#ALedchat Archive
#ALedchat is a weekly chat on Twitter about education topics. It is held each Monday from 9-10pmCST. While the discussion on #ALedchat continues on Twitter well beyond our weekly one-hour chat session, this platform affords us the opportunity to extend, expand and share the conversation with an even greater audience. Educators from across the state of Alabama, and the world, can come here to find encouragement, support, resources, professional growth opportunities and advice, while providing the same to their colleagues.

A5: Use the past to encourage the present and change the future!
A4: finishing what you start gives you & others drive, motivation, and pride to continue & do even better the next time
A5: my Ts & Ss deserve better resources than they have had in the past
A5:Reflecting/learning from our failures is part of the growth process. Ss deserve a passionate voice in their corner pushing them
once you quit on something you can quit on anything. NEVER QUIT!
A5 Failure helps us to grow. We need that motivation to be better and the opportunity to continue to model for our students.
A5: We have learned from those failures & that has taught us to succeed. Can't miss the opp. to learn from it.
A5: Now we know what NOT to do. We are better after failure as much as we are after success.
A5 Because through purposeful reflection on the failures, we have learned lessons that we can apply to later experiences
A5 Because I'm a connected educator. With my tribe, I can do it all. I will fall but they will raise me up https://t.co/0kGb1vZaYU
Q5 We have all failed before. Why will you finish strong this year where we failed in the past? https://t.co/mOaccE4aaK
A3: proud of how our grade level created thematic units and used , the S's projects were terrific!
A5 students need to know they matter. When we count down do we send the wrong message? Guilty of this.
A5 How can we expect our students to learn from their mistakes if we don't? That is the perfect chance to lead and model.
A5 I have learned to apply mindfulness strategies to my work. I can "surf" above it all when necessary... https://t.co/0kGb1vZaYU

A5 students need to know they matter. When we count down do we send the wrong message? Guilty of this.
. Yes! It also means we tried something new. As long as it's in the best interest of Ts or Ss...it's all good!
A5: Hope is the champion over fear. Quitting is a result of fear. Hope helps you persist!
A5 My motivation to finish strong is my Ss. If I fail to do my best they are the ones affected They depend on me to give it my all

Totally agree, Char. I'm so sorry for your loss.
I don't think so.It creates a sense of urgency & helps people to appreciate the time left.
Question 6 coming up in 1 min
Lots of special kids & Ts & community members reaching out to support the family. The other side of education.
A5: Because as teachers we go the distance--we never give up, ever!
I often see anxious Ss in our bld when we count down to summer. School is their safe place. We must think about our Ss.
Q6 What are some barriers (old or new) that are keeping you from finishing strong this May? https://t.co/aQVE3eTePA
counting down makes others thinkyou are excited about leaving them. I never liked the end of a year, actually sad.
A6: The end can be overwhelming if we let it. We have to stay organized and on task to finish strong.
A5: use mistakes & failures to make improvements for the future
A6: Negativity and reluctance from colleagues. Have to continue to model positive relationships and hope something sticks!
A6: It's hard to break the testing=teaching is over mindset!
A6 Warmer weather in a non-air conditioned bld. We must find learning activities that allow students to go outside.
Agreed. Took Sophs out today for class..they LOVED it!
Have to run. Thanks for a great chat and the motivation to finish strong.
A6: It always comes down to fear. of failure. of making a mistake. of not finishing. of not being enough.
A5: Reflection at end of year is like searching for beach glass - find ideas that were jagged, & are now polished & worth keeping
A6:The end of the year becomes chaotic w/ so many activities. It is easy to get overwhelmed trying to devote enough time to it all.
A8 I must admit I hate "movie reward" days. I think our learning activities can be more fun than a movie! Must change this mindset
A6: Nothing's going to stop me this May! I'm going to bring it! Who's in??!?
So many interruptions to teaching.. Assemblies, testing, etc. Kids out of routine=hard to concentrate on learning.
A6: The OLD me vs. the NEW me... In a constant state of growth. Sometimes the OLD me still wins out.
Glad you joined us tonight!
I am ALL in! Bringin' my A game to May! https://t.co/mc5ugIl9HT
A6: Nothing's going to stop me this May! I'm going to bring it! Who's in??!?
A6: letting people end quietly and allowing them to be small makes for a weak finish--the end should be big and loud...and joyful
UGH! Me, too, Becky!?!! Who wants their children to come home from school & when asked what they (1 of 2) https://t.co/17ZtvFlRjQ
A8 I must admit I hate "movie reward" days. I think our learning activities can be more fun than a movie! Must change this mindset
Jacob was Israel but he was both and all throughout his life, even until the end. the struggle is real https://t.co/rkSvIRguIz
A6: The OLD me vs. the NEW me... In a constant state of growth. Sometimes the OLD me still wins out.
Agreed. This is a challenge throughout our educational system. Why are so many people resistant to change? https://t.co/LA0dKvZwCG
A6: getting others motivated & on board to work as one collective unit working toward the same goal
(2 of 2) did all day, the child says, "Watched movies."
A6 overwhelmed! At times I feel I loose sight of the important things! I need to remind myself little things are not mountains!
A6: Ss and Ts are overwhelmed by the big picture of finishing and can forget to focus on life one day at a time.
A6: S's are excited by the prospect of something new... Summer. Well, give them something new before they go... Use a new tech!
Question 7 coming up in 1 min
YES!!!!!!!!! Let's do this!!
Awesome!!! Let's do this!!
Russ, FL principal, just jumping in. A6: Must organize, communicate. Now it's all scheduled I know to take it a week at a time.

Q7 We scaffold when the task is difficult. What are some scaffolding techniques used to finish strong? https://t.co/oDccJ0eliM
Glad you stopped by! Any time is a good time to learn!
Yep! There's only one way to eat an elephant... one bite at a time!
Hey Jen! Hope all is well.
Looking forward to watching it!
A7: Finishing strong requires planning, planning, & more planning! Know the tasks at hand & prioritize.
A7: Give Ss choice in how to show what they know. Offer organizational tools like graphic organizers to help plan their thinking.
A7 Brain breaks are important. Don't get stuck in the day to day rut! Be spontaneous, get Ss moving and engaged!
A7: Break it down into small, attainable goals that we can reach and that serves to motivate us. Keep the focus where it belongs.
A7: Meditate & write in gratitude journal. Helps me get focus on the day/moment/action.
A7: take a breath, one day at s time, focus on the mission and end goal
A7 Sometimes you have to be willing to take a small victory instead of consdering a partial win as a failure.
A7 Communication with Ss! They need to know that their feedback is important. What's a scaffold without the Ss?
