  • iowajonhuebner Dec 5 @ 8:09 PM EST
A1. Oh yes it will. To ensure that it happens, we have to connect tech to the SAMR model and make sure that we are not having them do task that are replacing the paper versions, but being inventive with tech. #5thchat

A1- Yes it will! Students can work on interactive websites, breakouts, Nearpod presentations, etc. to keep their minds engaged in the lesson and teach them how to problem solve. #5thchat
  • mrsseibel5th - Moderator Dec 5 @ 8:10 PM EST
A1: Integrating technology should be used to help enhance the lesson, as long as your are not using it to replace a worksheet it will enhance any lesson. If it is same just a worksheet on steroids then nope it won't enhance #5thchat
  • T_HEB Dec 5 @ 8:11 PM EST
A1 Yes, #edtech will provide opportunities to develop cognitive and problem solving skills when integrated with purpose and intent. Collaboration and reflection need to be part of the picture. #5thchat

  • sdtitmas Dec 5 @ 8:12 PM EST
A1 The biggest piece is of integrating Tech is to make sure it serves an actual purpose. Make sure it’s not tech just for tech’s sake. Think SAMR or similar models. #5thChat
    In reply to @marlobarnett
  • HelenArndt34 Dec 5 @ 8:13 PM EST
A1: I think that incorporating technology in my classroom will definitely help with problem solving skills. Incorporating things like iPads for the students to use learning games or even having the option to listen to text could be helpful. #5thChat

Q2 - Will tech integration increase student engagement and keep them excited about learning? How might we ensure that happens? #5thchat
  • MelanieGrace95 Dec 5 @ 8:13 PM EST
SAMR S=Substitution M=Modification A=Augmentation R=Redefinition. Each level is integrating more technology to enhance learning #5thchat
  • marlobarnett Dec 5 @ 8:14 PM EST
    I definitely agree #5thchat
    In reply to @sdtitmas
  • T_HEB Dec 5 @ 8:14 PM EST
However, the classic SAMR model leads people to think it is a race to the top. If integration is to be purposeful it needs to fluctuate. I prefer the swimming pool model. https://t.co/LsQD94sQiO #5thchat #edtechchat
    In reply to @marlobarnett, @iowajonhuebner
  • iowajonhuebner Dec 5 @ 8:14 PM EST
Here is the SAMR model showing the different ways tech can be used in instruction, from low end, substituting the regular way of completing a task, to redefinition, thinking outside of the box. #5thchat

  • MelanieGrace95 Dec 5 @ 8:15 PM EST
What is the swimming pool model? #5thchat
  • mrsz1990 Dec 5 @ 8:15 PM EST
Tech can definitely crease learning and problem solving if used with intention. Teachers are able to allow their students to access the world and have a global audience. We need to be providing more than a video game experience. #5thchat
  • TNording Dec 5 @ 8:15 PM EST
1A: Technology is a tool to transform teaching and student learning. How is what you are doing is different from 2 yrs, 5yr, or even 10 yrs ago. Technology provides an even playing field for all students. It is an equalizer. #5thchat
  • marlobarnett Dec 5 @ 8:15 PM EST
This looks great! Thanks for sharing! #5thchat

A2- Tech integration is ever changing and exciting for younger kids especially. We can use goal setting techniques to help! #5thchat
  • HelenArndt34 Dec 5 @ 8:15 PM EST
A2: I definitely think so! It brings new and exciting ways for students to learn subjects they might not be interested in at first. #5thChat
  • LivyySteverson Dec 5 @ 8:15 PM EST
We can insure this by always leaving our students options. They eventually find something they prefer/enjoy using and they could use it more often in or out of the class. It is so question that students love learning new things, so this will keep them excited! #5thchat
  • marlobarnett Dec 5 @ 8:17 PM EST
Absolutely, when students have choices in learning they own it! #5thchat
    In reply to @LivyySteverson
  • dot2teach Dec 5 @ 8:17 PM EST
A2 We need the right type of Ss engagement when using tech. Ss need to be engaged while learning not playing. #5thchat
  • T_HEB Dec 5 @ 8:17 PM EST
A2 I find that #edtech does keep Ss engaged. Integration brings relevance to our classroom. Their learning matches their world. Amplifying their voice through tech further empowers our learners (podcasts, blogs, tweets). #5thchat #edtechchat
  • MrBaskwill Dec 5 @ 8:17 PM EST
A2: It will as long as it is meaningful. Students are typically tech interested, so pulling to interests will always bring engagement and interest. Need it to be something worth doing, tech wont save a bad lesson #5thchat
  • AnibalPachecoIT Dec 5 @ 8:17 PM EST
A1 You have to place pedagogy first. How does the #edtech used will help you to meet the learning need? Think about its purpose and the desired outcome. #5thchat
  • joannavrteaches Dec 5 @ 8:17 PM EST
A2 engagement in learning is more than quietly working and watching a tech tool. How invested is the S in the activity? Ownership? #5thchat
    • marlobarnett Dec 5 @ 8:13 PM EST
Q2 - Will tech integration increase student engagement and keep them excited about learning? How might we ensure that happens? #5thchat
  • mrsseibel5th - Moderator Dec 5 @ 8:17 PM EST
A2: Several ways can help, find new ways to present information, let them take control of "figuring out" how it works. Like using @ABCyaGames to let them create Vocab words #5thchat #GIFvocab
  • marlobarnett Dec 5 @ 8:18 PM EST
Q3 - Can teachers and students personalize learning with technology integration? Explain how we can do this. #5thchat
  • mrsz1990 Dec 5 @ 8:18 PM EST
A2- Today’sstudents live in a tech infused world. It is very motivating to them! We need to be sure to keep it fresh and challenging! #5thchat
  • MadiBrandt2 Dec 5 @ 8:19 PM EST
Edmodo is incredible for personalization. It's like Facebook for school and certain classes, yet more professional. #5thchat
  • rennix_michelle Dec 5 @ 8:19 PM EST
A2 - Depends on how the tec is used and the T's excitement. Combine it with offering choice, connecting to real world applications, and don't overuse. I try to use a variety of tools b/c not everything appeals to everyone. #5thchat
  • joannavrteaches Dec 5 @ 8:20 PM EST
A3 when Ss are allowed voice and choice in how they can use tech to demonstrate knowledge or gain knowledge it can become more personalized. #5thchat
    • marlobarnett Dec 5 @ 8:18 PM EST
Q3 - Can teachers and students personalize learning with technology integration? Explain how we can do this. #5thchat
  • HelenArndt34 Dec 5 @ 8:20 PM EST
A3: I think that teachers can find their own techniques when incorporating technology. For example, many teachers may use a SmartBoard, but have different activities and uses for it in their own class. #5thChat
  • LivyySteverson Dec 5 @ 8:20 PM EST
A3: Personalizing lessons is always a great option for teachers. Every classroom works and learns differently, as well as every student. If the amount and types of tech are personalized for the class, learning will be much easier #5thchat
  • TNording Dec 5 @ 8:20 PM EST
A2: Technology is a great tool to help with student engagement. But, also giving students voice and choice when creating is essential to increase student motivation. #5thchat
    • marlobarnett Dec 5 @ 8:13 PM EST
Q2 - Will tech integration increase student engagement and keep them excited about learning? How might we ensure that happens? #5thchat
  • MsShute Dec 5 @ 8:20 PM EST
A2: absolutely! Ss should be able to use what they know..increased motivation and desire to work using this format..again tech activities should be meaningful #5thchat
  • madsgladstone Dec 5 @ 8:20 PM EST
Nearpod is an interactive Powerpoint where everyone has the same presentation on a mobile device, when the T moves to the next slide so does the Ss's. It has many different features of formative assessment throughout the lesson (multiple choice, short-answer, draw, etc) #5thchat
    In reply to @MsShute
  • MadiBrandt2 Dec 5 @ 8:20 PM EST
A3- Edmodo is incredible for personalization. It's like Facebook for school and certain classes, yet more professional. #5thchat
  • MrBaskwill Dec 5 @ 8:21 PM EST
A3: Ss with choice and the ability to add their own voice and image make it very personal. A video reflection, or "how to" to show understanding is a great way to go #5thchat
  • MsShute Dec 5 @ 8:21 PM EST
A3: tech is a great way to provide multiple entry points - videos, texts, different leveled sites, personalized activities through google classroom #5thchat
  • iowajonhuebner Dec 5 @ 8:21 PM EST
A3. Yes, I think different tech apps and educational websites make it much easier to personalize education. We have lots of information available to use via the "old" way of digging through piles of resource books to get the personalize ed. #5thchat
  • marlobarnett Dec 5 @ 8:21 PM EST
Yes, every classroom is unique #5thchat
    In reply to @HelenArndt34
  • dot2teach Dec 5 @ 8:21 PM EST
A3 Personalized learning is one of the many great things about tech. Ss have ownership, set goals, make plans, build their learning plan. Make sure Ss explain how the tech is going to help get them to their goal. #5thchat
  • AnibalPachecoIT Dec 5 @ 8:22 PM EST
A2 It depends on how #edtech is used. Sometimes we use technology when it is not needed thus hindering the learning experience and our Ss potential. #5thchat
  • MsShute Dec 5 @ 8:22 PM EST
    Awesome! Thanks! #5thchat
    In reply to @madsgladstone
  • mrsseibel5th - Moderator Dec 5 @ 8:22 PM EST
A3: Yes give them choice example we took our leveled readers and I let Ss choose which book to read then they "read and roll" and choose to present #5thchat
  • T_HEB Dec 5 @ 8:23 PM EST
A3 Learning can be personalized without #edtech. However, integration opens up new pathways to success & removes barriers to lrng. Personalized menus, T created videos, backchannels, and plenty of choice. #5thchat
  • MsShute Dec 5 @ 8:23 PM EST
Yes! Love using @Seesaw in our class for those video reflections/how tos #5thchat
    In reply to @MrBaskwill, @Seesaw
  • TNording Dec 5 @ 8:24 PM EST
A3: Yes! If you have a good LMS that provides completion rules for Ss. It makes it possible for your Ss to self-pace through a unit or a topic. Students take assessments when they feel they are ready. Not when the teacher thinks all students are ready. @Schoology #5thchat
    • marlobarnett Dec 5 @ 8:18 PM EST
Q3 - Can teachers and students personalize learning with technology integration? Explain how we can do this. #5thchat
  • marlobarnett Dec 5 @ 8:24 PM EST
Q4 - Will technology integration affect my teaching pedagogy? How so? #5thchat
  • madsgladstone Dec 5 @ 8:24 PM EST
Q2- Yes! Technology is something that gets kids so excited. I think that anything having to do with a screen will make any child want to participate and learn. We can pick fun activities and switch up the activities so that the Ss don't get bored of the same tech tools. #5thchat
  • WillRojasT Dec 5 @ 8:24 PM EST
A3: yes. Technology provides chances to learn to each student by setting the correct activity. #5thchat
  • dot2teach Dec 5 @ 8:25 PM EST
Check out @Flipgrid if you aren't familiar with it. My Ss choose this to show their learning.#5thchat
  • rennix_michelle Dec 5 @ 8:25 PM EST
A3: Yes, but when doing PBL, Ts need to make sure they leave room for creativity and don't just give a checklist. Let Ss bring their own strengths. I give menu options, we use @Seesaw and let the Ss choose the tool. #5thchat
  • marlobarnett Dec 5 @ 8:26 PM EST
A4 There is an art 2 teaching regardless of tech integration. Ur teaching style an philosophy shud only b enhanced wit using tech #5thchat
  • MadiBrandt2 Dec 5 @ 8:26 PM EST
Yes! I always want to be flexible and open-minded to new ideas. I want to relate to the students and listen to their interests. #5thchat
  • AnibalPachecoIT Dec 5 @ 8:26 PM EST
A3 Absolutely! You can start by empowering Ss to take charge of their learning, pique their curiosity by having them offer up #edtech suggestions. You'll be amazed how much they know but we have to ask. #5thchat
  • T_HEB Dec 5 @ 8:26 PM EST
A3 Best personalization technique is to encourage S creativity. Ts need to release some control. Let lego creations or a one word poster become the springboard to reflecting understanding. #5thchat #CreateWithPurpose
  • MadiBrandt2 Dec 5 @ 8:27 PM EST
A4. Yes! I always want to be flexible and open-minded to new ideas. I want to relate to the students and listen to their interests #5thchat
  • LivyySteverson Dec 5 @ 8:27 PM EST
It doesn’t have to! Many teachers nowadays fall victim to leaning on technology too much. This often happens bc the students know more about the tech than they do. If a teacher takes the time to learn and balance out their lesson, it will seem like it never changed. #5thchat
  • MsShute Dec 5 @ 8:27 PM EST
A4: tech should enhance teaching if it’s purposeful and helpful - tech should not become our teaching #5thchat
  • marlobarnett Dec 5 @ 8:27 PM EST
Yes! Switching up and more activities creates more engagement #5thchat
    In reply to @madsgladstone
  • WillRojasT Dec 5 @ 8:28 PM EST
We all are different teacher with unique teaching styles. And we have to use tech in for us. #5thchat
  • joannavrteaches Dec 5 @ 8:28 PM EST
A4 hopefully the integration of technology will enhance your pedagogy! Good teaching and curriculum should come first. Technology is a road to help you guide Ss to the end goal. #5thchat
  • HelenArndt34 Dec 5 @ 8:28 PM EST
I think that technology integration would affect my teaching practices. I hope to work with special-needs children and hope to be able to track down as much assistive technology as I can to enhance my students' learning experience. #5thChat
  • AnibalPachecoIT Dec 5 @ 8:29 PM EST
A4 Only if you fall into the "bells and whistles" trap. IMHO, the best Ts are those who can teach w/o little or no #edtech but demonstrate genuine care and interest about the subject at hand. #5thchat
  • T_HEB Dec 5 @ 8:29 PM EST
A4 Tech integration will change teaching practice. It is unavoidable as #edtech tools have the power to improve teaching and lrng but it should not change the foundation of teaching philosophy. #5thchat
  • madsgladstone Dec 5 @ 8:29 PM EST
A3- Ts can personalize learning by creating their own questions for a Kahoot and making a friendly competition out of it in the classroom #5thchat
  • WillRojasT Dec 5 @ 8:29 PM EST
A4: we are all unique teachers and our styles are awesome. Tech can bring chances to improve in our daily practices. #5thchat
  • marlobarnett Dec 5 @ 8:30 PM EST
Yes, I like making it a game #5thchat
    In reply to @madsgladstone
  • TNording Dec 5 @ 8:30 PM EST
A4: Maybe...but understanding teaching and student learning encompassed with good instruction and technology integration is priceless. As Emeril would say..."Kicking it up a Notch!" #5thchat
  • HelenArndt34 Dec 5 @ 8:31 PM EST
A4: I think that technology integration would affect my teaching practices. I hope to work with special-needs children and hope to be able to track down as much assistive technology as I can to enhance my students' learning experience. #5thChat
  • AnibalPachecoIT Dec 5 @ 8:31 PM EST
Agreed, all Ts like their learners are different and we should not put everyone in a box specially when it comes to the integration of #edtech for instruction. #5thchat
    In reply to @WillRojasT

Pre-service teachers please remember that no matter how great tech is , nothing replaces a conversation with a student. #5thchat
  • rennix_michelle Dec 5 @ 8:31 PM EST
A4: I think teaching pedagogy comes first. I know I want my classroom to be student-centered, and technology is just one way to help me accomplish that goal. I do get reenergized when I see new ideas though. #5thchat

Bingo! Learning is about relationships and making a connection with your learners. Technology can help but it will never replace the human touch; the caring heart of a Teacher. #5thchat
    In reply to @dot2teach
  • Jessica_Murray9 Dec 5 @ 8:33 PM EST
I think technology can be very beneficial to students and should be integrated in the classroom. However, I believe tech should enhance ones teaching and the students learning. Using technology in the classroom should help us teach instead of becoming the way we teach. #5thchat
  • marlobarnett Dec 5 @ 8:34 PM EST
Q5 - Will I be able to integrate technology with my diverse learners? What might this look like? #5thchat

We have to stop looking at technology as an add-on or an extra. It is an integral part of the world our students live in, and they will NEED technology skills. Many of our students will even CREATE the technology of the future. #EdTech #DitchBook #TLAP #KidsDeserveIt #ETcoaches
  • MadiBrandt2 Dec 5 @ 8:36 PM EST
I think it's important to have a mix of everyone's learning styles. To help, something fun like Peardeck takes quizzes and drawings #5thchat
  • MrBaskwill Dec 5 @ 8:36 PM EST
A5: Integrating tech with diverse learners is a fantastic way to support and challenge them #5thchat
  • marlobarnett Dec 5 @ 8:36 PM EST
A5 Using tech tools that are flexible and there are various assistive tech tools that teachers can integrate #5thchat
  • HelenArndt34 Dec 5 @ 8:36 PM EST
A5: I think that there are forms of technology to fit every type of learner. Students that are behind can get extra practice, and students that might be ahead can accelerate their learning through technology. #5thChat
  • LivyySteverson Dec 5 @ 8:37 PM EST
A5: That is one of the beauties of tech; it can appeal to several learning styles. It can also help everyone feel involved without putting anyone on the spot for shy students in the class. #5thchat
  • WillRojasT Dec 5 @ 8:37 PM EST

Q6 - Will parents be able to assist their child with a technology integrated project or assignment? Explain how we can do this. #5thchat
  • AnibalPachecoIT Dec 5 @ 8:39 PM EST
A5 Yes! but you got to know them first, establish a rapport and let them share their diverse cultural backgrounds, values and beliefs to foster understanding of one another. That is is OK to be different and that when it comes to #edtech there is something for everyone. #5thchat
  • TNording Dec 5 @ 8:39 PM EST

A6: Since some parents are still behind on the tech trend, it is always going to be a little more difficult. There are many tech based ways to connect with the parents and make sure they know what’s in the class, but some still may be hesitant to use it. #5thchat
  • madsgladstone Dec 5 @ 8:40 PM EST
A5: Yes! Tech tools are a great way to get every kind of learner involved. I also think that every kid responds to technology esp living in the 21st C #5thchat
  • HelenArndt34 Dec 5 @ 8:40 PM EST
A6: I think that if parents are familiar with technology, they would be able to assist. However, it is the teacher's job to make sure students are comfortable with said technology before assigning at-home projects. #5thChat
  • marlobarnett Dec 5 @ 8:40 PM EST
A6 Planning ahead of time and demo for parents the tech tool can get them involved #5thchat
  • rennix_michelle Dec 5 @ 8:40 PM EST
A5: Technology is so helpful for diverse learners. Ts and Ss creating visuals, text to speech, speech to text. @Flipgrid with ELL students and those that have difficulty putting thoughts into writing. So many possibilities. #5thchat
  • marlobarnett Dec 5 @ 8:42 PM EST
Yes, there is so much assistive technology for diverse learners #5thchat

  • AnibalPachecoIT Dec 5 @ 8:42 PM EST
A6 Yes, but we need to engage Ps and make them partners in the learning experience. Start by keeping them informed & provide as much information as possible about the #edtech you plan to use in the classroom. #5thchat
  • iowajonhuebner Dec 5 @ 8:43 PM EST
A6. Involving parents is an area we need to work on. As more apps are availble to share information to parents, we also need to make sure we are taking the time to educate our parents too. It is not the same school they went to as kids. #5thchat

Q7 - Can technology be integrated across all content areas and standards? Please describe how this can be done. #5thchat
  • madsgladstone Dec 5 @ 8:45 PM EST
A6: Yes! Parents, if they know how to use the tech, will be able to help their children. When I have my own classroom one day, I will try to contact the parents through a tech tool (bloomz, remind, etc) and explain the assignment to them so that they can help their child #5thchat
  • dot2teach Dec 5 @ 8:45 PM EST
A6 Right now I am thrilled to have parents keep up with @Seesaw . The kids love to see their parents comments on projects. #5thchat
  • rennix_michelle Dec 5 @ 8:46 PM EST
A6: I would hope Ss would be able to teach their parents. Tech shouldn't be a barrier. I make myself available to help. I've walked parents through steps on the phone, recorded example videos @Screencastify #5thchat
  • MadiBrandt2 Dec 5 @ 8:47 PM EST
A7. Yes! Technology is evolving fast theres an app or website for nearly everything except maybe hand writing. I like Khan Academy! #5thchat
  • WillRojasT Dec 5 @ 8:47 PM EST
A7: by discussing the school project among stuff and stablishing patterns to use in the coming school year. #5thchat
  • HelenArndt34 Dec 5 @ 8:47 PM EST
A7: I believe that it can. This can be done by collaborating with other teachers to get ideas and using cross-curricular teaching methods. #5thChat
  • LivyySteverson Dec 5 @ 8:47 PM EST
A7: It really depends on how the teacher uses it and how the students respond. There are many subjects that need technology to teach accurately, like science. With others like math, it can be helpful, but more students respond by doing more of the work traditionally #5thchat
  • madsgladstone Dec 5 @ 8:48 PM EST
Q7: Definitely! There is tech available for every grade and every subject area. Nearpod is an awesome tool for this, as well as other interactive websites and whiteboards #5thchat
  • marlobarnett Dec 5 @ 8:48 PM EST
Yes! By collaborating with teachers #5thchat

Q8 - What are the safety & security risks involved with technology integration? How can these risks be overcome? #5thchat
  • AnibalPachecoIT Dec 5 @ 8:51 PM EST
A7 The first question should always be, How will technology help to meet the standard? If you can't answer it. Talk to your next door Ts and join a Twitter chat like this one to find what works or has not for other Ts. #5thchat

  • TNording Dec 5 @ 8:51 PM EST
A7: Project-based learning in various academic areas.. Allowing students to create projects using tech tools of their choice. Must think about incorporating the 4 C's - create, collaborate, communicate, and critical thinking skills. #5thchat
  • marlobarnett Dec 5 @ 8:52 PM EST
A8 Lessons should be taught on digital citizenship and Ts shud be aware of all security risk with the software or program. #5thchat
  • rennix_michelle Dec 5 @ 8:52 PM EST
A7: Yes! A universal goal should be for Ss to express/explain their learning and thought process, and there are many ways to do this. For example, Ss record vid of their music piece or how to solve a math problem, create mind maps for diff topics, etc. #5thchat
  • WillRojasT Dec 5 @ 8:52 PM EST
A8: eventually, yes. And those risks can be overcome by adapting the class depending on the level and style of students. #5thchat
  • TNording Dec 5 @ 8:53 PM EST
Create a Code of Digital Conduct. Model, model, and model best practices. Don't forget to integrate digital citizenship into your lessons. #5thchat

Q8 - What are the safety & security risks involved with technology integration? How can these risks be overcome? #5thchat
  • MadiBrandt2 Dec 5 @ 8:53 PM EST
A8: cyberbullying is huge. All info on the sites should be viewed by the teacher, and just used with that certain class #5thchat
  • LivyySteverson Dec 5 @ 8:54 PM EST
A8: If the tech your using is internet or computer based, there’s always going to be little sneaks trying to take advantage of it. in a time like 5th grade, kids get curious and rebellious. If you’re using the Internet, make sure your school has good security blocks #5thchat
  • HelenArndt34 Dec 5 @ 8:55 PM EST
A8: When using technology, students could over-explore the internet, leading to things like predators and cyber-bullying. Teachers should be proactive about making sure students know internet safety. #5thChat
  • madsgladstone Dec 5 @ 8:55 PM EST
A8- It is very important to make sure that the students know how to be safe on the internet. I think that b4 any tech stuff is done in the classroom, Ts need to have a "internet safety" day where Ts discuss what information is never to be shared on the internet w/ the Ss #5thchat
  • AnibalPachecoIT Dec 5 @ 8:55 PM EST
A8 Privary, Cyberbullying, FERPA, and CIPA come to mind here. However, we should always model what right looks like if we are to nurture our Ss as global citizens of the world. Blocking everything is not the answer... #5thchat
  • madsgladstone Dec 5 @ 8:56 PM EST
Very sad but true. I like what you said about how the sites should be monitored by the teacher. #5thchat

A8 ... and if it is ask yourself, What will my learners do once they leave my classroom? We can build walled gardens at school but the real world is a whole different story. Our job is to prepare them for that! #5thchat

Q10 - What are some resources or best practices for integrating technology into the classroom? Please share! #5thchat
  • rennix_michelle Dec 5 @ 8:59 PM EST
A8: The internet gives the ability to connect with others around the world, which can be great, but approach with caution. Some platforms allow control of sharing S work. Ts can also look for other classes to connect with through tools like twitter, seesaw, flipgrid. #5thchat
  • TNording Dec 5 @ 8:59 PM EST
