#K12ArtChat is an #ArtsEd chat that happens every Thurs 8:30 pm CST founded by #TeamGrundler @ArtGuy76 & @GrundlerArt & share Ss' art on Fridays via #FabArtsFri.
Q1: Are you Participating in or have you completed a Creative Sprint 30-DayChallenge or another daily practice challenge? (Share link so we check it out!) #K12ArtChat
Hi! I'm Holly from Virginia ... we are in our "testing zone" & im happy to keep the art room a street free zone for our kiddos. Creativity is key! #K12ArtChat
A1 I have followed a daily painting practice personally - on and off - for about 5 years! I used to post regularly on my website but have gotten a little lazy lately. #k12ArtChathttps://t.co/GxyGfombgI
A1: I have not done an entire Sprint yet, but I have some of the Every Day Drawing Challenge by @MonaLisaLvsHeah I hope to get myself into it this summer and make it part of my practice #K12ArtChat
SEEING CLEARLY: Two former college classmates are giving back to the community of Flint, Michigan, by designing eyewear made from recycled water bottles discarded during the water crisis in the city. @DavidMuir reports. #MadeInAmericahttps://t.co/NhuPzCNm9y

A1. This is the first time we are hearing about Creative Sprint! What's it about?
We do have weekly tasks that we take up on a personal level in the team to keep ourselves engaged and work on something new when we can! #k12ArtChat

A2: I'm working hard on carving out journal time- my goal is a page a day and then sharing my process. It's whatever I'm thinking or feeling and if I'm stuck I lean on challenges like #creativesprint#K12ArtChat
A2 I know that artmaking - as close to daily as possible - helps keep me excited about art teaching & helps calm my very active mind. I have a home studio & I drink my ☕️there every morning - even if I don’t paint, it helps me to start the day right #K12ArtChat
A2: I am not always the best at finding the balance. Sometimes, it just falls off the radar. Unless I am making my own project for the classroom. Then I work in our studio at home. #K12ArtChat
A2 making time for our wn creative moments is very important but a constant struggle in our push to help others while balancing the demands of family, work, society and our own expectations. I try to go be myself a quick "creative break" of 15min each day. #K12ArtChat

#K12ArtChat A2...with three young kids and school it is hard to find that time for your own art outlet. I enjoy working with glass and work in a sketchbook when I can.
#K12ArtChat A1/A2: To give you some background, our work as creative consultants grew out of my project Skull-A-Day, which I made as a means of getting out of my own professional creative rut: https://t.co/JPIncRDyCi.
A2 part 2 - I find that giving myself assignments helps focus my artmaking and ensures that I’ll get to work regularly. I like to pick a number and paint something until I hit that number #K12ArtChat#36tinylandscapes#practicewhatyouteach

A2. It's important to allocate each task to a single day instead of trying to handle several things, all at once. It helps in organization and keeping track of pending and completed tasks. #k12ArtChat
A3 Last year our 3woman art dept designed a daily prompt-based lesson around the #ChrisVanAlsberg book #TheMysteriousHarrisBurdick for #crockettart 8th graders. We used the words from each illustration but didn’t show the students the actual illustrations. Very fun! #K12ArtChat
A3 many times students find playing with new media or techniques is a wonderful creative boost. I try to have a variety of options for students to explore in our studio. Art games, big idea prompts etc #k12artchat
#K12ArtChat A2 This can be SO hard. I have made my practice first thing in the morning typically a #CreativeSprint prompt or collaging & on subway rides I try to draw instead of look at my phone!
A2 Balance is always an issue. I have notebooks all around me and my iPhone close by to take photos of what I see that is either the ordinary or unique to inspire me to create. #K12ArtChat

#K12ArtChat A3...I have sketchbooks for 3rd to 5th...one of my students favorites is starting from a single shape and create something with it. Always neat to see the different ideas come alive!
Q4: 3 Rules for a Creative Sprint: Make, Share & Reflect (Repeat). Sharing is the hardest for many people. How do you help Ss get over fear of sharing their work? #K12ArtChat

Q4: 3 Rules for a Creative Sprint: Make, Share & Reflect (Repeat). Sharing is the hardest for many people. How do you help Ss get over fear of sharing their work? #K12ArtChat
A4: When I was teaching I shared my sketchbooks with my students it got easier over time and now I suppose it's become a habit. Why make art if not to share and allow others to view it. #K12ArtChat
A4: I do a lot of projects that require feedback from peers. (Like gallery walks, ask 2 then me & mid process showings) They are starting to see the importance, that it is not a bad things to fix somethings. #K12ArtChat#TinyHomes (4th Graders)
A4 I think social media has taken some of the fear out of sharing creative work for all artists - regardless of age. Many Ss see artists using @instagram which helps model the sharing behavior. It’s still hard for Ss to share artwork in person though! #k12ArtChat
A4 Ts who offer classrooms built on cultures of trust and engagement make it easier for Ss to share their work. Collaborative protocols help as well. #K12ArtChat
A4 PBL & Reflective/collaborative protocols allow students to feel that their voice is being listened to and honored, Matt. Your children look like they are enjoying the peer process #K12ArtChat
A3 my favorite art prompt for 7th grade students on the first day is “draw your family......draw them as if they are all robots!” Use things they like to design each robot. It tells me a little about each Ss.#k12ArtChat
A3. We haven't been working with a class yet, but we will be soon! What are some prompts that teachers use which are particularly inexpensive and effective? #k12ArtChat
My students love to get positive praises on their artistic efforts. I post images on #iG & they love to be "featured. We also stop & share/do reflection on progress. #K12ArtChat
#K12ArtChat I usually start out with a ss volunteering to draw something they are comfortable with on the document camera and build up that self esteem. Shortly after, they all put their finished art under the document camera for everyone to see on the smart board. Baby steps
#k12artchat A4: One of my favorite things to do at my talks is require people to collaborate on making a face with whatever materials are in their pockets/bags in 2 minutes. Timed public making encourages everyone to participate even if they're afraid!
A3: Sometimes I use prompts! My favorite thing to do is ask them questions like "what does blue sound like?" or "If you were a car what kind would you be?" I like getting their minds going! before we start working on a project! #K12ArtChat
#K12ArtChat A4 Ss use a 2 Stars and a Wish process w/ a partner towards end of project. Focus on two strong parts of the peice and then give an idea to add to it to push the piece to the next level. When Ss hear what is good Ss are open to other suggestions.

#k12artchat Sadly my college students were more afraid to share on social media because of their carefully crafted personas there. Many started new IG profiles to share work they weren't 100% confident about.

Thanks #K12ArtChat is ArtLady has an early morning with testing. Glad I could join in for a few! Thanks to our hosts & I will catch up tomorrow! Goodnight!
A5: I talk with them and we get deeper into their artist block. They can get permission to do their own #gallerywalk to see what others are doing so that can help them brew up their own creative solutions #k12artchat
A5 we have iPads in the room for researching images but I encourage the Ss strongly to use the images for inspiration - not to copy! It’s hard to unstick the kids sometimes, but I try to be a little silly and show them that all ideas are valid to think through #k12artchat
A4 Having an art gallery for my Moving Masterpieces has taken away a lot of fear. Having opening show refreshments and administrators and other teachers visit really boost their confidence. Other classes want to share their work. #K12ArtChat
A4. Simply allow them to work in a space where their work is visible to everyone in the classroom. Given the right direction, students will not just understand that they can share their ideas easily but will also help other students in their creative pursuit. :) #K12ArtChat
That's a great idea! When I was a fourth grade teacher we used the illustrations from Harris Burdick as writing prompts/motivators. Fantastic, creative stories were generated from them! I see a collaboration opportunity here with art and ELA #K12ArtChat
#K12ArtChat A5...some of my students do great being able to look at pictures for inspiration, looking up photos on the IPads, being able to collaborate with others in class...it is great to bounce ideas off each other. Love to see Ss talk out their ideas!
#K12ArtChat A-5 Depends on the grade. Typically I sit down by the student and ask a series of questions & begin to give ideas based upon the answers they give. If that doesn’t help (99% it does) then I have them walk around & see what others are doing. No copying, just ideas.

Thanks @NoahScalin@micawave and Team Grundler for another #k12artchat! Doing things a little out of order, how about my intro at the end - I’m Julia Forsyth, the @BurksElementary k-5 art teacher. Have a great night!
A5. Post-It notes! Our editor, @_armedwithabook used them in her classroom when she was a TA in grad school for clarifying doubts and allowing students to interact with the teacher as much as possible. #K12ArtChat
