"Welcome to EdTechAfterDark! Our community was born out of discussions for a rich EdChat type gathering for those of us who are thinking about the digital edu-landscape long after the sun has gone down. For us night owls, when the clock strikes 10PM EST, you’ll find us on Twitter over at #edtechafterdark. All are welcome! Our discussions range from our philosophies about EdTech, digital best practices, and simply sharing our stories." --www.edtechafterdark.com
Welcome to #edtechafterdark! I’ll be moderating tonight alongside my buds @alexstubenbort & @MrLeonard8. Introduce yourself, your role in edu, location, and a GIF representing your feeling about a new school year.
A1: Ts and staff that are stuck in their ways. Fixed mindset instead of growth mindsets. Looking to stay with the status quo instead of being open. #EdTechAfterDark
A2: Tech is a great thing but it cannot help with avoiding cheating, getting the face to face interaction Ss need to experience, and there are some that have limited sources of tech to help them with achieving what they need. #edtechafterdark
Love this answer. In regard to cheating, I feel like technophobia has exacerbated this fear—although I also believe that if you’re afraid of Ss googling the answer, you’re not asking the right questions. #edtechafterdark

A3: Biggest would be that it doesn’t end up working for the school, in particular Ss. Seems great and gets a lot of great praise and pitches yet misses the target, growing Ss and helping them reach their goals and beyond. #edtechafterdark
A3 Ts all teach differently and that is a good thing. They need to find the right tool that works for their teaching and their Ss. Be creative and don’t just use the newest tool because everybody else is. Find a way to make it your own. #edtechafterdark
Q3: we need to discuss the ethics of that too. If a doctor was a “Pfizer ambassador” or “Tylenol trainer” would that be ethical for him to hawk the wares? #edtechafterdark
A4: my favorite new thing I’ve learned is the paint tube in keynote. This was made with nothing but the paint tube. I’m a terrible artist and I made these! #edtechafterdark
A4: Last year we focused on celebrating growth that was made. From small to huge growth, it was all celebrated. One thing I’m focused on with my Ts this year is promoting felexibilty and openness to autonomy to build a classroom that is connected and winning. #edtechafterdark
A4 I am currently obsessed with tracing and drawing in Keynote. I think it will be a super creative way for Ss to add to their own artwork to anything they create! #edtechafterdark
A5: Promoting collaboration time in the classrooms. Invite As into the room to see the impacts. Use data to speak to decisions made about projects and learning. Drive creativity through affirmations and free time to work on independent needs/wants. #edtechafterdark
A5 Like many things that push traditional education, find somebody that will try it, others will see it and want to jump in! It doesn’t hurt to have supportive admin! #edtechafterdark
A6: there’s so much tech and many Ts have a million other things to do than worry about tech and utilizing it in their room. There are also those that are stickler with tech like phones. Instead of teaching he to have a phone, we take take take. #edtechafterdark
