  • robinparton Dec 3 @ 9:17 PM EST
A1: I am still in college, but I love the idea of adapting to the students and teaching the way they learn. All students are different and the teacher should differentiate their instruction to meet the needs of the students. The classroom should be student-centered! #Kinderchat
  • ann_callye Dec 3 @ 9:17 PM EST
At the University of Georgia teachers do such an amazing job at explaining what it takes to succeed. In the syllabus there is clear instruction as to how you can come out with the best grade in that particular class. #kinderchat

  • Ms_RebeccaSmith Dec 3 @ 9:19 PM EST

  • happycampergirl - Moderator Dec 3 @ 9:20 PM EST
I think my school is always striving to be better at #3. We are an intl' school, and always working to be more mindful about what that means. #kinderchat
  • Ms_RebeccaSmith Dec 3 @ 9:20 PM EST
Wow! That’s amazing how many languages are spoken at one school it would be very challenging I feel if those cultures weren’t also embraced to enhance the community. #kinderchat
    In reply to @teachermeg
  • MsYanasmith Dec 3 @ 9:21 PM EST
I think that is amazing. I think all schools should try to do that. When I was in school we only had one language ever spoken in our school. Being adopted from Russia when I was younger, having to learn English was a big struggle for me so that would of helped me. #kinderchat

  • rachaelodellOU Dec 3 @ 9:21 PM EST
While I am still learning, a lot of my classes discuss how we should engage in culturally relevant pedagogy in the classroom. In order to benefit our students the most, we must relate curriculum to them and incorporate different cultures into the classroom. #kinderchat

  • MackenzieStrutt Dec 3 @ 9:22 PM EST
A1: The school I am in right now does a great job at number 10! We are really working on teaching the way that students learn, instead of just expecting them to learn how we teach. #kinderchat

  • Samanth87004885 Dec 3 @ 9:25 PM EST
For prompt, my math class in college is really preparing me to see different ways on how to teach math so students have different ideas on how to solve math. #kinderchat
  • MrsHDominick Dec 3 @ 9:26 PM EST
That is great! I think every school should work hard to make sure that the parents are involved in their child's education. #kinderchat
    In reply to @dubioseducator
  • MackenzieStrutt Dec 3 @ 9:26 PM EST
I agree! I think so many students would benefit from options. We say that they all learn differently so it would make sense that they process and get to the conclusion differently as well! #kinderchat
    In reply to @HillHartman1
  • teachermeg Dec 3 @ 9:26 PM EST
As an administrator, I am working to challenge the staff to think mindfully about number 6. Do our goals for how we hope the children will act and engage with instruction align to the ways we are doing discipline. #kinderchat

#7 Would always encourages us to look at children’s strengths and build on those then the deficit model #kinderchat
  • TonyaBanuelos1 Dec 3 @ 9:28 PM EST
I would like to see #9. I feel like our schools do not get enough help. If we could get more partnerships to help with the students it would help the schools so much. #Kinderchat

    In reply to @AbigailM3804, @dubioseducator
  • MrsHDominick Dec 3 @ 9:28 PM EST
I think this idea is great. Not every student learns the same way. We need to give them a few different ways to achieve the same goal and let them find which way is best for the to achieve it. #kinderchat

  • Woods1stgrade Dec 3 @ 9:29 PM EST
I like the thought of rethink remediation and focus on acceleration, but as budgets have been cut, all summer programs were cut. #kinderchat
  • teachermeg Dec 3 @ 9:29 PM EST
It’s important to keep in mind as we are discussing equity, that we need to reflect on own cultural lens & the implicit biases that stem from our world view. How do we respond when our lens is in conflict with a family’s lens? How do we work together for common goal #kinderchat
  • Ms_RebeccaSmith Dec 3 @ 9:30 PM EST
A2: Seen from observations number 10 on the list I would have loved to see more of the teacher setting aside her beautiful lesson for the couple of students that couldn’t understand and start over teaching them in another way with maybe with some manipulatives. #kinderchat

  • happycampergirl - Moderator Dec 3 @ 9:30 PM EST
i've been thinking about this, too - we teach reading/math, etc as SKILLS THAT CAN BE LEARNED, with differentiated approaches & strategies for ea. We need to do behaviour same way! #kinderchat
    In reply to @teachermeg
  • KeeneeLou Dec 3 @ 9:31 PM EST
If we are keeping the child at the heart of the conversation, and work from that point of view, we should be able to come to consensus. Be flexible, open-minded, and see to understand another's perspective. #kinderchat
    In reply to @teachermeg
  • dubioseducator Dec 3 @ 9:31 PM EST
Important to focus on what we agree with. We need to Listen to parents concerns, thoughts and suggestions. Make it about what’s best for the child and not set up an adversarial situation #kinderchat
    In reply to @teachermeg
  • happycampergirl - Moderator Dec 3 @ 9:32 PM EST
Cultural differences in beliefs re: children, learning, success can make this so tricky. All parents want success for their children, but what that LOOKS LIKE can vary greatly. #kinderchat
    In reply to @teachermeg
  • Woods1stgrade Dec 3 @ 9:32 PM EST
That's why small group and individual teaching is best, whole group doesn't hit many Ss, I love your statement of setting aside the beautiful lesson plan, and give them what they need in their way #kinderchat

Exactly. Why do we spend so much time punishing children for behavior rather than taking the intentional time to model and teach the skills and ways of being in a community that we want them to learn? I suspect emotions and biases have a lot to do with it. #kinderchat

Hill, I totally agree with you. I know when I was in school it was so hard for me to learn they wanted me to because I learn differently. I think we do need to teach students more than one way to learn. Everyone is different and it is unfair to teach one way. #kinderchat
    In reply to @HillHartman1
  • edu_ksSkukalek Dec 3 @ 9:33 PM EST
We you hear a T blame their performance on their circumstances whatever they may be, its a problem. Then, they don't do anything to improve their performance for the benefit of the S, that's a bigger problem. If your isn't learning, find the way to teach him/her #kinderchat
