Q2: is a game that is heavily used in schools around the world. What do you know about Minecraft?
A1 - Broadly defined, "gaming" as simulation gives kids a bigger chance to try and fail, notice patterns, see cause/effect, etc.

Sure! you can build your own worlds and create whatever you want!
A1 gaming is a fun way to practice. Used to play games to learn mult/div and typing skills. Felt less like a chore
A2: My son plays it. I play it. While he makes and deletes lots of worlds, I have my one that I continually polish.

A2 My son loves it...and can create skyscraper hotels in circles around me!
My 6th Ss built their own food chains in it. Getting ready to construct Greek landmarks. So much potential!

Great idea to involve students and let them be the teachers!
A2:Minecraft sparks creativity, critical thinking. Students naturally collaborate as they communicate to build greater creations.
Gamification gets students to do things they normally wouldn't. If you can get students to do one more thing, it is a win.
Yes, is so much fun. We did this this year. https://t.co/81IEvurDVg

Impressed with the organization this entails on the T side.
this is a great way to teach kids and use technology in the classroom
A2: is an excellent means of student ownership over learning activities. Seed their learning and what it grow.

We have been trained to believe life does not have a reset button ... but it can ... nothing is final
I totally agree! I couldn't believe it. I wonder if it has something to do w/perceptions

Yes, is so much fun. We did this this year. https://t.co/21zixNtsYJ
A2. I only know what i experienced through through hour of code, but LOVE the wide appeal to genders and grade levels.
A2: Minecraft is one of those games where you must learn to plan, organize, and be thoughtful in how you approach a problem.
A2 It’s great just being so open. Students need to solve problems using resource from various angles.
It's on the margin that gamification wins. It gets more our of people than they otherwise would have done. Ex. airlines/hotels
A2-cont: It is a great way just to let your imagination go, something that adults need to do too.
A2: 5th week of club. So far used it for math arrays and fractions. Teamwork has been a welcomed result
Or how about how they think their school should/could look?
Thats so cool! Can't wait to check it out!
Q2: Proud mom of a Minecraft Youtube video channel owner. Loves the game, educates others on how to play!
There's one thing that I've rarely seen fail. Use the power of adventure! Storytelling and challenge!
We are working on a map of all the places in LA. They live that.
the possibilities are only limited by our creativity and problem solving https://t.co/V6kzgBU0I5
A2:Minecraft sparks creativity, critical thinking. Students naturally collaborate as they communicate to build greater creations.
Yes! It's incredible what Ss build in it and the creativity/digital literacy/innovation skills they use r unreal.
Q3 coming up in 1 minute…
I've heard thoughts about letting students use their cell phone in the classroom. Any thoughts/ideas on this?
A2 Allows Ss 2 build worlds only imaginable through creative problem solving.I love 2 see when they R collaborating.
If there's a reset button, how can we learn from our mistakes?
Has anybody used the World Library to prepare lessons? Was it helpful?
We are also going to make a 360 virtual tour of our school in . Ss = excited
What ways do you use it in the classroom? I don't know a lot about minecraft
Q3: Did you know there are 3 versions of ? If u have experience, which is best for school use?
A2 I find that Minecraft provides opportunity for Ss to collaborate. I enjoy the teamwork that is displayed when SS work on proj
A2: I'm jumping in here. Faith-Entertainment Technology Huntsville, AL. We are piloting MInecraft, so I'm anxious to read this.
school should be a safe place to fail ... [RESET BUTTON] ... try again
A2: Minecraft teaches students there can be more than one answer to a problem. It also gives them inherent immediate feedback.
I haven't either! We should have a class devoted to learning the game
Minecraft is good for everyone! https://t.co/x9Ot5FzsTd
A2-cont: It is a great way just to let your imagination go, something that adults need to do too.
Pocket, EDU, and Original
If you do, have Ss teach it! https://t.co/vM0Q1DiEN7
I haven't either! We should have a class devoted to learning the game
Minecraft “regular,” MinecraftEDU…what’s the 3rd?
A3 I find Creative to be the best for school use. It allows the freedom to creative without the worry of surviving
it is about using the tool to get student to think
We will have a session!! It will be a part of our class in about three weeks.
RT Q3 https://t.co/rKPe3dBVJ7
Q3: Did you know there are 3 versions of ? If u have experience, which is best for school use?
A3 - Best verion depends on the Audiance. PocketEdition =Easy for young kids, Edu balanced for Ts, Normal more power
Your instructor is an expert, tell him you want to learn. https://t.co/byifN3ERDB
I haven't either! We should have a class devoted to learning the game
A rough examp of a world they are creating like to Indiana Jones. Ss will be required 2 solve fractions https://t.co/FDoZV4YBzX
must have reflection time - think about it - new plan of attack - just can't repeat the same thing
Great suggestion- I also tried to tie in architecture classes here
I'm not sure how I feel about this yet. I love technology in the classroom but will it always work?
https://t.co/6KYdv5ec8e
Creating safe environments for discussions and reflections on successes/failures can help us learn
Xbox 360, mac/win, Pocket edition :)
A3: We are loving Creative mode. I love giving them the freedom to create, but not have to worry about everything else.
A3: Had no idea! Thanks for the enlightenment.
I roll with minecraft For ios. But we actually use more often to 3D print designs
Completely agree Nathan! I think younger Ss do well w pocket edition. https://t.co/njr6IzcLa2
A3 - Best verion depends on the Audiance. PocketEdition =Easy for young kids, Edu balanced for Ts, Normal more power
Checking out a little early to pick up my son from school party! Thanks for the chat - sorry to skip out! Great topic!
A3: I use Minecraft Edu and like that students don't need their own accounts & they all collaborate and build in 1 world
Is it horrible to confess that creative mode makes me dizzy? My nephew used to spin around in circles... https://t.co/zxMW2PAF0d
A3 I find Creative to be the best for school use. It allows the freedom to creative without the worry of surviving
A3 I had no idea! Thinking , then & . Learned from twitter tags hah! What's the diff?
we don't use survival at all. Defeats purpose of minecraft
storytelling is great! Totally agree! That's what we are doing w/ map of LA :)
Baby Steps https://t.co/6htxEBusqC
I'm not sure how I feel about this yet. I love technology in the classroom but will it always work?
A3 I didn't know this and I'm still getting familiar with minecraft
Nope it wont. Just like u can't predict S behavior or other interruptions.
it's time to change your visual settings/ change framerate maybe
A3: I've used minecraft at home and at school. Edu version is easier for me to manage with 25 students in the lab
Yes! Makes it much easier!
That or I'm officially old, according to him. Ha! https://t.co/MzVf6HbknB
it's time to change your visual settings/ change framerate maybe
we also have the Xbox version of minecraft but most Ss are tablet peeps
Creative mode sounds like tons of fun! It would allow students to use their imaginations!
Along with developing content knowledge & collaborative skills provides a great opportunity to discuss citizenship
Pocket Edition, Mac/Win, xbox360 are the 3
In a digital society, I believe we must teach students to effectively use devices in the classroom.
I am going to learn how to use minecraft in my class, it sounds very interesting and helpful!
Thanks for this resource!
I am loving my pocket edition on my iPad Pro !
A3: I find open is best start, but internal does more for S learning. Just starting to look at EDU
is tomorrow night - 9pm ET/8pm CT! Join us to talk about writing notebooks!
Thanks :) I actually <3 that typo bcause they "live" it too since it's their city!
will it rain tomorrow? Tech is unpredictable sometimes. But it is a learning opportunity
The technology is the tool for the learning. Still need clear content & strong lesson design.
A3.2: pressing "M" and transporting to student areas or gifting after an assignment has been a big help with edu version
I long for the day when we can let the students play and learn without so much need to manage.
not buying it, no one is too old to learn
my students love minecraft would play and create all day everyday if they could
Prof Susan joining .
Teach in IL, specialist re: K12 trans to https://t.co/u2L7kU6TVs

Of course not - a little adversity is a good thing. Overcoming issues - with student help - is a great role model.
Whoops! Well that's why I'm here! Pocket Edition would be best for iPads?
A3: We are using creative mode - I love the safety for our Ss who don't need a digital footprint so soon
I cant wait to discover all of the different modes
A3: We use it's super teacher friendly, very easy to set up...hopefully new version will also!
you will be able to Skype in Minecraft
Perhaps I'm just out of the loop, but has there been a VR link to with use of or another device?
I'll be leading tomorrow night - 9pm ET/8pm CT - talking writing notebooks - all kinds! Join us!
No way!!! That's too cool!!!
I agree definitely unpredictable but worth trying
Touch base with . I learned a great deal from him about integration & changes by Microsoft.
Edublog or Blogger for professional blog platform? Why?
yes. We us the PE on our iPads
offers unique ways to integrate technology into the classroom
I'm also still learning about it and how to apply it in the classroom
Q4 coming up in 1 minute…
I wonder if it has something to do w/ younger sibs- 1 younger bro= huge player. Maybe way 2 B different?
That sounds like a great method. I'd imagine that creates a comfortable learning environment.
Man, I'm so gullible. But u must admit it's a great idea...
I was expecting enthusiasm. My son made his own server to play &has done school projects w/it lots
Pocket Edition would be the only way on iPad..
Absolutely true! You cannot imagine what the Ss come up with! Such creativity, teamwork and thought processes!

Guessing the Microsoft acquisition is a play to get more students into their system thru MS logins. Also moving to C++ from Java.
A4 minecraft can be used for any content area
so happy you are here nathan! You know so much about !
A4 fascinating that MC can be used for earth science. I might have learned much more if taught this practical way
Maybe C# rather than C++.
Non-user question: Do students code as part of their gaming? Can this be combined with an already developed game like Minecraft?
Sounds like great advice - just like with using all teaching and learning tools - try it out first!
YES we are 1:1 this year. Checking out the Q4 resources now...
A4 has a ton of math resources. I just haven't made the leap. Waiting to get the server set up
Q4: looks like a great place to start and build upon according to where students lead
A4: Any websites or resources will be greatly appreciated - the more the better ...

Its the best way to stay relevant in their learning https://t.co/zBFwaVWULt
like you my kids are addicted to Minecraft. I use what the kids use
A4 LOVE that there are reflection ideas built in! This is so important, especially for my youngsters!
I disagree! Minecraft isn't like other tools. It's a GAME! Not knowing means disconnecting with (1/2) https://t.co/9AAlURf2QD
Sounds like great advice - just like with using all teaching and learning tools - try it out first!
I have a board gaming friend whose son is now fascinated with programming in Minecraft with red stone.
I also come up with non-tech version of games when I do not have tech at schools
(2/2) students. Or Not connecting with WHY they love the game. Meaning it's novelty will wear quickly https://t.co/9AAlUQXrZ5

Popping in to late but glad to join
Sorry it took so long but I finally have wifi again
- Red Stone Circuitry very cool aspect of Minecraft..
Q5: Many Ts r hesitant to use in classrooms bc they don’t know how to use it. How can we push through this?
What is topic tonight for , which I am joining just now.

I love incorporating tangibility into this ! So needed https://t.co/cFhrUmOLu2
I use paper blocks. Kids need to learn hand skills
A5: student ambassadors. I have learned more from the 4th grade club than they have from me at this point.
A5: Teachers who play Minecraft themselves increase familiarity & are inspired to use it in classrooms to align w/instruction.
Q5 just like with anything I think it's a matter of trying and attempting there will be mistakes but that's how we learn
A5:human nature to fear the unknown.Ts have a hard time implementing something Ss know A LOT more about. The KEY is trust!
q4 Ts need more examples of how to use, how much time, and how to grade. This would make the transition easier for them.
That makes sense when it comes to Minecraft
tell congratulations form the guy who wounded you with a unicorn
A5:What about parents or admin thinking kids should just play it at home. Not needed in a school too?
A5 Encourage Ss to help plan where they can use it and teach teachers. Let them run a PD session. I would be so into that.
A5: I think like anything else, Ts have to see it in action! Ts that use it need to be open to having visitors!
Hello - sorry I am late - busy busy busy - Alex from NJ - wondering if I can archive chat in
It's vital for Ts to build positive relationships w/ Ss that leads to trusting each other. This opens up a world of possibilities
Unless educators understand Minecraft, then I guess it remains at home
Enable students to lead the discussion. Teachers just need to facilitate initially while learning. Seen this work.
A5: connecting it to the curriculum is a great starting point to let Ts it's relevant
Q5: the Ss are the experts they should teach Ts
nice shot of my cousin Darth
A5 sometimes kids need the unknown-try it out and see where it takes you. I like to learn with the S
Q5 I believe that there must be more open and available worlds built for curriculum. Ts don't have time to build / code.
A5 Official PD opportunities that teach and encourage use
Yes, empower the students
A5 Time is a big barrier in adopting new tech for classroom.Admins (K12&univ) need to provide structure &resources for prof dev.
A5: Pocket Edition is very easy to use...I would encourage teachers to try it (IPad) and see how fun it can be
A5. more PD similar 2 this would open the eyes to those reluctant 2 see it's value in schools. Looks like U R the man
A5: Learning happens everyday, everywhere - shouldn't Ts model same learning for Ss just as Ts expect Ss to show their learning
Sorry to be late, enjoying a hockey game too! Grayson, 6th grade ELA/SS
A5: I think having students build the worlds they are learning about is the best way to immerse them in the subject
A5 Have Ss share/lead, Ts who are using it provide support, lots of resources avail, take a chance!
Hi Grayson! Never to late for
Great example https://t.co/XweVapamSk
A5: I think having students build the worlds they are learning about is the best way to immerse them in the subject

Thanks for the great conversation tonight. Wish I could stay on, but more work to do.
Ts need to be given time set aside for this! https://t.co/6HLPVDp5rE
Q5: Ts also need to learn through hands on exploration
A5: I showed off student builds replicating our school facade. Teachers were loving it.
I believe we'd see an increase in mandated test scores if questions included Minecraft themes
Q6: I like to make recordings of in use. How do u see this being useful in a school setting? https://t.co/jeaNsTY868
Should we push or expose then to our results? https://t.co/PORRT2APnc

Side questions - Anyone build a version of the Lonely Mountain from the Hobbit in Minecraft? always wanted to but no time :)
A5 YOUTUBE is a great resource! I've watched several student/teacher/gamer created how-to videos and showcases that amaze me!
nope. SAMR is what causes student to stop learning
A5 Education is key.Schools need to support a culture of learning for all: students, teachers, administrators, staff.
Inteesting comment, Nathan, and see your point
A6: making recordings of work is a great step in presenting and archiving ideas, whether or nor minecraft is the subject
A6 Great for Ss training other Ss, great for presentations & storytelling, & show growth within a build. https://t.co/VLDiQTtZC0

Always glad to see NJ educators here. Although in IL now, from Bergen County.
If using gaming or is important to the T, they'll find time. IMO

Thanks for checking them out!!! Its a lot of fun
A6 Almost like an audio annotation, explaining ideas and outcomes. Great possibilities for reflection in real time as well.
A6: Students love watching video tutorials to increase their proficiency in gaming. A classroom website can link to videos.
I love Atari on slightly more than
A6: Recording allows for highlights of concepts and interesting happenings
A6: e-portfolio worlds & recorded documentation of learning rather than a pencil & paper task
