Welcome to tonight’s #edchatie discussion about “GDPR and Schools”. Please introduce yourself before we begin and remember to include the hashtag #edchatie in all tweets for the next hour
Thats a good start alright. We are trying to make it relevant to teachers in a classroom situation, rather than the very (necessary) technical language.

16 it is .... there was a lot of debate in early / mid- May. Some interesting arguments to retain 13 when you dig under the surface. Strong links to GDPR too #edchatie
Just read your blog now - does it mean that once a parent gives consent then technically their info is tied to their child's = more info for facebook, etc..?
Agree with need for "Privacy by Design" from the start and "Education"

Kate Urell- first time on #edchatie we had to disband the teachers' WhatsApp group due to the new regulations which was very handy when I ran the mock exams.
Not just at that point yet George. Still gathering information. Initial work on identifying key staff in school that will need specific guidance as well as normal teachers. #gdpr#minefield#edchatie

But to be fair, ads for alcohol are readily available on TV and (I could be wrong here as I don't frequent sporting venues) at most sports venues. They could be safer looking at their phones ;-)

Late to the chat but there seems to be a lot of good talk here about GDPR. Have many schools appointed someone to head this up? Or has it just been BOM/principal? #edchatie
#edchatie Organisation has an on us to be aware of BYOD use and what data is on it and how used. Chromebooks a good option for G Suite schools as they are encrypted as standard.
We will need a few extra shredders now! Also how can we encrypt files? Is google classroom viable to communicate with sts and parents now? @conpower@fboss#edchatie
We're into the famous final five minutes of tonight's #edchatie discussion about "GDPR and Schools".
Any last words/thoughts/solutions or helpful links?
#edchatie Full disk encryption like bitlocker or if using USB encrypt the drive or use something like veracrypt to create encrypted container. Chromebooks are already encrypted.
I don't believe there is any issue there. They are all GDPR compliant under normal useage. Unless users are doing something unintented like downloading lists grades etc and not securing said data. #edchatie

I’ve been told (although I’m no expert) that personal devices accessing school data was an issue. Hopefully common sense can prevail with this though #edchatie
