Evening all! James here. Your moderator for tonight. Ready to talk Project Based Learning with the PLN!
thanks for joining tonight
its a great topic which I have enjoyed a lot working with and developing over the years
Let's get things going for tonight with Question 1! Spread the word around it's not too late to join us!
is underway! Join us as we discuss and challenge perspectives on Project Based Learning! https://t.co/MTW8qNjTb0
Let's get things going for tonight with Question 1! Spread the word around it's not too late to join us!
A1: Project Based Learning is a platform where students and teachers can emerge themselves in real world thinking
For students to explore real-world problems and challenges within a facilitated teaching structure around advice and guidance
allowing students to seek out and explore real problems that may impact their own culture, environment, their peers or society
A1- Going somewhere new with powerful question
I like that concept! Thanks for joining in
A1: Project Based Learning is a tool where students can explore real world issues by becoming the problem-solvers
thanks for joining us! Just in time for Q1 which was just sent out! Dive in and have fun
A1- Learners being citizens of today by engaging with real world problems Got that from
Some great concepts and ideas being tweeted! Keep them coming
Question 2 up shortly! Great start everyone
Q2: Why is Project Based Learning becoming more well known now versus in the past?
Hey....find a problem, preferably local, engage community, and solve the problem, collaboratively, guided by teacher....?
great tweet! Some great stuff there!
You mention it's more fun & interesting, what is making Project Based Learning more fun & interesting? https://t.co/qJ8a24M9fe
high engagement, more fun and interesting, it's real.
possible examples in class have students all creating the same cookie cutter solution. PBL allows for differing projects A2
A2: The internet facilitates truly global instantaneous collaboration.
allows for students to have greater interest, say, developing soft skills rather than just an answer A2
A2: People actually give a damn about it! It started off as a concept but now it's put in practice! People want to SEE it happen
great tweet! Thanks for joining us on tonight.
What is an example of developing soft skills rather than just answers? https://t.co/pUylj52h0U
allows for students to have greater interest, say, developing soft skills rather than just an answer A2
Happy to join from Oregon!
A2 PBL/research based learnings been around for a long time - but in pockets - more prevalent since the updated NZC
A2 We're moving from info gathering education/ society to a creative one. PS allows for creativity at a deep level
Certainly getting some international flavour in tonight's ! Fantastic stuff https://t.co/W9r0c2asz4
Happy to join from Oregon!
collaboration, communication, interacting with other people rather than just the teacher, seeking out different people.
great tweet! Thanks for joining us tonight
PBLtaps into S interests and has voice and agency at its heart hence high engagement and buy in
We are moving from an info gathering education to a creative one, nicely put ! https://t.co/OAbrRk2vNj
A2 We're moving from info gathering education/ society to a creative one. PS allows for creativity at a deep level
working together, empathy, understanding, perspective
Question 3 on the way soon! Thanks for some amazing tweets, more people involved each Q!
- Feel free to join in with our student moderated edchat ! Question 3 on the way shortly
Q3: The possibilities of Project Based Learning seem limitless! How do we ensure Ss have realistic projects?
through brainstorms, guides, good questions, rubrics to support evidence
Engaging your students is great but a community is even better! Well said https://t.co/C6wXbxq8wG
...and engages community ( if desired) which can be very motivating.
evaluating risk at the start
If students evaluated the risk of a project, would that motivate them even more or just scare them off? https://t.co/7dpSFAi1Ww
evaluating risk at the start
A3: Life shouldn't be sticking to the status quo. Risk taking is becoming more evident in projects.
ethnography, gathering evidence
A3- Part of skill set to be learned. Then again, everyone though it was dream 4 yrs ago but he's doing it https://t.co/hZmDkmQawT
yeah, part of the process of discovery
You sound like you belong at . Fantastic tweet! https://t.co/EExfplgGyD
we don't , they do, self responsibility, critical reflection, and thinking in design terms, part of the process.
Let's keep that momentum going! Question 4 on the way.
Agreed, a lived life involves risk, better than a non-lived being a passenger
A3 part ofTs role is use Qs to encourage Ss to think about what a realistic project is, why and how - PBL doesn't mean no T input
that would be dependent on the S and evaluation process impt to know your Ss and choose right tools
Q4: Let's dig deep, what is the PURPOSE of Project Based Learning? Or is it up to Ss to discover the purpose?
just a talented group of modern leaders!
purposeā¦ being able to apply learning to future opportunities
i think the why and how comes within the curriculum design, decided by students with parameters set by the teacher.
A4- PBL is real time active learning, where the journey is co-constructed. Purpose depends on what Ss learn from it.
A4 to provide Ss with a real life context to use, apply and grow their skills
Couldn't agree more! https://t.co/hbAjLzBza2
A4 to provide Ss with a real life context to use, apply and grow their skills
aye it's a shared process not a solo journey
What do you mean when you say real time active learning? https://t.co/OE9Vw5OEfC
A4- PBL is real time active learning, where the journey is co-constructed. Purpose depends on what Ss learn from it.
I tend to begin at the end, and work backwards to find the most effective solution....?
It's not prescribed (hopefully). Ss learn along the journey. Some Ss might learn about dealing with disaster fails

It's not prescribed (hopefully). Ss learn along the journey. Some Ss might learn about dealing with disaster fails
A4: Our world changes so rapidly. PBL can keep knowledge from becoming irrelevant to present conditions.
The answer will be on Github, probably haha
Final question coming up! Let's finish off with a bang!
thank you for showing your interest! The next is coming up on August 10th at 8:30pm (NZDT) Hope to see you there!
Q5: What are your hopes and dreams for Project Based Learning being implemented in the near future?
A5: I hope that Ss develop and unpack the true meaning of PBL and explore opportunities that are avaliable as a result of PBL
I truly hope that it can become a part of integrated learning: a blend of different teaching methods = key to success!
