Connecting active Participate teachers with the Teacher Resources team to share PD, classroom tips and global lessons. Chat with us live on 2nd Thursdays from 7-7:30 p.m. EST.
A1: I remember my first of school here in NC coming from Honduras. I told ss to line up and it was messy. On day 2 I had procedures for lining up: numbers for each st and arrows on the floor. #participatetrchat
A1: I have set up a routine for when they come to school. Come in, take correspondence folder out of bag, sit and work quietly on whatever task I have assigned. It works. #participatetrchat
A1: One experience I had was that each morning the students came and music was playing from ClassDojo and the students got to work on short sets of language arts and math problems. I think the music really helped them to calm down from the rush of the morning #participatetrchat
A1: as a former HS teacher, my students cared deeply about their image. So had a procedure in place for students who knew the answer but didn’t want to be called on #socoolforschool#participatetrchat
A1: I routinely plan out my day and tasks every morning so that I am organized. I write it all down, leaving sections open to add to as I go along, such as homework or last minute plans. It keeps my day on track but not too concrete. :) #participateTRchat

A1: we have procedures for all of the transitional times of day. Timers on the whiteboard to help count down to the end of sessions, each child has a specific order for when we are lining up for lunch, recess etc. #participatetrchat
A1 It can be both empowering and helpful when students have roles! Eg, one student gets markers, another one collects resources etc. It can encourage teamwork and responsibility, as well as helping things to run smoothly. #participatetrchat
We have a printable copy for you and anyone else that's interested in it in the classroom management collection!! We'll share it at the end of the chat! #participatetrchat
A1: For dismissal they sit quietly and watch the tv with the bus arrivals. The last thing I want is for one of my students to miss the bus 🤣😆#participatetrchat
A2 Katie shared how she has established jobs in the classroom. For those of you who use this procedure, do you assign job to each student or do they earn them? Rotate them? How? #participatetrchat
Q2: It depends on the tasks. Sometimes I’ll ask for volunteers and other times I’ll make the decision so that the same group of students aren’t doing the same task for the entire year #participatetrchat
A2: Giving students responsibly for themselves as well as small tasks around the classroom can engage them and improve their focus while also helping you so you don't have to do everything! I.E. cleaning up activities or handing out papers #participateTRchat
A2: I assign roles but change regularly sometimes based on behaviour because this helps to keep Kindergarteners quiet. It also gives a measure of fairness to the process. It's like "I am responsible for what I am chosen to do and when I am chosen." #participatetrchat
A2: It’s also kinda cool to attach rewards to some of the jobs. Eg one of my students volunteered to vacuum the room daily. His daily reward for doing this is 15 minutes on cool math or https://t.co/yFAEfc9eHO ...now everyone wants to vacuum 😆#participatetrchat
A1: students create their own classroom rules then sign a contract that is placed in their data notebooks and we revisit this contract occasionally or every semester. Ss tend to abide by the rules more when they have a say in it. #participatetrchat
