Welcome to tonight's Twitter chat about !
To start, introduce yourself and tell us where you're from.
Q1: What has your school done to prepare you for life after graduation?
Max R. from San Diego, CA but starting my last month in DC!
A:5 cont..Once students are comfort and natural with stems they give and receive feedback from each other in all contexts
My school has career centers and my advisors are always asking how what I am studying relates to my career goals.
Q1: in HS, had a strong college going culture with amazing support to make it happen.
This is the type of preparation all Ss should have access to. https://t.co/RVKONPc41e
My school has career centers and my advisors are always asking how what I am studying relates to my career goals.
Q2: How do you feel about your schools current career services and resume preparation help?
I wish I could say the same for my current situation...
A2: in a first semester class, a resume and cover letter were apart of a required assignment that we could submit
Great to hear, ! What kind of feedback did you receive? https://t.co/5z8vC8PMVw
A2: in a first semester class, a resume and cover letter were apart of a required assignment that we could submit
the guidance was useful and I've been able to submit that exact resume and cover letter to internships!
Q3: Would you take a course at school centered around preparing for interviews and finding a job?
Im fortunate my HS has the and I had to make a resume my sophomore yr. wish more schools had this access.
no services w/ complete path from n00b to expert, so many "core courses"
Q3: absolutely! Having solid interview skills is the first step to putting other skills into practice
I don't know if a course is necessary. I do believe that every school should ensure every student has access to support.
yes! I think job preparation is so important for high school students.
A3: We had a course at my school but it gave general advice. Important to remember that every interview and job is unique.
Thanks for the reply, . Did your school offer something similar? https://t.co/wgj9P7D5zK
yes! I think job preparation is so important for high school students.
best services might be networking w/ people in the field, hearing how they used in real world
my school doesn't give us much preparation for our futures outside of applying for colleges.
Has your school offered any services similar to this? https://t.co/dCqomIub3r
best services might be networking w/ people in the field, hearing how they used in real world
A problem we see far too often. https://t.co/MIzsRqqlPA
my school doesn't give us much preparation for our futures outside of applying for colleges.
Q4: Has your school ever offered a course or service which teaches you "life skills" such as personal finance?
high schools should definitely make sure Ss leave know financial basics
college had career day once/semester, economics club 2-3 trips/speakers, hosts weekly events
A4: in 11th grade we had the "EconoME" project where we had to hypothetically manage personal finances and budgets
No, but I have recognized widespread desire among students for these skills to be directly integrated into curriculum.
Hopefully we can see more of this replicated at Schools around the country. https://t.co/6IZb5oYMKb
college had career day once/semester, economics club 2-3 trips/speakers, hosts weekly events
we talked about this at the roundtable with and all agreed
Q5: What other services do you hope to see offered to Ss to prepare them for the "real world"?
Classes should be directly tied into real world issues. No more mock experiences or mock problem solving .
Q3: What does it mean to "publish." What value does blogging add? How do you scale in today’s participatory culture?
A5: I've said it before -INTERNSHIPS.My internship was life changing & I encourage all HS stus to do the same!
That's a wrap on tonight's Twitter chat! You can learn more about @http://goo.gl/Wgh6TH
