With many folks having the day off today, and maybe relaxing on this #MLKDay I thought I would guide those that follow #Resiliencechat with a few reflections on several quotes from #MartinLutherKingJr So, we will get started in just a bit!
#Resiliencechat: #tidbit@Wikipedia says about #MLKJr
"He is best known for his role in the advancement of civil rights using the tactics of nonviolence and civil disobedience based on his Christian beliefs and inspired by the nonviolent activism of Mahatma Gandhi."
Hi all, I'm Rob from California, known as @ResiliencyGuy leading our #resiliencechat tonight.
We are sharing #MLKJr quotes, and reflecting tonight on their meaning. I'll guide us through the night. Please use the #Resiliencechat tag in your responses.

Q1.
Do you recall when you first heard reference to this speech. "I have a dream"? Could you share your impressions or feelings that come to mind, when you hear these words?
A1 #resiliencechat
I was not year five years old when he was assassinated and yet, this message, stuck with my parents, and was shared with me in my early childhood. I sometimes find myself wondering what else can be done to make this dream a reality.
A1 I vividly remember it being on the radio when he was assassinated in 1968. I think about the antisemitism I've experienced. Content of their character... I still long for that day. #resiliencechat
#Resiliencechat Yes, I think that the words used provide a guiding light that I do hope that many of us believe we can achieve. I would love to say that we all want this, though, I realize that some don't believe that "all" means all.

#Love#hope and #Resilience#resiliencechat Q2
I believe the focus on nonviolence and a commitment for #love were an essential part of the structure that #MLKDay was trying to build.
Do you think that #love is an essential part of the #transformation that he wanted? Thoughts?
A2 I have offered a lot of love and compassion over the years, but I find that sometimes it's not enough. People suffer from addiction for instance, and as much as they may appreciate the love shown them, they cannot reciprocate. #resiliencechat
Entirely understandable. Difficult when you are tossed around by the system. I imagine they experience a lot of pain. Anger. All you can do is try. #resiliencechat

If you mean not just a blank check approach, then yes. People don't earn the initial outpouring but they need to prove themselves worthy of it after a while. Self-love is key as well. #resiliencechat
Q3 #resiliencechat#MLKJrDay#Peace was an essential ingredient in many of the actions and goals of #MLKJr
I wonder how educators work on a day to day basis to build and develop #peace in classrooms, systems, institutions, and work to include it in innovations? Please share.
A3 I use restorative practices, but it can be hard to find time to implement. You have to really buy in to the idea that a peaceful classroom will in the end be a more productive one. #resiliencechat
Not at all. I believe that more and more people have become more #empowered which is a good thing, and I think to some degree this creates a fear in the powers that be. Unfortunately, our history is trying to repeat itself in some places. #resiliencechat
Back to Richie for a moment. While he said "love them more," he failed to say, "love myself more."

I did what I could, but it wasn't enough. He had to help himself. #resiliencechat
True, #RestorativeJusticetakes time and dedication to implement, and yet, the rewards can be fruitful for a classroom, school, society. It is an investment in #peace#resiliencechat

I think you know I lost people in the Holocaust. And I am guessing you have experienced prejudice. The difference between now and then is that now we have social media. Easier to organize and not feel alone. #resiliencechat
A3 #resiliencechat#Peace thoughts
I believe that it is essential for educators to build #peaceful classrooms, schools, systems, in order for students, staff and community to feel safe! We can all help children to #growinpeace#resilience
#concur Which means we can also use social media to #connect, #engage, diminish isolation, build community, empower, and support each other from afar. String theory taken to a new level. We can all be connected. #resiliencechat

Q4 #resiliencechat
I find this to be very #powerful#MLKJr#MLKDay identified #hatred as a tremendously negative concept, one which can paralyze, confuse, and darkens #love.
How might we actively support negating #hate from our schools?
#resiliencechat That is deep. I just saw the movie "Collateral Beauty" last night, and Love was described as the only "Why" That made an impression on me!
Q5 for tonight #resiliencechat
In schools, where teams of students, and educators work to define what is "right" I have seen miraculous changes. I am hopeful that when what is "right" is agreed to we can have success, and am a little fearful when one group/person decides. You?
A4 What caused me to hate? What caused me to be annoyed, aggravated, judgmental? Still working on that, but sitting in the chemo chair was a start. #resiliencechat
#Resiliencechat The lead Will Smith, gave up on #love and concept of #love finds him, and tell him, he can't give it up! As #love is the only #why. Why we do what we do, why we believe, hope, etc. Love is all powerful. It was just cool to me.
A4 Hatred darkens life... We are seeing that now in full force. I have experienced hatred or judgment. I lost a friend after 25 years because she decided that my lifestyle or friend choices were not good ones. Based on what evidence I have no idea... #resiliencechat
Q6 #resiliencechat
Sometimes, I fear for those that are suppressed into #darkness I fear that they are hiding and can't see the light. how do we as educators strive to ensure that our children, their families, continue to be guided by light?
A4 This friend had been my"best woman" at my wedding. She even made up nicknames for us and then on the day of my 50th birthday, she decided to stop being my friend. #resiliencechat
I can only imagine that torture. I've had so many relatives pass from cancer, and go through that suffering. Yes, a powerful demon that brings about isolation for all. #resiliencechat
Rob, not tonight, but I will tweet out my cancer blog posts at you. I lost my BFF to cancer. My parents lost many friends to cancer. I was sick as a dog in 2014. #resiliencechat
My point though is that the chemo chair was also a meditative experience. Gave me the opportunity to think about what truly matters. Life is too short to be petty. #resiliencechat
