Glad you could join us! Didn't you all have open house tonight?
-
To save characters Ss=students, Ts= teachers, Ps=Parents, Ad=Admin

Question 1 in one minute. Make sure you are ending tweets with

Debbie Blackwell from MIS
-
Hey! glad to see you tonight!
-
-
someone had open house tonight...maybe UP
-
-
it's good to be here on Spring Break Eve
-
-
my loyal co-moderator is in the house!
-
-
only bad thing is my kids are off the week after
-
A1: It's allowed every S to share their thoughts in a variety of ways. Enhanced their abilities quicker than before
-
-
-
true our Ss are digital natives, and we forget that our fears should not hinder them
-
A1: Yes, I love Google Classroom! It has been a great way for me give assignments and monitor them
-
Welcome! Glad to have you
-
A1 technology makes it possible to connect with resources previously inaccessible, i.e. global, authors, experts, etc
-
A1 tech has allowed me to offer my Ss more options when creating learning artifacts. Also more options for differentiation.
-
A1: The ability to reach a large/authentic/global audience in an efficient way is key. Great for Ts, but better for Ss.
-
Gclassroom makes me want to be in a classroom again...so cool
-
A1: As a P, I love the notices and reports from skyward as well
-
-
A1: Also has been great for extension activities and doing research on various topics
-
there are so many tools that accommodate all learning styles
-
we love those kind of connections. Really makes the Ss proud
-
Technology has helped me stay connected with my colleagues.
-
A1 technology makes it possible to interview great candidates long distance on GoogleHangout or Skype
-
DI was the biggest difference for me last year. S's were excited about the possibilities
-
do you remember the 26 set of encyclopedias? That made research not fun!
-
A1: Classroom has been a great tool to communicate. Using Kaizena to give feedback is another good choice.
-
Question 2 in one minute. Make sure you are ending tweets with
-
I think as we moved to GAFE that was the biggest change for us. So much easier to share now
-
A1b: I love how digital tools let you prepare posts ahead of time. Great time saver!
-
It has helped me communicate in a new way! I love learning new ways to communicate!
-
-
it is amazing how excited the Ss get when you dip your toes in just a little! YAY!
-
agreed! I love that you can truly provide immediate assessment anytime/anywhere
-
A2: I feel that we have a more cohesive idea of what is going on now that most people are in the know https://t.co/iz1kDGILiI
-
A1: Surveys via Forms gives Ss a voice as well
-
so is it working ok? I wanted to play with kaizena so much! Just never got a chance
-
A2 I don't know how we did it without GoogleApps...love to share, comment, co-create, co-edit
-
A2:Now able to communicate with Ss & rectify issues before submission. We learn together & communicate together
-
A2 google docs allows us to share
-
-
have you used their input to tweek things?
-
We put a lot of resources and our lesson plans on Google Docs for everyone to see which makes our team meetings very efficient
-
arent you glad we all pushed for GAFE and not O360?!?
-
Technology has helped me collaborate in real time to colleagues near and far!
-
the only issue I had with Kaizena is that the Ss forget their ear buds
-
It is so great to show Ss how the revision process works. Little things that make a big difference
-
We get so much more done! And when the note taker is typing, the rest of us add links and make corrections
-
joining late, excited to catch up - Marli, Kindergarten at Bradfield
-
quality of work dramatically improved and they really appreciate the immediate feedback...far more progressive
-
I LOVE being able to see what others are doing. I learn so much more now
-
yes. I'm trying to make the workflow a little easier to follow.
-
-
Question 3 in one minute. Make sure you are ending tweets with
-
when Ss know you are working with them they are more willing to work harder
-
then you are a superstar for joining us! Did you get any fam time tonight?
-
-
I'd love to see what you all are doing to try to help
-
A3: Using backchannels allow the "quiet" Ss to find their voice and get more involved in class
-
My 4th graders are enjoying sending videos of themselves playing their songs to me for assessment.
-
A3: Yes, I think it allows them to have choice in their learning and use creativity. Their products are unique.
-
how fun! Meet the teacher and her little one! And thx we love when you share you knowledge too!
-
A2 LA/SS dept used Docs and Sheets to plan, design lessons, and gather resources during our last early dismissal
-
A3: Ss started using Classkick last week. Fabulous FREE assessment tool where Ts can see Ss work in real time and give feedback
-
A3 yes. my Ss create research projects based on their interests. They are obsessed. They are excited about the process & sharing
-
what a great idea! And you know those videos will be a treat as they get older
-
-
A3: Yes! Ss take ownership and sometimes become the T/leader. Ts are facilitator of learning. Natural progression if Ts allow!
-
Ss LOVE to teach/help each other
-
A3 tech can support learner centered approach through engagement, choice, interest, and differentiation.
-
It is astounding the tools they know how to use. I learn so much watching them work!
-
it's like genius hour through edtech
-
-
We just need to remember to LET them!
-
my new fav app! I showed it to math Ts who are going to use it
-
it is fantastic when SS can be the experts in the room.
-
That last tweet should have said - my 4th graders play their songs for assessment on their recorders and email a video.
-
"oh the places they will go"...so glad to be along for the ride
-
Students in 4th grade are learning note names by using Kahoot. They love the competition!
-
-
Question 4 in one minute. Make sure you are ending tweets with
-
A3: Ss can use tech to reteach themselves and move at their own pace.
-
-
-
I'd love to see that. Wondering how the music works with that?
-
-
I can sometimes hear your Kahoot music when walking by! The kids love it and it is a great assessment
-
-
AND the right tool for the job. That's where we have to carefully leverage tech.
-
still not as good as your chat meme...I'll be using that from now on!
-
A4: Ss will always need to know how to communicate face to face with all types of people and tech does not always help that
-
A4: Interpersonal skills still need to be examined. Human interaction is still very important for all. Shows emotion w/o a screen
-
A1: I use a lot to notify S of upcoming stuff or if I totally forgot to mention something in class! sorry I am late!
-
That is KEY they need those social skills
-
A4: Then there is the ability to work in mixed groups. You have to learn to work with the ppl that stress you out too!
-
A4 Fine motor development still has to be taught and practiced.
-
-
I think we have to strike a balance, though. We need to make sure we continue to keep social interactive skills.
-
A1: I also post everything to Google calendar and have to students pull up PP or slides when we are actually going over notes
-
forgot all about that! Scissor skills aren't learned very well on an iPad
-
A4: And don't we all still grab a pen/pencil to write things down from time to time?
-
do they take notes on what you provide?
-
Yes, but, this week a class spoke to someone in Germany after reading Number the Stars. Hard to recreate w/o tech!
-
A4b: learning through play and problem solving skills
-
Sometimes w/tech initiatives Ts think that they can only use technology, and we all know that is most definitely not the case.
-
yes! But it allows the slower copiers to copy at there own pace, but also really gives them a chance to listen to me!
-
surely Ts don't think we expect EVERYTHING to be digital
-
Another skill not enhanced by tech...LISTENING!
-
Question 5 in one minute. Make sure you are ending tweets with
-
my whole family know to back off on twitter nights...it one of the 1st Qs they ask me on Tue and Thur
-
Goes back to not being about the tool. Appropriate time for appropriate use.
-
Q5: When given the opportunity, are Ss more or less likely to use tech as a tool in your classroom? https://t.co/YWtxMjI5jc
-
A4: tech is great with online flash cards, but something to be said about physically flipping cards over.
-
A2: I love sharing stuff on the google drive versus through email! Also love being able to take Google in my pocket!
-
A5: Had a T tell me that just as many of her Ss chose the poster as the movie. Ss know their own strengths
-
Ts sometimes apologize to me for using paper. I like PASS: paper as a secondary source. By the fabulous
-
or your backpack, or your purse...or all 3!
-
My students love to use technology as an extension to the hands on music skills we are learning in music.
-
I have observed that Ss listen better when they are not panicked or feel rushed to copy before I click next!
-
we have to have a graphic for that...I now have HW
-
A5: depends on the kid, the project, and the day. sometimes they surprise me. they don't always choose tech.
-
And who doesn't like to grade while standing in line for something?
-
A5 if it is drawing pictures or graphics, my Ts like pencil/paper. But if it is reporting something, they prefer technology.
-
-
A5: Ss usually opt for edtech tools because it enhancers their learning and they have more autonomy in the process
-
and i'm sometimes suprised by what they decide to produce without the tech
-
-
A5:Ss are more likely to use tech. They appear to feel free to experiment.
-
A5: Many are likely to use tech, but the Q is in what way? Are they using it for higher level thinking/ problem solving/ creating?
-
A3: classroom allows me more 1 on 1 time especially to reach my more timid Ss. Love being able to drop an assignment in and go!
-
and in the process they learn so many other skills...it is not all about the tech
-
if I could not look at my phone for 10 min... That would be a miracle!
-
A5: MySSprefer technology for writing and researching. They prefer reading an actual book instead of on the computer
-
The littles need to learn all of it! Every skill, every subject. Tech has a role, but can't be everything.
-
they need to understand how the tech will enhance the product. It should not BE the project
-
A5 If they'd been doing high-tech, they'd opt for low-tech & vice versa. Or the newest tool. Or the easiest. So...No pattern.
-
Question 6 in one minute. Make sure you are ending tweets with
-
-
-
I do audible books, but my kids still love to hold, flip the pages, and curl up with the book.
-
-
A4: socialization at times.phones are key to a silent advisory. Ss struggle with self control when technology isn't present
-
A6: Found this post interesting
-
If I could grade a few Qs while waiting 4 something, I felt victorious. Then go home and have less to do.
-
and let's remember when the book hits you in your sleeping face it doesn't hurt like the ipad!
-
A6: I think it is deciding which assignments are best with technology and which are best without
-
-
and getting the tech-lover to try a different kind of project to showcase their other talents
-
-
A6 Perhaps the best balance is when Tech becomes simply another tool like paper or pencil, not just a novelty.
-
A6: I think SAMR helps with this. If it is just substitution, is it worth it? If it modifies and redefines the assignment, do it!
-
I use it as an extension in music once they learn a new skill.
-
A5: anything involving their phone=yes! Old lap tops=no! New fancy cart=can't use them enough!
-
A6 I agree with
sometimes I have to offer tech as a choice & sometimes not. It's hard, esp since Ss know so much.
-
-
I used Quia for quiz & HW. Some Ss wanted paper, but I asked them to take 1/2 quizzes 1st. Ss wrote more online.
-
but they still need all those other skill too. The balance all depends on the Ss in your room
-
Remember to follow people from the chat to keep the conversation going
-
So true! They are loving Chromebooks and iPads.
-
A6: there are concepts the whiteboard is just easier for! like chemistry! Now, both technology/board at the same time is my fav!
