Let's get CREATING with G Suite!
How do you encourage students to CREATE with what they're learning with Google apps? Share your ideas and gather a TON of new ones in tonight's #DitchBook chat. Join us!
Kyle, special education teacher, Reno, NV, going with the ol tried and true Google Slides "peared" with the @PearDeck for Google Slides add-on! #ditchbook
Heeeey, #ditchbook. Evan Mosier, Technology Integrationist Lead Teacher and 7th Language Arts from Davenport, IA. Joining tonight after an exhausting first day of school! My favorite currently is #GSlides - such a flexible tool!
Hi all. Mike from MI - 6/7 Science Teacher. This is my first #Ditchbook chat. Read #ditchhw this summer and it reaffirmed my stance on HW and ignited a few more ideas I’ve had stored in my mind but am finally going to try them.
Hi I'm Priscilla from NJ! I teach Tech, STEM, & GiftedEd grades 1-4. So hard to pick one, but I've definitely been using Google Drawings more! #DitchBook
HEY!!! #DitchBook
Karly, tech TOSA and computer science 💻 teacher from SF Bay Area, CA here ☀️
My favorite Google tool is a big tie between Slides and Drawings.
Hey there #DitchBook friends!

Excited to talk G Suite stuff! Checking in from Pittsburgh PA tonight!
A1. It gives Ss a way to touch the concept and internalize what they are doing. Creating makes them pause and think and have a process. Teaches real life skills. #ditchbook
A1. Creation means deeper levels of understanding. Being able to take the information they have learned and actually applying it is remarkable. #ditchbook
I like to make stuff in Drawings, then embed it in Drawings! I feel that while you can in Slides, the ability to zoom in makes Drawings easier to work with #ditchbook
A1: It is so important for students to create because it really allows critical thinking and problem solving skills to shine through! Plus they can put their own personality into anything! #ditchbook
A1: When Ss create they are empowered to apply knowledge in a variety of ways - ideally in a way that makes the most sense for each of them individually. #DitchBook
A1: You create something, it demonstrates a deeper understanding of a topic that you cannot show through the writing process or a multiple guess test #ditchbook
A1 You know that lesson you pour your heart and soul into - spent hours crafting themed activities for them to participate in? Can't wait to show your students and "meh" - Who was doing the creating? #ditchbook
A1: Creating is a way for students to demonstrate their learning and how they are interpreting the information! It is also making them to use their problem solving skills with their own personal touch! #DitchBook
A1: To be able to create something shows that you have a deep knowledge as understanding of the topic. By creating Ss can use their own ideas to demonstrate their knowledge! #ditchbook
A1: It allows students to acquire new information and make meaning. For me personally, creating helps me work through my understanding of the content. #Ditchbook
A1: Creation means choice! Opportunities for Ss to represent them selves in unique ways and to share different perspectives => gone are the days of “grading” 21 of the same poster! #DitchBook
A1 Creation allows Ss to express externally what is going on internally. Designing a “product” is a form of art that shows so many things from creativity, synthesis, and passion. A few things we strive for students to do when learning. #Ditchbook
I created my Anderson Edtech avatar in Drawings, came out perfect on my stickers simply saved as a .png or .jpg, and works well for all of my account avatars too! #ditchbook

When Ss create they show practical application of their learning instead of regurgitating facts or someone else’s ideas. It allows students to share their unique perspective of what they learned and how it applies to life #ditchbook
Yes, creating lends itself to personalized learning and constructing meaning... hard to create without it... unless you're painting by numbers... #DitchBook
A1: It is so important for students to create because it really allows critical thinking and problem solving skills to shine through! Plus they can put their own personality into anything! #ditchbook
A1 Creating allows students to demonstrate their knowledge in a way that they makes them think critically. You can almost SEE their brains working!
#ditchbook
A1: Allowing students to create while learning allows them to retain knowledge without them even realizing it... hehe kinda sneaky. They are using what they know and transfer the knowledge! #DitchBook

A2: Oh my goodness ... so many ways to get students creating with G Suite ...
- GDrawings infographics
- G Drawings interactive posters
- G Slides stop motion animation
- G Drawings comic strips
Blog posts on ALL of those: https://t.co/k3H4V95Ymn#DitchBook
A2: Ss created a matrix of “Ways They Think About Texts” using Sheets! A collaborative view of texts across the years and the impact they had! https://t.co/uqLFDqFu8m#DitchBook
A2. My favorite has yet to happen. Ss are creating digital portfolios for the year. #ditchbook Great way to embed #growthmindset and embed lots of other Google tools!
A2: Google Slides- I love to give student choice boards and watch their creativity bloom.
I also love HyperDocs so the students creativity can be layered. #ditchbook
A2: A personal favorite is the Google Classroom banner creation. Set the parameters of a Google Drawing to 800 x 200 pixels and let them create how they wish. Download as a .jpg. Upload to Classroom. Ss feel empowered and lets their creativity shine and be displayed! #DitchBook
Google slides is such a versatile tool! ✅Check out ⬇️

R1. Amber Harper from Fort Wayne, IN! Love me some @GoogleForEdu! Creation allows for the ‘happy little mistakes’ that you can turn into proud big learning opportunities! Excited for the #DitchBook chat! #DitchBook
Im starting to have a new found appreciation for Keep in my new role. Gmail integration is become a lifesaver. So easy to create notes of todo list to check off #DitchBook
Hola #DitchBook I’m Casey from MD and I teach HS English. Favorite Google tool is Advanced Search. Odd, I know, but I love teaching research skills to freshmen and helping them narrow results. What many adults find as second-nature can be mind-blowing for students.
A2: My favorite is Virtual Novel studies through Google Classrooms! Also I love having students use Google Slides to infer what characters in a novel would post on social media! Also google draw to create book trailer posters! So many options #ditchbook
A2: Lot of people like Thinglink to annotate images and whatnot, why not use Slides to create infographics with links to images, videos, captions, etc. #ditchbook

A1: Creating shows them (& us) what their strengths are! Definitely helps foster critical thinking & the other 4Cs when creating with others. #DitchBook
Q2: I feel like you can take a Google Slide and go in tons of different directions: Stop Motion Animation, Collaboration Posters, Student Choice Activities, tying in social media, just to name a few! #DitchBook
A2: It's really when I see kids using Gsuite like a swiss army knife, switching from one tool to another to meet their needs for a real world project, that I get most excited... #DitchBook
A2: 1) DigitalBreakout with Google Sites and Google Forms. 2) Choose Your Own Adventure with Google Forms 3) Alphabox Summary w/Google Slides 4) HyperDocs Challenge with Google Docs #Ditchbook
Hello!!! I’m Kristin from PA & I teach 5th grade. Favorite tool.... hmmmm my favorite that’s hard. I love them all! I use slides often in my class. #DitchBook
A2: Google Sites are great for student synthesis of learning and great for curation and organization of all other student created docs. Just embed and go! #DitchBook
A3: In the words of @mrnesi it's not hard, just give it a try. So what if you fail? You'll know how to improve or know something that didn't work that was still probably more effective that other methods #ditchbook
One simple step we can take to help students learn:
SLOW DOWN. Pause.
We are highly qualified teachers, so we know our stuff. It makes sense in our brains. Our students don't process it as quickly as we do.
Stop. Let the idea breathe. Your students will thank you. #DitchBook
A2 Slides for presentations embedding video, links, gifs, etc —it’s more than a presentation though
I have had students use WeVideo (not a Google created app to my knowledge but still in the Chrome store) for creating PSAs, interviews, sharing science experiments. #DitchBook
A1: it helps the learning stick! When students are actually doing or creating they are more likely to retain the info! Plus it also allows students to be more engaged with the material! #DitchBook
R2 I love teaching littles how to use sides to share their learning. They loved creating a Class Book while collaborating on the same slide deck. I displayed it on the board while they were working. They thought that ghosts were making them change! 😂 #DitchBook
A3: first find out what interests your students, find one tool and become and expert on that, design lessons that engage your learners based on their interests, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes! #ditchbook
A3: Just do it! It’s one thing to get training on it, but sometimes you just have to choose one and jump in knowing that it is 100% okay to make mistakes! We all do it❤️ #ditchbook
There are a lot of map activities in the world history class I am co-teaching, my partner, a non-techie, and I are already talking about how we can use tools like Google My Maps to make the map activities more interactive and meaningful #ditchbook
A3: Start small. Focus on a lesson (or even part of a lesson) that could use a Google Tool integration. Then, once they get comfortable, try another. Hopefully the #growthmindset takes over and all of their lessons have become interactive and S-centered! #DitchBook
A3: choose something you already do that can be transferred over to something Google and just TRY. Keep it simple and take a leap of faith. If it doesn’t work, you have learned what not to do when you try again. 😊 #DitchBook
You're welcome! Students LOVE to see their work as the Classroom banner. Depending on the class size, you could change them out once a week, which is cool. Showing them to parents at P/T Conferences is awesome, too! #DitchBook
A2: last year @lessonsinrm9 & I had our classes collaborate in google slides to create stories that taught kids about proper use of technology & digital citizenship. It was great bc we taught in different buildings and I teach 5th & she teaches 4th! #DitchBook
A3 Try something new or different from what you’ve ever done and see how it goes. If it fails, at least you tried and can learn from it. See it as an opportunity to grow and continue to do what’s best for kids. #DitchBook
If you teach math (and really, don't we all teach math in the classroom?) ...
... check out these suggestions from @MrVaudrey. SOLID.
I'm not a math teacher, but I am always UBER impressed with the #mtbos community. Top notch hashtag family. #DitchBook#mathchat
❇️For devices, start with @Desmos and @geogebra
❇️Read @fawnpnguyen’s blog for problem-solving strategies
❇️Grab Appetizers from @classroomchef to build an attitude of risk-taking.
❇️And ask for support and ideas from #mtbos and #iteachmath

A3: Just choose one app that you feel like will connect with what you are teaching and then tell the Ss we are going to work through this together! They are probably going to teach you something! I know my 2nd graders do and then they see you learn too! #DitchBook
A4: Collaboration, Revision history, embedding Google images without leaving the tab, a myriad of fonts and colors to choose from for easy customization! #DitchBook
Here is a 1st Google Drawing activity for I would do with my 4th grade students. It was a great lesson on following directions and being creative.
Many Ss liked to take what they created and use as chromebook wallpaper #Ditchbookhttps://t.co/OpERi18bfZ
💥Google Drawings✏️ is a GREAT way to get started creating!

I'm still working on a way to use Tour builder in math. I tossed a few ideas around but nothing has stuck yet. It's there, I just need to find it :-) #DitchBook

A3: start small & make sure you are looking at the learning outcomes first & not just using technology to use it bc it’s cool. Make sure there is a purpose for the tech tool you are using. #DitchBook
I know for my Ss they could design a vacation and maybe I should do just that! I might give it a whirl! I will create directions when I get to that lesson. #ditchbook

A4: Speaking from experience in creating a visual support schedule for a student, the EXPLORE menu in #GSuiteEDU apps! I was able to find all sorts of icons and images to create a schedule with supports with relatively little effort! #ditchbook
R3 #DitchBook ASK FOR A FORCE COPY! 😜 Seriously, though... just ask the teacher how they did that. Also, (ahem) GTS! (Google That Sh...stuff). So many AWESOME, FREE resources and ideas that Ts are sharing out there! #GoOpen
