As a teacher, its important that you love your students. It doesn't matter if they love you, though. Your emotional fulfillment or validation should not come from them. That's why its so important to do your own self-work. #hiphoped

So much of what passes for love is not actually love but trauma that we've internalized, survived but never healed from, and passed on. We have to be honest about all this if we're going to decolonize love. #hiphoped

As a student you don’t want to learn the same lesson over and over so as a teacher who loves teaching you shouldn’t teach the same lesson the same way over and over either #HipHopEd

Love in THIS,our reality also requires expectations & agreed upon shared understandings..w/ inherent power dynamics that seek not to punish but to edify/educate both parties/roles #HipHopEd

Address problematic practices in your school, in your colleagues classrooms and offices, even if it makes you uncomfortable. You don’t love your students if you consistently send them into hostile environments #HipHopEd

Would you consider a love relationship healthy if your partner only wanted to know just a part of you? How many teachers only want to know the part of the students that they can see and teach? #HipHopEd

This is everything Tim. Just discussed this w/my Dean last week. He’s trying to control students, I’m challenging him to teach and support them in self-regulation/controlling themselves. #HipHopEd

A teacher's "love for learning" is not only about learning from peers or a book, the students you engage on a daily basis have a lot to us as well. #HipHopEd #respecttheirknowing

Nurturing growth is ideally why we are motivated to teach. However nurturing growth is very different from forcing results. Schools too often opt for the latter. #HipHopEd

I like that you included love of subject. So many teachers have a basic understanding of the subject they teach, with no willingness to explore at a higher level. Love of subject means you maintain a passion & curiosity that you can share with students #HipHopEd

The most memorable teachers I had are memorable not for the love they had for me but for the LOVE they had for the subject they taught. As a kid I just remembered their passion! If they were taught to properly engage the kids & share that love #ItCouldBeABeautifulThing #HipHopEd

The Love that we share for teaching and engaging our students should have room to be challenged and grow. It shouldn't be relegated to who we deem as the 'good' students or professed solely when receiving praise/awards #HipHopEd

An essential precursor to Love is the ‘like’. Hip Hop Educators should actually be people who LIKE children as people and possess a repertoire of tools that can aid and support a child’s journey. #HipHopEd
