Great - our first question for tonight is coming up in just a few moments!
This has been a little controversial and since times are changing we'd love to hear about...
Q1: What academic standards do you use, and how do you communicate them to parents and students?
You may find it helpful to answer in Q1/A1 format, and remember to add our hashtag to the end of each Tweet!

A1: I always like the Teaching Channel's videos on how to share Common Core with your students: https://t.co/iHn2T5b9VW
A1: And I know Common Core itself put out information "parents should know" https://t.co/qv6r5oe8tP but do you adapt it?
Thanks! I'm adding it to our chat for everyone to see and learn from using our hashtag at the end https://t.co/eqFRaWRnSS
I am in TX - we use state standards (TEKS). I write st friendly statements for class; introduce them beginning, middle, or end +
Additional thoughts from https://t.co/ZEnRhGMvBO
+ depending on the type of lesson (direct, discovery, etc). I put lessons on my website for sts and parents. +
A1: I'm also really excited to hear how NGSS adoption is going around the country - what do all the science teachers think?
A1: I know NGSS has put out some infographics on why Science standards needed to be updated: https://t.co/ZpKQsGAQI6
A1: how do you know that parents are reading the website/weekly emails? do they send you replies/followups?
Additional comments from on sharing standards with parents: https://t.co/mZs1dM6aRX
+ In weekly emails to parents I describe briefly what we are learning - I don't send them standards, but paraphrase broadly.
Our question 2 is coming up in just a few moments...
I don't know that they read the website. Occasionally I received replies from the weekly emails.
Thoughts from about introducing Classkick to parents: https://t.co/HM0BEIEP3b
I modified the tutorial lesson and added examples of assignments I've given in class.
Q2: How do you respond if or when children struggle in class in those first days back?
Ideas from about expanding the Classkick Marketplace: https://t.co/0qMOT4XPNS
I think we need a way to share/buy assignments with the ClassKick community!! I know I can with teachers I know. 😍

No problems! Q3: How are creativity and innovative thinking used on a daily basis in your classroom?
A3: I loved brainstorming open-ended projects in the first few weeks back to school with students. Just big questions...
A3: Anything they thought about during the summer or wondered that they were interested in learning this school year
A3: And then tying it into Bloom's Taxonomy and how at the "Create" level, students should develop a project to answer it
A3: I bet the big thing for this school year, if it wasn't already, is the 20 Time/ Genius Hour idea for students
Our Question #4 is coming up shortly! Grab a colleague and join us in our back to school chat! https://t.co/r3iQ8tmwAx

A4: We definitely ran with the Pizza Hut/Book It Campaign to get students reading with their parents.
A4: And we asked all teachers to introduce their students to a reading log that their parents had to sign each evening.
A4: I think it worked better for some students and families than others, but the expectation has to be set for the school.
A4: I like sharing Reading Rocket tips w/parents to help them get started reading to their children: https://t.co/LJkxPAewmc

A5: I think the first part of personalized learning in my classroom was always that students were learning from each other.
A5: Because there is only one of me and 30+ of the students, encouraging and teaching them to lead = instant helpers
A5: But more than that, when students were the explainers - they learned more and they explained concepts differently
A5: Their language was inherently more "student-centric" because they were speaking like themselves!
