#edchatie I think there should be an expectation that if your topic is picked that you should be there to lead the discussion. #goodmanners
  • conpower Oct 2 @ 3:50 PM EDT
Its a hard topic to engage with this week I feel. #edchatie
  • johnmayo Oct 2 @ 3:51 PM EDT
#edchatie someone felt engaged enough to propose it and enough more to vote for it. #twiddlingfingers
  • rieaust Oct 2 @ 3:52 PM EDT
I don't think assessment for learning is a hard topic. As an art teacher I have been doing it for my whole teaching career #edchatie
  • rieaust Oct 2 @ 3:53 PM EDT
I just never called it assessment for learning #edchatie
  • miriambergin Oct 2 @ 3:53 PM EDT
ok so we need to state learning intentions, use kahoot, traffic lights, to check learning is taking place, any other suggestions #edchatie
  • conpower Oct 2 @ 3:55 PM EDT
Don't we mostly just call this formative assessment these days. #edchatie

#edchatie So what is Responsive Teaching ?
  • rieaust Oct 2 @ 3:55 PM EDT
It is a reflection process. Yes apps can play a part but students need to reflect. A process of challenging them. What can you do #edchatie

  • johnmayo Oct 2 @ 4:01 PM EDT

I think when AfL guru, Dylan William, saw the monster he created eg ‘levels’ in UK, he wished he had called it “responsive teaching” instead

  • Woodsiem Oct 2 @ 4:04 PM EDT
Think purpose of AFL is often lost in talk of tools- should be more focussed on principles - what tools you use shouldn't matter #edchatie
  • miriambergin Oct 2 @ 4:04 PM EDT
learning intentions are KEY via @JCforTeachers , and are checked via success criteria, all new buzz words with a purpose, I guess. #edchatie

  • istone_irene Oct 2 @ 4:04 PM EDT
Responsive teaching is AFL - it's responding to students thinking but is all AFL responsive teaching? #edchatie
  • Woodsiem Oct 2 @ 4:05 PM EDT
Only if you feel they have to be shared at start which is not always appropriate #edchatie
    In reply to @istone_irene
  • EllenKMetcalf Oct 2 @ 4:05 PM EDT
Yep. AFL never intended to replace summative Assessment. Trying to make a hybrid of the two particularly problematic #edchatie
    In reply to @michealcannon
  • _conorgalvin Oct 2 @ 4:06 PM EDT
#edchatie As well as the rather challenging idea that it's at its best when the students are also involved deeply in their own assessment.
    In reply to @johnmayo
  • NPampilo Oct 2 @ 4:07 PM EDT
Right, app may not be sufficient in itself-evaluate, assess and let ss create projects and reflection- kahoot, linoit, slide video #edchatie
  • _conorgalvin Oct 2 @ 4:08 PM EDT

  • conpower Oct 2 @ 4:15 PM EDT
#edchatie seems a whole school approach is needed. It's a hearts and minds type change.
    In reply to @NPampilo
  • EllenKMetcalf Oct 2 @ 4:16 PM EDT
And LOs used in class need to look very different to those in subject specifications. If the same they're either so simplistic #edchatie

  • Woodsiem Oct 2 @ 4:23 PM EDT
The purpose of sharing learning intentions as a principle of AFL is to ensure that students know where their learning is focussed #edchatie
    In reply to @EllenKMetcalf, @michealcannon, @daisychristo
  • NPampilo Oct 2 @ 4:23 PM EDT

#edchatie Hard work sometimes convincing students that failure in class tests etc can be a positive if used to inform study & revision. You see this in the around of students cheating in class exams or homework. Don't paper over the cracks!
