choose the right tool at the right time to learn & solve problems. chat
Amazing ideas! Question 3 coming in one minute!
A2. I always worry that I'm giving them too much tech, too much *shiny*, and not enough grit, grime, & gumption. Balance is hard.
I think personal invitations are strong to develop classroom communities! https://t.co/uPAZEx5WNM
A2 I always personally invite & acknowledge Ss to participate in class discussions. Inclusion is empowering! Kids open up & share.
A3) My favorite tech tools include , , , , ; tips: use Choice boards; tricks: games!
A3: Blogging, Quizziz, Kahoot. I have been experimenting with powtoon tonight, wow!
Ditch that Textbook author says tech is the tool...I will tweet image on this idea as well
I like simulations. Gets them up & moving; considering multiple POVs; debating, reflecting.
https://t.co/YlPFhjrblf
A3 One of the best things we do is Many skills to be learned and easy to cover learning outcomes with engaged learning.
love for review games and for everything! Also
A3 We use schoology for agendas, discussions, collab. S's also love participating in mystery skypes.
A3 Student self-expression is crucial. But they need skills & knowledge to back up their insights & creativity.
I want to look into choice boards this summer.
/ became super imp in my rm last year. TREMENDOUS optys to connect culturally & w/field experts
Love all of these...I also love . is amazing! Kids use it for genius hour! https://t.co/eUdOpnYZpI
A3: Blogging, Quizziz, Kahoot. I have been experimenting with powtoon tonight, wow!

Lots of great thinking happening! Question 4 coming up in one minute!

My class was TV last year through . Coolest exp ever!
A3: Engaged Ss know a variety of tools and have choice to use what will work for each situation. Loving Plickers & Padlet chat
Q4: What tech, tips or tricks do you use that helps to involve ALL Ss including quiet, restless & others? https://t.co/y6WAQO7jg4
- Skype definitely let me connect more globally. Those were memorable days.
Are any of you planning to participate in Global Read Aloud?
And this year we will get them on twitter I'm scheduling your idea for twitter chat in a few weeks -- talk how to use
A4) Providing Ss time to add ideas to digital/collaborative boards helps to involve all Ss; have Ss turn & talk so all have a voice
We hit 5 continents and - I think - 6 or 8 states.
Now that I heard of it I absolutely am in...
What is global read aloud?
Do you use choice boards? Welcome!
Awesome. Would like to use with our S's to give them a chance to develop pln during school day.
My students participated in twitter chats last year. They were rock stars! It was natural to them.
A4 If you want all kids involved & sharing, give them space to get acclimated & to trust. Keep asking & inviting & NEVER GIVE UP.
Here's the link. Select one of the books, and read according to calendar; connect w/other classrooms
A reading project where thousands of students are reading the same book and making connections. https://t.co/LPVXfgaKCK
Agree! I will private message you ideas for the chat and we can figure this out and launch in fall
We have a class acct. set up that they can all use.
yes! Participated last year! Reading for
A4: Experiences should be designed to manage S learning needs, tech supports Ss within the experience to enhance learning chat
- That is impressive! what types of activities did you do beside Mystery Skype?
I did it last year and had a blast with it! We read Fish in a Tree last year; doing Pax this year!
You all inspire me! Question 5 coming up in a minute!
I didn't because our parents are used to us being on social media.
Creating that safe place to try and fail & building trust is too often glossed over, and it's time so well invested.
thinking of participating. What title are you planning for? chat
Me too! Reading Pax Let's connect our classes Wendy!
Met with our global read aloud partner class, mystery skype.
Our media spec. sends out a form that tells us which S's r not to allowed. etc.
- In a way. They voted each quarter on which units they wanted to do.
A5) I use Google Slides where each Ss or teams can contribute to a slide & collaborate on ideas; Have Ss create review
I think Pax. Let me know if you want to make connections.
Lucky me! We don't have any.
We met a water eng in Uganda, toured London w/our tech dir, talked art in Chile, even a sci in Northpole
A5 Google drive is grt for writing collab. Twitter, schoology discussions, skype.
When they realize it's not from Ss personal account, but a class account, they're ok w/ it
A5: is wonderful for collecting research and sharing "boards" for research projects
A5 Love collaboration thru inquiry. Ss create evidence-based & inference-based Qs together, then answer their own & others' Qs.
Have not usesd much, but have been interested in doing so. Thanks for reminding me to check it out!
We had it set up with other 6th grade clasrms.
