A1. "When everybody plays, we all win."
In my role as an Instructional Tech Coordinator- I get to see this from a whole different side. When we come together and brainstorm as admin, coach, teachers, etc. The students get more creative minds with an intentional plan. WIN! #tlap
A1 we have so much value as individuals including others and collaborating and sharing in our ideas and stories can lead to powerful discoveries. #tlap
A1: I loved that commercial. It really spoke to empathy and kindness and making the world a better place for everyone. I loved it when I went into a class and a teacher was sharing this commercial this morning and having discussion #tlap

A1 it shows so many options and possibilities if we just open our minds to it. My thought was “it’s about time!” And “why hasn’t @NintendoAmerica done anything like this? #Tlap
A1: As educators, we can help students press beyond limitations. We can work to find ways to reach and meet the needs of any student who walks through our doors. (Also, during this commercial, I wasn't crying... you all were.) #tlap

A1. As a teacher, I think about the MS team I was on. We all pulled together, we all were there for the kids, we worked hard to establish a caring environment. WIN.
In the CR, when Ss work together- they learn from one another. Sometimes this is the AHA that they need. WIN #tlap
A1 We need to be inclusive with all our students and colleagues. Everyone deserves a chance to learn, to be part of the team. When we build a community, we grow stronger. Let's work together to make magic happen for everyone! Let's share HOPE and kindness! #tlap
Q1: When neither team is your team...it makes it even more about the commercials! This was one of the best. "When everybody plays, we all win." Share your thoughts on the edu-implications for us of this powerful message. #tlap
A1: Such a powerful ad. We are all in this together, for sure, and when people step out of themselves and become free of me by focusing on WE, we truly do win. Together we're stronger; in the game of life, it's all about connections and relationships. #tlap

We live in an time with unprecedented access and opportunity for a larger proportion of the population than ever before. We need to celebrate this more often as we continue to make our circles wider and wider. #tlap

A1 LOVED THIS COMMERCIAL! I think the edu implications are everyone has value and teaching empathy. To look for ways/solutions rather than accepting things “as is”. There is room people of all walks and abilities. Great SEL feel to this. #tlap
Q1: When neither team is your team...it makes it even more about the commercials! This was one of the best. "When everybody plays, we all win." Share your thoughts on the edu-implications for us of this powerful message. #tlap
A1: It's like soup. There are so many ingredients and when put together, they make something great. All the flavors combine to make something incredible. Everyone contributing their perspective and voice to the discussion provides the same effect. We all win. #tlap
Q1: When neither team is your team...it makes it even more about the commercials! This was one of the best. "When everybody plays, we all win." Share your thoughts on the edu-implications for us of this powerful message. #tlap
A huge part of teaching is creating spaces where all voices can be considered + where all literacies can be honored. This means creating spaces where collaborative meaning making is valued over being "right" or "best" + differences are celebrated as assets. #TLAP
A1 - this reminds me of how important it is that we find ways to have include, diverse classrooms across disciplines. For ex, tracking students in math is bad for low and high achieving Ss. #TLAP
Thanks Dave. I challenged the teachers over the weekend to take GroundHog's day and the SuperBowl and make relevance and the staff really did it today. They were awesome sharing #SuperBowlSnaps and commercials and really getting into it #tlap
A1- When we encourage inclusivity, when we celebrate diversity, differences, when we see strengths that some may see weaknesses we are not only kinder we are better, smarter, more successful #tlap
A1: This was by far the best commercial! For me, collaboration and it really implied the message to treat each of our students as equal (including giving equal opportunities) #tlap
A1: I think of when all students are involved with the learning (simulations, choice, collaborating and creating) everyone wins! The Ss are active participants rather than passive listeners. #tlap
A1: This makes me think of Identity Safety! All students, all in! We all have so much to learn from one another and when Ss feel valued and accepted they are more inclined to put their thoughts out for others to hear. This is where true learning grows! #Tlap
Q1: When neither team is your team...it makes it even more about the commercials! This was one of the best. "When everybody plays, we all win." Share your thoughts on the edu-implications for us of this powerful message. #tlap
This is like...my reason for being. Whether its in #gbl or #gamedesign projects or #EsportsEDU The goal is to engage everyone. Build ecosystems so it doesn't have to be just one person doing one thing. #tlap
Q1: When neither team is your team...it makes it even more about the commercials! This was one of the best. "When everybody plays, we all win." Share your thoughts on the edu-implications for us of this powerful message. #tlap
A1: I can’t help but think about professional learning communities. When we a have a culture of learning for the adults in a building, we are all better. And when we are better—kids win! #tlap#BetterTogether
Q1: When neither team is your team...it makes it even more about the commercials! This was one of the best. "When everybody plays, we all win." Share your thoughts on the edu-implications for us of this powerful message. #tlap
Hey #tlap! I’m late... and with that, I get to use @TaraMartinEDU’s favourite token late gif! I’m Annick, gr 1 French immersion teacher from Winnipeg, MB, 🇨🇦. Favourite snack for me has to be popcorn... specifically jalapeño popcorn! Yum!
A1: We use the term OWNERSHIP all of the time. We want every stakeholder to be represented & have a seat at the table. It takes a village! ALL voices matter! #tlap
Q1: When neither team is your team...it makes it even more about the commercials! This was one of the best. "When everybody plays, we all win." Share your thoughts on the edu-implications for us of this powerful message. #tlap
A1: “When everybody plays, we all win.”
We need everyone. The problems facing our schools (and our world) are too big to go it alone. We need all ideas. We need all voices. We need all of us. Inclusion is a verb. #tlap
A1: I believe this is true when teachers are “swimmers” with their students, and when the adults in a building are working together toward that common goal that will make a difference for kids. #tlap
A1: I loved this commercial, too! I think the quote is beautiful and fits in our schools today. It makes the game way more fun and encourages students when everyone gets to play. Let's make everything adaptable like those video games! #tlap
A1 This commercial was awesome! I think it speaks to the fact that we all have value. People all have different strengths, gifts and abilities... when we all show up and bring those things to the table, it benefits the group as a whole. Thankfully we aren't all the same.#tlap
Q1: When neither team is your team...it makes it even more about the commercials! This was one of the best. "When everybody plays, we all win." Share your thoughts on the edu-implications for us of this powerful message. #tlap
I love this! @HollyClarkEdu says, "It's 2019... Why are we NOT hearing from every student in the room?!"
This is where instructional technology can really empower teachers and Ss to LISTEN. Tools like @screencastify, @flipgrid@peardeck, @socrative, & @nearpod allow this. #tlap
A huge part of teaching is creating spaces where all voices can be considered + where all literacies can be honored. This means creating spaces where collaborative meaning making is valued over being "right" or "best" + differences are celebrated as assets. #TLAP

Remember it takes all of us to win the game! We each have our own unique styles, it’s so important to support and encourage each other even if it’s a different way to practice or a different play than you would’ve called! #TLAP
We all learn from one another constantly! We all have something valuable to say and add...collaboration is key...as teachers and as students. @lisaannlin2014#tlap
A1: Playing generally means it is inherently fun- bringing a positive attitude to (the table, the field, the classroom, the building, et al); willing to share; celebrating victories AND supporting each other in attempts/failure/risks; defining winning as ALL means ALL. #tlap
A1: In our classrooms, we have to find ways to give all of our students the chance to participate and feel like they are a part of the classroom family! #tlap
A1: This really shows the importance of diversity of all kinds. Diversity in texts, diversity in voice, diversity of stories, perspectives, and thought. We are stronger through these differences. #tlap
A1: We are all stronger when we work together. Capitalizing of the strengths that others bring to the table and involving all of those around us even when we might have reservations at first. If we don't include everyone, we could be missing out on something really special. #tlap
A1) I LOVED this quote and this commercial. Being a Special Education major I think that all students/people should have the SAME ability to have fun in everything they do. #TLAP
A1:
When we are open-minded and embrace multiple perspectives, we all win.
When we ensure that all learners are valued and empowered, we all win.
When the agency of all is honored, we all win.

Q2 The Doritos Company is innovative! They took the original and made it HOT. Something new; something awesome.
Describe an "original" activity (lesson, staff meeting, assembly, etc.) that you turned up the heat and made something new--something HOT!
#tlap@burgessdave
A1: Everyone brings something unique to the classroom. We have to ensure that all voices are heard. Once everyone works together, everyone succeeds. Collaboration is a key component in a classroom community. #tlap
A1: This one spoke to my heard. I believe that when we are willing to practice empathy & seek to understand perspectives that are different than our own, we grow as learners & leaders. #tlap
A1, you can not regenerate experiential learning. When everyone plays, you bring in systems of experience which open all participant into your world of unique learning and high levels of engagement. #TLAP
A1. Everyone is part of the community in the school, we need to work together, and build a culture inside the school for Ss, T and A to feel welcome in the learning environment and continue to grow with the community. #tlap
Q1: When neither team is your team...it makes it even more about the commercials! This was one of the best. "When everybody plays, we all win." Share your thoughts on the edu-implications for us of this powerful message. #tlap
A1: no matter where our students are on their path, we have to take them where they are and push them forward. All of them. Not just some of them. We all deserve to learn, grow, progress; together. 💜 #tlap
Hey #tlap - sorry I'm late! I had some paperwork to sign 😍
Alicia from NC - trying to settle my now *6* year old down for bed after we ate birthday cake & ice cream.
A1: when everybody plays we all win. It's a great grounding principle.
could also be the mission of education. When all learners are learning - we all benefit.
#tlap
A1 The commercial just doesn't relate to students but also to educators. How often do we exclude colleagues because they don't fit our mold? #kindnessmatters is for everyone. #tlap
A2: Rethinking my Roaring 20s unit and having students create museum websites to give visitors some background info on the era before exploring the museum. #tlap
One of my amazing @Skyline_WC peer tutors just wrote a blog on the need to accept + celebrate difference, particularly with language, to value the literacies of marginalized students + to encourage them to continue writing + sharing their voices. #TLAPhttps://t.co/a8y7rvnSok

A1: In the game of life and in education it is crucial that we all lace up our shoes and dive into the action. When one of us decides to not participate, the greater whole misses out on the opportunity to grow and learn from the uniqueness of that individual. #TLAP
A2: Sometimes it's about tossing old and mediocre lessons and starting from scratch. But, sometimes it is also about taking what we do already and kicking it up a notch. #tlap it up to the NEXT LEVEL. Don't throw it all away for no reason!
A2) I took story writing and gave my 5th graders more purpose by creating superhero stories for kindergarten Ss with them as the main character! https://t.co/FwOEFHPNig#tlap
A1: I relate it to learning - when we learn together, we all win! Education is constantly changing and what we did last year won't impact Ss in the same way that a relevant experience for this year will. #tlap
Today there’s a child who went to bed hungry, now waking up hungry. Walking to school with holes in their shoes and holes in their life. Tape cannot help them today, only you can... #flhornets#relentless#tlap#LeadLAP#bekindEDU
A2: I center my English class around texts. But what drives those texts is controversy. Ss love to argue, heck people love to argue. So we tap into that and read, write, talk, and argue our way through the year! #tlap
A2: I believe that teachers should get creative and silly with lesson plans for hard-to-understand topics. For a science lesson I did last semester, I dressed up as a rock star and roll-played to help students learn about musical vibrations! We had a blast! #TLAP
A2, we hung pictures of every staff member on the walls and took the whole staff meeting to write positive messages on post-it’s, and we had cake. #TLAP
I use @MoWillems “don’t let the pigeon drive the bus” to teach rhetoric and logical fallacies. Pigeon is my favorite to use in high school lessons #tlap
A2: I believe so much in the power of experiential learning, even for teachers! When leading professional development I believe whole heartedly in experiencing from the field. Getting into classrooms to help develop teachers has been powerful! #TLAP

A2: bathrooms are not usually a place you look forward to going to. However at one of my schools, we have a committee that has made this experience enjoyable with two ply Tuesday, smelly soaps/lotions, encouraging quotes, and fresh flowers. 😊 #tlap
A2: I loved taking students' understanding of what used to be a worksheet over plate boundaries and turning it into an inquiry project. One where students had an opportunity to model their understanding with food :-) #tlap
A2 I remember trying to teach poetry to some young boys who hated poetry. After several lessons looking at various types of poems, I wrote and performed limericks about each student. We had so much fun that year! So many memories! #tlap

A2: When I do chapter book read alouds with my kinders we act out vocal words (the character sighs, we all sigh, the character makes a mean face...so do we!) #tlap
A1: The success of a school relies on every student, every teacher, every staff member, every parent. Regardless of ability, talents, or experience, when you are working together toward a common goal, every voice, every action matters. #TLAP

A2: I recently experimented with (and in my opinion, successfully implemented haha) a re-vamped facilitation for a poem we learn in class using the tool/app NearPod. Loved the engagement level and just plain fun my Ss were having. it definitely beats a worksheet! #tlap

A2: I try to turn up the heat on all staff meetings. Usually trying to introduce a new idea or tech tool or just tweaking old ideas but always trying to get staff to think more deeply and become better people and better teachers.
#tlap
A2: Working with my 8th grade ELA Ts to have Ss taking all their notes on Google Keep and using all the amazing features - like color and images - to bring their notes to life and organize them and bring them directly into Docs instead of note charts. Making it meaningful. #tlap
a1 I think of this in the larger sense when it comes to schools. If we treat EVERY child like OUR child, then we all win. There should be no "good" schools and "bad" schools. #theyareallourkids#tlap
A2: I created a game framework for each of my culinary classes. Masterchef, The Great Food Truck Race, and The Amazing Race! Transformed the learning experience!
Also, created an innovation team in my district this week made up of "Spark Starters"! They are ON FIRE! #TLAP
A2 I recently took a hum-drum lesson on rounding numbers and kicked it up a notch by having the students be the numbers by wearing numbers around their neck. We played musical chairs to randomly determine the number, then rounded! #tlap
A2: I’m teaching science this year for the first time in a long time, so it’s all new, but my favorite thing so far was when the kids picked matter vocab words to “teach”. They created videos with their lessons, which included their own experiments to teach the concepts. #tlap

Took an old "poster project" on fractals and turned it into a website design competition between classes! Students researched where fractals are advancing progress in a field (medicine, for ex), and we sent all the sites out to the staff for a vote! #tlap
YES!! YES!! I had to be on time to day bc I'm steering the ship with my boss. ;)
Thanks for filling in the gaps, friend. Heart you much!
#tlap@burgessdave

A2: I created a yr long game design project. My Ss created the graphics, music, coding and narrative for their own video game. I've spoken about this at #ISTE18 and many other places and am turning it into a book! My work on this has received so well. HOT you might say. #tlap

A2) For a SS lesson on Native Americans I had my students get up and follow along with a Native American dance. Then they had to create their own using moves from the video we followed. #TLAP
Another trick is when teaching research paper writing, I have my Ss research historical mysteries and conspiracies. They are far more into it than serious subjects #tlap
A2: I made a science review of earth processes into a game of Jeopardy with the actual slides that are in the real game along with the jeopardy music! The students loved competing against each other while still reviewing for their upcoming test! #tlap
A2: We know that discussing our reading experiences helps to build a thriving reading community, but we can add an extra layer of joy with book speed-dating. #tlap
A2: for the new republic lesson I created a series of 5 quests. Ss create a person who is a federalist or democratic republican. Research the the first 5 presidents and blog or podcast about those decisions from that political perspective. https://t.co/hAmdEROpBk#tlap
A2: Everytime we turn our Faculty Meetings over to the Faculty and let teachers run with it, we have better conversations, better brainstorms, and better community building. #tlap
Q3: When the naysayers, the jealous, the trolls, the haters come for you...what is your go-to strategy for staying focused and continuing to move forward in the direction of your goals? #tlap
A2. Learning about volcanoes, Ss researched all different types of information and made posters. Deisgned on paper their volcano, where it was located, and surroundings. Then built them with playdough. Afterwards, we made them erupt. #tlap
A2: community unit meets PBL and the heat grows every single year! Check out what 3 classes created last spring! Read all about it here👇🏻

A2 We tried our hand at magic while reading about Houdini. Our overall theme was success, so Ss had to recognize what made a trick successful, what type of strategies are needed to be successful, and connect that to Houdini’s life #tlap
A2: First... let's take a moment to appreciate my middle school years loving the @backstreetboys...
Now - anytime we bring in global collaboration and student creation, it makes the experience HOT! #tlap
A2: Everytime we turn our Faculty Meetings over to the Faculty and let teachers run with it, we have better conversations, better brainstorms, and better community building. #tlap
Yes!!!! Argument is the key to everything in learning. I love when students argue with me, and it’s refreshing to find more teachers allowing it in constructive forms. #tlap
A2: I love a n y t h i n g to do w/ #kindness An amazing teacher @MrsApelsKinder just invited us to do a #kindness#collaboration Turning up the heat by involving families, telling our stories on @Flipgrid & being involved in their community has me JACKED about this project #tlap
A2: instead of talking about powerful connections and partnerships in the community, we had staff go on a twitter scavenger hunt around the community posting about all of the new business partnerships they were making @jeniferricketts@indybrown7#tlap
A2: The last 3 years I’ve intentionally focused on adding MAGIC to my lessons to make them more engaging!! Ss love it & it transforms the learning experience! #TLAP
A2: Instead of constantly reminding kids about costumes for Drama, we "preheated" the grill by telling our kids they didn't want to miss the event "you will tell your grandkids about." At the deadline, 95% were ready and we did a fashion show with judges, lights, and music. #tlap

I've been pushing my ELA teachers to start thinking about assessing + grading with an equity lens because much of our achievement + opportunity gaps are driven by flawed systems. We've been talking about how to make space for all learners. #TLAPhttps://t.co/kF6pmcmG9D
A2: In preparation for becoming a teacher, my professors have transformed our experiences and have given us opportunities for authentic application. The more opportunities in the classroom, the better prepared we are to become PIRATE teachers. #tlap
A2: My building has fully embraced social & emotional learning & restorative practices. We are struggling to help parents understand our shift away from traditional discipline to a restorative approach. This month at our PBIS assembly, we are having Ss model a circle. #tlap

The biggest naysayers are the ones in my head. I remind myself of those “best thing a kid ever said to me” moments to get through it #TLAP#impostersyndrome
A2 (b): #tlap BTW Doritos is listed as THE most popular snack - AND they have changed their logo 12 times since the original. That should spark someone who has said "Why change something that is working?"
A3 Whenever I'm not sure of our path I connect with someone on our building leadership team and we talk it through. Surround yourself with people who put kids first and watch the magic happen. #tlap
A3 I have to take one day at a time and when that is overwhelming, I knock it down to one hour at a time. Having a mental conversation with yourself to pump yourself up often works too! #tlap
A3: My go-to strategy- I try to remember that everything I do in the classroom is for a purpose! If I want to dress up in a crazy way to get a point across, I should do that for my students. Traditional with a twist! #tlap
A3: I have been working really hard at this as of recently! The first thing I had to do was make peace with my goals and find my inner "what do I need for me". Putting me first has been a struggle. #positivethinking#sometimesicomefirst#tlap
Q3: When the naysayers, the jealous, the trolls, the haters come for you...what is your go-to strategy for staying focused and continuing to move forward in the direction of your goals? #tlap
A3: Check myself to be sure I'm operating under my educational philosophy about what's best for kids. If I am, forget the naysayers. If not, I take a minute to re-examine & adjust. #tlap
A3:My focus stays on what is best. What is best for my Ss? What is best for the Ts I work with? What is best for me? If I am doing what is best and trying new ideas to push myself and those around me, I can drown out all of the noise of those who don't have the same vision. #tlap
A3: There’ll be fans and there’ll be haters. Focus on doing what’s best for your Ss and for you personally and professionally. Usually, people come around to respect your craft. #tlap
A2: Sometimes it just takes a good theme to TURN UP THE HEAT on staff PD (or a lesson). Don't just survey the staff on what they want to learn next. Create a theater experience, be the usher, require ticket entry, roll out the red carpet, have a concession stand, & GO! #tlap
Our highest-rated professional development sessions were when teachers presented on areas of expertise to the whole staff. It empowered teachers + excited the staff. Then, for some reason, we stopped doing it + there are more deltas than plusses for PD. #TLAP
A3: Find your tribe and circle of people who build you up, not tear you down. With a positive tribe to support you, the possibilities are endless. #tlap
A2: One year as a coach, I asked a bunch of teachers in the building if they would lead 25 minute sessions on something they did in their classroom for our PD day. Then people just went to the sessions they wanted to attend, like a mini conference. #tlap
A3: To keep me focused, I think about my why: making a difference for each child. I shut the door to my classroom and share the joy of learning with my kids. ❤️#tlap
A3: I know there are people who don’t share the same philosophies I do...so I keep going, lead by example and open the bus door if anyone wants to jump on with me #tlap
A3 I have an excellent example on how to handle this from @GaryArmida when his approach was questioned he didn't get angry he demonstrated empathy and asked "how can I help" he told me the T must be going through a lot I know it isn't about me..such a great perspective #tlap
A3 Focus on the students and helping my Ts. When I get frustrated or stuck I get into my best Ts classroom and quickly am reminded of my purpose and the reason why I keep pushing!! #tlap
A3: Having a STAR folder with positive notes, emails, cards, pictures, etc helps to brighten up those gloomy days. Also, having a go to person who will listen and support keeps me moving in a positive direction. #tlap
Q3: When the naysayers, the jealous, the trolls, the haters come for you...what is your go-to strategy for staying focused and continuing to move forward in the direction of your goals? #tlap
A3: Somehow I fell into the #4OCFPLN vortex. I tweeted something, and before I knew it, @SteinbrinkLaura welcomed me into their family. It's pretty amazing to have their support and to be challenged by them, 24/7. Each day, I am reminded of my "why" thanks to them. #tlap
Q3: When the naysayers, the jealous, the trolls, the haters come for you...what is your go-to strategy for staying focused and continuing to move forward in the direction of your goals? #tlap
A2: Taking faculty meetings and making them all teacher centered. Most recently teachers led some "Ignite" sessions on lessons, instructional hooks, blogs they are reading, and podcasts! #tlap
Some more “Ignite” sessions from our staff meeting today. Great idea sharing. There is so much to learn from your colleagues. #4Ocf#leadlap#learnlap#tlap@DisruptedTv
A3: Keep classes simple. Focus on texts. Reading those texts. Writing about them. Talking about them. Listening to others talk about them. These things are so important! #tlap
Q3: When the naysayers, the jealous, the trolls, the haters come for you...what is your go-to strategy for staying focused and continuing to move forward in the direction of your goals? #tlap
A3:
Remember that thoughts are just that: thoughts. We don't have to believe them. We can turn them around. (Thank you, @ByronKatie!)
Also, stay grounded in my WHY: the kids!
#tlaphttps://t.co/u4aSQQEJz5
A2: here is a classic made new.
The old baking soda/vinegar lesson. Made hot by adding video creation as the output. Really fun, opens new paths of inquiry and a re-thinking of how to express an idea. Also super sharable. #proudlearner#tlap
A3 - “Don’t take it personally,” I try to turn anger and frustration into empathy as quickly as possible. To paraphrase Brene Brown: I don’t know if everyone is doing their best but it serves me well to assume they are. #TLAP
A2) innovative ideas: several #makerspace ideas, new ways of increasing leadership among our student council as well as unwise work w Michigan green schools. #tlap
A3: The funny thing is they think I care. I don't. If you are not moving forward, you're standing still and losing ground. I don't have time for haters, my time is to precious. #tlap
A3: I just keep going back to my why. I am leading my incredible staff to create high impact, meaningful experiences for our kids. As long as kids remain the focus of our practice, I could care less what the naysayers have to say. #tlap
A3: an oldie but really the best answer from @gcouros. Ami right? #tlap
"We need to make the positive so loud that the negative becomes almost impossible to hear."
A2 (a): I did a test (with help from parents & chaperones) ?s required knowing material that was flipped AND then using those as clues - lots of work but a fun day and a way to connect w/ families #tlap
A3: I try to focus on my WHY & the goal I’m trying to reach. I remind myself that I’m not going to please everyone and to only worry about the things I have control over! Also, I lean on my crew to help me stay motivated! #TLAP
A3: My biggest strategy for staying focused comes down to two things... 1 - focusing on what I am grateful for and the good that is happening in my current situation. 2- I surround myself with like-minded folks who support and encourage me. Gotta have a positive circle! #tlap
Q3: When the naysayers, the jealous, the trolls, the haters come for you...what is your go-to strategy for staying focused and continuing to move forward in the direction of your goals? #tlap
A3 Ive only had to really deal with one person like this. I just try to keep positive, lean on my tribe for support, & march on—try to move past them—as an over thinker that is easier said than done... but if you can’t help me achieve my “why?”, don’t be a roadblock! #tlap
Q3: When the naysayers, the jealous, the trolls, the haters come for you...what is your go-to strategy for staying focused and continuing to move forward in the direction of your goals? #tlap
A3: I drowned out the sound of the negative with joyful, encouraging people that believe in me and my mission.
I focus on my "why" and keep crushing my goals! #tlap
A3: I would keep notes like this in my Smile File and pull them out when I started to doubt myself or feel overwhelmed by kryptonite that threatened to weaken me.
This love from an ELL learner makes me smile every time and gives me energy to persevere. #tlap
Q3: When the naysayers, the jealous, the trolls, the haters come for you...what is your go-to strategy for staying focused and continuing to move forward in the direction of your goals? #tlap
A3) I think it is all about taking time to reflect and enjoying those moments when students are smiling. What my favorite part is looking at my wall of fame above my desk of all my former Ss and pictures of them years after they left me. Its about them not me or anyone else #tlap
A3: Stay positive! Go back to the reasoning behind why you became an educator. Think about the WHY and what drives your passions. Make Ss your focus as well #tlap
A3: my go to is always to chat with trusted colleagues and PLN! Talking things out brings new light to the situation and helps me reflect... then make changes if needed or brush it off my back. #tlap
A3: The "Don't Let Critics Steal Your Soul" section of #tlap is essential reading for this...and feature the amazing "in the arena" quote from Teddy Roosevelt. Have a goal so mighty that you can't afford to be derailed by naysayers. #tlap#PlayBig

A3: Since throat punching is frowned upon by the establishment :), I let the negatives be like "water off a duck's back" & do my thing. When that fails, facts, research, & results work well. #tlap
A3: To quote @heyhopeking “If you have time to Lurk, you have time to Work”. Also I surround myself with like minded ppl who want to learn and grow. Not complain and make excuses. #tlap
A3: I try to understand where the “hate” is coming from. Empathizing and seeking understanding help me reflect and keep moving forward, hopefully with a little more knowledge and insight for the future. #tlap

A3: There is a comfort continuum for everyone. Often times those haters have a “why” behind such resistance or opposite belief. You have to meet people where they are at and let the power of the students show them the benefit of what you are speaking into is beneficial. #tlap
A3: @lisaannlin2014 A smile and confidence in your own best practices is the best reply to the cynicism. Results speak volumes...and a little data never hurts;) #tlap
A3: Determing my why has really helped me stay focus since reading @angeladuckw book Grit this past summer. If I’m frustrated I think of my why, if I’m asked my opinion I think of my why, if I’m thinking of taking on something new I think of my why. #tlap
A4 I am all about shattering the status quo. About spreading kindness, building HOPE and making sure I do what I can to empower others, to show gratitude, to grow with empathy and compassion. Servant leadership is the way to go. I try to always lead with my heart. #tlap

Q1: When neither team is your team...it makes it even more about the commercials! This was one of the best. "When everybody plays, we all win." Share your thoughts on the edu-implications for us of this powerful message. #tlap
Right on. It's amazing how much we don't need to have a great lesson. If we're doing relevant, meaningful work, students have choice in how they pursue the work + they get regular, usable, growth-oriented feedback, that's the right work. Nothing fancy, but nothing easy. #TLAP
A3: I focus on why we are here. I step out into the hallway and start giving high gives to kids, talking with teachers, reaching out to my PLN and always remembering "Every student, every day, whatever it takes! #tlap#culturize

A5: My “touchdown” moment happens every time I make a #GoodNewsCalloftheDay. There is nothing like telling a parent that their child did something awesome and that their child matters. @PrincipalFrench you are the QB of the year for passing this amazing idea along! #tlap
A5: A recent moment was a previous student who saw me at the high school and told me about a scholarship she received for an essay she wrote. She told me I changed the way she thought about writing and made her believe in herself. ❤️#tlap
A5: My touchdown moment was after months of one-on-one work with a struggling student, the improvement of behavior and classroom work. The connection we built and how far we came filled me with such joy and love. #TLAP
A5: I have to say "marching down the field" w/ my ss to see them find their "aha" or see them get into a college of choice is such "sweet" victory/ deserves an end-zone yell. Feels like a win. MAKE IT RAIN! #tlap
A5: #tlap 1st year as a #pyp#inquiry teacher. Watching my Grade 2s pull off a 2 week research project and present it at a showcase to their happy families! I was so proud. I looked and felt amazing! They were my rockstars! #teaching@burgessdave@TaraMartinEDU
Q5: There is nothing like reaching the end zone and achieving a goal you have set for yourself or your students. Describe a touchdown moment in your life. What was it and how did it FEEL??? #tlap

A5: I find myself celebrating the most during our #morningmeeting each day. To see how much we have grown in the areas of greetings, eye contact, patience and #SelfReg make me want to jump up and celebrate every day. #tlap
I learned the most from my colleagues, especially those in other content areas that I don't get to interact with often. I learned great engagement strategies from science teachers + awesome technology tips for social studies teachers that we're applicable to my practice. #TLAP
A6 - this is a good reminder that I should work on asking my Ss “How are you?” More often, not just causally but setting aside time to really check in on them. #TLAP
A5: I lead a high poverty/high needs building. When I took over 2 years ago, our data (behavior & academic) was horrendous. In 1 year we turned around the data, renewed our global focus & STEM pedagogy, & went all in with SEL. Last week we WON a FETC STEM Excellence award! #tlap

A5: A touchdown example for me was when a St came running into my classroom with tears of joy saying she had discovered her passion, she wanted to become a chef.
Those moments when passions & dreams are realized are my touchdown moments. #tlap
A6. My biggest touchdown moments, are my children. Two incredible people, now teen-agers! Watching everything they do, and all of their accomplishments! #tlap
A6: Thank you. Simple words, but mean so much! Sometimes we get into the rush of things and forget the importance of saying thank you. Everyone should know their efforts are appreciated. #tlap
A5 Also, equally important but really TOUGH. when a high schooler who had bragged all year about having never read a book for school, asked me for a letter of reference and I had to turn her down. A difficult but powerful moment for us both. Real learning is tough #tlap
A6: I LOVE YOU!!! I think everyone needs to hear this. Love is the thread that weaves this world together, and I want my students, family, friends, and even (maybe especially) strangers to always know they are loved. #TLAP

A5 my wife @CharmaynePolen was doing genius hour projects with her SS. I went to and watched many videos of culminating activities. The expressions of the SS faces was priceless but the look pride on my wife's face was/is inspirational #tlap
A6: "I appreciate you" & then share specifics about what you appreciate about them. It goes a long, long way toward building relationships and trust.
Communication in general, good, bad, or ugly, is important. Have the crucial convos. Don't leave people hanging. #tlap#LeadLAP
I've been working on this. I make my answer more deliberately when asked and I sincerely wait to hear the response when I ask the question. Asking a follow-up question or making a follow-up statement makes me more present. #TLAP

A6: It's important to ask your students "how are you" because as sad as it is, sometimes you will be the only one who asks them that question. I want my students to be comfortable enough to come to me when they need me. #tlap
A6: “How are you?” Sometimes we just need to take a deep breath and ask this. It’s easy for me to get caught up in the long list of standards or the million other things on our plate.
Breathe, Smile, Ask, “How are you?” (And listen😉) #tlap
A6: Thank you. Infusing #gratitude wherever we can into our day is integral to growing relationships, connecting and maintaining a positive mindset. #tlap
A6 I think people need to hear "Thank You" more often. Gratitude is an action that is sometimes overused and the meaning gets lost. We need to be more authentic with our hearts and show daily gratitude for what people do everyday to make a difference in our lives. #tlap

A6 -- a spin off of "I love you"... I think people need to hear the words "I value you" more often. I recently took a 21 day gratitude challenge, stopping 21 different Ss face-to-face in the hall, and telling them what I appreciated about them. Weve got to be intentional! #tlap

#tlap A4a I like taking the road less traveled. Seeing this pennant I drove into the #sonorandesert a few miles ultimately meeting Guy and learning about a model rocketry group.. https://t.co/bdCW9jSpG6
A6 “I love you”.... I think people don’t hear it enough and I think when it’s genuine it’s one of the most empowering and uplifting things. I routinely tell my students that I love them, care for them, and will do whatever I can to help them. Sometimes they need that most. #tlap

A1: My touchdown was Friday! 🌟BEST TEACHER GIFT EVER! Sr takes mythology, we struggle w/engagement thru Norse (1st Qtr) & tolerate Tolkien (2nd Qtr). Friday he walks in from Art 2 & says, 👀 what I made you! Gollum!😄6'4" sr boy. Made. My. Day. #tlap
A6 I think How are you is the most meaningful thing we can ask people today. We need to continue to be genuine and show others we care by asking how they are. #tlap
A6) I am want the people I serve to hear the words "How are you?" and I actually mean it. Like I said earlier, I am a listener but sometimes I get distracted. #TLAP
A6: "How are you?" Is something students should be asked more often. This is a great and easy way to learn more about your students and how they're doing! #tlap
A5: When I see former students who are now in their late 20's and 30's as successful adults and they say, "I remember your class. You taught me about real world experiences that I am using every day. I remember the fun we had. Best class ever." #alwaysateacher#tlap
A6: I love you - Believe it or not, I say this to our kids at school. I want them to know that I love them and that I'm there for them. I want them to know that school is a place of love and kindness and that no matter what, we will be there for them #tlap

A6: #Gratitude has huge therapeutic benefits as it is neurologically impossible to be in a state of appreciation and a state of gratitude at the same time.
According to this infographic from the Templeton Foundation, positive, grateful people live 7 years longer. Yay!
#tlap
A6: #1 - "HOW are you ?" AND truly listen to the answer. Be ready to respond w/ support, compassion, time.
#2- MAHALO means so much more than "Thank you" it is regards, praise, admiration #tlap
A6 How are you. It feels like you slowed things down and gave specific time to the person you are asking this question of. But you must say it like you mean it and want to hear the answer to not. Do not say it as small talk. #tlap
A6: “Thank you”
People who feel seen and valued will always do more without ever being asked. Who do you value? Do they know it? I love sending heartfelt emails, texts, DMs... and coffee stops and gifting books as special treats. #tlap
A6) "I Love You" every child needs to hear that. I even use it when I'm talking to a child about bad choices or consequences because they need to know I care even when they might be at their maddest or worse self. #tlap
A6 Well, ALL of them. I love giving my students the space to tell me what I NEED to know about them. Some of them have endured tremendous hardship between the time school got out, and when it started the next day. They need to hear, "How are you?" #tlap
I say it every single time a kid leaves the media center. 9 times out of 10 they say it back. It throws my 6th graders for a loop the first time, but they get used it to it quickly. #tlap
A6: Extending the phrase a bit: How are you? How are we? How can I help? 3 questions I have integrated into my leadership practice because they open so many conversational doors. #tlap

A6: We need to use all three phrases, please. And sincerely mean them. Let’s care enough to ask how others are doing. Let’s embrace gratitude and say thank you. And let’s show love and compassion - even when it’s hard. #tlap
A6: “Thank You”!! I strive to show my gratitude towards others & infuse this in my classroom. I believe in the importance of showing your appreciation for others and letting them know you are grateful for them! #TLAP

Q7: #SuperBowlSnaps is a cool example from @TaraMartinEDU & @MathDenisNJ of capitalizing on a current event for edu purposes. How can you use an upcoming event to engage kids or staff? #tlap
It's Leadership 101: there are three ways to show people you care: things, time + thanks. Most people value the time you spent genuinely thanking them for their work + their presence than any thing you could give them. We shouldn't overcomplicate it. #TLAP
A6- How are you? How can I help? So important to ask because more times than we realize it is not about us..we all- kids adults, teachers, parents, administrators are all dealing with our own challenges that manifest in behaviors that can be unkind but it's not personal #tlap
A6: "How Are You" is the one I'll choose for this answer but every single one is important. I can show Ss that I love them by asking and caring about how they are doing each & every day. I pay attention now more than ever. How they're doing matters. Every single day. #tlap
For sure! Knowing someone cares makes everything else seem small in comparison. Knowing ONE person is on your side can be all it takes to put your mind at ease. Imagine what it does for our Ss. Love your answer! #tlap
I like the way you're thinking here... I also find myself assuming that people know that I am grateful for them already, so why say it? But I'm finding that constantly showing gratitude is a game changer and can change the way we think about things. #tlap
#tlap A5a I’m glad I went back for #TLDC19 day two.. I learned some things from @caranorth11 about Slides & presenting that I can put to use right away.
Finishing each day in a Circle and asking
"Did you Learn today?"
"Were you Kind today?"
"Did you feel Kindness today?"
If you said "Yes to all three, then you won today."

A7: The Grammys are next weekend! March Madness is next month! Here is a blog with my ideas for creating a #tlap experience for The Academy Awards: https://t.co/hd8QaEx6pF More importantly...it shows the mindset. #MakeItReal
Had a goal to complete my Doctorate in Education and actually did it as of last 12/17. It felt like a huge, "YES!" It was an affirmation that I could achieve even the most challenging of my goals and dreams to make a positive impact. It felt awesome! #tlap
Q5: There is nothing like reaching the end zone and achieving a goal you have set for yourself or your students. Describe a touchdown moment in your life. What was it and how did it FEEL??? #tlap
A7 I want to use our upcoming Celebration of Learning (student led conferences) for students to showcase the websites they created in Google Sites - their Learning Hub. They are uploading their best work, and some work in progress to show what they've learned #tlap
A5: When someone pointed out to me that my strength as a leader is that I'm a systems thinker.. I had to look up what that means! Now I'm learning to harness my "super" power 💪 #TLAP
A6: I LOVE YOU! Littles need to hear this! And while we may not say these words, I am constantly encouraging my Ts to approach every situation with our students from a place of love and support. I believe that you can NEVER go wrong when you err on the side of love. ❤️❤️ #tlap
A6 #tlap I think it’s the thanks Years later, when you least expect it, a call, a post, ... but I have to emphasize I’ve never thought teaching was a thankless job, I suspect most folks in most service industries hear precious few expressions of gratitude.
A7: I plan to have a contest to see which 64 books have been checked out of the library the most this year, set up HUGE brackets outside of the media center, and have Ss guess which ones were checked out most.
We did brackets earlier in the yr & Ss LOVED them! #tlap
A7: Valentines Day - Sending Valentines to Troops. The Grammys - Share how music has changed through time. My Birthday - Guess how Old Mr. Billy is and for jokes. #tlap
A7: March Madness with books. Last year I participated in a large group but this year I’m going to have Ss make our own bracket so the books have more meaning to us! #tlap
A7: Look in the news. There is so much there read, write, and talk about. Perfect for any English class. We live in "interesting times" for better or for worse. #tlap

A7: On Valentines Day, the group of guy students that I mentor will be serving lunch to our cafeteria ladies to let them know that we love and appreciate them! It's important to give students the opportunities to practice kindness towards others. #tlap
A7: President’s Day. I always transform my room into a voting booth and we learn how to vote. It’s between Duck for President, Grace for President or My Teacher for President. I haven’t lost an election yet 😜🇺🇸#tlap
A7) Creating activities around a certain event would be a great way to get your students engaged. If more students are interested in the topic, the easier it will be to engage them during the lesson/activity! #tlap
A7: I want to tie in student interests into my classroom! Its important to tie in current events into your classroom to keep them in touch with the real world! #tlap
A7 I will definitely be using #RAKweek to teach empathy, hope, kindness and making a difference. Two weeks until go time! Let's see what kind of magic we can make happen! Using special days/events to boost and deepen learning is powerful! #tlap
Q7: #SuperBowlSnaps is a cool example from @TaraMartinEDU & @MathDenisNJ of capitalizing on a current event for edu purposes. How can you use an upcoming event to engage kids or staff? #tlap
A6: Taking an interest in your students and staff is critical. Telling them "Thank you" for their time, ideas, work ethic, dedication, commitment, desire, risk-taking, creativity, talents, enthusiasm, passion and courage should happen everyday. #tlap
What a SUPER game #tlap was tonight! And what great food... for thought. Cannot wait for March Madness ! I have to jump out early but Mahalo nui loa to all of you - especially our coach @burgessdave & Offensive Coordinator @TaraMartinEDU
#tlap A6a I wouldn’t be able to hit the road in search of #reimaginePD with teachers throughout the American Southwest if Mrs wasn’t so encouraging..
Find a cool one.
Stay in a safe place.
What learnings did you take away?
Thank you babe!
A7: Talked about possible themes from SuperBowl today, use different aspects from March Madness in classroom like school chants in Eng 2 (Rock Chalk Jayhawk for example) and mythology tournament bracket of Greek gods and heroes. Who wins? Loses? Makes it to the big game? #tlap
A7: #MarchMadness = #MarchBookMaddness at our school. But it could also be an opportunity to do something awesome related to learning about different colleges and where those colleges are located. The wheels are now spinning... #tlap
A7: Valentine's Day- sending letters to children's hospitals. It's a great way to encourage student writing and something the kids will enjoy doing. Have the kids get creative! #tlap
Q7: #SuperBowlSnaps is a cool example from @TaraMartinEDU & @MathDenisNJ of capitalizing on a current event for edu purposes. How can you use an upcoming event to engage kids or staff? #tlap
A6 Can I suggest we need to be smarter about “How are you?” It’s just too easy for our fellow teachers to say “fine” and our students to say “fine” or less - maybe “Hey what’s the best part of your day so far...?” Or “How can I help” cause we all need help. ;-) #tlap
Q7: #SuperBowlSnaps is a cool example from @TaraMartinEDU & @MathDenisNJ of capitalizing on a current event for edu purposes. How can you use an upcoming event to engage kids or staff? #tlap
A7: Random Act of Kindness Week is coming up!! My kids are excited to be sending out some #kindnesspackages!! We can’t wait to spread joy around the 🌎 & on our campus! #TLAP
A7:the 100th day of school is always fun. Book brackets for March madness are a hit. Students at my schools are reading Monarch books to eventually vote too #tlap
A7 with all the "fake news" hysteria we have started a News Crew that will move about the school gathering real news and publishing to our schools FB page. Totally learner led with @Dkmorgan02 guiding them. #tlap

A7 I just wrote a social studies lesson plan on why/how historians ask questions. I tied it to detective work and asking the 5 W's: who, what , when, where, and why. Then I challenged them to find a current event and answer the same questions. #tlap
#tlap A7a After a year of #reimaginePD streaming learning experiences via #PTSEDU#FBLive I’m starting to hit my stride & not make [so many] mistakes. #CUE19 is in March. Expect lots of streams & maybe an interview or three.
A1) One of the biggest things that we are taught as educators is to include everyone, this commercial helps bring this topic to the light! Well done! #tlap
A3) I take a walk, listen to a few songs that return to a focused state and breathe. I ask myself: what questions can I ask the person, what role do I play in this, what is the preferred outcome for this situation & how do we get there? #tlap
Q3: When the naysayers, the jealous, the trolls, the haters come for you...what is your go-to strategy for staying focused and continuing to move forward in the direction of your goals? #tlap
