¡Es la hora de #SeesawChat! Bien!
A1: Hi all! I’m Alison Preston. I’m a 2nd grade teacher in Lawrence, KS. My class represents 7 different home languages. 3 words… Two snow days #SeesawChat
Q2: @Seesaw is an awesome tool for students of all ages and contexts. What is your favorite activity when using it with ELL & DLL students? 🤔 #SeesawChat
🤔 #SeesawChat
Stopping in for just a few- getting ready for Family Night at school. We are traveling to all the countries we are connected to in our global @Seesaw classrooom #seesawchat
A2: I love the fact that the students have the opportunity to express themselves through so many options... drawings, short labels, and recording their verbal thoughts… writing can be so daunting for a 2nd grader, especially my ELL students #SeesawChat
A2: @Seesaw my favorite activity is anything to get them to express themselves. I have one very quiet S that will be more expressive and vocal when recording their voice. #SeesawChat
Watch second grade bilingual teacher @cll1781 share all the ways she uses Seesaw in her dual-language classroom. She explains how she uses Seesaw to track growth for ELLs in listening, speaking, reading, & writing. Watch any time! https://t.co/mFTQ3kfDes#seesawchat
A2: I love that there is a translation feature. I do not have any Ss this year who do not speak English, but wishing I had that feature with past Ss! #SeesawChat
#SeesawChat
A2 I love any activity where my students can record and share in their L2, especially when they have their bilingual partner nearby for support. They always sound confident and excited to share with their classmates. #SeesawChat
Yes! The translation feature is amazing, especially w/ parent features! It allows parents more opportunity to connect with the classroom, communicate with their Ss teacher & comment on their Ss work in home language, which reinforces importance of both languages. #SeesawChat
A2 I ❤️ that parents who feel the language barrier between themselves and the the teacher- find a way to connect with translation and students voice #SeesawChat
A3: Seesaw most certainly helps an ELL child build their vocabulary whether it is speaking the new vocab or connecting the vocab with picture clues. #seesawchat
My students record themselves reading their stories & our class-stories. I give feedback and then they re-record. They improve greatly from this process. Wrote about it on my blog - https://t.co/Dr2m1dB4dm#seesawchat
My students love seeing each others work. We often view together and give feedback, and celebrate achievements. It really encourages them all. #seesawchat
A2 Fav activity w/ELL: Pair non-English speaker w/bilingual S and have them both explain their thinking. Non-english speaker in native language & bilingual S in English. ELL hears it both ways in native lang & English! #SeesawChat
Agree! I love that parents don’t just get to peek in twice a year at conferences…Now they can see what’s going on daily and really be as involved as they choose to be! #SeesawChat
A3 Having ELs express themselves through video where they don’t have to get up in front of class reduces the silent period. More oral production earlier. #SeesawChat
A2. I love using @Seesaw for fluency. Students can hear themselves read afterwards. They are even starting to re-record because they noticed mistakes #SeesawChat
Q2: @Seesaw is an awesome tool for students of all ages and contexts. What is your favorite activity when using it with ELL & DLL students? 🤔 #SeesawChat
We've used #seesaw as part of a language experience approach - taking photos, then writing & audio recording about such in the classroom. Works so well. #SeesawChat
Q2- All of my K-3 students take pictures of their writing and then record themselves reading it. We also video reader’s theater skits for parents to view. #Seesawchat
Q3: When I get a newcomer S I can take pictures of students, objects in the classroom, etc. label them and record myself saying the label. The S can learn quickly from visual, print & verbal all in one. Then they can start producing their own as they get more comfy #SeesawChat
Q3- my EL students who are not comfortable speaking in front of peers are more likely to speak and explain their thinking when they know only I can hear them on @Seesaw#Seesawchat
A4 Ss are sharing their thinking in a non threatening way. They become much more comfortable with speaking and presenting. I allow them to answer in Seesaw if they don’t feel comfortable answering in whole group. We are starting to have great conversations #SeesawChat
Q4: @Seesaw gives my Ss a voice and opportunity to show what they know before they speak English, before they can write English and it makes them feel part of the learning more quickly. It also allows parents access to the classroom regardless of a language barrier. #SeesawChat
A4: I would say it not only builds relationships with EL students but also their families. Great home/school communication tool and connection #seesawchat
My adult #ELL students often do multiple versions of the same task. After receiving structured feedback (and voice support), they have another go. They can see and hear their improvement. That's incredibly motivating #SeesawChat
A4 having students complete work independently or with a guided video - differentiates without making it public that they might need a bit more help #SeesawChat
A4 I feel like parents are more connected and always know what is going on in our classroom. Ss are more confident to use their L2, because they can practice recording, and post their best work. #SeesawChat
#SeesawChat
A4 Ss that may have been afraid to speak up would have opportunity to share w/out fear of lang tripping them up. When I liked & commented on their efforts it made them want to "Seesaw" more! #Seesawchat
A4- we are connected as a School so I can see what my students are doing in their gen ed class also. I can ask questions, give feedback, talk about what’s going well and adjust my supports #Seesawchat
A4: being able to give them feedback I love the fact that you can record your voice as a comment and give them verbal feedback. Very beneficial for the lower grades. #seesawchat
That's a great question! I try to ask them to do something meaningful, not only "Copy & Paste" kind of activities. I love when they use emojis to enrich their creations #SeesawChat
There are lots of different ways. I math they can screencast the way they solve a problem (not always the same as how I have taught)… When we are working on a word family they can write and speak the words they are learning. Draw letters and record English sounds #SeesawChat
Yes my adult ELL students are incredibly motivated - and I think what's key is the positive feedback they're receiving - and knowing that they are really improving. #SeesawChat
A4-The relationships built with my students have been so individualized because they have grown in self confidence and are now able to share their work proudly in seesaw. #SeesawChat
A5 Seesaw Activities are a great way to provide information in more than one language for students. We can record the directions, provide an example and template to help them be more successful. #SeesawChat
A5 My biggest takeaway is that Ss can verbally explain their thinking. They can then listen to their recording and edit. Writing to explain usually comes later. Ss can go back and see models of other Ss work as well #SeesawChat
A2-Because I'm still learning the wonderful world of seesaw, I can't say I have a favorite but I am overjoyed when my students get excited when they use seesaw to record themselves. #SeesawChat
Yes I'm about to get my adult ELL students into screencasting - to teach their peers or lower level students different tech-related tasks. Links well to our Instructional writing and reading. #SeesawChat
Q6: Engaging families is almost as important as engaging their kids. How can teachers use @Seesaw to make ELL & DLL families get more involved in their kids’ education? #SeesawChat
#SeesawChat
A5 Activities is a great addition for Ss. Directions can be written & verbal, plus symbols to help them w/tech part of @Seesaw. Also, use options that work w/translation feature of the app for Ps. #Seesawchat
A6: Post weekly spelling, vocabulary, math skill, student can explain class activity so that families can see their student in action, post weekly news or video #seesawchat
A6: We have over 30 languages spoken at the homes of Ss in my school & we only translate regularly 1-3. Using @Seesaw I can send home reminders of events, share about what we are doing, or let them see work from the class &they can translate it into so many languages #SeesawChat
A6 Parents need to feel safe and respected to connect to the school the same as the students. When school makes connection in their home lang. it builds trust & over time parents will connect more and more #SeesawChat
A6: Post weekly spelling, vocabulary, math skill, student can explain class activity so that families can see their student in action, post weekly news or video #seesawchat
A3-Did anyone say DI. This is a perfect tool to target the different learning styles while addressing small group instruction....clearly after lots of modeling. #SeesawChat
Well, I found that Seesaw is easier to use for lower levels, it also gives you more possibilities (writing, typing, drawing on a picture, tagging...) #SeesawChat
In reply to
@loliveira55, @Seesaw, @Flipgrid, @screencasto
A6: Seesaw is a great way for ELLs and other students to be able to share their learning or to explain their thinking. A teacher can explain to parents how to do something. Ex. A teacher can post a video on how to do a math problem in order to help Ss and families. #seesawchat
A6 The parents love seeing their child’s work. They also have loved hearing them read. Even though my families have not used it, I love the translation feature #SeesawChat

Q7: These chats are an awesome way to meet new people and learn cool ideas from them. What is one thing you learned today and would like to try in the future? #SeesawChat
#SeesawChat
In math, I usually put up a problem on the board & they take a pic & then solve with drawing while explaining their thinking. They almost teach themselves LOL. It’s a fave to record their voice so it’s not hard to get them to explain things if that means recording LOL #Seesawchat
A6 I post anchor charts, ideas for practice at home, links to school information for all parents to see. I also use the announcement feature to send specific feedback to individual students and parents. #Seesawchat
After my adult ELL students read their writing. I listen with them and highlight pronunciation errors (and successes). I then record correct pronunciation on their device. They listen and practise and then re-record. They really love this process & improve. #seesawchat
A6: From my quick scroll, continue to use Seesaw to help provide valuable timely feedback for my ELL's on their work, & record our feedback as voice comments, so P's & families can listen too! #seesawchat
A7: I learned that Seesaw could be translated into different languages. As for my school, we don't have that big of a variety but it will work for what we do have! #seesawchat
A6 So many great answers already for this! But again, translation feature to ensure home-school connection and sharing a window into the classroom so Ps know what their children are learning! #Seesawchat
#SeesawChat
A6 We have fun posting special messages for different holidays, Valentine's, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Mother's Day. Ss get excited to see how quickly their family responds & it gives them something to talk about when they get home. Parents feel appreciated too. #SeesawChat
