A1: At times I can have trouble relating. As shocking as it may be, I'm not up on the newest music and games as much as I 'd like to be. working on this is a priority of mine.
#champforkids
A1: In the past, I have felt I am advocating for kids who are either emotional, disruptive or simply having a bad day. I am advocating for these kids to others who may think differently. To be a #champforkids, we must keep in mind of what is most likely occurring 99% of the time.
A1 Have had a few run ins in which I have not been as professional as I should have. I take ownership of my passion and desire to see all Ss successful. Sometimes I find myself becoming argumentative and I have to work to advocate in a way that Ss and Ts benefit! #champforkids
A1: I'll never forget advocating for a struggling reader & being told that he was "just lazy." My heart broke for him that people thought he was choosing to do poorly when all of the data & my observations told otherwise. The Ps appreciated that I wouldn't give up #champforkids
A1: Had a S who failed a quiz and T thought they were cheating on work in class & home bc S did so good on that, but didn't know content. #champforkids
A1: I remember defending an entire subculture to another teacher once, and declaring they weren’t our problem. I went on to share I was just like those kids growing up. #ChampForKids
A1: My 2nd year of teaching one of my students did some grafiti at the school at the beginning of the year and did not get caught until graduation week and the principal took graduation away from him. Went in and advocated for him but was denied. #champforkids
A1 I felt that a child was being short changed and being told that what the baby needed would never be approved because of budget...Frustrating #champforkids
A1) I tried advocating for a Ss to get more help in reading but because of their track record of poor behavior it didn’t happen until 3rd quarter #ChampForKids
#champforkids - A1 - I often advocate for the middle school boys that I teach, because they act differently with the female teachers than with me. I see a different side of them - maybe because I teach math. I feel like I'm always saying - "but he's great in my class!"
A1: I have 2 Ss that I work with through a mentoring program. I am aware that they’re not perfect, I know where they struggle, but they are such great people. I struggled constantly to get not just their Ts but also others in the building to give them another chance #champforkids
A1. This is a tough one, because I know everyone I’ve encountered has their own story and perspective. I can say sometimes you have to have uncomfortable conversations if you know it’s for the best interest of a student.#Champforkids
A1 I remember being told a child was a “product” of his environment. When we refer to Ss as a “product” it sounds like we are finished with them. #champforkids
Tough 1!! Admin pulled my S from line on way to field trip over a behavior that happened a week prior. S was amazing since that incident. I felt it was wrong. I was overruled 😔#Champforkids
A1: Ss needed rdg support and struggled with general day to day happenings brought Ss up B.O.Y. by Feb. mtg scheduled off to new grade and no support in place I feel for the Ss
#ChampForKids
Definitely. This S was hard to get to know, too. S was VERY closed off - I had tried for 2 yrs to get S to open up and had no luck until an overnight trip. #champforkids
A1: I've advocated for students to get second chances, but they have not always gotten it. Tough when you see a spark of greatness in an S that not everyone else sees. #ChampForKids
#champforkids A1. I had just started teaching and was new to the school. Wanted help with resources for kids..room was cleaned out..Wound up buying my own so kids had something 😮😮😮😮🙁🙁
A1a: I had "that kid" a few years ago. We tried numerous interventions, met with parents and other school personnel and number of times. I saw the potential in him. You know what my principal told me? "You can't save them all." #champforkids

A1: He had become a different person from the beginning to end of his Sr. year but the principal did not know him in that way. Still wish I could've done more but we did get him to still go to Project Grad. #champforkids
A1: I will have to admit that really anytime I have advocated for a Ss, it has went pretty well. Then again, this is going to be my second year, so I am sure I'll have a situation where it does not go as I hoped. For that, I'll have to make sure I am prepared. #champforkids
.A1: I’ve had a couple of cases where I didn’t have as much time as I wanted (as a classroom teacher) to devote to a student who needed more. It’s always a challenge to advocate for more help when resources/personnel are limited. #champforkids

A1 Advocacy is challenging with some, sometimes they feel the accommodation or modifications are giving kids an advantage. Allowing these modifications just evens the playing field #champforkids
A1~different view from outside providers... back & forth, zero agreement at first & slowly, slowly , slowly said the sloth , after many mtgs, data sharing etc, persistence & advocacy paid off w/what was best for Ss ... HUGE learning for me !!! #nevergiveup#champforkids
Good for you! I think the only thing more heartbreaking to hear than a teacher writing off a student is a teacher writing off (or actively working against!) an entire subgroup of students #champforkids
Most definitely. In that Ts defense, the S was really really closed off - there were days that I felt frustrated, but I just knew that the S was special & would eventually show true colors. #champforkids
A1. Fought for student to get more support and continue interventions- stressed concern but didn’t really get until 4th grade. Emotionally exhausting #champforkids
A1 sometimes I can get frustrated quickly with other Ts when I am telling them how much potential a Ss has and they tell me all the negatives that they deal with. Instead I should try to get the T to see the positives and change their mind #champforkids
Poor behavior could have been due to frustration with academic difficulties. However, that does not mean the student shouldn't receive the resources or support he needs to be successful #champforkids
A1: I was told that a student couldn’t write bc he never had. I told them that I knew he could and that he would. Sure enough.. with some encouragement & positivity he became an amazing writer. #champforkids
A1 sometimes I can get frustrated quickly with other Ts when I am telling them how much potential a Ss has and they tell me all the negatives that they deal with. Instead I should try to get the T to see the positives and change their mind #champforkids
A1 I feel very lucky that anytime we advocate for our Ss to our building administrator she has no problem listening and doing what is best for the student especially if we have data to prove it. #champforkids
Even though it did not go well, it did show him that adults noticed his changes and were willing to have his back so at least he was able to recognize that and him and I have developed a good relationship because of it. #champforkids
A1: Happened a lot when I was new. I working w/older, veteran teachers and they were closed off to the fact that kids can grow and change. When it didn't go as quickly as I had hoped, they were first in line to say, "See, I told ya that they were a bunch of pills." #champforkids
I had a behavior kiddo who I believed could succeed in the gen ed class if he had enough support (I was his inclusion teacher) unfortunately I came in halfway through the year, so the other teachers believed I only said that because I “didn’t know himm well enough” #champforkids
Makes it sound like "there's no hope." Not true because as many of us know, many of our kids are successful and overcome despite all the obstacles placed in front of them. #champforkids
A1: Sadly, there’s been many times. As a librarian, it was to allow a student to come to the library when he felt overwhelmed (which was often), and I received little to no support from his resource teachers. #champforkids#punkrocklibrarian
A2: I never gave up on the student from Q1. I was relentless about speaking up & taking action so he could receive the support he needed. The team eventually agreed to have him tested & when the results came back, he received services to help him be successful #champforkids
A2: A time I felt advocating for Ss went well is when I have suggested "choosing your battles" with kids. (Let's be clear--at times I have had to take a does of my own medicine.) However, it is key for Ss' success--not to mention Ts' sanity! #ChampForKidshttps://t.co/94L4petXXQ
A1: Happened a lot when I was new. I working w/older, veteran teachers and they were closed off to the fact that kids can grow and change. When it didn't go as quickly as I had hoped, they were first in line to say, "See, I told ya that they were a bunch of pills." #champforkids
A2: I hit a home run once when I advocated for a student that everyone else had given up on. I took the time to learn and relate to things he liked. He's now in the Navy doing great things!
#champforkids
Agree- I think so much of it has to do with how the conversation is groomed so that the other T doesn’t feel like there’s an implication that they’re doing something wrong. Kind of the same way we address kids to not feel defensive with feedback #Champforkids
A2: Cont with that story, I called S out of class to chat & get to the root of the problem. S broke down in tears & shared the saddest story I'd ever heard. We cried for a LONG time together. Went back to T and told her S needed a chance to redeem their quiz (1/2) #champforkids
A2: Ss needed testef for LS, brought child up B.O.Y. tested and parent came to me last year thanking me for support, years later. Difference from 1st Q - support staff #ChampForKids
A1: Oh I had a full on yelling argument once with a staff member regarding a Ss. I am not equipped with a filter when I feel Ss of mine are being attacked or a teacher shows they have given up on a student. It is not a great quality on my part but there it is #ChampForKids
A2: I find myself in their story. I am a kid that has experienced many ups and downs in life. If I can relate to them, we can navigate through the storm together. #champforkids
A2: I spoke up for a kid that had always been labeled as "that" kid to be our student of the month. Though he wasn't selected, our team spent a lot of time recognizing and celebrating his growth in our team meeting. Helped members of the team rethink their views. #ChampForKids
A1: I need to do better st the advocacy. I can’t think of a single time. I usually just walk away and love extra hard on the ss that give others a hard time. #champforkids
John Miller, Head of an international American school in Mexico City. Would be great to see one of my colleagues and newest #twitter follower @DianaBerz join #champforkids
A2: T trusted me enough to agree & let S retake quiz next day with fresh mind. S made an A on quiz & now S and I are super-close (we actually emailed back&forth yesterday) & T and I enjoy a great friendship of mutual trust (2/2) #champforkids
A1 I had really worked with a student who was going thru a lot out of school.... totally didn’t want to be there but built a relationship where he basically came for my class. I had a colleague go after him over his phone and it strained both relationships. #champforkids
A2: A student had been bounced from school to school because of suspensions and expulsions. I wouldn't give up and wouldn't let others. We came together as a staff to best help the student and they had a great year. #champforkids
A2. I have a rule in my office that the terms “mean girls” and “drama queen” not be used for descriptions of young girls because of the stereotypes that are loaded with those pop references. I have seen a marked understanding of this stance with Ts and Ss! #Champforkids
A2: This past year, I knew one of my students needed an one on one to help with behavior. I ask a colleague to help me formulate the document in order to make he would get the services. He got the services which greatly benefited him. His mom was grateful too. #champforkids
A1: I've been in public education over 20 years, so I have many examples-one that stands out was a high school Ss that many had waved off-came to me lacking hope- I let her know hope floats-saw their potential & bright future w/supports-...#champforkids🥊
A2: Same kid as A1. Met with his mom and dad, just myself. They agreed to get him back into counseling and back on his meds. He did a complete turn-around! The family has moved out of state. 2 years later, we still keep in touch! ❤️ #champforkids
A2 I fought to get a student into my Early Literacy group, he had behaviour issues and was at risk. I eventually got him but a lot of time was wasted ☹️ #champforkids
A2: A student had been bounced from school to school because of suspensions and expulsions. I wouldn't give up and wouldn't let others. We came together as a staff to best help the student and they had a great year. #champforkids
I can share a recent story of how my amazing AP ADVOCATES for students. Every track out, she arranges for several students who cannot afford to go to the YMCA camp to go for free! Community building too! #champforkids@dillonsalem
I'm still teaching. I know that I am changing lives. I kept on believing in the fact that kids, at the core of their being, they want to be loved by us, so therefore I will fight for you. Those teachers, on the other hand, are not. #champforkids
#champforkids -A2-I coach the chess team. I have had several Ss with disabilities or mental health issues on my team. I have advocated for them and worked closely with their parents so that they can attend road matches and compete against other schools. It means the world to them
A2: I'm right there with you! I've had kids not receive the right services bc "it's a language" issue. That's just not right. I will fight for those kids until they get what they need to be successful. I'm happy to say that slowly that mindset is changing. #champforkids
A2: I never gave up on the student from Q1. I was relentless about speaking up & taking action so he could receive the support he needed. The team eventually agreed to have him tested & when the results came back, he received services to help him be successful #champforkids
A2 During our child study, I advocated for a student who was 2 grade levels behind. Rather than changing interventions again, he was sent up for testing. Testing showed a learning disability. Although the parent wasn't around I felt it important to advocate for him. #champforkids
A2: advocating for Ss goes well when I see they raised their grades, completed assignments, completed missing assignments, and are able to do the extracurricular activities they love. #champforkids
A2 When I was an assistant I had to speak up to an advocate who tried to talk down about the abilities of my student. It was my first meeting and I was afraid, but I couldn't take her words any longer. She was shocked, but I got my point across. #champforkids
My 1st yr. I advocated for a non-English speaking student to be placed in the gifted and talented program. Language proficiency & cognitive ability were being confused. #champforkids
A2: Our dyslexia teacher is one of my dearest friends, but I did not agree with the screening results, and advocated for a Ss. After persuasion and tears - the decision was changed in her favor! #ChampForKids
A2: Finally got a student approved for an IEP that had been denied twice before because of a trauma history being determined as the reason for being behind instead of a disability. Cannot wait to see the progress she makes this year with the added supports! #champforkids
A2: advocating for Ss goes well when I see they raised their grades, completed assignments, completed missing assignments, and are able to do the extracurricular activities they love. #champforkids
A2. Advocating for kids with special abilities like autism/Down Syndrome/Aspergers/etc WANTING them & NEEDING them in our family more! Working with resource room teacher to work on same areas he/she is teaching. #mykids ❤️ #champforkids
But you have to encourage that child anyway, Phil. Not everyone will believe, but the child just needs one great person like you to be an advocate. #champforkids
A1: I've advocated for students to get second chances, but they have not always gotten it. Tough when you see a spark of greatness in an S that not everyone else sees. #ChampForKids
A2 I had a student that struggled with working well with others and accepting feedback. I asked if I could work more one on one with that Ss and would have lunch with them and allow them to come to the gym for some hoops and this Ss was able to make positive gains #ChampForKids
A2: I had an amazing S in my Algebra 2 class (lowest of 3 levels of Alg 2). He would have been so easy to teach - because he knew it all! My coT and I recognized this and had him moved out of our class and up a level - it was way more advocating than you might think #champforkids
.A2: Once I had a student who wasn’t getting appropriate services. We went to an IEP meeting and, according to district, he would remain in those ill-fitting services. I got together with my colleagues and we disagreed with the decision. We got him what he needed. #champforkids
Advocacy is not just for students.
Q3 - Think about yourself and your professional needs. How do you advocate for yourself with regard to professional development and growth?
#champforkids
A2: When I go to admin, they listen to me and many times waive the “discipline” side of it. They allow me to make decisions based on what is best for the ss. #champforkids
A2~ feel it is a part of my belief system of #Inclusion not #seclusion & daily advocating and model that #inclusion works & a mindset of incorporating #inclusive practices goes very well in my advocacy practices for my beloved Ss ❤️ #noexcuses
A3: I always do my homework beforehand. I make sure I have examples of how the PD would help and how I can spread the wealth when I return to work with others.
#champforkids
A3: Thinking about me and my own professional needs, development, and growth--I advocate for myself by participating in chats such as #ChampForKids (#ChatBrag) and sharing my thoughts and quotes via #HeardItFromHankins quotes and my writing via my blog:
https://t.co/ZCZDEqeVur
A3: I ask to attend & participate in various LA PD opportunities. I am fortunate to have so many PD choices provided by my school division: @vbschools It is important for us to be reflective & identify our strengths as well as areas that we would like to grow in. #champforkids
A2: I have so many success stories-what went well was NEVER GIVING UP ON THEM-getting a team of caring, resourceful adults to be that students support & cheerleader on their journey-that's the formula that works every time #champforkids
100% agree. Once had someone say, "You can't save them all." Gave me a wrong mindset for a couple years. If a child has a champion they can all succeed! #ChampForKids
A2 I had Ss repeating the grade. Total “don’t need school mentality” & once he realized I was on his side he had some success he flourished. He had a backslide later in the year & was able to get him to show his learning & advocate for a grade change. #champforkids
A3: As @RACzyz would say go ROGUE! Sometimes it takes putting PD in your own hands. My PLN on Social Media and around me are amazing! Starting our first #coffeeedu with principals on Friday. You know what you need, find it or create it! #champforkids
A3: Emphasize collaboration amongst peers and via Staff Development Instruction No ONE person is an expert - we can always learn from one another! #ChampForKids
#champforkids - A3 - I'm not one to keep quiet when there is a curricular or professional development need. Admin are extremely busy people, and they need teachers to speak up and advocate for their needs, or they will never know anything is wrong.
Advocacy is not just for students.
Q3 - Think about yourself and your professional needs. How do you advocate for yourself with regard to professional development and growth?
#champforkids
He will always hold a special place in my heart. He still comes to see me every day & when I hear about all the great things he’s accomplishing, I can’t help but smile and get a twinkle in my eyes #champforkids
A3. School Counseling as a mental health resource is a relatively new concept that we are constantly defining. I think the best way I can advocate my profession is by showing up, showing it off, and getting results #Champforkids
Advocacy is not just for students.
Q3 - Think about yourself and your professional needs. How do you advocate for yourself with regard to professional development and growth?
#champforkids
A3: As @RACzyz would say go ROGUE! Sometimes it takes putting PD in your own hands. My PLN on Social Media and around me are amazing! Starting our first #coffeeedu with principals on Friday. You know what you need, find it or create it! #champforkids
A3: After finishing up my 1st year, I knew my literacy instruction was not good. There's a literacy institute that my district holds . My principal asked if I wanted to attend, and I said yes. I am glad I did, as I feel a bit more confident for this upcoming year. #champforkids
Advocacy is not just for students.
Q3 - Think about yourself and your professional needs. How do you advocate for yourself with regard to professional development and growth?
#champforkids
A3: Probably not in the best manner. I need to be "fed", so I go to the "fridge" + grab what I need. I can't wait for someone to bring me "food". This is why I'm here each night. This is why I've been to all the digital summits. This is why I travel to conferences. #champforkids
Advocacy is not just for students.
Q3 - Think about yourself and your professional needs. How do you advocate for yourself with regard to professional development and growth?
#champforkids
A3 I advocate for my own PD needs by participating in twitter chats, being willing to participate in PD and attend conferences. I find it helpful to be reflective on these PD opportunities and be willing to take risks in the classroom by trying new things. #champforkids
A3: People know what I'm passionate about because I share my stories. I've got two conferences on my radar so far this year, one of which I'm presenting at a breakout session. #champforkids
A3: When it come to advocating for PD for myself, I take it into my own hands and participate in chats, buy books, read blogs, participate in book studies, podcasts, watching #edusations. #champforkids
A2: my 1st yr teaching had a S on my roster that all the other Ts said was a nightmare-1st week of school I started 👀 the behaviors I’d been warned abt, had a convo w/ him about starting fresh w/ no prior misconceptions & he was 1 of my best Ss. #champforkids#punkrocklibrarian
A3: There is a specific conference that I went to last year where we spent all year designing PBAs. I have asked @dbiggs9341 and @ERobbPrincipal several times (pester may be a better word) to go back! Thankful for their support and for sending me in the 1st place! #ChampForKids
Advocacy is not just for students.
Q3 - Think about yourself and your professional needs. How do you advocate for yourself with regard to professional development and growth?
#champforkids
A1 #champforkids
A few years ago I was meeting with a parent about their son. While the conversation was positive, they were overly critical of their child and even though I tried to defend them, they wanted nothing to do with it.
A2 - #Champforkids
At “back to school” night, two parents came up to me and mentioned how their kids felt empowered in class. Their words, “ it’s amazing how after only a few days, they love being in your class!”
A3: After reading #4OCF by @RACzyz I made the decision that I would not wait for support for PD. I advocate for myself but I also invest in myself. I don't need permission to grow professionally. If I can get the support great but I will learn regardless. #champforkids
Advocacy is not just for students.
Q3 - Think about yourself and your professional needs. How do you advocate for yourself with regard to professional development and growth?
#champforkids
A2. Advocated for a student when I worked in NC who was so overwhelmed by after school activities that she refused to do school work, purposefully “failed” her gifted assessment, and was mean 2 all. Parents were called in. Crucial conversation. They listened. #champforkids
A3: You must put yourself out there professionally—get involved, read professional books, start book clubs, learn how to find PD virtually. It’s worth it! #champforkids
A3 I advocate for myself by choosing the PDs that I think will benefit me and reading books and articles to continue my growth. I fall victim to not using my time as wisely and wanting to do too much #champforkids
A3 asking to go to conferences, go on learning walks, twitter chats, presenting all help me grow as a teacher and meet others who have so much to offer and help me #champforkids
A3: I made time this summer to read all the PD books I couldn't during the school year. I've also opted to go to many PD opportunities offered by the district. It has been an enlightening summer, that's for sure! #champforkids
Keep fighting for them, Phil. Keep your sights on where they will be in 5-10 years from now. When we play the long game, we will never lose. #champforkids
Advocacy is not just for students.
Q3 - Think about yourself and your professional needs. How do you advocate for yourself with regard to professional development and growth?
#champforkids
.A3: I’m not great at advocating for myself, but I have found ways to grow professionally by being proactive. Twitter has been phenomenal!! Through interacting with other educators, I’ve found books to read and grow my craft. #Champforkids
Advocacy is not just for students.
Q3 - Think about yourself and your professional needs. How do you advocate for yourself with regard to professional development and growth?
#champforkids
A2: There have been many through the years that I was expected to refer for SPED testing I decided to fill in their gaps and/or catch them up #champforkids
A3~ I asked for help today while at a voluntary PD session & humbled myself & shared being vulnerable about what I thought I should know & set up some more time tomorrow to kick some butt on better time management practices using @Google 😊 #champforkids
Advocacy is not just for students.
Q3 - Think about yourself and your professional needs. How do you advocate for yourself with regard to professional development and growth?
#champforkids
#champforkids A3. I try and I've asked others to come to a pd or webinar or short course and on here too. I know what I need to be better for kids and will keep learning...everyone's busy, so when colleagues can join me they join
A3 I am always doing more PD than required and looking to better. I have been working on advocating for myself when questioned/challenged/under appreciated because I always give my all & cannonball in.
A2.1:
There is no power
when we struggle with kids.
Rather than choosing battles,
let’s not start the war.
It’s simple—just react with love instead.
We are not here to break hearts,
we are here to mend them. ♥️
#ChampForKids#TuesdayThoughts#HeardItFromHankins
A3: I seek out resources (both in and out of the building) that I believe I can learn from and can get behind wholeheartedly.
I also found my 3 “marigolds” (as @cultofpedagogy calls them) in district. I can honestly say that the 3 of them have made me the T I am! #champforkids
Advocacy is not just for students.
Q3 - Think about yourself and your professional needs. How do you advocate for yourself with regard to professional development and growth?
#champforkids
A3. I advocate 4 myself by reading amazing @dbc_inc books, participating in motivating twitter chats like #champforkids -❤️❤️ learning & growing as an educator 4 MY KIDS...🤔OUR KIDS💗 I also am outspoken/will fight 2 learn or b taught anything that will benefit our kids💗
A4: Being proactive is definitely necessary when being an advocate for either students or yourself. Choosing your words or writing carefully can help in not seeming argumentative or negative and simply getting your point across as you intended. #ChampForKids
A4: I believe that if you're transparent & share opinions in an honest & nonjudgmental way, positive intent will come through. At the end of the day, we're advocating for things to get better not to make it harder for anyone. Change can be uncomfortable but we're #champforkids
A4: The key is to show the positives that will come from the change or continued efforts. As you advocate, it is important to listen to other sides as well, be open, be collaborative.
#champforkids
A4: If we are proactive, we control the story. That means we control if it will be portrayed in a positive or negative light. I'm going to recommend the positive! #ChampForKids@ERobbPrincipal@DrCBishop@E_Sheninger
Sometimes we have to be that person who believes in that student, who finds positive qualities in that student, who changes others’ perception of that student. We may be that kid’s only fan. If not us, who?#ChampForKids
A3 I am always seeking new opportunities to grow. Twitter chats allow me to find and self-select PD. I also just ask. There are also TEDTalks, webinars, coffeechats, bookstudies. Don’t wait on a form to be signed. See what else is out there. #ChampForKids
Advocacy is not just for students.
Q3 - Think about yourself and your professional needs. How do you advocate for yourself with regard to professional development and growth?
#champforkids
Do yourself a favor & follow @iluveducating journey. She’s a phenomenal writer & her reflections on @dbc_inc treasure trove help you fall in love with the books all over or if you haven’t read them, you want to add all of them to your amazon cart! She’s a #champforkids for sure!
A4: Being reactive can come with an air of blame or finger pointing which can create that argumentative feel. Being proactive is easier to come off as advocacy and usually has less emotion and more collaboration attached to it. #champforkids
A4: Being proactive gives you the opportunity to stop the discussion before it even starts. Being positive and sharing your own passions with others, encouraging them to share their own, can help create this culture. #champforkids
A4: Being proactive allows for you to show you really care. Most of the time if others perceive it as argumentative, they just don’t get the greater good. #champforkids
Thank you @khoggardGRT for reminding us that even the smallest ripple can make a big impact. Your work with #champforkids is a wonderful reminder for us to continue advocating for our students, our colleagues & ourselves!
A3: newsletters to Ts/Ss, create & conduct PD for teachers & librarians at the district/regional lvl, post library everything on social media, video announcements, attend district/regional/state conferences to grow professionally. #champforkids#punkrocklibrarian@TXLA
Advocacy is not just for students.
Q3 - Think about yourself and your professional needs. How do you advocate for yourself with regard to professional development and growth?
#champforkids
Yes! Last year showed me that! I had kids that it would have been easy for me to say, "You can't save them all." But by the end of the year, we had fantastic relationships and they were work horses! They deserve more than to be given up on! #champforkids
A2: I am hopeful that I am advocating for students every day...all of my students mean that much to me and they deserve it! #champforkids#KidsDeserveIt#gratefuledu
A4 Personally, I wish I would have shared my thoughts a lot earlier, then I could have shared my documentation continually over time. Maybe it would have been taken more seriously. #champforkids
A4 It's important to be proactive and positive when sharing your opinions. Choose what you say carefully and be willing to listen to others just as you wish for them to listen to you. #champforkids
A4: Being proactive is definitely necessary when being an advocate for either students or yourself. Choosing your words or writing carefully can help in not seeming argumentative or negative and simply getting your point across as you intended. #ChampForKids
Aw, thanks sweet lady! It's been a PLEASURE to be on this journey. The support has been incredible! Only 20 books left and I technically have until the first day of fall to finish, so I can totally do this! #champforkids#DBC50Summer
A4. Amen!!! By being proactive we aren’t correcting someone’s behavior, we’re being a helpful hand and showing that we have faith in the parties involved. #Champforkids
A4: With the Ss I mentor, I asked to meet with each of their Ts. I shared all the ways the Ss struggle, but I also laid out their strengths and the goals we had set. I saw a difference in the class where T took the time to meet and the T who was too busy for it #champforkids
Welcome, Stacy! Twitter chats are amazing! Have you heard of Tweetdeck? It can help you stay organized and not get lost in the super fast chats. #champforkids
.A4: One thing we can do is to put as many interventions into place and take as much data as possible. It’s harder to argue with evidence than opinions. #champforkids
A4~ proactive~considered multiple ways, prepared, purposeful & action oriented ...
Reactive~caught off guard, putting out 🔥, short lived, not sustainable
A4 Stick with the facts, but also use heart. Others may mistake your passion for helping a child to be overbearing if not done well, so remain calm but strong. #champforkids
#champforkids A4. I think it's about how I present myself..That we're all here for kids and all want the same thing..That we all have sonething to offer
A4: Being proactive is about thinking and reflecting on what is being said and then give an answer. It's always good to think before you speak! That's the best way to not come across as argumentative. #champforkids
A4. Import. 2 b proactive- Kids are going thru things u know nothing about! Be kind always! Take a step back and reflect before reacting! This is someones whole world! What if this was your son or daughter? #champforkids
A4: being proactive by definition is to create or control a situation by causing something to happen rather than responding to it after the fact...which IMO = not argumentative. #champforkids#punkrocklibrarian
