Welcome to our #CreateEdu chat! This week we are chatting about design thinking with San Seidel (@husslington)! Introduce yourself and where you're from.
A1: Life and learning can and should - whenever possible - be centered around design. There are so many moving parts in the classroom before we get to today’s transformative media creation tools. Need to think design before tactics. #CreateEdu
think i’m supposed to be answering questions, but i’m gonna ask some for educators who teach or otherwise utilize design:
what impact are you seeing?
can you share examples of student/colleague/your own work process/products?
what challenges are you running into?
#CreateEdu
So true. I used to ask my students to make things without teaching them about design. After years of disappointing products, I learned my lesson. Take time to teach good design! #createedu
The impact I see are higher quality products and higher level thinking behind the design of those products. The challenge for me personally is that I sometimes try to tackle too much and confuse the students. #createedu
A2 - We are using design thinking with the focus on technology as a foundation to deliver Project Based Learning skills and training T's. Our goal includes performance assessment training, as well as blended and other personalized learning strategies. #CreateEdu
yes! one of the most valuable lessons for me as an educator has been that good design is as much about what you keep out as what you let in.

A2: I've used a mini version of design thinking in teacher PDs tackle problems. We also used it to have students redesign our library spaces. #createedu
A2: Having observed/collaborated with hundreds of K-12 teachers on the role of creativity/innovation in the classroom, a recurring theme is humility. New tools level the playing field in many respects. We need to give our selves space to transform our practice #createedu
the @k12lab is focused on utilizing design to obliterate opportunity gaps in elementary + secondary education.
we do this by designing new, more equitable models + sharing design approaches with students + educators.
#CreateEdu
I'd love to hear more about the models. I think there's a lot we can and should do to close several equity and opportunity gaps in our schools. #createedu
to answer your first question, we’d have to know more about *why* you want them to use design thinking.
for the second question, there are some intro exercise resources on our site: https://t.co/CmP8B3Kgwt#CreateEdu
HUMILITY. so important as an educator/human. so under-appreciated (maybe because people who value it are humble and don’t make a lot of noise about it?).

A2: I was one of 10 @TeachersGuild Fellows last year and I experimented #DesignThinking w/ my Graphic Design students. It was amazing! This year, I’m at a new school and focused more on mindsets, empathy, and curiousity, not just a process. #CreateEdu

A3: I observe students at @AGBellSchool in Chicago design their own learning experiences through empathy-based projects, including those devoted to #UNSDGs#createedu
A3 - @roosevelt_SF participated in Dreamforce TrailBlazer Challenge with other middle schools from SF & Oakland, where the focus was on sustainability in communities and cities. There were some great S's ideas & pitches! #RMStrojans#CreateEdu
What new media creation, aggregation and interpretation tools really show us is that knowledge is no longer proprietary. Wisdom always will be. Have the humility to recognize this, then apply a life of learning into putting this potential into context. #CreateEdu
