Global #gtchat Powered by TAGT is a weekly chat on Twitter that takes place on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT and 5 p.m. PT in the U.S. For one hour, parents, educators, advocates and experts in the field of gifted and talented gather to share resources, links, authentic life experiences and insights about gifted issues.
#gtchat stands for gifted/talented, includes parents and is about to start! #g2great starts half an hour later and is on a buncha stuff, often literacy, and the students (called the "bow tie boys") are on only occasionally, but it's very welcoming to all. #WhatIsSchool

We are already halfway through our chat! Thank you for sharing so many inspiring thoughts about Twitter tips for GT teachers! Please remember to use the #gtchat hashtag to participate in the conversation. #gtchat
Yes, though my lesson was a little opposite. I started by blocking what I perceived as irrelevant accounts, then realized I could never keep up. I do follow back almost any educator automatically, in part to build P/T relationships. I appreciate that they'd follow me. #gtchat A3

A4) Understand the importance of the hashtag, its purpose and how to use it. Look for existing hashtags; they are how Twitter is indexed. Don’t make up hashtags just to emphasize a topic/idea. CAPS work for that. #gtchat
If you're hesitant, join with a friend or colleague. It's really fun once you're in it. The best tip is to dive in, with supports if necessary. #LoveTwitter#gtchat A4
A4) Do not set your Twitter account to ‘private’ if you want to join a Twitter chat. Only your followers will see your tweets. If you’re a teacher concerned about privacy, set up a separate account for chats. #gtchat
A4) It’s easier than you think to participate in a Twitter chat. During your first chat, consider simply introducing yourself. AND don’t forget to add the hashtag is you aren’t using a platform that adds it for you! #gtchat

As I've noted, this chat is unique in its inclusion of parents. So that's a unique opportunity to connect with other stakeholders. Maybe build coalitions beyond the chat. #gtchat A5
A5) Teachers can use #gtchat to build a PLN, to build a collection of resources and find other teachers to collaborate with on projects. More #gtchat information found on the blog and Facebook group

Just want to point out that #gtchat was the first one I joined (circa November 2014?), and I'm VERY curious to look it up to see how I approached it. As a parent, I'm sure it helped to be in this one first. Thank you for welcoming me into this world!
