I ❤️❤️❤️ #ksedchat! But I am currently sick and trying to save my energy for tomorrow. I’d rather go to school than make sub plans, amen? Anywho I’ll check back later and see what I missed! Thanks for thinking of me!
A1: #ksedchat My colleague next door has the best up to date fun and fancy classroom activities. I love her style, her swag, and her ability to not reinvent the wheel every year, but stay relevant, try new things, and keep what works well!
A1) Last school year I shared an article and other matter on @pgliljedahl’s #ThinkingClassroom with a colleague. Come to find out she tried some of the article’s recommendations this year. Twenty years of teaching one way, and she went for it! So brave and so awesome! #ksedchat
One of my colleagues is completing a global read aloud with her students. They are reading Refugee and the kids love it! I love that she is able to connect our students with students across the country. #ksedchat#tlap
A2: Students love choice. This seems so simple but anytime I give students choice - they almost immediately take ownership over their learning and that rocks! #tlap#ksedchat
A2: I have been working to improve independent reading for the past few years. I am still so proud that each hour in my class starts with 10 minutes of reading. It's the most important thing we do each day. If kids aren't reading at school, they aren't reading. #ksedchat#ecet2ks
A2: As a first year STEM teacher and Master's student, I am getting ready to introduce coding and robotics. I plan to have three different robots in my classroom as well as online coding activities to keep students engaged at all times! #ksedchat

A2: As a 3rd grade teacher I think it is SO important to get kids excited to read. By the end of the year it is my hope that ALL of my kids will CHOOSE to read. I am proud of the results that I have had. #ksedchat#ecet2ks
I don’t really have a classroom but I am most proud of the teacher leaders in our district. They are vulnerable, trust openly, and always ready to make things better. #ksedchat#Bexceptional

Oh, #ksedchat looks so awesome tonight! I’m sorry to miss it, but I’m gonna head to bed early to fight this cold off so I can be ready to go to @ECET2KS this weekend!
A2: I feel like I'm doing a better job teaching growth mindset and how to embrace mistakes. The biggest piece of this is embracing and owning my own mistakes in front of my kids! #ksedchat#ecet2ks
A2: I am proud of the way that I have set high standards with my #edtech integration and roll out of #gamifcation! It has been a bumpy road, but with filled with much merit, failure, and progress along the way! #ecet2ks#ksedchat

#ksedchat a2
I'm at a new building and I'm really proud of how a new staff has come together, been honest and open to make an awesome place for learning to happen. It's been very stressful for all but everybody is incredibly positive!
A2: All Science and SS tests are gone. Complete Unit Projects and Presentations to show what they know! Last year, we started with SS. This year, we added Science! No more paper-pencil tests! #🛑drillandkill #Ecet2ks#ksedchat#handsonmindson

Q3: Kansas is redesigning schools - and we know that many of your schools are doing great things! What are some great things happening in your own school? #ecet2ks#ksedchat
A2 personally am proud to implement an inquiry for each unit of study. Have seen the growth of the ss and their ability to start asking their own actionable questions. #ksedchat
A2: Using cooking shows as inspiration for engaging activities in class... Cutthroat History and Cooking Up a Response. Love making my kids be creative with "ingredients" and have to handle working in a team under pressure! So fun! #ksedchat
Good for you! That is a brave step @JennyStoops and it is hard! For too long we've had the image of teacher as expert. We need to model teacher as learning - that means mistakes! #ksedchat
In reply to
@IncredibleDeeds, @JennyStoops, @JennyStoops
A2) Unlited attempts to prove mastery of content. I’m still figuring out the best way to make that happen. It’s an expression of respect and trust to tell them that if they promise to try, then I promise to respect that effort with time and feedback. #ksedchat
I feel that this is a very important skill for Ss to learn! Being able to use social media effectlively and being kind to one another while on it. #ksedchat
A2 no classroom for me but I am really looking back on how my relationships have developed with Ts in our district. So fun to know many so well and be able to have fun no matter what building I am at. #ksedchat
A2: Simple idea but I wanted students talking to one another more. Instead of class presentations, we did sit down talks over WWI topics of their choice. Eacher person got to present multiple time w/ time for ques. Really productive. #ksedchat
A3: I love the amount of elective options our students have a chance to take at the MIDDLE SCHOOL level: Choir, Band, FACS, Ag, STEAM, Tech Ed, Broadcasting, Art, and more. My high school didn't even have these options! #KSEDCHAT
A3: I am proud that our school has a small food bank/blessings box for our students so that they can take an item as they need it. To teach the whole child, we have to read the whole child. #ksedchat#ecet2ks
A3: once a month, my school commits to health by having a “Wellness Wednesday” activity. We also have the whole school switch rooms and we have a “Dragon Club” time for the kids to enjoy being kids. #ksedchat#ecet2ks#dhefamily

Hello, #ksedchat! Greg Froese, ELA T from Buhler HS #313teach. Sorry to jump in so late. Just finished celebrating my youngest child's 11th birthday this evening.
A3: I really love that my school puts an emphasis on the whole student. Social and emotional learning is important to our staff and I take pride in where I work because of that! #ksedchat#tlap
A3 - Andover is a Gemini II. One of the best things we do is build teacher leaders. We have a teacher academy of complete edu-rockstars, and we're guiding them to explore edreform. It's a blast to see them innovate and shine. They are ready to redesign! #ksedchat
A3 I think my school has done an awesome job of promoting the work that out ss have done. Public display, social media, talking and recognizing ss achievements and learning. @ST_MS10#ksedchat
A3: Our principal records daily announcement videos; great way to share info & I think it’s important the kids get daily “face time” with him #ksedchat

#ecet2ks#ksedchat
A3: We do a "Mystery Book" every week on the announcements. One clue is read aloud each day and the class that guesses the book first earns a copy of it for their classroom library. It's so fun and a great way to expand their options for reading. #ksedchat#ecet2ks
A3: weekly staff shoutouts! Team vs team schoolwide competition! Themed pep assemblies! Daily emotional check in form for every kid! Music in the cafeteria on Friday! All-school interest based clubs once a week during homeroom! #ksedchat
A2: starting our Christmas tree project. Working on formulas and proportions. So far each kiddo has found a unique set of trees, no duplicates #ksedchat
A3) It’s not some big public thing, but every school should have a principal that looks you in the eyes and says, “I trust you and your vision. We support you. Just keep everyone informed.” Mine do that. AMAZING what you’ll do to improve your room with that freedom. #ksedchat
A3: We have tickets for certain life skills we like to see the Ss exhibit. This month we are focusing on perseverance. Ts recognize Ss w/ a ticket, they put it on a bingo board in the library & when we get 10 in a row they get a prize #ksedchat
We use this tape - https://t.co/bbFmewQq2E and challenge students to find a place on the wall to create a visual of any concept we're covering class - i.e. character choices, significant change in history, etc. So fun! #ksedchat
A3: We had some really great conversations about redesign at our PD day today! I can't wait to dive in deeper and see what this will bring to Frontenac kids! #ksedchat
A3: Campus High School has a student-run bank and student-run
coffee shop supervised by @CoachZKliewer. We also have AVID, Link Crew, and one of two schools in Wichita to offer IBDP. #ksedchat
Teacher leaders will pave the way for #ksredesign! There is no program or textbook that can do what a group of committed, collaborative teachers can do! #ksedchat#ecet2ks
A3 - Andover is a Gemini II. One of the best things we do is build teacher leaders. We have a teacher academy of complete edu-rockstars, and we're guiding them to explore edreform. It's a blast to see them innovate and shine. They are ready to redesign! #ksedchat

Q3: Kansas is redesigning schools - and we know that many of your schools are doing great things! What are some great things happening in your own school? #ecet2ks#ksedchat
A3 Buhler is redesigning somewhat on our own, outside of the Gemini 2 process but with some support. Each school’s has a TEACHER pilot co-pilot that understand the culture of their building and the pace they are ready for. Experiments have started with Trauma responsive #ksedchat
A3: I'm just really excited about the direction our ELA curriculum is going at Buhler HS. Our team is continually looking to improve/expand in all areas, especially our Passion Pursuits class. #ksedchat
A3: I am proud of how our building is trying to improve in the area of parent engagement. Each grade level is being very intentional to get parents more involved. (Books & breakfast, Nat'l Park projects, etc.) #ksedchat
A3: Cheney schools developed our core values years ago. Everyone participated and had input. Cardinal PRIDE was born. (Perseverance, Integrity, Respect, Dependability, & Empathy). Love how my 1st grader knows and uses the words consistently! #ksedchat
A3: Our school has begun something called Pride families where each teacher has a multi age "Family" K-5. Every year our family stays the same. We lose our 5th graders but gain new Ks. #buildingrelationships#maizeusd266#ksedchat
Q3: Kansas is redesigning schools - and we know that many of your schools are doing great things! What are some great things happening in your own school? #ecet2ks#ksedchat
A4: I begin every one of my classes with a joke of the day. The kids love it and it's a light hearted way to start class and grab their attention. #tlap#ksedchat
I try to do 5 a week. Even if it’s the same people I’m glad I get to stop and thank people that I appreciate! Sometimes teachers are too busy to say “hey thanks!” to their best supporters #Ksedchat
A3: we have also started sending postcards home to students thanking them for their attitude, effort, etc. One girl came back to class and told me she cried when she got my note. Tugs at my heartstrings #ksedchat
We use this tape - https://t.co/bbFmewQq2E and challenge students to find a place on the wall to create a visual of any concept we're covering class - i.e. character choices, significant change in history, etc. So fun! #ksedchat
A3. Our staff is working hard to fill in gaps outside of the classroom: reaching out to community & invoking them, celebrating education week, student PD day, being reflective of what we’ve done & where we want to go #ksedchat
A4: @astambaugh8 brought in senior citizens from a local nursing home to play games with her seminar students. The kids loved it and I can see this starting even more local partnerships. #ksedchat
A4: Each year, we do a school-wide citizenship day. This will be our 8th year - over 600 people helping others. Next semester I am also hoping to partner my Passion Pursuits class with a local non-profit in town called Grand Staff Ministries Boutique. #ksedchat#ecet2ks
A4 As a school we also have a relationship with the local fire department, where they come eat lunch with star students, and each month different grade levels nominate student leaders to get a t-shirt #ksedchat
A4: This is an easy question. I do this through PBL. One of its elements is public product. It allows me to have students work with people outside of the school to develop understanding. #ksedchat
A4: This year we have been encouraged to incorporate a community activity into our field trips (i.e. dropping by a nursing home to read). I would love any other ideas you may have for this! #ksedchat#ecet2ks
A4: We have a wide array of CTE pathways for students to investigate and explore. With each advisory group we have community members & businesses offering ideas, advice & opportunities for our students. Great discussions and many members end up visiting w/ classes. #ksedchat.
A3: This year we started our FIRST EVER FAMILY STEM NIGHT! It was AMAZING! We had such an OVERWHELMING turnout from our families - we were ecstatic to plan one again for next year!!
My station was Bone Bridge Engineering - it was a Skele-TON of fun! ☠️😉 #Ksedchat

It really has been a game changer for innovation. So proud of them all - we have around 40 participants across the district who have go through the program #ksedchat
A4 connected to our community is a goal for our KESA process for now we have outreach programs like donuts with dad, a chili cook off, MS101 for parents #ksedchat
#ksedchat A2. One thing new in our room this year is out daily power up at the of our morning meeting. We hold hands and shake some love around the circle, then we chant our Power Up!
This isn’t me, but another shout out—our FCCLA teacher just brought in 12 business leaders from the community last wk so her students could practice the interviewing process. We’re really working this yr on providing authentic experiences for kids. #ksedchat
A4: I don’t think I’m doing a great job connecting with the community in my classroom🤔Out school is about to have a STEM night, and we also have lots of families come out for sporting events #ksedchat
A4: Through the use of Family Nights, our school is looking to create more opportunities along side our PTO to bring students, families, & community TO our schools! STEM Nights, Nerf Wars, Homecoming Events, etc!! I am BLESSED by a community that gets involved! #Ksedchat

A5: Technology needs to be relevant and purposeful. I love using google forms to create "breakout rooms" for my students. They love this! Sometimes you just have to be creative. #tlap#ksedchat
A4: We are pulling in extended family volunteers for classroom support. We also have a great partnership with a local assisted living group. We are planning on our community caroling day too! #ecet2ks#ksedchat
This year I set up each of my students with "sponsor." Students received an encouraging letter at the beginning of the year and I plan to have sponsors write a couple more notes throughout the year.
A4: In the works tomorrow...but hoping to connect our kids by creating the 7th volume of the Veteran Book of area Vets and their stories and creating needed infographics for the community! #ksedchat
A4: my 1st graders are learning about communities. This month, our field trip around the community (police station, fire station, library, historical museum, Chick-fil-A) to see how we all work together in a city. THEN my Ss will write thank you cards to give back. #ksedchat
A5: Pt. One - We sent seniors and juniors not taking the PSAT to the grade schools for two hours to serve as mentors. The kids loved it. All it took was a little organization and a couple of busses to get them there. Definitely doing that again. So many smiles. #ksedchat#ecet2ks
A5: In two schools I worked, we held a Wellness Fair for our students and families. We invited community services in to meet with our school community. #ksedchat

A5: @JasonKohls and I have had a friendly competition in our Creative Writing classes called Sonnet Throwdown. We have connected with other schools to help evaluate. Shout out to @androo88@AmandaBuethe among others for their help. #ksedchat
A4) My school has been developing its CTE programs, which entails lots of community cross-over. The new auto teacher has started a fabulous car show. I’ve not really done anything on that front, because I can only stay awake for 20 hours a day... #ksedchat
A5 We are looking at starting mystery skypes with different classrooms around the country and taking virtual field trips to places my Ss haven't been to. I've heard such great things about these experiences and I'm so excited to get started on these. #KSEDchat
A5. Our district is looking at creating service projects that connect all the grade level classes working together. I'm excited for the opportunities this will create for us to connect with other classes in our district. #ksedchat
A5: In my previous district, the third grades in two different buildings became pen pals. They then met at the end of the year for a picnic and kickball game. So fun to watch! #ksedchat#ecet2ks
A5: Pt. Two - I am hoping to partner my Fantasy/Gothic Fiction classes with @JenniferMFarr's class next semester for some literature circle work. #ksedchat#ecet2ks
A5 pt 2. Our #BHSCreativeWriting class connected with several schools from Ks and other states as part of our Sonnet Throwdown. @Greg_Froese & I are working on how we want to do that again this year. #ksedchat
Imagine how something like this might make it easier for these students as they transition to middle school! What a simple idea with a profound impact! #ksedchat#ecet2ks

A5: My 6th grade book club is creating a podcast where they talk about different books they have read throughout book club. They plan on sharing this with everyone to create more interest in reading...and it is the best! They rock. #ksedchat#tlap
A3. #ksedchat Our school is doing so many things that I want others to know. Becoming trauma-informed is at the heart of why I teach, so I love this! Graber houses has been an amazing thing too because it builds connections with Ts and kids throughout their elementary years.
Webcams are great ways to build interest. Just Google Webcam and the topic/location and you'll find some. San Diego Zoo has some fun ones https://t.co/F6x6eh8amB#ksedchat
Q4: Our classroom & school has six @TowerGarden full of fresh produce. 5th grade student ambassadors shared samples with parents at conferences with future plans to partner with our Culinary Arts dept at Olathe North #ksedchat

Going to need to duck out. Between birthday sugar crash and not exactly having the time change figured out, I gotta go play "defense" on my kids. Thanks to the @ECET2KS crew for a great chat!! #ksedchat
A5: I have been following OTHER Ts in Kansas - & asking my P for PD days to visit their rooms & see what they are doing EFFECTIVELY! @mrvesco was my first host & I brought back SO MUCH! The flip side - I’ve had OTHERS hear - & reach out to come to MY room now! #Ksedchat
A5) I admire so many hard working teachers and researchers. @KentWire and @CometGuidance are kind enough to welcome my request to visit - with FIVE colleagues - simply because we admire their standards based grading intitiarive. Just like that, Kansas ed improves. #ksedchat
Q6: We are teaching a generation of change-makers. It is important to foster a global connection with our students! How are you or your school connecting students to the world? #ksedchat#ecet2ks
You're guaranteed 300 miles distance between your classroom and your partner classroom. It's genius! Lesson ideas and everything ready to go. #ksedchat
A6: My Honors Freshman English classes are reading Animal Farm, to be followed by some inquiry-based research on oppression, genocide, and refugees. Not sure what that will look like, but we will be looking at how social media is now fueling modern genocide/oppression. #ksedchat
A4. #ksedchat Personally I don't have any great connections personally for my room. As a school we have "Graber Greats" which are former Graber students who work in the community and come to share their memories, inspiration and life with our Ss.
A6 Haven't done the best job #YET but am going to start some skypes and virtual field trips to expand my Ss vision of the world. Currently they see the world as the Wichita area, and maybe into areas they have been to. #KSEDchat
A6 #BHSela / #313teach's @AmberNeighbor has been connecting her Ss to authors in her #BHSMediaCrit classes. Nationally known authors are responding to her Ss with thoughtful and insightful responses. Ask her about it. #ksedchat
A6: Pt. Two: We will also be partnering with the 2018 NDTOY this week - she teaches a newcomer's class for immigrant and refugee students that publishes their stories, so my kids will serve as editors for them this week. I am so excited for them to have this experience. #ksedchat
@arobertson249@annkbrown and @AVarsolona find ways every day to inspire me! It feels so amazing being part of a team that constantly goes out of their way to make learning (and teaching) so much fun! #KSedchat
A6. We did a writing activity with another class and I plan to do more of the collaborative projects put out every year, they’re my favorite! I keep my eye open for opportunities to connect my students as much as possible. #ksedchat
A6: one of the tenets of IB is international mindedness. We attempt to achieve this by reading authors from around the world and works in translation while being careful of not falling into the #adichie "single story" narrative #ksedchat
A5. #ksedchat I know some classrooms in our building are connecting with classrooms of different ages in our district. This has been a powerful connection,
A6) Our performance groups @ AES perform and travel to several different colleges. We have arranged special visits with their Admissions /Music departments to share with our Ss what is required for them to be able to attend the respective college. ROAD TRIP!!! #ksedchat#ecet2ks
A6: I was introduced to the UN Global Goals this last year and I plan on incorporating their themes and lessons throughout the year. It is an amazing resource. #Ksedchat
A6 Cont - And our Global Collaborative Gingerbread STEM Community is taking registrations now. Ss create a "gingerbread" version of your town and Skype with another classroom. SO fun https://t.co/mucvYbpfuS#ksedchat
A6: Global Read Aloud #GRA18 has been a good platform for some! One of the teachers I support is partnered with a class from Canada and they are using @Flipgrid along with a postcard swap as they read a common book. https://t.co/h4BeYnbLRC#ksedchat
Thank you for a great chat tonight! Use Twitter and Voxer to keep sharing these great ideas with each other! Kansas teachers - you are awesome! #ksedchat#ecet2ks
A6: There’s still so much more to do (Power of Yet!) But for starters, I try to bring in guest speakers whenever possible, give Ss Twitter exploration time, & give opportunities for persuasive writings on Scholastic articles. I hope to incorporate mystery skype in soon! #Ksedchat
