Outstanding teaching paired with tech integration & relationships allows location & socioeconomic factors to no longer be a barrier.
Every teacher should have built into his/her schedule preparation time.
In an elem building I use specials time to provide 50 min of common plan time each day
So, - is that time consistent from week to week and quarter to quarter? https://t.co/0Qps9DU7WM

Prep time could probably yield more innovation if teachers teaching like courses had a common prep time for collaboration.

Start somewhere! Can one level get common time? Can
hangouts be used? So important to collaborate!
Looking for a cloud-based application like WinWay Resume Deluxe. Anyone have ideas?
Elem teachers, if students ask probing questions and you do not know the answers, what is your strategy?
Yes!! Questioning is an important skill to learn, but you need to have a teacher that fosters curiosity too! https://t.co/aaaIhtMBmE

Elem teachers, for other elementary teachers who are new on Twitter, who do you recommend they follow? LOTSA Questions!
yes they are consistent and they have to collaborate at least once each week
Agree! Individual prep time is good. Collaborative prep time is a necessity! https://t.co/OvPBWGNaeL
Prep time could probably yield more innovation if teachers teaching like courses had a common prep time for collaboration.
can use to plan their activities
Common prep time must be prioritised. It should be regular and not just one hour here and there
it would be interesting having a common prep time for teachers & have the school's lead learner sit in on a session.

As a MS principal I tried to attend each collaborative team meeting once a week.
Great, - and which Ts collaborate? Ts of similar subjects, or do Ts from different areas come? https://t.co/mYJt0tqJQe
yes they are consistent and they have to collaborate at least once each week
Important to note for teachers when it comes to common prep time: If you do not use it, you will lose it!
In progress If time for collaboration is so important for teachers, how do we schedule a common prep time to accomplish that?
Is it ever possible to organise a full day of t collaboration, as we do for CPD?
In addition, there needs to be a structure for the time. Just saying to collaborate isn't effective.
Collaboration can be accross and . In fact this type of may give best results
- sounds logical. I agree that framing a topic works well this way (just as it does here on ) - thx!
Successful collaboration needs to be ongoing and not a one time meeting.
- just what I was thinking. Cross-collaboration can really be exciting (speaking of innovation).
I taught 8th grade.Principal scheduled DAILY common prep AND lunch 4 cadre of tchrs who taught SAME COHORT of students
I teach elementary school and I've gotten the best ideas from music, PE, and High school teachers!
teachers of similar grade level but would love to have cross grade level meetings as well
Our teachers meet before and after school on their own time. Not ideal - leads to hard feelings and lack of production
Sounds great, - was it as energizing and helpful as it sounds? https://t.co/QxXa87HuNm

I agree-but not 2 much. At times I have been given 2 much&didn't actually get anything creative done! https://t.co/tIDk68QbFz
In addition, there needs to be a structure for the time. Just saying to collaborate isn't effective.
- Easy to see why it would be discouraging. No T needs a longer workday.
Yes. Accountability for collaborative planning time is a great idea, as long as there are few mandates that hinder process
This is true. Our school is wondering how we build in more time for teacher reflection and creativity, not just "prep"
“The question isn’t who is going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me.” —Ayn Rand
Common prep allowed for a parent, or counselor, or outsider to meet with math, sci, ss, lang arts tchrs at the SAME time.
as an elem lead learner I am working to attend meetings twice each month
I agree - but perhaps one day at beginning and end of semester and one hour a week throughout. https://t.co/zH0NdaOJCH
Successful collaboration needs to be ongoing and not a one time meeting.
How might we hang uxorious gamut where fun meets function?
- right? Sometimes those who face different challenges than you are the ones who can offer new ideas.
As a teacher, I feel one hour is v short to collaborate, even if it is once a week
Poor planning by Admins. If innovation is served by collaboration it must be supported. It's not up to the tchrs alone.
A key to good collaboration is trust and shared ideals. That takes time.
Monomoy new school starting times 2017 https://t.co/4vY90WXUU0 Proud of our District-good 4 kids & aligns w/research
That's good too, but common preparation time should be about preparation and not meeting with parents

ABSOLUTELY! Ongoing problem-solving, collaborating, communicating and friendship. Was the BACKBONE of the school.
- agreed. Ts need time when they can be with just colleagues (trusted ones, at that).
Unless, of course, the parents are to be involved in the planned activity
My doc dissertation (last century) was on T reflective practice. Time, structure, and defined and agreed upon outcomes are key.
Excited just hearing about that. Love the "backbone" of the school comment. YESS

True- we did not necessarily MEET Daily- the to do meet was built-in. . Eliminated of teaching.
Wonderful. Just knowing you have similar concerns is empowering.
A little late, but here ;) I'm Katherine. I teach 4th grade LA What's today's topic?
We have 9 x 45 minute collaborative sessions a week - it is awesome &super productive for Ts S outcomes
I was amazed that they were dealing with the same behavior/attitude challenges at a different level
- the more we're different, the more we actually have in common.
Unfortunately, someone must take on a leadership role in a planning meeting or it will go nowhere.
Sometimes IF Ts need to meet with parent(s) of a troubled/problem child. a common time empowers ALL to hear SAME story

are we preparing our students?
That showed me that something foundational at the school needed to change. Wish admin would listen

we use to record notes and keep a 'focus - or agenda
- THAT is amazing. How do you find the time for that many? Fab!
The surest way to shut down Admin support is to waste a collaborative opportunity when it is offered. Plan wisely.
is the best field to seed and grow
that's a great idea! ensures time doesn't get wasted. Do you have book studies at your school?
- can admins ever come and participate once? In a hands-on session? Maybe they'd see the value.
we are lucky that collaboration is a focus, it gives us time to focus on learning & not just admin stuff
Love the "elimination of teaching in isolation" This will help retain teachers https://t.co/8ytjG4Jy8Q

Agreed;it could be helpful in many occasions-as long as they remember that it is primarily for
all our time is collaborative we have 2 Ts per class & the 4 of us are off while Ss go 2 specials
-fantastic! What advice would you give to those struggling to have such collaboration?
this was my big problem: that not getting a stickers and time outs are used instead of OT,PT,SLP and counseling.
- love it. Then you're ready to GO go go when you collaborate. Fab.
thanks for sharing Jerry :)
Sounds like PD which is TOO STRUCTURED instead of ORGANIC as needed. Sometimes we ate lunch and met at same time.

This is effective - we use Onenote to create collaborative agendas so everyone has input - leads to buy-in https://t.co/6zxH4tmoQU
we use to record notes and keep a 'focus - or agenda
gr8 for follow up ?s & confirming discussions etc
--seems like both Onenote and Googledocs would help. Any other ideas?
One idea behind collaborative prep time is that the group elevates each individual by supporting, refining, and delivering ideas.
The idea is to help keep the big picture in mind. It also isn't set in stone. If something is important, discuss it.

This is also a great way to share between collaborative teams within a school and even between schools. Sharing is caring!
early intervention! My son was on an IFSP at 1 month and off it at his year review. Catch it early, fix it early!
This is heartbreaking: teachers working hard and seeing academic improvement, only to have funding cut https://t.co/mWwTuarLUG
I think having purpose is key - achievable outcomes - documenting where all can access is important
Ts prototyping using design thinking to use structures in nature to protect against bodily harm. https://t.co/q9EEebvd0R
Does the tchr have the OPTION to NOT attend? To assess papers, run materials instead? WHO sets the agenda?

yes. this is such a great idea! https://t.co/gfZr4aodup
I think having purpose is key - achievable outcomes - documenting where all can access is important
This is the difference between planning time and collaboration time. They are different.
makes total sense. Do Ts veer off onto one topic from agenda, or do you ever just brainstorm on one item?

We also use the group feature in Office 365. This lets us create and share all our designs
- thanks for mentioning Office 365. Just nice to learn what resources Ts like for collaboration.
THANK YOU for participating in exploration of teacher collaboration. Learned lots from you today. Big thanks to
When I was a MS admin Ts "owned" plan time and the district "owned" collaborative time. Scheduled like any other class
When we consider the rate of change taking place in the world, schools that are standing in place in reality are falling behind.
Begins and ENDS with the admin who DEFINES, SUPPORTS, RESPECTS the .
Owned is a horrible term but 140 characters makes it hard to express sometime.
why is it so easy for schools to get rid of teachers who are innovators and don't conform? teachers need rights

I concur. Back in the day, the UNION DEFINED/DIFFERENTIATED the two. However, s unions lose their clout....
All schools are political & are ruled by political decisions. That's a reality that tchrs have always dealt with.
Owned is appropriate. Tchrs are labor for hire and the company store "owns" the time. LOL

there needs to be the same investment in teachers as students.
