Please join us for a weekly conversation about design thinking in K12 education. We will have a variety of moderators with a wide range and depth of design thinking experiences. Each week, we will connect the dots to the design thinking methodology and how it can and will play a bigger role in today’s K12 educational arena.
Hey #dtk12chat ers. Casual's good. I was at a committee meeting today for our district STEM committee (I know..how far behind is that). I'm pushing for us to look more towards #deeperlearning and #designthinking.
one half of the family -- it's not a huge holiday for my fam -- Christmas & Thanksgiving and allllll of the birthdays are the big ones for us #dtk12chat
#dtk12chat So, hey...ideas linking #designthinking with #deeperlearning ? Sims? Diffs? (I'm about 1/2 way through Martinez and McGrath's DEEPER LEARNING book. So much relevance for relevancy.
I think it begins with the central conceit of human centered problem solving; to truly solve a problem requires getting below the surface & uncovering the root concern -- w ppl that means more rigorous #empathy#dtk12chat
And then -- if we are problem solving -- we are authenticity oriented -- EVEN IF we are designing for a hypothetical problem, a fictional character & just at prototype stage #dtk12chat
no, not necessarily . . just because #empathy is part of #designthinking doesn't mean that's mindset that's guiding the #deeperlearning experience .. however.. perhaps the reverse might be true.. if . . hmm #dtk12chat#dl2018
#dtk12chat Another ?: Which of these goals (see main branches coming off the central image/words (Liberal Education) do you feel #designthinking helps students engage in?
