First week+ went very well...house system induction and heritage day, new schedule, and 3-day all school retreat at a ranch.
funny how we all start at different times across the country.
it felt like what I hoped it would...supportive faculty, gr8 kids + confident teaching. Thx!

Good morning Marcie, finishing up my app for Google Innovator today.
Hey Marcie! How are you doing, how is your new role going and how is your state doing? Inquiring minds...
Best of luck! Getting to be lvl 1 cert. edu was a lot of work-- is innovator difficult to earn?

How will you all be teaching about Mother Teresa's Canonization on Sept 4th this week?
I have a combined 5th/6th homeroom. Would that work?
I had a good 1st week! It was awesome talking about God's creation & celebrating the National Parks! https://t.co/wKrEPik0uU
You will be great! You know we are all here if you need us!
Tourism! (seriously, I remember when this was a big issue growing up)
so cool! I know some 4th grade families took advantage of the free admission to the National parks this summer.
ive said it b4- twitter makes every teacher so much stronger- gr8, talented ts
Yes actually the Gov. Tourism lobby is upset with growing waivers and is fighting to make it binding. ,
we're in process of creating something, especially when we have a House of Mother Teresa in house system.
Been putting together the content for the newsletter. Will share with all of you when it goes out!
That's the thought process on the east coast. Labor Day is all about the beach!
Good morning from a raining Iowa.
Supposed to be helping plan something for Bl Teresa, but my head is wrapped up science & 8 Rel plans
Don't you wish we could send some of it to CA? Raining again here!
You have to pass Level 2 which I actually thought was easier. I finished early. Barely finished L1 in time
I thought Lvl 1 was a tad tedious, but not terribly difficult. Good encouragement to go for lvl 2!
Good morning Checking in at the pediatrician's office- yay swimmers ear
Special prayers dedicated toward her and inspired by her. Reflections on her quotes. https://t.co/2nbxA7GqPl
How will you all be teaching about Mother Teresa's Canonization on Sept 4th this week?
Innovator is competitive application process They only take around 30 per cohort - worth the work
We are praying for no tropical systems. Grounds still saturated
How often do they select a cohort? annually?
Hi from STL , jumping in a little late. Moving slow this morning, but ready to chat.
Was one in Feb., one in June, now selecting for Canada cohort
looking forward to seeing that, Marcie
Gonna be honest, teaching about Bl Teresa is hard for me. She is dear to my heart, and I get a little emotional!
Good Morning ! Running around with the boys doing back to school errands today!
Good morning late start today.

This is the third one this year so I am going to say 3 or 4 per year.

so happy one of her quotes is our theme this school year.
Any suggestions for a SS in 1:1 with a history of being a very good hacker and using inappropriately.
Wow! Kudos to you & your school! This looks awesome.
Question: any of you involved w/podcasts and love the platform you are using?
St. Isidore of Seville will be on prayer speed dial for you!
So excited for your school this year.
gets to work with chalk and slate only?
JK!
This looks like a modern college classroom- incredible!
Used and also hosted on worked well
have a sit down about consequences Enforce them as needed. Try to find tasks for that student to engage them
There's always something going on in Sydney!
Thanks for that info. We are looking for a platform now to get ours off the ground this year.
I use (see my last post for a vid I made with it)
Yep put that student into useful helping role
check out for free activities or ones for purchase...fairly hacker proof I would think
I used with younger ones and then embedded on my T website
I'm writing a course call Social Justice Studies...anyone have any resources to use to explain SJ to 8th graders?

great question! I look to the Jesuits for many ideas on SJ. Check with
so exciting to see this vision become a reality!
Also looking for other schools to connect NJHS. Still a newbie @ 2yr. Ideas...
Thanks Alissa. That's the one I am favoring but researching to be sure we haven't missed something
I lean toward making him/her part of tech team. Use gift for good, not evil. Give challenges!
I've used Audio Boom for years. Very easy to use. Is there a time limit?
Students were really independent with it and we had good success for our first podcasting experience.
I've used also and embed on my Wikispace.
No but we don't want to push out anything longer than 15 min as we get started.
I believe there was a 5 minute limit when I was using it consistently. Worked for us!
But it may have changed; haven't used it myself recently.
I also love the Adobe Spark program.
do you go w/ paid version or free? Free is short, but havent needed paid version, yet.
it used to be 5 min. but I believe it's 20 min now.
try ...they are not necessarily "Catholic," but are based on scripture and are quite edifying.
That is a great tool! And it's free!
There is an edu version too, still limited. best vids are short
NICE! That's an awesome upgrade!
You know that free is important!
Thank you, I like that one!!
Ugh! After I leave! Oh well, it will be a goal.
our IT had it printed on canvas at Walgreens and displayed in the computer lab.
Ts and Ss enjoy . We are looking at P info podcasts now.
Also, I use . They are absolutely incredible. Saint's, Scriptures, Readings...everything!
This question has been bouncing in my head, whats the diff between an Ed.D. and a Ph.D. in Edu?
I had a meme board in my MS classroom. Moved to 5th. Anyone have any favorites?
The Breadwinner The Breadwinner#1 Parvana's Journey #2 Mud City #4 & My Name is Parvana #4 by Deborah Ellis
I have not. I used the tools for students to share their work /learning
all the best for a great school year, Kay!
PhD is more researched focused. My via, is EdD
Ed.D. is more practice-oriented. Ph.D. more theory/research
I love the saints on top of your student cubbies! Are they your students' patrons?
saw a shot of that last night- couldnt believe I saw american football in austrailia.
I have a huge personal collection. Just added Mother Teresa this year. I get some for Christmas gifts too!
Hmm, this looks VERY interesting. A great resource. thx !
Australian rule football much more fun! Go Fitzroy! https://t.co/bqEOCJ6MO6
saw a shot of that last night- couldnt believe I saw american football in austrailia.
I used app dice to assign students to app to do their reflection
also exchange twine rosaries for Saint statues with my friend
Back to bed for my ill head. Have a great day all!
Hope you feel better fast Erin!
Did not! Just signed in to take a look!
A demonstration match from American College Football. We had American Baseball recently
Are any of you working on or policies. Share yours
Are there any good educational books about teaching in Catholic schools?
love meme’s Could spend all day laughing at them. Love idea of a meme board. Ss can build it!
Our Tech Team was just talking about this yesterday! Our favorite "go to" for resources is .
Charism and Culture by Dr. Tim Cook out of creighton- really good read, flows very easily and practical insights.
is officially recommending for curriculum
I can see why you like these, Annie! Great resource! Do teachers use in class or in a tech class?
How do you all keep balance between school and rest of life?
it ebbs and flows ... sometimes have to put aside work and take some time for self
W don't have lots of tech classes so need all Ts to use. We were strategizing yesterday.
she always has great ideas!
I'm not sure I struggle all that much... teaching has a way of consuming my attention!
want that schoolwide because need to be good digital citizens all the time not just one class
I mean, I usually run gleefully into geek-out mode about teaching.
make sure you take that time for yourself. Turn email off. Reflect on you. You deserve it!
morning running before school- Fri. nights or Saturdays i "turn off" school as much I can...sports too.
Just be sure to not burn yourself out!
I've started to (or at least try to) be tech free on Sundays.
not well. Signing up for races forces me to prioritize working out and that always helps me in all areas of life
easier said than done though...when you're passionate about teaching it doesn't get off your mind!
wise man here! Don't answer emails after dinner!
when it's never off your mind, you know you're doing it right!
Turn my phone off on Sunday.
every day, all day is how you implement good agreed
I need to start doing that. Or Saturday's when I walk and go to mass. Need my phone though!
I am personable in my classroom style. My personal life, I try to keep private. Its a very thin line!
Can set do not disturb mode and only allow family through
just talking to principal about an iPad AUP for our littles. hard to understand verbage in official AUP
I need to start turning off my land line after 5-too many sales calls
As a mom sometimes that is hard, but I schedule those emails to send the next day
Word it for them and go over it!!
we get the polling calls here!
logical consequences and formative-focused discipline are parts of whole child education
and that's how I feel education should be...educate every part of the child, not just content!
so important to really discuss it. I take 45 min to review AUP with Ss. I talk AUP all the time
Thanks Barb! If anyone wants the Google Docs of these I'll share.
Nate ... I would love a copy!
Thanks for the chat this morning! Off to spend time w/DH who I haven't seen for 3 days. 😉 Married to an amazing man!
Have a great week everyone!
