Q1 What does it mean to be a connected educator? Be sure to start responses with A1 and hashtag https://t.co/hh8stSbcKq
A1: Having a endless network of like-minded professionals whose goal is improving ed. Sharing tools, resources & experiences.
A1 A connected educator understands who their "customers" are! S's today are very connected
A1: Being able to share ideas and thoughts with others that are like you. Sharing the same goals.
A1 It means you are part of a group of dedicated professionals who interact, sharing the best of ideas for your Ss.
And of course sharing and learning with those we don't always agree with can be vital too!
Love it. The best ideas should always be for our students.
A1 A connected educator recognizes power in sharing and learning from others. Models what we want from S's
True story! But it's always nice to feel like there are others out there from the future :)
We are not truly learning if we all think alike. We are just agreeing.
I think we can all relate!
A1: Being connected means also being always evolving and constant learner, finding solutions for their students anywhere they can
A1 NOT being an island teacher, alone trying to learn and grow.
. I use this app for writing first and them have student read what they wrote. TELLAGAMI APP https://t.co/SSlgY0m2I3
It's surrounding yourself with passionate educators.
its hard to be on an island for sure!
Are we ready for Question 2?
passion for education and for your students can be contagious. It can truly affect the culture of your school!
Are you using the link that I shared with you earlier?
DeKalb is on Twitter tonight!
Absolutely! Learning doesnt stop when u get a teaching license! Be a LIFELONG LEARNER! Practice what you preach!
If not, you can see the questions being posted on
For those of you new to the chat concept, don't stress if it is moving fast. Read and share when it makes sense for you!
Here is question 2. We will keep moving with questions, take your time responding for those who are new https://t.co/gHsQzA6DVX
A2: New ideas... being able to see what they do.. what makes them successful that you can use too
A2: DIY PD/choice, keeping up w/evolving tech, Just-in-time resources.
Yes, and the cool thing is that I don't really know many of the folks I surround myself with thanks to Teitter.
A2 Connected T's gain access to wealth of resources. There's power in collective knowledge. Curate great ideas, encourage others
A2 New voices, new eyes, new ideas - they all bring something to the table.
A2: The more info and resources available to you means more for the students.
Me either! I have made so many valuable connections and hope to only make more.
I'm a thief of great ideas. I love tweaking the things I like that I see others doing!
Great insight ! Sorry I'm late to this party!!!
A2: Fresh ideas, new approaches, a different way, tools to do things. Always learning!
There is no such thing as stealing in education!
Me too! One of the best ideas we have had is our digital badge program that was definitely borrowed!
The party can't truly start w/o you ;)
BINGO, you hit it on the head, our STUDENTS benefit when we are connected as educators! https://t.co/oBio5o3H1F
A2: The more info and resources available to you means more for the students.
A2 Sharing, stealing (thanks for new perspectives). I never want cobwebs in my lessons. Connections help.
jump in no need to apologize for being tardy.
"cobwebs in my lessons" i may be stealing that from YOU, love it!
Lots have borrowed that one!
Shelly I don't think you will have to worry about cobwebs !!
A2: EdTech changes so rapidly that I cannot keep up without help from my "friends".
Denton ISD has the badge thing DOWN!
I love collaborating in this chat! You guys always have ideas that inspire me to do more for my students.
LOVE BADGES. I am rolling some out for students next week. Yep, borrowed that
Ok lets get to question 3, it is set up to tag some others locally to make sure they are aware of
Q3 Invite other area twitter users, Include their twitter handles if you think they would add to convo. https://t.co/AOUsHcyas4
Teachers have to get over the idea that they have to know everything - guide on side, not sage on the stage:)
yesjust trying to figure this all out Absolutely gained a lot of knowledge from our badge program at DeKalb ISD!!
A2: I love it when sitting in a training (at TCEA) and get a great idea from the person sitting next to me. A double blessing!
it can be a little overwhelming, take your time and answer as you can!

A4: It's huge. Without good leadership it's hard to encourage everyone else to get on board and want to grow! EVERYONE
A4- ❤ 2 see admin get connected! THAT is leadership. Learning does not stop w/ a teaching certificate https://t.co/Fc1DcankcX
A4 Without connected leaders, there is no motivation from the top, no leading by example. EVERYONE benefits w/a connected leader
Just learning with a few friends!
what it means to be a connected educator. Q4 was posted. Q3 was designed to holler at others! Glad you heard
A4: Being connected is essential. My goal is to teach beyond 4 walls- MUST be connected to do that!
A4: Connected leaders are the leaders of the ship. They have to be able to look outside of their own ship to steer to future.
Connected learners! Right up your ally.
A4 Leadership is tough, Connected leaders gain support system 4 a job that truly has no manual. They face tough challenges daily.
A4 Leaders that connect w/all stakeholders gain important insight that truly is felt by all in the school system
A4 When I see my leaders trying new ideas, I am willing to try too.
A4: MODEL lifelong learning. Benefits r far reaching. Most important thing 21st cen both admin & Ts, can do is get connected.
And being connected can get you out of a funk! Like Twitter chats! These always light my fire! 🔥🔥🔥
Connected leaders have to work hard to stay connected as well- learning never stops!
A4: To lead you have to have some followers & technology is difficult for some.
I'm reading the "What Connected Educators do Differently" book now!
A4: Connected admin means connected schools and communities. Progress cant start and stop with Ts, it has to go all the way up!
THat future part really is so important
I would think lots of teachers feel this away.
A4: If they are connected everyone benefits! They need a break from the daily routine to see what is innovative and engaging.
A4- Talks learning by leading her blog.
agreed it helps to gain steam and energy
Are we ready for Question 5?
members, be sure to take advantage of free webinars! Wealth of knowledge shared. Heres next one https://t.co/RnxIucSxFV
about to give you another! Feel welcome to join the :)
A4: every admin should follow .
A5: Social media! It's free! Educators NEED to take advantage. I've found that parents read a Facebook post better than email.
A5: Facebook, websites, newsletters, Google Groups....
A5: Google hangouts, Google + communities, our parents also love remind 101
A5: Social Media.. tools like Remind101...
A5 For me, parents respond MOST to email.
Educators also need to realize how it works, it IS where are S's are and helps us know how they think!
A5- I feel like our parents & community are more involved on FB & Insta. Remind is great.
A5 I use Remind101 and Google hangouts.
A5: Our district is really taking advantage of https://t.co/LrX2Q6HYEa . Great for newsletters! Super easy to learn/use
I feel like most parents are on FB...
Did show you? I totally saw Clayton Little when I was watching.
A5: is an excellent tool for high school parents.
We can't be scared of it. We've got to embrace it. Of course there r negatives, but there r so many positives 2!
A5: Agree with . She mentioned 2 great tools for connecting with parents. is similar to .
A5: . I do have a Facebook page at work and I do 't post like I did b/c ppl think u r playing!
Smore is great! I love Adobe Slate too! They also just added the ability to embed video!
A5: Whichever system used, getting S buy-in WILL translate into parents and community buying in,
A5 Office sway is alot like Adobe slate and allows for dynamic and creative ways to share info
I was introduced to Slate at . Haven't used it yet- adding it to my to-do list!
Its really nice! I love responsive websites!
A6- Use hangouts, appear.in, Skype to connect with other classrooms.
A6: Google Classroom has opened doors for me as a collaborative tool! Love it!
& I ran across the idea of doing a live competitive game using hangouts across classrooms!
Did a cool insta contest with students - we need to share that with parents
We just started using 2 send out district staff biweekly newsletter focusing on positives stories around
A5 For me some parents don't want to use FB for school because it is their private life .
A6: Skype and Google Hangouts can easily connect classes for free.
the difficulty with insta is when Ss tag it doesnt show up on your feed
A6: Google Classroom, Hangouts, Instagram
A6 LOVE Google Hangouts. On all my devices and teachers respond QUICK.
Oh my, I need to look this up. This sounds awesome! https://t.co/l6KQ3SLtQB
& I ran across the idea of doing a live competitive game using hangouts across classrooms!
I'm not a fan of using Facebook either. It makes me sad for humanity when I read posts on it.
EXACTLY! It all starts with making those face to face connections at the beginning of the year.
BUT it IS where the audience is. Check out the book I linked it gives some positive uses.
Just get a hastag and teach Ss how to search it.... Sometimes you don't want everything on the feed! lol
Love this idea! we should try this! https://t.co/HPe1NDnvMI
& I ran across the idea of doing a live competitive game using hangouts across classrooms!
I take what they tag in and repost it to the Insta
A5: Awesome member since early 90's I never miss attending -
A6: Conventions or Trainings and talking with people there, not staying quiet or in your group!!
I agree; it's where most folks are. I am working on my tolerance of it. :)
Lets do it! I bet I'll have some takers at ! Seriously! Let's connect some classes!
A6 Skyping with other classes or schools would be cool. I like to use a shared Padlet or something similar for collaboration.
would be nice if insta had a repost like Twitter!
No joke! It would cut down on my work load. HAHA!
So awesome to follow the conversations going on here tonight! About to share our final question shortly.
I hope you new connected friends try this out with each other!

Q7: How might we go about sharing the power of being a connected educator w/those that are less enthusiastic about the idea?
one of our AWESOME pre-k Ts is on board! Got any pre-k classrooms in mind???
Tonights Final question! https://t.co/zscygaOV2z
Q7: How might we go about sharing the power of being a connected educator w/those that are less enthusiastic about the idea?
A6: I share some of the apps when they go on sale or are free!
Well I forgot one didn't I
I bet I have a great one!
A6: Something that helps communication with parents and other teachers is a class website that is easy to follow.
A7 Start off small. Show them something that is beneficial to them..
A7- Whew... That's a tough one! Lead by example :)
A6: Take them to an EdCamp!
A7 Show them some of the cool things are kids are doing/learning. Tell them you got those ideas from
Like FB, parents are reluctant because it gives me access to their private lives.
A7 I'll do a recording using 4 those who want to try it. I think local "in Person" practices might help too
Q7: Sharing an idea with them and letting them know we found it on Twitter and how awesome and easy to use. Show them how!!
A7: when they ask for help send them to your Twitter
Yes- Hook em by showing something that will SAVE THEM TIME! Ts never have enough! https://t.co/7LxqR1DUiY
A7 Start off small. Show them something that is beneficial to them..
A7: Find ways it will help THEM and then actually showing them rather than just talking about it.
A7 *your kids are... Autocorrect is the bane of my existence.
Yeah, I will forgive you. YOu saved me and you had a really good bonus one for St Patricks day too!
A7 Our Campus Tech leader built excitement at our Lunch and Learn. Thanks
A7: SHOW THEM! Sit down w/them and show them. Walk them through. Take baby steps and it will happen.
Get students excited - they will put pressure on other teachers to do the same!
Ha! I so missed that boat on that one! https://t.co/NMYT24ACNJ
Yeah, I will forgive you. YOu saved me and you had a really good bonus one for St Patricks day too!
WHAT, how is that possible. Lets get you on the site and find one. Commerce has one in the fall!
I'm pretty sure that's how kahoot spread through our school.
A7: I enthusiastically share new ideas I learn w/how to use it in their upcoming lessons. Actions can speak louder than words.
I know! I need to be in attendance! https://t.co/JtLBzLYT6b
WHAT, how is that possible. Lets get you on the site and find one. Commerce has one in the fall!
EdCamps are the best PD ever! You can find a calendar of EdCamps online.
To-do list for tomorrow is started :) Thanks
A7: making it a part of PLC/ dept time. Tech integration should be for everyone
A7: LOOK FOR Twitter topics when you cannot find what you are looking for. Follow
It is all FUN and GAMES, till the students have to create their own
I love connecting with you all! Thank for another GREAT chat :)
A7: Most are not swayed by facts. Touching the heart convinces most people. Always share your passion as it impacts others.
As we wrap up I look forward to catching up on the rest of the conversation. Look for transcripts soon! https://t.co/huGK67fi81
Thank you! So many ideas to check out now!
