Thanks for joining, Autumn! The first question was just posted.
Q1. What are some potential challenges that kids with #LD or #ADHD may encounter while engaging with others online? #LDchat

A1. I think that some challenges might include understanding how information comes across. Students with LD or ADHD might also struggle with understanding how certain websites require more attention than others to use them. #ldchat
A1: I think students with learning and attention issues will face issues similar to other young people, but the consequences might not be understood. Check out Dig Cit & #SEL: Navigating Digital Dilemmas https://t.co/7bjrsQlIdl#LDchat#digcit
The unique culture of multiplayer online video games can be challenging for kids who struggle with impulse control, self-regulation or social skills. #LDchathttps://t.co/pZjApQOIxg
A1: Kids may also make quick decisions online that are driven by their emotions which could cause #digitaldrama. Encourage kids to take time to reflect before sharing online with a flowchart like the one here.

A2. Cyberbullying can impact a child with LD/ADHD because as someone else said, they might not understand the consequences of what they say. They can also be a lot more offended simply because of interpreting something the wrong way. Parents can help by supervising. #ldchat

I think we can encourage students by letting them get to choose some of the activities they do, or even how they do them. Letting them use their imagination and helping them feel like they have a voice of what they can do. #ldchat
A2) Certain kids may be ultra-sensitive to mean behaviors from others, and their sensitivity may make them even more vulnerable. Adults can arm them with how to respond -- and supervise and set limits on their online time as well. #LDchat
A2: This is the easiest way I visualize the difference between bullying and cyberbullying. It is so much easier for a misunderstanding in tone to blow up into a really serious situation #LDchat
#LDchat#barbersclass Q1: Potential challenges kids with LD or ADHD may encounter online when engaging with others are others who are rude or unkind online. They also might not fully understand someone's humor or way of thinking.

#LDchat#Barbersclass A2: Cyberbullying can impact these children because they may get more upset than other or not understand why someone is being a bully to them. A parent or educator can help by explaining that these people don't determine their value or worth.
No. 1: Model it. Show them what you get out of it, how you interact and respond, and what you avoid. If you're not connected, it's very hard to teach. #DigCit#LDchat A3

#LDchat#Barbersclass A3: We can teach that the internet and social media are meant to be for positive posts and experiences. We can also share several different educational opportunities the internet can be used for.
A3. Often we talk about the negatives of social media, which causes kids to tune out thinking we don't understand it's importance. Flipping the dialogue to show how social media can have a positive impact when used correctly, can be a game changer. #LDchat
And don't start with the dangers. I think that's one of the biggest mistakes in how schools and communities approach social media. Start with the positive, the great connections, the learning... that's far more empowering than lecturing primarily on the dangers. #DigCit#LDchat

CommonSenseEd: A3: Also, be intentional about modeling the behavior you want to see in your kids with your internet and social media use. #digcit#LDchat

Exactly! For the first time, some of these kids are connecting with people they identify with from across the globe. It's such a powerful tool for self-confidence, they just need guidance on how to harness that power properly. #LDchat
