Good evening #MakeItReal! Thanks to @MathDenisNJ for having me here to collaborate together about authentic leadership. I get to serve with an amazing team everyday at #WeAreReynolds. Everyone take a moment to introduce yourself, where you are from, and what role you serve in!
We are thrilled you are here tonight at #MakeItReal. Looking forward to hearing from you in the next 30 minutes of this fast paced 30 minute chat! Let's go!
Welcome Marcine! Great to connect with you here. Love hearing about your greatness through @VealHeidi. She is on car duty right now getting kids! #MakeItReal
I always keep this out in front of me..."we might impress people with our strengths, but we connect with people through our weakness." @craiggroeschel#MakeItReal#LeadUpChat
A1. How you make others feel really does show more about you than them. If you treat every interaction as an opportunity to learn something new, to share an idea, or to build a connection then you are showing leadership skills! #MakeItReal
A1: People want their problems solved. When students, teachers, and parents come to an admin for guidance, it's important to steer them in the right direction and provide strategies to help with solutions. #makeitreal
Q1: You are the ambassador of what you believe. Your belief hopefully is positive because the interaction allows you the opportunity to be a leader of influence. #MakeItReal
A1: When we treat people as individuals, we have the ability to display authentic leadership. Cannot be one-size-fits all because no two people function the same way. #makeitreal

A1: Listen to others and show sincere interest in what they are saying. Be visible and make yourself available, as everything comes back to honest, sincere relationships. #makeitreal

A1: I think about the saying, "There is no 2nd time for a first impression. So it's value in being authentic on every interaction so people can easily and readily follow your leadership. Consistency and transparency is everything. #makeitreal
With every interaction you are showing the best of you as leader, and letting everyone see how to positive interaction can make a big impact #MakeItReal
Authenticity and interest often go together. People can smell out someone who is not interested in them! Connecting with people's and being interested in helping them to grow is huge. #MakeItReal
A1 Every interaction is an opportunity to formally and informally check in on an individuals wellbeing, how they currently are experiencing life and how it impacts performance. #makeitreal
Great connection you are making! People are not made on an assembly line, therefore we should treat everyone as the unique individual they are. #MakeItReal
A2: Authentic leadership looks like a friendship. Someone who is willing to go that extra mile to help someone in a time of need. Someone who is genuinely happy to see others succeed. It’s when you help others see their potential, then step back and watch them shine. #makeitreal
As Michael Hyatt points out..."It's no coincidence that influence and influenza come from the same root word. Real leaders are contagious. People “catch” what they have."
Authentic leaders gather others and move them to act.
#MakeItReal
A2: Providing authentic experiences for them to exhibit leadership and provide effective feedback. I suppose the hurdle comes when helping to development leadership in someone on your level (i.e. teacher to teacher or principal to principal). Trust is also a factor. #makeitreal
A2: I think one of the best ways is to find opportunities to let them shine: have them write a blog, co-present at a conference, have them lead PD in something that excites them. #MakeItReal
This leader @PennyHunterWash embodies "authenticity" in her leadership. She puts it all out there for people and seeks genuine connections. I get to serve with her daily! #MakeItReal
A1: Love this! Believe whole- heartedly in being positive and leaving a lasting 1st impression that makes ppl WANT to be in my presence again. Find a connection with everyone.
Q2: I listen, ask clarifying questions, find out what areas they want to grow, provide resources, and celebrate growth. Also, share my experiences so that can see that it doesn't happen in an instance & we fail UP! #makeitreal
A1: always start w a smile and end w a smile, be present for conversations, and as a leader don’t be afraid to be vulnerable as well, ppl connect w those who #MakeItReal
A2) Much of what Ts (others) do in their daily practice is exhibiting authentic leadership but many fail to recognize those skills. Sometimes just acknowledging those skills inspires people to strengthen their skill set. #makeitreal
A2: Encourage perspective taking--which is not the same as empathy. Perspective taking involves seeking to understand the viewpoint of another person while remaining true to your own ideals. Bend and be open, but remain confident in your beliefs. #makeitreal
By showing your students and colleagues know you are there when they need you! Showing them your are not their boss, your are part of the organization, and they can count w you as a friend #MakeItReal
I think this is important especially when it's relating a peer in the workplace. (ie. teacher to teacher). Capitalizing on the strengths of each other for the betterment of the organization. #makeitreal
A2: Getting to know people allows you have a better understanding of their passions & what drives them. Then present them opportunities that allow their passions to come out. #makeitreal
A2) News flash...leaders make mistakes and we make a bigger mistake when we do not own it.
Always be ready to say.
1. I was wrong.
2. I'm sorry
3. I am going to do this different and here is how.
We will have the people when we do this. #MakeItReal
I've heard of great team meetings where ppl role play different perspectives or argue the opposite of their POV in order to understand others better. #MakeItReal
A2: Late but here! Always encourage others to step out and lead in areas of strength, cultivate a culture of assuming positive intentions and risk taking, and model, encourage, model! #MakeItReal

A2: I am passionate about investing in my teachers and building capacity in them as leaders. Met w an awesome teacher team today who will be leading my campus this year as we #GYSD to lift up our people. #MakeItReal
Inauthentic leaders do not sustain authentic learning environments. In the absence of relationship and a compelling purpose there is little left to build upon.

A2: our school has the 8th grade class teaching PBIS lessons to the 6th and 7th grade students. They have had it modeled for them for two years and now we are letting them lead! #MakeItReal
A3: When students see your imperfections, it opens up a door for communication, which A) develops relationships and B) shows you are a real person too. #makeitreal
Sometimes, the power in these words is that it allows you to acknowledge it, let go, and then move forward...but you have to say the words first! #MakeItReal

A3: If we are preaching that our teachers and students should have a growth mindset, we must first model that we are capable of having that same skill. Ask your Ts or Ss what areas you need to grow in and then work on those! When they say you #MakeItReal, they'll follow.
A3 They need to know you don't expect perfection, but you do expect them to have a growth mindset! We make mistakes, reflect on our learning, and get better! #makeitreal
A3 When leaders share their learning and say, "This is my thinking now as I'm processing. Any thoughts?" It demonstrates that they're vulnerable, learning, and relatable. #makeitreal

A3: We want our teachers and students to take risks, but they need to know you are jumping first...and that you’ll catch them when they fall!
#MakeItReal
Yes, Yes. and Yes! This is taking student voice to an authentic level. Kids can be the most powerful model we have! Let's unleash their hearts! #MakeItReal

A3: I tell people that I'm great at using tech & failing miserably. But as it's happening, normally in front of others, I remain calm & thinking about ways it can be improved for next time. I want 2 model risk taking w/ reflection 2 grow. #makeitreal

#MakeItReal
A2: Constantly encouragung, providing resources, and offering support when asked for, beginning with a trusting relationship and sharing knowledge for the greater good of our future. #MakeItReal
A3: State the obvious, "I am not perfect." When a mistake happens accept ownership, and model grace by not playing the blame game. Dismantle pride and say...apologize when necessary and then show them how it looks to learn from an error. #makeitreal
A2: We position our 8th Graders in leadership roles within our Drama program. We set them as the standard for our underclassmen to follow. We let them take the lead, and handle problems, motivate others when needed. #MakeItReal
Powerful statement..."what do the rest of you think?" It communicates shared value and commitment to a larger purpose.
Any leader who thinks they should make decisions on an island will find the island to be lonely in time.

A3 When leaders share their learning and say, "This is my thinking now as I'm processing. Any thoughts?" It demonstrates that they're vulnerable, learning, and relatable. #makeitreal
A3: Acknowledge what you don't know. When a plan goes bad, own it. Change course when the course is clearly the wrong one, no matter the hassle or expense. In all things, give credit and take blame. #makeitreal
My buddy @jcorippo says when this happens, the audience gets a chance to see inside your soul...it’s reassuring that it happens to everyone! #MakeItReal

A3: At our campus we believe FAILURE LEADS TO SUCCESS. We share our own when needed. We create a consensus so that we understand sts are our customers whom we serve. #MakeItReal
A3: As @TaraMartinEDU says, Be Real. Don't expect perfect because nobody is perfect. Show that mistakes happen to everyone, but trying and failing is learning. We all are learners who need to stretch ourselves to grow, and that sometimes is uncomfortable. #MakeItReal
Oh I have been there and then you feel like a total turd until you get that apology out :(((( I hate when that happens! Always better to make it right. #makeitreal
A2: ask kids what their interests are, what they’re up to for the wknd, how life is going & then follow up! When kids see that you have invested in them and remember their story you #MakeItReal and they’ll never forget it.
Self awareness and self efficacy can either be illuminated by the leader or by those they lead. Trust is creating in every small interaction #makeitreal
What a great conversation tonight! Thank you having me at #MakeItReal! May we never be afraid to remember we are people first and people connect with what is real.
Story frames reality. We can have a white washed view of people and education without a context that is real. Our kids don't come to us perfect and our fellow educators are not either. Arriving, not yet arrived. #MakeItReal
A3: A true leader knows how to say I’m sorry, I was wrong, I’ll do better, Thank you for helping me, and showing that we learn from our mistakes— it’s okay to “Fail Forward” #MakeItReal
Another education buzzword became a charicature of itself--and this one faster than most! When joining the rush to market the message--don't forget the message. #growthmindset#MakeItReal
Sooo fast! Keep growing and connecting with other educators who are heading in the same direction as you. Many great areas to explore and learn. Take Care! #MakeItReal
A3: When people know that you are not perfect and willing to take risks, they will be more likely to follow your lead. We can push our kids (and other teachers) to take risks, but if we are not willing to leave our comfort zones, how can we expect others? #MakeItReal
