Mathew Bennett, OL coach/Run Game Coordinator at Woodmont High School in Greenville SC. Glad to be hear, working on a paper for online class, doing the chat and watching the HR Derby #Hogfbchat
Nick Stromeyer. OL Coach and social media graphics dude at Allen Academy. Last week of strength and conditioning this week. August 1st will be here soon enough! #HOGFBCHAT#6manfbchat
Currently in Norfolk, Va for a Military Training. Any of my #hogfbchat brothers in the Area want to meet up and talk ball? I’m here for the next 11 days
A1. Blocking power and slipping center and bst out on rocket. Can run power read and throw rocket instead of qb running the ball on keep read #hogfbchat
A1: in my OL role I love all screens because it takes some pressure off and allows our guys to get out and run. In my DC role...not so much. #hogfbchat
A1- we call it bronco, it’s RB slip screen. Had a coach at UCM team camp say we run the best damn screens he’s ever seen. Lineman love it because it’s a cleanup hitter screen. #hogfbchat
A1: If we are being honest My favorite screen plan is when the Left tackle is an eligible reciever and we throw that big boy the ball coming off screen and watch the bi boy rumble. An example is when Ol Miss ran is with Laremy Tunsil #hogfbchat
A1: Sweep screen. Runningback pretends to take the handoff, QB goes the other way turns around and passes back to the runningback. If You're lucky the only one left to block is a cornerback and... uh... things don't always work out for Him. #hogfbchat
A1: tunnel screen or middle screen depends on the day you ask me. Love tunnel to a single receiver side if tackles are athletic. Middle screen was very good to us in the past #Hogfbchat
A1) we ran a dual screen. RB swing to one side w/the RT/RG and tunnel screen to the left w/the LG/C. LT stayed man on. QB reads the DE to the swing side; if he rushes throw to RB; if he peels, throw the tunnel. #hogfbchat
A1. L screen at 0. Or ghetto screen as it's called. Wing lt formation block a 2 count and everyone release to second level, left hb sets up behind center. #hogfbchat
A1: TB Slow Screen or Tunnel Screen off 1 Back Power. USC used to run a Spider screen to Reggie Bush that is probably my all-time favorite. Could never quite time it up like them...or have Reggie Bush. #hogfbchat
A1: throwback screens (naked throwback or rollout throwback) are always fun cause it forces defenses to be disciplined. Unfortunately you need a very disciplined defense and it has to be early in the game where they are fresh enough to change direction and pursue #Hogfbchat
A2: I have found success in a well planned Walk thru. This allows the offensive lineman to mentally walk through where they are going and timing. It also gives them visual landmarks on where they need to get too #hogfbchat
A2) I line up stand up dummies and have players set the time limit then work to the dummy and run through (want to explode through contact, not just get there) the dummies, once mastered I use other players. #hogfbchat
A2: Sell the set (major key). Run to landmarks, throw on bags *with proper head placement.* In OK we can't cut beyond the line so we put our head on the hip and run. #HogFbChat
A2: It’s basically half line. We’ll screen right, as soon as they run the play the subs will fill right side and we have the left side of the offense run the screen left. Bounce back and forth. Tons of reps. We will also work screen drill during OL INDY. #hogfbchat
A2- for me, my best drill is running the screen during screen period. We condition in position groups, so I tell them for every CLEAN pancake I will take 1 rep off conditioning. You’d be surprised how hard they work to get them. Transition to game is flawless #hogfbchat
A2: setting up guys with shields on landmarks. Gives guys moving targets instead of the traditional trashcans. Trashcans are ok for offseason install but once practice starts, I like to see my guys getting on bodies #Hogfbchat
A2: Just practicing against the second team, it's nice when it actually catches the defense off guard. Feels like a real experience.
Alternatively 2 pulling linemen vs 2 linebackers and runningback behind pullers, teaches You angles and reading Your partner. #hogfbchat
A2: Tempo Screen Period on Air or Coaches. I like to do this 3x per week. Just reps, reps, reps...and doing it when OL gets tired. 5 minutes per day, 15 minutes per week. #hogfbchat
A2. Usually work it in team, not a big screen team, will try and run it several times but some scout team dl always ends up just standing there and blowing it up. HC gets mad and flips it, we move on. Run it in game for 30 yard gain. That's our screen drill. #hogfbchat
A2:Screen period in script. Whatever the screen we are running that week we rep in a quick tempo on air first, then bags as the look. Half-line drill with live bodies. We block in this order. 1st we whip air’s butt, then we whip dummies, then finally moving bodies. #hogfbchat
A2: I think your drills come down to what you do as an offense. We love screens so screen drills are apart of the practice plan, just like mesh drills. If you don’t run a lot of screen game, you probably just knock them out in Team period. #hogfbchat
A2: kill two birds with one stone. We use a double team drill with two LBs. Forces them to both use gallop steps and then they both come off and get to the second levels. Their release is quicker obviously. Looks the same to defense. #HogFbChat
A3: boundary screens are always mingled in, especially after a long successful pass.... Mingle the others in as you lull them to sleep to keep them honest #Hogfbchat
A3- Id say we run it 5-8 times a game. I’d say in the 6 years I’ve been coaching at Scott City, it’s been our best “pass” as far as scoring touchdowns! I’d guess we are 12-15 tds on screens alone. Big play for us #hogfbchat
A3. I’m gonna he honest. I like draws better, but bubbles off of IZ are a staple of our offense. Also do like a middle screen every now and again to keep a defense honest. #HogFbChat
A2 set up players holding blocking dummies downfield. Have them block for a couple counts then release. Have the players holding dummies moving around to give a live look #HOGFBCHAT
A3: We increased our # if screens we ran throughout the season. Also made for a great adjustment when teams would send auto blitz in empty. We’ll run them on any down also. Love them on 1st downs or to start a series. Catch aggressive DL off guard. #hogfbchat
A3 I'd like to go into a game thinking we can run a screen at least 2 or 3 times. Depends on the defense and what works. I don't want to force a screen just for the sake of it. #HOGFBCHAT
A3: when we were in the spread at my former stops, a good bit. We were big on taking what was giving to us. Currently in the split back veer where our screens are much more gameplanned and not as frequent #Hogfbchat
A3: actually planned screens? Maybe 4-6 times. If we're including a pre-snap bubble calls between the Q and WR based on what the defense has given us? Too many #hogfbchat
A3: Love the change up. A lot of factors. Do we want to get their front 6/7 running sideline to sideline? Are they teeing off on their rush? Etc...
#hogfbchat
A3: Good question. New staff this year so I will have to let u know next year. But my philosophy has been and will always be “If ain’t broke, don’t fix it” #hogfbchat
A4- Screen period. Dedicate 5 minute per day all 3 days. Get 15 minutes and put some reward on it so they work hard on it. If it’s important to you you’ll practice it. That’s why we are successful at it. #hogfbchat
Jail/tunnel screen to the slot, he pushes out 3 steps like a arrow route then retraces his steps back in. All these quarters safeties fly out over 1 with flat being threatened. Nobody to stop him after T kicks alley, G seals 1lb and c blocks end or chaser. #HogFbChat
A4: have to try and work it once a week in individual or squeeze it in during pre practice. If you’re fortunate to have all your football kids in PE Football class, that’s the best time to work that in my opinion #Hogfbchat
A2: Land marks on air. Landmarks to a location (trash cans, cones). Landmarks to moving dummies.
The release is crucial. Gotta work Screen releases to a live look every week. Whether it’s punch & shed or Kreutz & getting out to a moving target.
#hogfbchat
A4. Not a screen drill per say but we always drill a blocking in space drill esp for getting to second level on some of our run schemes. The old 5x5 yard box. Ol has to block the Def out of the box. #hogfbchat
A4) in our system we have to be able to block in space and make decisions or we wouldn’t get anywhere. For us it’s a set 10 minute team period for everyone at least once a week because 0 big run plays happen when “skill guys” don’t block. #hogfbchat
A4: I think screen period is great to work on in the summer and getting them to understand angles and where and who they’re aiming for. In the season, it can save a bunch of time and you can get your live reps when practice time is limited. Teach early #HogFbChat
A4: A lot of my answers are just answers from the perspective of my coaches. 😂
That said we slowly turned practice into a full time run throughs. So we worked the play in here and there #hogfbchat
Depends on what the practice plan is but because its built in our system, #NZoneSystem at some point and time its always in the practice plan, whether its just the oline or if we do a team period. #HogFbChat
Q4: This goes back to what you’re running offensively. If you’re a heavy screen team you find time to drill screen game. Prioritize your offense, prioritize your practice periods, & prioritize your drills for team/Indy. #HogFbChat

A4:We work on blocking in space as a whole team. Set up a grid get a lot of reps in a 10 min segment. Guy in the front of the line sprints to the defender, buzz the feet, fire the hands and drive. then we add movement by the defender. #hogfbchat
Work it in with regular blocking techniques. Have to. We pull a lot and if no ones home they have to find work. Gotta be able to block in space. #hogfbchat
A2: Half Line. Both sides at once. WR in their formation. Backs fake opposite. Cones where the OL will be flat for 5 and defense holding bags. Shows landmarks and receivers where the seam hits. #HogFbChat

A4: Make time for a team screen period every week. Sometimes only 5 mins. Sometimes 10 and marry screens w/ play actions (nakeds, boots, etc...) get multiple groups going rapid fire. Doubles as a nice condo period.
#hogfbchat
A4 Open field drill aka Cage Drill. Useful for a variety of things it's not scheme specific so rep that with the OL during Indy or down time. #hogfbchat
