A2: POWER -Thinking in terms of locus of control (for all you 5D+-ers). This is difficult, scary, & one of the more challenging things for teachers, especially if you've held that control/power for so long. PLUS, that delicate balance can be tough.

A2: Jon, one of the things I was talking about yesterday with people is that teaching with a high level of rigor---open-ended questions, lots of conversation---is really a lot more FUN!!
#MEMSPAchat#Path2Serendipity

A2: The teachers I work with are amazing, so they do their best to meet all of Glasser's basic needs for all of our Ss, but the one I feel is the hardest for some is power. They don't realize the power they actually have. #memspachat#Path2Serendipity
I'd like to believe I face them head on!! I'm lucky as well, b/c if I do slip off that track and into a "complaint" mode, I'm surrounded by people who talk through the frustration and get me back on track! #MEMSPAchat#Path2Serendipity

A2: A teacher our TEAM hired at previous district said this and it is great plan of action. "Have a person, vent to them when you need to, then do the right thing." Jon Gordon tells us it's okay to have negative thoughts but to feed the positive dog in the end. #memspachat

A3: This is something I struggle with, as recently as this week. I use a lot of self-talk and the support of those around me. I know there will be bumps in the road, but I can't let them stop my journey. #memspachat
A3: I agree with my friend @JulieMytych. Always good to talk things through with a trusted colleague to get different ideas & perspectives to find solutions! #MEMSPAchat#Path2Serendipity
A3 Sometimes I must take 24 to 48 hours before I respond to move from frustration to action. My response needs to be with my frontal lobe and NOT my amygdala. #memspachat

A3: By reflecting and digging deep enough to find the root cause of the frustration. By staying the course and being as patient as possible. If the process is good, we must trust in it. #MEMSPAchat
A4: When I accept that I control ME, I have to also accept that I cannot blame others for my behavior. No one "makes me mad", getting mad is a choice. That is not easy to accept. #MEMSPAchat#Path2Serendipity
A4: Because I can't control other's responses/actions, there are times when I simply sound like a broken record. Having the knowledge that I can control my own actions goes back to taking a minute when I feel that things are out of control. #MEMSPAchat
A4: Life is not training camp because we're already in the big leagues. Personal and professional growth have to be the center of your life, otherwise, you're just taking up space. #memspachat
A4: I'm currently completed addicted to the work of @BreneBrown and Braving the Wilderness. Strong back, Soft front. Wild Heart #truebelonging#MEMSPAchat
A4: this is one of my favorite quotes, we can only change our own behavior but we can change so much in a teacher or child’s environment to help support them #Path2Serendipity#MEMSPAchat
Helping others move out of that victim mentality is so important. Once ppl understand the power they have, progress can be made. #MEMSPAchat#Path2Serendipity
A4: To me it’s a little more scary than liberating. Realizing all the things that you cannot control and how they affect student achievement is daunting. Trying to affect all the peoples mindsets it’s a difficult task #MEMSPAchat#Path2Serendipity.

A4) "Control the controllables" has been my mantra for a while. Owning this has increased my focus on the solutions that I can actually control. #MEMSPAchat

A6: I love @SirKenRobinson The Element, where passion and aptitude meet! We need to find our own passions and then help others find theirs! #MEMSPAchat
Trust and sincerity! If your staff believes you care for them, really care, they will care for you and in turn be more likely to give you their best! I believe same is true for Ss and Ts. Ss will work harder for someone they believes truly cares for them! #MEMSPAchat

A6: Our high school has made this an integral part of their philosophy. Reaching out to students who have few or no relationships with teachers by setting up clubs that bring in kids who aren't involved in extracurricular activities & often fly under the radar. #memspachat
A6: I'm going to flip the script a bit and note that it is important to understand and accept that our passions/subject area may not be our students' passion. As adults we must accept an honor that, but continue to find ways to connect w/ and motivate them. #memspachat
Watching how the people I work with daily show up and keep pushing to do what's right for kids is so inspiring. I consider myself the lucky one. #MEMSPAchat
