Q1:  What information do you want to learn from assessment? How do you use that data? #Arabiclangchat
  • HandsOnilm Nov 8 @ 9:12 PM EST
A1: At this stage of the year: 3 skills Listening Comprehension, Speaking, Reading Comprehension (not writing, maybe some handwriting). It's more about how I'm doing rather than how THEY are doing #arabiclangchat

Q1:  What information do you want to learn from assessment? How do you use that data? #Arabiclangchat
  • kirs10g Nov 8 @ 9:14 PM EST
A1. I use a lot of informal assessment to let me know how much more time we need to spend on a topic. And formal assessment to see if my students can accomplish the tasks set out by my unit #Arabiclangchat
  • fabughoush - Moderator Nov 8 @ 9:14 PM EST
A1:The goal of the assessment is to give feedback , so teachers can take action to adjust their teaching to meet the students needs and the students adjust their learning. #arabiclangchat
  • sbasuni Nov 8 @ 9:17 PM EST
A1. I want to see where my students are in term of using the language, I use the data to make the necessary changes in my lessons and unit! The data is very important to crest students learning targets based on the needs! #Arabiclangchat

Q2: What types of formative assessment do you use in your classroom? #Arabiclangchat
  • sbasuni Nov 8 @ 9:24 PM EST
A2. Thumbs up and down, exit ticket (I usually like to ask different questions by the door when students leaves the classroom). I also use a lot of Think-pare-share! #Arabiclangchat
  • kirs10g Nov 8 @ 9:26 PM EST
A2. I like using exit cards though I dont use them as much as I could. I like matching style quizzes after the vocabulary has been introduced to see where kids are at and encourage the kids to realize they are learning, or, that they need to study more! #Arabiclangchat
  • fabughoush - Moderator Nov 8 @ 9:26 PM EST
A2: Self assessment, Pair assessment , Check for understanding strategies, small white boards ( Any assessments along the bath of learning) #arabiclangchat
  • kirs10g Nov 8 @ 9:29 PM EST
    time for question 3! #Arabiclangchat
  • kirs10g Nov 8 @ 9:29 PM EST
Q3:  What types of summative assessment do you use in your class? #Arabiclangchat
  • sbasuni Nov 8 @ 9:32 PM EST
A2 last year I had traffic lights small cards on every table.students used them to show me if they understand! It was a very easy way to see everyone’s understanding quickly and go help whoever needs the help individually. I need to use again this year! #Arabiclangchat

A3: IPA all the way...see what I did there?
  • sbasuni Nov 8 @ 9:37 PM EST
A3. Our district is pushing for using IPA. Honestly I’m trying my best to do so but elementary programs sometimes are very tricky to creat an effective IPA. #Arabiclangchat
  • ustathaannie Nov 8 @ 9:38 PM EST
A3: I also try to make tests reflect real-life tasks...and at the same time assess all 5Cs. This has been a work in progress #arabiclangchat
  • kirs10g Nov 8 @ 9:40 PM EST
a3. I too am working towards using IPAs... though no one else in my department knows what I'm talking about. I prefer project based assessments over tests but I struggle with assessing interpersonal communication #Arabiclangchat
  • fabughoush - Moderator Nov 8 @ 9:40 PM EST
    A3:Projects , IPA assessments. #arabiclangchat
  • kirs10g Nov 8 @ 9:41 PM EST
do you try to hit all 5C's each unit? I usually aim for communication +1 other each unit hoping to hit each C by the end of the year #arabiclangchat

@ustathaannie how do you assess connections or communities for example?? or are they more used as the topic of a communication assessment #arabiclangchat
    In reply to @ustathaannie
  • ustathaannie Nov 8 @ 9:47 PM EST
A3: interpersonal I usually test last and on a separate day. They have a dialogue in front of me based on prompts and I'm nothing but a fly-on-the-wall #arabiclangchat

A4. When assessing at the end of the unit,I assess the other 4 C’s through the three modes of communication. When planning the assessment as the first stage in the unit planning,I choose the content based on the 4C’s & use the communication standard as an evidence #arabiclangchat
  • kirs10g Nov 8 @ 9:49 PM EST
do you discuss with them as the second in a pair or watch a conversation between two students ? #arabiclangchat

Connections are usually easier (nutrition, geography, temp conversions), but communities I tend to accomplish through projects

Q5: In what ways do you engage students in assessments? Do you use any self-assessments? #arabiclangchat
  • fabughoush - Moderator Nov 8 @ 9:58 PM EST
A5:This is a good questions, waiting to see the answers #arabiclangchat
  • ustathaannie Nov 8 @ 9:58 PM EST
A5 I haven't done this as often as I like (it's in my planner for tmrw) where students monitor and assess their progress through "I can" statements #arabiclangchat
