Do you dare to go out?
Q1 - How will you "go out" and connect with new people or others in your building that you may not typically work with?
#champforkids
A1: by taking the time to visit with them during lunch or brunch, or right after their last class. Sometimes inviting them to have lunch with you works, sometimes it's just too hectic. #champforkids
A1: In order to be a #champforkids I need to connect with people who will challenge, inspire & support me in taking risks & stepping out of my comfort zone. I want to connect with educators that are willing to collaborate to help all of our Ss. Social media will be helpful.
A1: Our workdays are about to start up. I plan to grab lunch and stop by rooms to chat with some teachers that I don't usually get to work with and build those connections and help new teachers feel welcomed. #champforkids

Q1 - How will you "go out" and connect with new people or others in your building that you may not typically work with?
#champforkids
A1) I would love to be able to work with more teachers and have our Ss collaborate. I have done a lot with 3rd grade but I would love my Ss to work with 4th grade and younger grades or reach out and connect with 6thgrade at the middle school #champforkids
A1 being the #physed teacher I am lucky to see all classes in the school so I can collaborate with classroom teachers to find ways to integrate their objectives into my curriculum to help them out #champforkids
A1: It's all about finding those people "hiding in plain sight". Be intentional. Don't wait for them to pursue you; it is on us to take the first step, initiate the conversation, and bring the first ideas. #champforkids
A1: Greeting every new teacher in their classroom during work week, offering to join for lunch during workdays, & check on them during 1st few weeks of school year. #champforkids
A1. Sheesh, being at a new school is going to be a year full of “going out” or needing to go home! I am trying to psych myself out to come in with the same energy as I developed at my wonderful old school and bring the ruckus! #champforkids

A1~invite them in to chat in am, make a purposeful effort to check in on them throughout the week, month, year & genuinely extend the olive branch of collegiality & friendship. Maybe go for a walk during prep w/them or during a quick lunch break just to chat 😊
#champforkids
A1) I am going to try to make it a point to build relationships within the building and leave happy notes for others as well as trying to connect and share with others around the world!
#champforkids
A1. This year I'll be going out to visit people all over the building. The ones that I will work with on a constant basis and the ones I don't see as often will definitely see me! My plan is to be out and about as much as I can. #champforkids
A1: The last 2 years I have stepped out of my comfort zone a lot! I didn’t share as much because I really didn’t know how all of the new things I was trying would go over. This year my goal is to reach out more to others in my building. #champforkids
A1: Start right out with a tough question for me-I don't like stepping out of my comfort circle. This year our school will be participating in county wide PD-3 schools and I am sure I will have to be grouped with others and do more than "smile and wave." #champforkids
A1 Excited! 2nd year of #coffeeEDUs, more conference presentations, hoping for INSPIRATIONAL meetings, aaand Sept 4 is the first #PLNedchat! It will be slightly different (!) & we're super excited! Hope you'll join us! @TobiaBrooke@PBarachkov Reminder? Text "@PLNedchat" to 81010
A1- Every T has their own strengths so I try and connect with them about those- I ask our Grade 6 T about sports, our K T about art, our Grade 4 T about book clubs, etc. #champforkids
Hey #champforkids family! Sorry can’t make the chat tonight. Eating dinner with fam. On vaca🏖😎☀️ enjoying my fam,the beach & Go-carts!!! Will look thru tonight & respond;)
My goal this year is to visit 5 classrooms to say good morning each day after the Morning bell! I want the Ss to see my face and here a “good morning”! This classroom visit is purely to say good morning! Want to also share books I’ve read this summer! #champforkids
A1: As a new teacher, everything is new to me. I plan on connecting with the teachers near me and working hard to build that positive relationship while also showing that I appreciate them and the work that they do. #champforkids
A2 Limiting potential?! Nooooo!! Actually I just saw, no, WROTE! an article about it! :) We limit learning: content, skills, confidence, experience, risk-taking, everything! And it causes our own burn out! Avoid limiting our own potential, too! #champforkids
A1: Hi! My name is Jennifer and I am a 3rd grade ELA teacher in Texas.#edt5335#champforkids
Sometimes just a friendly smile and a drop by their room is all it takes to open the door of communication and support.
A1: encourage wonder by connecting personal interests to objects, targets, lessons, and exploration. Then enhance it by encouraging them to share, document, and explore based on their interests. #champforkids
A2: If we allow doubt to keep us from "stepping out" we're eliminating possible opportunities & experiences for ourselves & our Ss. We need to be willing to think outside of the box for the benefit of all-it may be uncomfortable or unknown but it WILL be worth it! #champforkids
A2: Your lessons may become stagnant and you will miss a wealth of information and new thoughts and activities for your students. Plus if you want your students to be collaborative, you need to model being collaborative. #champforkids
A2: Safety is the enemy of change. When we place safe bets and make low-risk investments, the payoff is weak. If we desire to see change, and long for more in life, we need to leave the comfort of the status quo. #champforkids
A2: If I never took the leap and ventured into the edu Twitter world, my life would be vastly different. If we stay in, we stop providing opportunities for our Ss that could be vastly relevant to their lives. How do we expect our Ss to take chances if we don't? #champforkids
A2: I firmly believe the best form of PD is to observe other Ts! Visiting classrooms during my planning & encouraging others to visit mine. Visiting other classes shows Ss that I'm interested in a variety of subjects. #champforkids
A2 #champforkids I get so many ideas for my Ss, as well as connect with authors for school visits using @twitter and create planning boards on @Pinterest - I’m willing to give ideas, not just take them!
Sorry I can’t make it tonight. Coming back from Open House for 7th graders - it’s great to meet and greet and get back into school mode. Join me this Thursday as I host #waledchat and we discuss lessons. https://t.co/Bmx9boUhWo#champforkids
A1: go out and connect with lunch groups, grade level meetings, and social events. Also visit classrooms to help support teachers in all classrooms or invite them to visit you! #champforkids
A2- I teach in a small school in a small town. I want to dissolve our classroom walls and show my Ss the magic that is theirs for the taking. That can't happen if I'm afraid to trying new things or making new connections. #champforkids
A2: Safety is the enemy of change. When we place safe bets and make low-risk investments, the payoff is weak. If we desire to see change, and long for more in life, we need to leave the comfort of the status quo. #champforkids
A2 as teachers we need to show our Ss that thinking out of the box and taking risks is important to get the most out of it. Ss will follow our lead and will not be afraid to reach their full potential by taking risks and thinking outside of the box #champforkids
A1: With the majority of our staff being new this year, I feel like it is very important to make everyone feel like part of the family. I will be intentional about speaking to and sharing ideas with other Ts from other parts of the school. #champforkids
A2: Sometimes when I hear other tt complain about ss, I walk away. What if I gave a positive story to that tt instead? Limiting my own because there are tons of diff ideas out there. If others don’t agree with us, we get to hear diff perspectives... #champforkids
A2. I feel like when the kids see communication and community modeled, they feel more comfortable reaching out to each other and staff as well. It makes the all around environment safer to spread out and belong #champforkids
A2: I think sometimes as T we are afraid to ask for help from another T.,but we need to remember that the most important thing is doing what’s best for kids. Other T are the best resources we have. “When we know better we do better.” #champforkids
Hey there #champforkids friends! Matt here, author of Ditch That Textbook and believer in being a champ for kids!
Just wanted to pop in and say hi and that you're in good hands with @CristinaDajero, @khoggardGRT et al! Have a great school year!
A2: Also, I believe helping other Ts w/ new strategies makes a positive impact on their Ss education and that is a bigger impact I can make than just staying in my room. #champforkids
Agreed! Ts must set an example and so that while not all risks pay off, few breakthroughs and innovation have come by doing things the way they've always been done. #champforkids
A2: If I never took the leap and ventured into the edu Twitter world, my life would be vastly different. If we stay in, we stop providing opportunities for our Ss that could be vastly relevant to their lives. How do we expect our Ss to take chances if we don't? #champforkids
A2. My job is to support teachers so that Ss can receive the best education possible. By staying in my office, I'm doing nothing in order to help teachers and students. It sounds like "staying in" is a lose-lose situation. #champforkids
A2: We also have to go in being gentle with ourselves...e.g. not beating ourselves up for not thinking of something that a colleague is doing particularly well. #champforkids
A2: we are increasing weekly PD...,BUT... focus on building T relationships more than just content and data! When we get out and celebrate we get more smiles and more effort!!! It’s waaay more fun together!!!! 👍🏼🌟🤩🤷🏼♀️👍🏼 #champforkids
A2: staying in keeps us closed off. An open mind and a small journey can make a huge difference in teachers, Ss and our day while creating lots of opportunity to learn from and share with others. #champforkids#champforkids
As a new teacher and spending the past few days setting up my classroom, i am so thankful for my #PLN who push me and inspire me to be better than I was the day before. Much love to all of you. #champforkids
A2: Kids are changing. Families are changing. We owe it to our kids to be able to provide learning situations that will prepare them, moving forward. #champforkids
A3 Literally and digitally! I'm determined to be outside as often as possible, plus field trips, other learning spaces. Trading student blogs with other classes, if anyone's interested!!! #champforkids
A2: By "staying in" we are not venturing out to try new ideas and learn new techniques and tricks from others. If we want our students to never stop learning, we should model the same! #champforkids
Absolutely. I'm hoping our school can adopt something like a pineapple chart and we can all find times to invite other Ts to come in and explore the different learning environments in our building! #champforkids
A2: With resources like Skype, Google Hangouts, etc, there is no reason why we should be staying in. Some of these kids don't get a chance to see outside their neighborhood and technology helps change that for them. #edt5335#champforkids
Most kids don't know me as a teacher until Junior year, but they do know me as the"crazy lady" (their words) who says hi to everyone in the hallway! #champforkids
A3: Encourage, support & inspire my Ss to take risks that will help them see how amazing they are & through grit & having a growth mindset, they can accomplish things they once thought were impossible. I want to discuss what they'd like to achieve & help them do so. #champforkids
A1 The beginning of the year is great for connecting with colleagues because we have time to go out and have a real lunch. We also usually have team building activities as part of inservice week, and our groups are predetermined. Good for working with new people. #champforkids
A3: As a new teacher, I want to collaborate with other teachers via flipgrid and try out mystery skype. I want my Ss to see that more exists beyond the four walls of my classroom, and I want them to leave my class feeling loved, supported, and well rounded. #champforkids
Q2 #ChampforKids We are taking the EXPERIENCES out of learning if we don't break down walls and allow Ss to experience authentic lessons and make connections with the outside world.
https://t.co/Swm2wsRUwP
A3~Read alouds with our first grade buddies, hopeful our new principal will love frequent visits from my littles & enjoy them sharing their hopes, dreams & fabulous work 😊
#champforkids
A3: I'm hoping to work w/ Ts to extend students collaboration globally through @Flipgrid, blogs, websites, class @Twitter, and more! Spread our kindness, passion, and positivity!
#champforkids
A3: by connecting with other grade levels through PBL, Passion Projects, reading/math buddies, connecting globally through Flipgrid, or connecting with professionals within the community. #champforkids
A3: constantly looking for ways to literally get them out of the school via trips, outdoor classroom, courtyard, etc. Digitally, we can do virtual field trips. I love using our @htcvive to experience the world through #VirtualReality#champforkids
A3 #champforkids We are soooo fortunate to have 1:1 technology. I would like to arrange some kind of connection through Google chat with another intervention group in our district, and discuss the same text!
A3: One way that I am really excited about is for my Cougar Focus English block (remediation block) to use @Flipgrid to be PenPals with @LBStrunk's 1st grade class and do read alouds for her students. #champforkids
A3: I am planning a lot of "out of the classroom" experiences for our Ss this year. The best learning is real-world learning & where else is better to do that? I see us going to the park, historical @NCBeaufort during Harvest time, seeing our state capital, etc. #champforkids
A3: I love for students to connect with other students from different parts of the world! There is so much to know, learn, and experience. #champforkids
A3: I’m hoping to host small group lunches and get the kids working together based on their needs between two classrooms. As GRT it would be easier to pull small groups from a couple rooms to get the kids around some kids they may not already know. #champforkids
A3: I stand by what I have been saying for years: We need to encourage our kids to walk into classrooms and demand items off of the "hidden menu". We cannot be content simply writing essays and constructing PowerPoints. We were made for more. #champforkids
A3: I love for students to connect with other students from different parts of the world! There is so much to know, learn, and experience. #champforkids
A3 I want to be able to really get my ss to take ownership of their learning and take what they learn in class and teach others outside of class about the importance of health and fitness. Hopefully they can teach their family members what they learned in class #champforkids
A3: The "out of the classroom" I want to focus on especially at the beginning of the year is more of a risk taking and growth mindset approach and helping my kids believe they deserve and can achieve it all. #champforkids
A3: I plan to continue doing more lessons in the @EMSMakerSpace & @EMSPOWERHOUSE. Would really ❤ to collab on lessons & projects w/ Ts from other subject areas. #champforkids
Some don’t know anything beyond their small town. Mine marvel when we take trips to Charlotte. Many of my Ss has never seen a city & we’re 30-45 min from multiple cities. #champforkids
We use periscope to broadcast live and invite family, friends, teachers and community members in to be our audience. Important to have more than just my eyes on it! #champforkids
A3: Ss can be out an about by using things like @Flipgrid , @Seesaw , Google classroom, Write About, etc. Not to mention that you can also share with teachers (and staff) all over the building! #champforkids
A3. MS kids are just starting to understand expanded time and future perspectives. I try to help them see that the world is bigger than their backyard by introducing careers, colleges, experiences, etc. — and see them as real possibilities for ALL students. #champforkids
All of my answers are yours for the taking. Just scribble my name off and put your own. Had a similar conversation about this with @GuysBride last week. #champforkids
Absolutely! I loved it and encouraged it when students came out with out-of-the-box project ideas! I loved it even more when they taught me how to do it!
#champforkids
A3: I stand by what I have been saying for years: We need to encourage our kids to walk into classrooms and demand items off of the "hidden menu". We cannot be content simply writing essays and constructing PowerPoints. We were made for more. #champforkids
A3- I want to help my students "go out" of the classroom this year with technology such as Google Hangouts and Flipgrid. I'd love to have my Ss share books they love with classes around the world. #edt5335#champforkids
A4 Experiential learning. We're going to be learning while doing this year! Excited to make novels' themes come alive, writing have purpose & impact, etc. #champforkids
A3: by creating a maker space!!!! Bringing more STEM activities to the classrooms!!! Celebrating the C’s... collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, communication!!!! #champforkids
I love that you are making their learning experience more enjoyable, Rachel! This is something that I am sure that they look forward to every day and something that they will never forget. #champforkids
A4: #champforkids I feel like I was hesitant about sharing my opinions. I am becoming more confident each day and realizing that what I want to share with others, people want to hear, like when I did an #edusations interview with @MrPStrunkhttps://t.co/Hr02Hd0D2o
Bonus: This year I will dare to be DETERMINED to not allow anyone or anything to keep me from meeting my goals or supporting my Ss & colleagues to achieve their goals. I will be ALL IN! #champforkids
A4) Connecting with others to share and learn. Jumping into the Twitter world has been a step out of my comfort zone, but I can't express how thankful I am that I began to make such powerful connections with such amazing and inspiring people!
#champforkids
A4: Mine is more personal than professional. My 11 yr old joined the county theater and was in Pirates of Penzance and Annie. He loves it, and I wish I had had his courage to do more when I was younger with theater and music. #champforkids
A4 the opportunity to learn from others. There are so many amazing resources around us and teachers willing to share and collaborate in order to help our students! By talking with others, visiting classrooms, and checking Twitter we can learn so much #champforkids
Hey there #champforkids friends! Matt here, author of Ditch That Textbook and believer in being a champ for kids!
Just wanted to pop in and say hi and that you're in good hands with @CristinaDajero, @khoggardGRT et al! Have a great school year!
Yes! Love this, Paul! I love these moments, but they are seedlings of relationships that need to be cultivated and cared for throughout the year. #champforkids
A4~
Great teaching & lots of laughter ... & also the opportunity to truly get to know others & all that they are-their strengths, challenges, vulnerabilities
Connection to others seems to make life so much more fulfilling & enlightening ❤️
#champforkids
Q4 I'm not good at the school spirit things. Not sure I can go there, even if I want to. #Champforkids but I will continue to celebrate when others do.
This year, I will dare to take a stand and push forward in order to be the best teacher I can be. I hope to lead by example and inspire others especially my Ss. #champforkids
A4: I want apps (that work) for my preschoolers!! When our district upgraded the iPads, the apps were no longer compatible.....even though I asked, time and time again, the apps were never upgraded or re-purchased. #champforkids
Jon from Irvine coiming in late. A3: Learners in my Religions class will not only visit a Hindu monastery together this year. They will also do individual visits of religious buildings and shrines as part of the curriculum. #champforkids
A4: I have missed out on collaboration opportunities when the workload begins to pile up during the school year. I will really try to stay ahead of the work this year in order not to miss out on collaboration & opportunities to build/nurture relationships w/ staff. #ChampForKids
A4. The hallways in MS are essential for intel and quick messaging/reminders for kids. Any time I miss a class change I feel like I miss opportunities (and make more work for myself if I’m being honest!) #champforkids
A4 I'm the teacher who eats alone at his desk because it is usually the only time I can catch up on the mountain of IEP paperwork that never subsides. As a result, I miss out on building relationships with others in the building. #champforkids
A4: Every T has their strengths. I think I have missed out on seeing other Ts strengths for myself by not asking to come in and watch.I learned so much from participating in Learning Walks this year and would like to continue to see all the great things T are doing. #champforkids
A4: I feel like I missed out on the amazing things that Twitter had to offer. I had an account but was never active until @RaeHughart inspired me. I am so thankful that I made that leap because my life has truly not been the same since. #champforkids
Bonus: This year I will dare to make sure that EVERY child feels valued and important in my classroom and feels empowered enough to be the leader of their own learning. #edt5335#champforkids
Bonus: This year I will embrace the change in our school and encourage my students to do the same as we all learn a different approach to our math lessons this year. #champforkids
A4: I used to watch the news by myself in my room during lunch. Quickest way to get depressed! Now I always eat in the staff lounge to hear the jokes and stories. #champforkids
Love @jmattmiller. I was blown away when he knew my name last week at Edcamp Flipgrid. We were walking upstairs + he was like, "Hey Mike! How's it going?" He knows everyone...but he remembered my name! Think, we have this same power w/in our own schools. Use it. #champforkids
In reply to
@khoggardGRT, @jmattmiller, @CristinaDajero, @jmattmiller
This year I will dare to be the best for my students all day everyday! My students deserve 110% from me everyday. I will be mindful not to let my personal life enter my classroom. #ALLIN#ForTheKids#ChampForKids
This is incredibly insightful and honest!!! Thank you, being that brave just shows how much you care and how well you will rock the year! #ChampforKids
A4: If I had to say I missed out on something last year, it would probably be to enjoy more and stress less. Sometimes I rob myself of great moments, and I need to remember to be present in the moment and not miss out on a single one. #edt5335#champforkids
Bonus: This year I will dare to service as many Ts, Ss, and staff members as possible...also looking to venture into partnerships with other/feeder schools #champforkids
A4: The wealth of intelligence, resources, friendships beyond the walls of my building. I have cultivated so many relationships with people that I may never meet IRL, but this is hallmark of their impact: They have made me a better teacher, dad, leader, and person. #champforkids
Bonus- this year I will stop and take in all of the energy, effort, and awesome stuff happening in the hallways and classrooms. I really want to stay present, even on the overwhelming days. #ChampforKids
Thank you @khoggardGRT for an awesome #ChampForKids chat tonight!!! Thank you for challenging me to think of ways that I will DARE to step out this school year!!
Hey everyone! I know I missed the chat, but I am going to play catch up. Lost track of time. Haha. Edwin. 3rd grade teacher in Philadelphia. Will be starting my 2nd of teaching in a few weeks. #champforkids#iTeach3rd#PhillyEducator
