Welcome to #edtechchat! Please introduce yourself and share from where you’re joining us! We’re excited to welcome @ClassTechTips as tonight’s moderator to discuss Tasks Before Apps: Designing Rigorous Learning in a Tech-Rich Classroom!
Hey there! I am an Early Childhood Education student @ConverseCollege excited to learn a little more about technology in the classroom! #following#edtechchat
Wow, these weeks are flying by. Another great #edtechchat on tap and I am glad to be here. 4th & 5th grade classroom teacher and other things from Maine.
Prerequisite to learn about technology is to follow & learn so much from @ClassTechTips Many of my technology & other pages have her links on them. My Tech pages https://t.co/rhtEBHuUf9 Thanks Monica #YouMatter a lot to all of us. #edtechchat
Hey #EdTechChat! I'm Matt, a software dev and part time volunteer Computer Science teacher! Always looking to learn from the pros how better to mix my edu and my tech :)
A1: I’m not in the classroom, but I encourage teachers to use #edtech meaningfully as often as is applicable. As a principal I model usage of Microsoft 365 tools as much as I can...but secretly yearn for Google! #edtechchat
I use programs such as Kahoot to engage students with math lessons in a fun way. It provides students with multiple choice questions and also encorperates friendly competition #edtechchat
A. 1 one strategy I use is to ensure students can relate to the digital technologies use, and allow students to experiment with different strategies and learning experiences #edtechchat
A1: I'm a teacher and I feel my students are more well-versed than I am when it comes to media so I use it for my English classes and math classes either through exit slips, homeworks, or assignments. #Edtechchat
A1 I try to bring digital tools (and toys) as resources for Ss to demonstrate their level of understanding using fun, engaging ways that promote learning #edtechchat
A1: using tech that students actually like! For example the Kahoot game is always a favourite among students and can really help with informal assessment #edtechchat
A1 - Not in the classroom, but whenever I'm thinking about/brainstorming on new tools, I try to start find a bridge between goal of learning and what we know is fun/engaging. And sometimes, solutions I come up with, are not tech related. #edtechchat
A1. Google forms to preassess for future activities. YouTube for flipped lessons (not new). @Flipgrid to make students the focus. @MetaverseApp and @Sphero for project creation. #EdTechChat
RT ClassTechTips "Hello #edtechchat! Monica Burns, EdTech & Curriculum Consultant, former NYC 1:1 teacher, author and speaker. Excited to be here tonight!"
RT ClassTechTips "A1: Today I had the chance to work with an amazing teacher at StPatsYorktown who was using nearpod VR experiences to support readers 💻 #edtechchat"
A1 use #edtech when I believe it will provide more learning opps for Ss to be engaged in learning, have choices, at student pace, for blended learning, love @nearpod@edmodo@Flipgrid#edtechchat
In reply to
@ClassTechTips, @nearpod, @edmodo, @Flipgrid
A1 Thinking carefully about how #edtech is integrated leads to success which elevates and energizes. Plenty of exploration, choice, and opportunities to demonstration understanding. @nearpod and @padlet have been big hits this year. #edtechchat
A1: I just completed my clinical II. The teacher I observed used a promethium board often, and would ask students to participate by writing on the board. #edtechchat
A1 Author HTML5, interactive content, that supports classroom activities, and is cross platform so also supports student's own exploration using their own devices. #EdTechChat
A1 Rather than having students write daily journals/blogs in helvetica or arial, @calligraphr_com allows students to type in their own handwriting or develop a unique visual font rich w intention #edtechchat
I changed up the traditional final exam review packet with Peardeck and my Ss were excited about coming to class through the last day before finals (today) https://t.co/yI0GpUggt1#edtechchat
A1: I use digital tools, apps, & programs #edtechchat with teachers during PD and daily to communicate or complete tasks. I try to remember to model the tools by using them frequently! Teachers see how they make your job easier and more efficient!
A1. Use #edtech to do research - can be faster and more thorough than encyclopedia IF they get proper training from a skilled librarian, of course.
#edtechchat
A1: I am able to differentiate much easier, help students dig deeper, and give them opportunities to share with a wider audience. Lessons are varied to increase engagement because there are so many great tools out there! #edtechchat
In 6 minutes #Edtechchat welcomes guest moderator @ClassTechTips to discuss Tasks Before Apps: Designing Rigorous Learning in a Tech-Rich Classroom! Don't miss the conversation! TONIGHT 5/14 at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT! #edtech
RT ClassTechTips: Hello #edtechchat! Monica Burns, EdTech & Curriculum Consultant, former NYC 1:1 teacher, author and speaker. Excited to be here tonight!
RT ClassTechTips: A1: Today I had the chance to work with an amazing teacher at StPatsYorktown who was using nearpod VR experiences to support readers 💻 #edtechchat
A few years ago I started making instructional math videos on YouTube for my Gr. 8 Ss. I’m not in the classroom right now, but still enjoy making instructional YouTube videos. A creative outlet for me and different way to learn for Ss. #edtechchat
A1: I use digital tools to tap into students voices and skills, both of which sometimes without these tools - some students are left in the dark. I use these tools so students create products that increase their autonomy, perseverance and independence #edtechchat
A1: #edtech is great to reinforce, introduce, & enhance lessons to reach several modalities. Like any student students take information & process a bit different. #edtech helps reach more Ss #edtechchat
A1: I use digital tools, apps, & programs #edtechchat with teachers during PD and daily to communicate or complete tasks. I try to remember to model the tools by using them frequently! Teachers see how they make your job easier and more efficient!
A1) I look at the world and see audio and video dominating the communication space. Helping students bolster writing skills for something beyond an essay can tie in that core skill as well. Students need to be authors of content. #edtechchat
Like a @breakoutEDU game but done on a device in a Digital setting using google tools mostly. @MsVenturino and @absotTC were the first folks I knew of that created some. #EdTechChat
In reply to
@dnagel15, @sew1080, @breakoutEDU, @MsVenturino, @absotTC
A2: We as teachers and admins need to move past the regurgitate information model of assessment, and allow creativity and expression. Then the tools become interactive #edtechchat
A1: I don’t use them to replace lessons, but to enhance and make it easier. Teach tech skills and digital citizenship along side the lessons. Evaluate why I want to use technology. It should not replace a traditional lesson but enhance it! #edtechchat
A1 - Digital tools in my classroom are never the focus of learning, they are the tool to support it. Using these tools helps us to think broader about what can be done in teaching and learning #EdTechChat
A2 I have learned, pretty much anything they want ;) they have the best ideas, Ss create with the tools we use, they lead, find innovative ways to show learning #edtechchat
A2: There are many options. Students can create blogs, slide presentations, online display boards, websites...anything adults can do, kids are capable of as well. Just lead the way #edtechchat
A2: Encourage and promote the shift. Started my Ss journey in September & we've continued to push boundaries and expand their reach over time, intentionally. #Edtechchat
A2) They can create digital study guides to be shared with the whole 8th grade on google...well that's what my daughter did. But they can create assessments and guides for other students. #EdTechChat
A2 Ts need to provide Ss opportunities to demonstrate their level of understanding by creating original works that shows what they know rather than consuming a video, and taking a test. Let Ss get creative. I personally, love using coding and robots! #edtechchat
htWe can provide students with topics and the tools they need to be creative. Allow students to open up their minds and express everything inside! Be open to any and all possibilities #edtechchat
One avenue I am exploring is @TeacherGaming ... many games ... wait .. learning activities done through games ... kids are learning ... strategizing ... engaging in the activity #edtechchat
A2 Give them a digital choice board and let them choose how they show their learning! Use a combination of apps and programs that the students are familiar with. #edtechchat
A2. Discussions about creating before students begin could be very helpful. If they understand each of these components from the beginning then creating would be much easier for them. #edtechchat
A2. There's nothing wrong with being a consumer. Students need to learn (consume) information in order to show (create). Once they understand org. concept, experimenting, building, drawing - #edtech or paper works great.
#edtechchat
A2 oh my gosh! So many things! https://t.co/Mxueg1rezG is full of em! Here's more: book spine poetry vids (camera movement = spoken rhythm), original scores inspired by primary source documents -- give to local historical society to play in archives browsing room #edtechchat
RT ClassTechTips: Q2 How can students shift from content consumers to content creators? What can they create to "show what they know"? #edtechchathttps://t.co/mwUsML8vu2
A1: I use digital tools, apps, & programs #edtechchat with teachers during PD and daily to communicate or complete tasks. I try to remember to model the tools by using them frequently! Teachers see how they make your job easier and more efficient!
A2) After they grow from there the projects are endless depending on the content. We had groups follow a band, make a promo video, create posters, interview them and write a blog for them. #EdTEchCHat
Agree, but it also takes a teacher that understands the power of it as a creation tool. Many Ts still use it purely for consumption or know and throw apps. PD around content creation is a must to help change their mindset and skillset #edtechchat
A2 - Showing S's what is possible with #edtech allows them to explore their imagination more and use these tools to create. Using tools such as @Seesaw@BookCreatorApp@explainevrythng are such good tools to get S's to show their understandings #EdTechChat
A2 this is interesting because of the consuming to crying crossover that is happening. Look at VR, currently it is mostly consuming but what you do after is creating content #EdTEchCHat
A2 Current activity ... kids writing children's books based on a US History Era ... creativity ... collaboration ... using what ever digital tool works for them...or none at all #edtechchat
Q2: Students can shift from consumers to creators by engaging in the learning. They could create tutorial videos to add to help other teachers, imagine how much students would love teaching teachers about tech. #edtechchat
Video seems pretty popular right now. And I love seeing students draw connections with their favorite games or activities at home to what we do in school #Edtechchat
A2: let #edtech spark those ideas; many Ss have fantastic ideas but need a model to move them in the right direction. Lessons with coding, STEM careers, real-life examples help. #edtechchat
A2: I think providing Ss opportunities to create blogs, podcasts, etc. teaches Ss that they have a voice and opinions that are valued. Feedback from a wider audience (other than the T or classmates) demonstrates the positive impact they can have. #edtechchat
Agree and VR is a great example of consumption. I think as the tools change, we will see this become more accessible for creation #edtechchat. I personally LOVE consuming my #oculusgo but would love creating VR experiences even more.
A2 Current activity ... kids writing children's books based on a US History Era ... creativity ... collaboration ... using what ever digital tool works for them...or none at all #edtechchat
A2 Firmly believe #iftheymakeittheywillgetit; build out digital galleries & museums of student curated & student generated art; allow the world to see it, experience it -- not just the hallway #EdTechChat
A2 Provide Ss with opportunities to create everyday. Whether it is a video, websites, comic, ebooks, meme, badge, lego model, or tweet ask Ss to share their intention behind their decision making. #edtechchat
LOVE @ClassTechTips Tasks Before Apps... pedagogy first. All the time. Just because it’s digital, doesn’t mean it’s good. You can be 100% digital and 100% low level. Let tech be the accelerator... not the driver. [Fullan] #edtechchat
RT ClassTechTips "Q2 How can students shift from content consumers to content creators? What can they create to "show what they know"? #edtechchathttps://t.co/qk5pKTcwGY"
A1: I use digital tools, apps, & programs #edtechchat with teachers during PD and daily to communicate or complete tasks. I try to remember to model the tools by using them frequently! Teachers see how they make your job easier and more efficient!
Teachers should be encouraged to model multiple mediums to communicate ideas and information. Schools should take content creation on Youtube and Social Media seriously instead of banning it. #EdTechChat
A2: What can they not create? Ss can create digitally for an authentic audience. In doing so, they begin to see value is what is being learned and make connections beyond the classroom. #edtechchat
A2: Students become creators when they engage in project based learning. However to do so they must show mastery of the skills that lead up to the project. Facilitating a classroom that is self paced and mastery based can ensure that all students are ready to create #edtechchat
I notice a lot of creation suggestions, end up tied back to trad learning methods (create a *digital* study guide, film an explanation, etc). How do we move Ss towards creating content that demonstrates knowledge by using it to create something knew (not regurgitate)? #edtechchat
I think its important to note that the best way for students to become creators is for the teacher to understand the technology being used! That way they can facilitate better student engagement! Also, if your not sure how to use a tech, always ask a friend/ colleague #edtechchat
9 out of 10 they were not shown how and why technology would or could do anything else. Then you have Ts who are stuck by admin and high stakes testing. That doesn’t negate a just let them approach. I didn’t say all day. 10% time if 20 is too much. #EdTechChat
RT SimpleK12: RT ClassTechTips: A1: Today I had the chance to work with an amazing teacher at StPatsYorktown who was using nearpod VR experiences to support readers 💻 #edtechchat

So much room for an idea like that to grow; make it on @soundtrap & students around the world can collaborate on historical document scores #edtechchat@audreyoclair

When I started I used Smart Notebook and did a screen recording, then edited in iMovie. Now I use Sketchbook and edit in Final Cut Pro X. I love learning about the filmmaking and editing side of things! #edtechchat
Q3: Open-ended creation tools gives students lots of ways to demonstrate their understanding and create a shareable product. What are some of your favorite creation tools? #edtechchat
I like it but I am looking for more in the VR experience. The VR has stagnated for the past 10 years. I want something more like a simulation not a tour #edtechchat
A1: Last year I shifted from lectures to instructional videos and it has changed the way I approach learning. Students work at their own pace and they only move forward when they have show mastery #edtechchathttps://t.co/jnLeO7Ci6S
I too love Expeditions, but we need to get away from putting Expeditions in the #VR bubble. This is really just a 360 photo experience using a headset. I want to see more opportunities for real VR creation tools become easier to create experiences #edtechchat
I found this to be a mixed bag. Teachers should understand output but to have mastery over tech tools isn’t needed to support Ss. That is if you’re okay telling Ss you “don’t know”. #EdTechChat
I have puzzled over this for some time. Genius hour seemed to work better when creative passions were harnessed with a purpose. Students with consumptive passions struggled to develop their work to a point of pride and satisfaction in a job well done. #edtechchat
This question is interesting to me, and I am exctied to see your responses. I have a semester before I am teaching, so I am just going to follow this one! In every aspect of our lives we need creativity. If we can't create it, do we really know it? #edtechchat
I think its important to note that the best way for students to become creators is for the teacher to understand the technology being used! That way they can facilitate better student engagement! Also, if your not sure how to use a tech, always ask a friend/ colleague #edtechchat
A3: My Ss always enjoyed designing websites and coding video games to show and share their learning. Both gave them the freedom to be creative and complete ownership. #edtechchat
I would recommend checking the game setting before, so that you don't go through the questions automatically. Stop and have a discussion with your students when there are students getting questions wrong. It's engaging, but I use it for formative assessments first! #edtechchat
I use to believe that. But, I find it's actually really easy to memorize something and/or make something, without full understanding. It's only when pushed to use knowledge in a new context, that real understanding shows. #edtechchat
A2: In the context of math google sheets really bring statistics to life. Teaching students how to manipulate spreadsheets to complete calculations and organize and display data is powerful #edtechchat
A2: Shifting students into content creators takes praising creativity. The first time students try a new video editing app or recording a song, it may not be a success. Praising them and allowing them to share HOW the process went with others is a good step. #edtechchat
Q3: Open-ended creation tools gives students lots of ways to demonstrate their understanding and create a shareable product. What are some of your favorite creation tools? #edtechchat
I don't think the teacher needs to necessarily understand how to use the technology. I think it's important that the teacher understands what's possible with it rather than how to use. #EdTechChat
Have you met Mr. Elmer?? https://t.co/x2gxP4dLoe
• Integrate student data
• Represent progress on an electronic Data Wall
• Streamline schools’ RTI/MTSS/PBIS system
• Suggest specific supports based on diagnosed needs #edtechchat#learnlap
I'm all ears for any ideas. We are struggling with this now. After a semester of design cycle support some Ss are still fixated on writing a research paper. We've opened the options up and traditional products are still winning out in a few cases. #edtechchat
A2: when they use tech the way adults use it in daily lives or work. When they have a choice in creating something to show what they learn and can use their product in their daily lives! #edtechchat
A3: Love this, and this question is at the very core of why we created a @YouTube#Creator#Academy next year — to answer this very question — how do we shift our mindset from consumers to creators? #EdTechChat
When we got new #edtech in, I always gave it to a student and told them they were responsible for figuring out how to use it, teaching me, and being the classroom expert. #edtechchat
I don't think the teacher needs to necessarily understand how to use the technology. I think it's important that the teacher understands what's possible with it rather than how to use. #EdTechChat
I would agree with Dan. The teacher does not have to be the expert with the tool in order for the kids to use it. Yes, they should have a basic understanding, but let the kids find the bells and whistles! #edtechchat
A2: Love this, and this question is at the very core of why we created a @YouTube#Creator#Academy next year — to answer this very question — how do we shift our mindset from consumers to creators? #EdTechChat
A3 I freakin love Keynote @AppleEDU! It is so robust & allows so much customization; great for all graphics & visuals -- not just slide decks; huge fan of Pages for similar reasons -- I just naturally take to Keynote 1st #EdTechChat
Q3: Open-ended creation tools gives students lots of ways to demonstrate their understanding and create a shareable product. What are some of your favorite creation tools? #edtechchat
#edtechchat A3. I am a K-2 Instructional Coach. Our students use @Flipgrid to create books reviews. They also use it as a tool for fluency. The possibilities are endless.
a2 Inquiry-based learning often results in a product that can be creative. Just asking, "What else?" can elicit creativity in unexpected, humorous ways. The outrageous can blaze roads toward the practical. #edtechchat
A2: when they use tech the way adults use it in daily lives or work. When they have a choice in creating something to show what they learn and can use their product in their daily lives! #edtechchat
Yes. I think training should be on method, process, and output versus specific tools that come and go. Teaching what makes a great video, a great story, a great visual is timeless whether its Apple, Google, Adobe, or the next emerging company. #edtechchat
A3: @EVERFI FutureSmart- Ss create a blueprint for their future, Venture- create a food truck business, and Endeavor- manufacture their own sneakers! #edtechchat
Q3: Open-ended creation tools gives students lots of ways to demonstrate their understanding and create a shareable product. What are some of your favorite creation tools? #edtechchat
Q1 I have online class discussions and collaborative activities through Padlet, interactive and multi-media lessons through Nearpod, and engaging-interactive-immediate-feedback activities through b.socrative! My students are always being assessed and are engaged! #edtechchat
That doesn't surprise me. We all gravitate towards the known. :) I think sometimes, this is where it's easier if you start with a project, not specific content goals (or at least hide them a bit). By doing the project, Ss encounter the content in a meaningful way. #edtechchat
A3) I am an 18 year veteran of @Adobe Design products. I am absolutely in love with @AdobeSpark and how simple and easy it is for anyone age 6 to 60 to create powerful visuals. #edtechchat
A3 Paper and pencil is an integral part of my creative process. Next is a text editor (emacs). The human mind, along with it's knowledge and creativity, is the most important piece. #EdTechChat
@GregBaby I think we can make a distinction between production-based learning and content construction. You can learn in production based way without always making so prezi. #edtechchat

Hmmmm i think students can become creators at any stage; key is: to what extent do we allow revision & new learning to inform new iterations of those creations? #EdTechChat
If any of you have a minute to review the question that was posed at (scroll down to see it) https://t.co/Js9W1VJ0mk about technology and have insight into a great response, it would be appreciated! #edtechchat
A3. Anything is a content creator (paper & pencil, Word or Google docs, etc.). I do like @DoInkTweets Green Screen a lot. Very easy to use and very flexible.
#edtechchat
There is at least one AP Biology lab that capitalizes on the power of Google Sheets. It relates to the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium and it's quite eye opening with the graphs it creates. #edtechchat
Wow! I'm impressed by the number of tools so many have used with your students! Any favourites? Or does that the defeat the purpose of open-ended creations? #edtechchat

A3) Big fan of using Google Slides to create self contained interactive diagrams. Google for the live collaboration of course. https://t.co/vaILRv7Z8J#edtechchat

We use @DoInkTweets every chance we get in the elementary school. 2nd grade does promotional videos about our city, my lower school tech team used it to create how to videos- 2 of my favorites! #edtechchat

A4 Funny, collaboration in a classroom with digital tools looks quite similar to those that don’t have access. Ss working together, being productive, being good citizens. Digital spaces are what they will experience in the real world so they need to feel comfortable #edtechchat
A4 Students collaborating in a digital space requires digital citizenship to be taught and modeled. Ss need to know how to interact online, and they don't come to us already aware of that! #edtechchat
Students being able to collaborate in those tools on their own, outside of the classroom - of course, in a way Ts can still monitor. Give more freedom to create together when they want, not just in the classroom. #EdTechChat

A4: Collaboration gives learners an opportunity to share ideas, solve problems, and learn to work together towards a goal. With #edtech, this can be done anywhere, anytime. No need to be in the same room, building, or country! #edtechchat
A4 This is going to be strongly age dependent. With K having little collaboration, to 12 having asynchronous discussions, social media, blogs, etc. #EdTechChat
Augmented reality apps exist at so many levels now that we are building a scope and sequence around the media. @quiver in early elementary, LegoAR and @MergeVR for content and game, @blippar when the students are ready to create their own experiences. Lots of fun! #edtechchat

I hear that. Leverage the Mystery Skype movement and continue the classroom to classroom connection to work on exploring flora and fauna, regional idioms, local history and monuments, current events, temperature...so many opportunities. #edtechchat
A4: Collaboration becomes a challenge when we overuse technology in the classroom. Students must engage in a healthy balance of tech and peer to peer collaboration otherwise engagement slowly deteriorates #edtechchat
Collaboration helps students grow from each other, but as someone who completely shuts down with a complete stranger, I would recommend allowing the students to work with people they communicate well with! Helps creativity grow! #edtechchat
A5 - Collaboration is a reminder that we live in communities, not as individual silos. It's important to realize that what we do impacts others, and what they do impacts us. Working together, we build our networks and communities. #edtechchat
Q4: What does collaboration look like in a classroom where students have access to digital tools? Why is collaboration important in digital spaces? #edtechchat
Balance with everything is key but we need to keep in mind that the world is hyper connected now and we can’t ignore that or send a wrong and confusing message to Ss that THIS is school and THAT is the rest of the world. #edtechchat
A2: Content curation tools like @padlet are great for shifting students from consumers to creators. They like using the Padlet's I make but they LOVE making their own! #edtechchat
A4 - I think it's important to define roles when collaborating with digital tools. We use #BlueBots and have to work in 3s. One person codes, one films, one 'directs'. Works well (most times) #EdTechChat
I'd counter and say make groups a bit bigger, and mix people you know and don't know. That way people there for comfort, but also new people to expand your community. #edtechchat
I'm super excited to work with a class participating in their first Skype virtual field trip next week! So many ways to use tech to explore the world #tasksbeforeapps#edtechchat
A4) Every night for the past week my daughter has collaborated with someone over their AP English or AP Euro work... Chromebook, Phone, and iPad all at the same time, and I love it. #EdTechChat
Very true! The flipside is stifling student momentum bc "1st we have to do the work before the fun creating stuff" #gross the acquisition of knowledge, formative assessments can be creative experiences too! #edtechchathttps://t.co/y0tmrsW64A
A4 Collaboration is one of the most powerful uses for #edtech! It allows even why or introverted Ss a method to interact w others. It's 24/7/365 access to working with others and the reality our Ss will face in college and career. #edtechchat
RT ClassTechTips "T_HEB TheTechRabbi I'm super excited to work with a class participating in their first Skype virtual field trip next week! So many ways to use tech to explore the world #tasksbeforeapps#edtechchat"
I agree with this, collaboration and working together should not all be done through screens. Students still need peer engagement and interaction. #edtechchat

A4. Google forms are terrific for all to use as a part of collaboration. Wanted to share this link from @alicekeeler in case any of you would like to bookmark it. 57 short videos will help you know more about Google Forms. https://t.co/JmquTr1irP#edtechchat
I use these when I present for professional devel. I'm more relaxed bc I'm getting to know and understand participants as I work through the material, & no one out there is snoozing. #edtechchat
A4: Collaboration in a classroom is important because it allows us room to talk about digital citizenship. Communicating and collaborating online is essential in this constantly connected world! #edtechchat

Great point Ashton! Allowing social pairings improves communication with a trusted partner. Keeping the same social pairings for a length of time builds a conversational history & even deeper discussions (I notice this myself in Twitter chats with known participants) #edtechchat
Exactly! Why do we insist on novelty as the hook? Making meaningful & interesting & compelling content that demos #deeperlearning should take precedent over "we gotta use 11 new apps this week!" #EdTechChat
LOVE @ClassTechTips Tasks Before Apps... pedagogy first. All the time. Just because it’s digital, doesn’t mean it’s good. You can be 100% digital and 100% low level. Let tech be the accelerator... not the driver. [Fullan] #edtechchat

A5: Really like using @SpheroEdu or @Ozobot for Ss to create historical timelines. Also, love @googlemaps for Ss to create their own historical maps. Also, enjoy creating research questions to help Ss build research skills. #edtechchat
A4: I’m a huge proponent of self-awareness. @garyvee pushed this on me so much that I finally broke. And I’m glad I did. Nothing cements what you’re truly capable of until your forced to articulate your thoughts and ideas in a collaborative space. #EdTechChat
Q5: I don't know about #tasksbeforeapps. Separating learning from technology can detrimental to today's learners. Students can learn, create and collaborate through technology and without #edtechchat
A5: As a history teacher, technology has completely transformed what research looks like in my classroom. Students now have access to unlimited amounts of info. That brings new challenges but... internet > textbooks #edtechchat
A5 I love when I hear first graders say “can we seesaw this?” When students get to decide what they do is tech worthy is awesome. Allowing students the choice to use tech makes it more pedagogical focused #Edtechchat
Providing students with digital tools provides them with access to connect beyond the walls of the classroom, collaborate globally and the ability to acquire self directed learning knowledge #edtechchat Q4
A5. I love helping students explore @galileolibrary. I teach how to search databases AND how to search Google at the same time. The students remember better when I tie the two together. It becomes a challenge.

A5 I work with an 8th gr ELA teacher who used @padlet for her students to create Anne Frank projects that used to be put on poster board. Now they have links to information about Anne Frank they have videos about the Secret Annex blog posts podcasts maps and more #edtechchat
I think the "and without" is critical here. #TasksBeforeApps is, to me at least, about laying out learning objects independent of any tech, and seeing where tech can then be used to enhance, instead of planning at the same time, or *gasp* choosing tech then objectives #edtechchat
A5 Some of our favorite #edtech rich activities are creating a mill city in #MinecraftEDU (so much collaboration & DT), building a soundtrack for our lit book w/ green screen book trailer, & multi genre project busts open the tech toolbox. #taskbeforeapps#edtechchat#whimsy
Thank goodness because I've been having students use @scratch and they are LOVING it! But I don't have a clue how to use the program. Its great watching the kids help each other when they get stuck. I'm glad they're more knowledgable than me! #edtechchat

AQ1: I've recently started using @PearDeck for those "boring lecture" days and ask students to draw pictures of key vocab terms or answer questions regarding the content. #edtechchat

1) complete a retake request form 2)must do at least 4 new learning tasks (I have a list)
3) resubmit the original test
4) must have given an honest effort on first test (no sneak peeks)
5) can be any score that retakes test 6) new grade replaces old #EdTechChat

Great message about #tasksbeforeapps - the learning must come first, then technology to augment and redefine what is possible in the classroom. Should never be tech for tech sake. #edtechchat
Favourite tech activity is students using video to connect with the community and raise awareness about local and global issues and opportunities. #edtechchat@OakVideo#OakOscars video showcase #tvdsbglobal

Running course this summer (probably August) for teacher who want to take their blog to the #indieweb, learn how to use GitHub, and start remixing and sharing our coursework. No HTML knowledge required. You will learn DM to be added to list. #edtechchathttps://t.co/RSh6BcUDSm

I really question the wisdom of seeing these as separate concerns. Of course, bad design is bad design. But we should get away from seeing tech as something from outside. https://t.co/GLSTko2S7l The book was once leading edge #EdTechChat
