Hello! Back from vacation. Catherine from Fresno CA. Recent college grad who is applying for a Master's to be a College Counselor. Ready to chat away! #ohedchat
A1: Great mentors listen has much as they offer advice and direction. The process of mentoring is a two-way conversation in learning. Pause and reflect. #ohedchat
A1. Honesty, passion, commitment, priorities. A great mentor should be able to lead authentically and lead you to focus on the important things in life #ohedchat
A1: Great listening, questioning, & reflecting skills are critical. I value being able to share with my mentor and have my mentor help me work through things. The process of arriving at decisions or answers is important. #ohedchat
A1 #ohedchat definitely a listener. Not always giving advice but hearing issues and then processing to get help. PT 2 is willing to push for greatness.
A1 A mentor who shows a figure of a leader, a figure of a role model, someone who is passionate and committed to impact lives. A mentor with no passion is nothing. #ohedchat
A1: Mentors are a safe space. They listen, dispense advice, allow you to make mistakes, then help you to improve for next time. Mentors don’t judge—they learn with you and make you feel safe when needed. #ohedchat
A1-My mentors have been able to be honest with me. We have had real conversations and they didn't hold back when telling me where I needed to grow. Also-my mentors were ALWAYS there when I needed help #ohedchat@brianblum_ and @JaneLeach1 my number 1 mentors
8-year US History teacher from Tennessee. I also coordinate our middle-elementary school #mentoring program. On our 4th snow day and sayin' 'hallelujah!' Excited to be here! #ohedchat
A1: Qualities to look for in a mentor: transparency, willingness to share success, open to new ideas, sense of humor, willing to share failures #ohedchat
A1: Strong mentors are good listeners, passionate, and have experiences that they are willing to share. They have a positive outlook while dealing with real life situations. #ohedchat
A1 Lets see... you’d want someone who possesses selflessness , empathy, is virtuous, knowledgeable and someone who doesn’t need to be in the spotlight ( if you mentor is an egomaniac they’ll never let you “shine” 😜 @DynamicDuda338#Wondertwins#ohedchat
A1. Strong mentors listen and reflect upon past experiences, before answering questions. They are trustworthy, give good guidance, care, believe in you, mutual respect. #ohedchat
A1: A great mentor is someone who will help lead you in the right direction, listen to you, offer advice, lend a helping hand when you’re down, and everywhere in between. #ohedchat
A1: A great mentor doesn't fix my problems.. he or she helps me fix them on my own... gives me tools to tackle the hard stuff knowing they have my back. #ohedchat
A1: A great mentor doesn't fix my problems.. he or she helps me fix them on my own... gives me tools to tackle the hard stuff knowing they have my back. #ohedchat
A1: A great mentor doesn't fix my problems.. he or she helps me fix them on my own... gives me tools to tackle the hard stuff knowing they have my back. #ohedchat
A1-Exactly-mentors have to be honest with us and we have to know that they will tell us if/when we mess up and then help us clean up our mess! #ohedchat
A2: Mentoring skills are always great skills for educating. As a teacher, I need to listen, question, and reflect. The skills may not always be used in the same way, but those skills are still essential. #ohedchat
A2: Mentoring allows for reflection, pause and organization of the work we do. It is disruptive for all the right reasons. Makes us think, re-think and move forward. #ohedchat
A2. Having someone there to lean on, share ideas and learn from can only produce positive results. Likewise, serving as a mentor can help keep you focused, keep your passion, and ensure you are continuing the path of being a lifelong learner #ohedchat
A2 It challenges your growth, your goals. You grow as a person and makes you see the true foundation of education. Mentoring has one strong aspect of all and that is ONE-ON-ONE INTERACTION. It helps you understand communication better. #ohedchat
A2 - everyone, at every stage in their career, needs a mentor, someone who can help you feel validated and help you focus on the right things #ohedchat
A1: A great mentor doesn't fix my problems.. he or she helps me fix them on my own... gives me tools to tackle the hard stuff knowing they have my back. #ohedchat
A2: An objective, yet friendly, outside influence who can give you constructive feedback. Tell you what you need to hear, but do so in a helpful way. #ohedchat
Sooo true! I wouldn't have thought this when I was a first-year teacher, but here in year #27, my mentor is just as important now as in year #1. #ohedchat
Very true. I've had moments as a mentor when I felt like a mirror was being held up to me . . . and I saw something I knew I needed to adjust in my own practice. #ohedchat
A2: everyone, no matter how much experience or knowledge, needs a mentor. They help with arguably one of the most important parts of our job: reflection and self-evaluation. Growth & willingness to evolve to be better are what make us (& Ss) more effective. #ohedchat
#ohedchat A2: apprenticeship/internship/residency models are highly effective in most careers - education should be included. Model best practices, but encourage personal inquiry
A2: Serving as a mentor can only strengthen you as an educator. We must never stop learning, and this is a a perfect opportunity to enrich one’s life. #ohedchat
A2: Mentoring inspires you to reflect. It requires you to dig deep into the reserves of your experience to find a variety of solutions to problems that are old and new. #ohedchat
A2: Isn’t that what we do everyday with Ss?...Mentoring & Facilitating, helping our Ss to challenge and dig deeper to find the layers. Mentoring is modeling, and modeling is what we do everyday with our Ss. #ohedchat
A2 We need to continue to grow and push ourselves to improve. A mentor can help you develop your skills of reflection so you can go beyond where you currently are... #ohedchat
I'm glad you brought up that it causes us to think about a variety of solutions to problem that are old and new-mentoring does cause us to think even more carefully about our choices. #ohedchat
A2: Mentoring inspires you to reflect. It requires you to dig deep into the reserves of your experience to find a variety of solutions to problems that are old and new. #ohedchat
A2: Mentoring is a win-win for the mentor and mentee. As a mentor, it challenges you to pour into someone, to help them problem-solve. It brings you back to the basics of what being an educator is all about - relationships. #ohedchat (1)
As a mentee, it empowers you to embrace your strengths & growth areas, to work towards goals. 1 of my most important mentors constantly reminded me that w/ a growth mindset, there is no failure. (2) #ohedchat
I needed that as 1st yr. T educating Ss in the most impoverished community in our state. Every day brought its own challenges, but my mentor helped me see the light in the darkness. (3) #ohedchat
A2. Mentoring helps develop skills as an educator open-minded for learning and sharing of ideas and points of view. Answer questions and lead and direct your Ss in learning, in reflection using past exp. and seeing what changes we can make to improve thing and give adv #ohedchat
YES! A powerful moment for me as a principal was when I went to a HSTW conference & heard a principal say that she used Title II money to hire a coach for herself. Leadership matters & Mentoring works! #ohedchat
A2: Mentoring is a win-win for the mentor and mentee. As a mentor, it challenges you to pour into someone, to help them problem-solve. It brings you back to the basics of what being an educator is all about - relationships. #ohedchat (1)
A2: The mentor/mentee relationship can help both parties to display more confidence in what they do and demonstrate their skills more effectively. I think this happens through coaching conversations and open reflection. #ohedchat
A2: I learn from both the ppl I mentor and those who mentor me. Reflection benefits us all! Mentoring causes me to think through my “why” in every discussion.
#ohedchat
It really does. When I was a teacher I used to have a lot of visitors in my classroom. I loved it bc it forced me to think even more carefully about every second of my day #ohedchat
A3 Along the road, there will always be bumps. The best thing to do is learn from each other. Someone's work/ideas can be what you need to keep moving forward. LIFE GOES ON! PUSH FORWARD! #ohedchat
A3: This happened to me. One year, my assigned mentor and I did not get along. Ultimately it was still a learning experience. Helped me learn how to interact/work with different types of people in various situations. #ohedchat
A3: When mentoring has been challenging, I've ultimately had to look at myself. It was deep, thoughtful reflection, but it always showed something I needed to pay attention to and improve. #ohedchat
A3-when the partnership isn't working well it's a great time to take a look at ourselves&our leadership style&the style of our partner and think about how best to work with each other. Sometimes when partnerships are difficult they provide a great opportunity to grow #ohedchat
A3. In anything we must reflect on strengths and areas for growth. If a partnership isn’t as successful as we’d like, focus on why and be sure utilize this info going forward. #ohedchat
A3: Learning what we DON’T want to do can be as important as learning what we DO want to emulate. Don’t ask questions unless you want the answers. Don’t play “guess what I am thinking” game with your mentee. #ohedchat
Q3: This is where empathy comes into play. Team work is essential in order for a school to function at its best. Gotta have tough conversations, be willing to admit mistakes, listen to someone else's perspective & ask for feedback. None of us are perfect. #ohedchat
I agree, Jacki, about making us think more carefully about our choices. When we are mentoring someone else, it is powerful to model what we are teaching/coaching. #ohedchat
That is a tough situation to be, especially since we want mentoring relationships to be a place of trust and safety. Makes us look at ourselves carefully. #ohedchat
A3: Sometimes you have to press pause on the situation. That way the mentor and mentee can take stock in what is actually going well, celebrate that, and then move forward to work on what isn’t working. Stay positive! #ohedchat
A3 #ohedchat It's always about learning and the process. Failure of that relationship can help guide toward a better one later. Never allow an obstacle to stop you, knock it down, tunnel under it, climb over, get around, whatever works!
A3-when the partnership isn't working well it's a great time to take a look at ourselves&our leadership style&the style of our partner and think about how best to work with each other. Sometimes when partnerships are difficult they provide a great opportunity to grow #ohedchat
A3: @TimothyKight once said, “Failure is part of success. A wanted part? No.
A necessary part? Yes. Everyone fails. Difference is that successful people learn from it.” Always ask how experiences can teach us. Struggles don’t define us, but they can make us better. #ohedchat
A3: look at it as a chance of what not to do when you get the chance to mentor. Could be a great way to develop communication skills with that person. They mighy not realize they are doing more harm than good.
#ohedchat
A1: A mentor has to be approachable and committed to what we are doing. I’m involved in a mentoring program for pre service teachers and these are two characteristics that help my mentor and I get the most out of each lesson. #ohedchat
So true. I grow so much when I mentor others. And when they ask questions I get to even further reflect on my practice #ohedchat It really is a win/win.
A3: Even in a not-so-positive mentor/mentee relationship there is still an opportunity to see things in a new light, a different angle. Every relationship is a chance to learn something. #ohedchat
point was that having a mentor isn't for just the young or new. Mentors are needed for all of us on this teaching, learning and leading journey. #ohedchat
In reply to
@Jacki_prati, @Allen_5thgrade, @jwrgorbett
Carol ELA Consultant from Long Island dropping into #ohedchat. Snow floated around today and drifted away but brought a walloping #snowstorm last week.
A3: Learning what we DON’T want to do can be as important as learning what we DO want to emulate. Don’t ask questions unless you want the answers. Don’t play “guess what I am thinking” game with your mentee. #ohedchat
#ohedchat A3: personality and philosophical differences can sometimes be a hindrance, but there is always something to learn, even if it's "man, I'm never doing that again." 😉
A3. If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. When we are mentoring , sometimes we need to try different approaches. i.e. prob child in clrm. sit down w/ child and help with homework, find out what's going on! Then gradually start mentoring. #ohedchat
A2: Helping me find lessons in the little things. We reflect on the experiences and my course work so that I can gain the most out of everything. #ohedchat
A3: look at it as a chance of what not to do when you get the chance to mentor. Could be a great way to develop communication skills with that person. They mighy not realize they are doing more harm than good.
#ohedchat
A3: This is a hard situation, and like Kenny Rogers said, "You gotta know when to fold 'em." Sometimes it won't work out, and the relationship should be dissolved. That's okay, too. Use it as a learning opportunity. #ohedchat
A3: For me, a sense of failure shakes things up... Causes me to sift through the experience & find the good, find the part I can take & use in the future. Just like we want to see our students struggle productively, we have to do that as educators, too. #ohedchat
A3: We learn from every experience we have in life whether positive or negative. If the relationship is failing, try to fix it. If it becomes toxic, move on. Either way, learn something that can make your next experience better. #ohedchat

I know what you mean. For me, it's also been a lesson in how things may be challenging, but patience, persistence, & empathy can make situations a bit easier. #ohedchat
love this response. There is much respect when we call it what it is. If it is not working (and a genuine attempt was made) then time to cut out. No feelings hurt. Part of the process. #ohedchat
A3: Any day, situation or partnership is an opportunity to grow. Many times whats realized is the circumstances were not optimum...we start to access what works, what doesn’t work, how do we know unless we have something to compare it to? #ohedchat
I think most educators are wired that way. We want to be "the one." I have to remind myself of this, and just ensure that everyone has someone who is their "one." (even with adults) #ohedchat
A4: The @HilliardSchools does an amazing job as we bring in first-year teachers. They personalize the experience and are intentional with aligning mentors. It is powerful throughout the year(s). #ohedchat
A4-Today was an amazing example of mentoring at my school-teachers signed up to watch one another teach and had time to debrief with one another right after-teachers mentoring teachers! So exciting #ohedchat
I learned the hard way. And it took a long time to be able to understand it. I continue to share the message with others in a similar situation that TIME will pass and it WILL get better. #ohedchat
A4: I'm very fortunate to have colleagues and a director who listen, ask questions, reflect, and share the wisdom of their experiences, and welcome phone calls and text messages. #ohedchat
A4: Authentic situations have been the most successful. When people gravitate towards others and the help each other naturally, those seem the best. Doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be structure, but there needs to be authenticity. #ohedchat
A4: I coordinate a mentoring program between my middle school & an elementary school. I mentor the 8th graders as they mentor the K-5th graders. Teaching them how to lead in a positive way, to be a friend to kids who really need some1 in their lives. Powerful stuff. #ohedchat
A4: early on its great to hear things I was doing right cuz it all felt wrong. Having someone to share tips and ways I could improve made a huge difference.
#idontstinkatbteaching#ohedchat
A4: @bdennis_lhs is an amazing example of mentoring and leadership. She is everyone’s ear. She isn’t afraid to tell you what might not be fun to hear, but is always empathetic and understanding when needed. She NEVER complains. In short, she’s a triple threat. #ohedchat
A few years ago, I paired my eighth graders up with my sixth graders to help them acclimate to middle school. It was promising--some tough challenges with scheduling. I wish I would've been more persistent with it. #ohedchat
A4. In year 1 if the RE program my mentor did a great job providing ideas, providing feedback, and being someone I Could just talk to. Also, Great mentor from a varsity basketball coach helping me grow my knowledge of the game during my coaching days. (@jm3391 ) #ohedchat

A4: When colleagues help each other overcome fears. For example, when a tech-savvy educator helps a less experienced educator explore the possibilities of tech implementation. #ohedchat
A4: Many coaches are mentors to their athletes at our school, former students who come back to teach b/c of mentors at our school, mentoring new teachers in our new teacher program. #ohedchat
#ohedchat A4: @adcut2 did a great job of planning instructional rounds this fall so our new Ts had an opportunity to watch solid teaching in action through the lens of our personalized learning "look fors"and then debriefed, planning another round this spring
A4 Our district has a formal mentorship program where we pair novice teachers with experienced colleagues. Also, we consistently engage in information mentorship with our team to support their efforts to grow in their professional practice #ohedchat
A4: I see it in coaching and teaching. In coaching, I am fortunate enough to be surrounded by older coaches that are training the next generation. In teaching, I see it in the clinical model at OUL. They do an amazing job of getting experiences in a variety of settings. #ohedchat
#ohedchat A4 For me, it's working with a former teacher who now views me as a valuable member of the team and is willing to watch, talk, listen, correct, and push. He is always about where we go next and find out if we can get better. New tech, different lessons, try hard.
Love this idea, Tricia. Transitioning students from elementary to middle school is a necessity. This is often a time of uncertainty for them and support from responsible peers helps assist with social and emotional growth. #ohedchat
A4: For my master's thesis several years back, I studied the effects of mentoring in the classroom on S achievement & self-esteem. Assessment scores rose by more than 20% in six weeks' time. Self-esteem scores rose even higher in the mentors AND mentees. Game-changer. #ohedchat
A4-I'm lucky enough to have instructional coaches at my school they are amazing mentors to teachers-they always seem to know what questions to ask and when-That is a key to effective mentoring #ohedchat
A4: As a new member of a state-level group, and one of just a few teachers, I was encouraged, supported, and challenged by some awesome eduleaders and mentors like @drneilgupta, @edtechgirl@cmsmath. @theJoySama was cheering me on the whole time. #ohedchat
A2) knowing your why gives you purpose with passion; through mentoring you deepen your why through your thoughts and actions. #ohedchat#takeaction@D4Griffin3#OHedchat
I had a high school basketball player connect with one of my students who needed to see success in the classroom and the court. It was an awesome experience for both! #ohedchat
A4: For 24 years I have remained in contact with a teacher that guided me through my first few years of teaching. She has watched over me from a far. Words of encouragement and direction. I appreciate her approach in mentoring and supporting me. #ohedchat
#ohedchat A4: at @DavidsonHS, we have a freshman focus program right before lunch where upperclassman leaders along with teachers mentor our freshman and help them acclimate into HS. @jassenhe does a great job coordinating the program
I had a high school basketball player connect with one of my students who needed to see success in the classroom and the court. It was an awesome experience for both! #ohedchat
A5 It's vital to make the time to join students at lunch, recess, and before or after school. You can also take 2 minutes 10 days in a row (2X10) to make a connection. #ohedchat
Agree, Jacki. The side-by-side support that our Ts receive from instructional coaches is often invaluable. The ICs support to Ts can strengthen their instructional and collaborative engagement. In turn, this strengthens the learning environment for our Ss #ohedchat
A4: we have mentors every day. Seniors helping younger students understand the ramifaction of their actions. Teachers trying to share their knowledge with sokn to be graduates. Staff teaching me and me sharing knowledge.
#ohedchat
A5: Through clubs, extracurricular programs, advisor/advisee programs, small groups. BUT. People > programs. The people in the school (starting w/leadership) have to believe in the importance of it first. #ohedchat
A4: For our freshmen orientation, we have upperclassmen lead and mentor in small groups. This allows for relationships to develop, and it also helps the freshmen understand the desired culture of the building. #ohedchat
A5 - building great mentoring programs in schools starts with the adults. We have to model positive mentoring and relationships with our staff members first. If we don’t walk the walk, the students won’t bother. #ohedchat
A5: The mentor component of #20Time#geniushour has potential. I've seen some powerful growth in not just projects, but confidence, communication, when kids have the opportunity to work with a great mentor. #ohedchat
A5: Ask @jmichaelruiz ! He's helped me develop a middle-elementary school mentoring program here in TN that's making a big difference in the lives of 40+ Ss every school year. "Be somebody who makes everybody feel like a somebody" is our motto a la @iamkidpresident#ohedchat
Partner with another grade level. I have paired with a fifth grade class to work on projects. My 3rd graders look up to them and the 5th graders develop leadership skills. #ohedchat
A5. In Chillicothe, OH a former teacher opened a coffee shop that also serves as a teen mentoring center. All sales fund this part of the shop. Slogan is “gather. Sip. Do good.” Super cool place! And it’s coffee!! #ohedchat
A5: Impacts for Ss come from experiences that are relevant, engaging, & meaningful. Give Ss the opportunity to grow through self-generated projects, service learning opportunities, opportunities to lead. It’s ok for Ts to step back & let Ss take charge of their learning. #ohedchat
A5: we have created advisors. Kids check in at least once a week to reflect on how things are going with classes, grades, missing work, great scores, ECT. Students have a least one adult they trust.
#ohedchat

A5. Asking community engagement tour to occur at your school where the comm. comes in and tour your school and have a list of things you wish to accomplish-"wants". Ask for volunteers to help out and read w/ Ss, contribute in other ways to your school. #ohedchat
I think this is a great start to answering Q5. It would be awesome if every student had a caring educator who stayed in touch with them beyond the year that they were in class together. #ohedchat
I really like these kinds of models. I think programs like "Book Buddies," where older kids are reading with younger kids, have potential to become good mentoring kinds of relationships, too. #ohedchat
A5: when I read stories like this, I am reminded what great potential mentors there are out in our community. Always curious about ways to best utilize this resource #ohedchat
BEST STORY OF THE DAY: South Dallas middle school started a “Breakfast with Dads” program but many dads couldn’t make it and several students didn't have father figures. The school posted a Facebook request for 50 volunteer fathers... 600 fathers from all backgrounds showed up...
A5: we have created advisors. Kids check in at least once a week to reflect on how things are going with classes, grades, missing work, great scores, ECT. Students have a least one adult they trust.
#ohedchat
A5: The state agency I work for teamed up w/ @OHEducation & @WOSU who looked at building community and school mentoring programs. Connecting Ss & the community is huge. #CommunityConnectors#ohedchat
A5 We have established mentorships with our Ss & staff based on their interests. It's powerful to have a S who has an academic or extracurricular interest partner with a professional who has experience in the area. Motivates Ss to stay the course. #ohedchat
#ohedchat This is spot on! The expectations of the people who have come before and are already there must set the standard. Our district doesn't do much S level mentorship, but our staff and upperclassmen set the tone early and often.
A5: Through clubs, extracurricular programs, advisor/advisee programs, small groups. BUT. People > programs. The people in the school (starting w/leadership) have to believe in the importance of it first. #ohedchat

A5: @gmsdk12 and @GMSDPd run the #GMSD#bluechips program that offers ongoing PD for new/new-to-district Ts & pairs each one up with a teacher mentor. Our last PD from @kate_crowder1 was about using social media to our advantage as Ts. It was awesome! #ohedchat
I am going on year 15 of staying in touch with a former 4th grader. She has kept me connected with others in our class. It has been awesome watching them bloom! #ohedchat
A5: We try to do behavior differently, focus more on the Ss, not the behavior. “Build Relationships” with Ss, we can be the best part of their day! #ohedchat
A5. @WhiteTigerPride has created a Den of Ten program @WilsonHillElem - we take our entire school and meet with them in small groups every month. AMAZING! #ohedchat
A5: Through clubs, extracurricular programs, advisor/advisee programs, small groups. BUT. People > programs. The people in the school (starting w/leadership) have to believe in the importance of it first. #ohedchat
From their website, https://t.co/ZrlfZ9ZHKr: "The Paper City Mentoring Project is based on the belief that one caring, supportive, and committed adult can help rewrite the story of a teenager facing adversity." #awesome#ohedchat
#ohedchat A5 mentors can come in all shapes and sizes and in every form. Peer mentors are awesome and helping others navigate New experiences in difficult situations.
These are key points, Lindsay. When our Ss participate in self-directed learning, it gives them the opportunity to go through the iterative process of innovation. Also, it develops ownership in learning and creating knowledge they can apply later #ohedchat
I think setting up a point person for parents that remains the same over time can be a way to start. Also-having parents for example of 8th graders mentor parents of 6th graders who are just starting middle school. #ohedchat
Love this idea--both point person and pairing up the 'veteran parents' of the school with the 'novice.' So much to learn as a parent when the school building is new! #ohedchat
#ohedchat@smgaillard don’t know why I am listening to the Beatles all the time, but this topic reminds me of “I get by with a little help from my friends”
A6: Mentors have come in all shapes and sizes. Whether teachers from my @AthenaTrojans days or from @HeidelbergU. My academic experience was full of great educators/mentors. #ohedchat
I find myself leaning on a few parents who have children in my son's class but who also have older kids. They really help me navigate MS issues and I know they'll help me through HS too. Everyone needs a support system #ohedchat
A6 My #principalsinaction and #middleleaders tribe help me grow every day. I also have a list of "go to" people but the list is too long for Twitter. And then there's my wife, @JPo1992! I am one lucky guy. #ohedchat
#ohedchat A6, two on Twitter @whsgolf and @teachreit teach me things every time I interact with them. Three not on Twitter: Dad, oldest brother, and Jason Johnson. These people are always in my thoughts and I am working to improve to keep up with their standards! #GetBetter
A5) the human brain craves social connections and people desire a sense of belonging; what if we consider creating a program that asks us to engage in a positive social exchange between someone in your community you have not yet found a shared interest. #OHedchat
A6: Even though our content areas are on opposite sides of the spectrum, @lauren_hansel has always been my go-to for advice. She challenges me to be better—I want to be when I watch her teach & see her students’ enthusiasm. I miss her this year, but am so proud of her! #ohedchat
A6: @astar901 inspires me by her empathy & compassion for students. She keeps it real, but we all know she's got our back no matter what. Students are drawn to her bc she's a fierce problem solver who care. She's someone I can count on to tell me the truth. #ohedchat#sgod
A6: @ASchirg (great guy all around) gave a me a chance to spread my wings. Still look to him for guidance.
Mike Hudak...anothet great guy helping me survivor my 1st yr as an admin.
#ohedchat
A6 My leadership team, faculty, staff, & central office leadership help facilitate my professional growth daily. Very fortunate to have these individuals who contribute to my increased leadership capacity to serve our Ss #ohedchat
A6. Honestly, a lot of people in and out of education have made a big impact on my leadership and growth both personally and professionally. Colleagues at my previous district played a Role & the colleagues and admin at my new district have already made a huge impact! #ohedchat
A6: @astar901 inspires me by her empathy & compassion for students. She keeps it real, but we all know she's got our back no matter what. Students are drawn to her bc she's a fierce problem solver who cares. She's someone I can count on to tell me the truth. #ohedchat#sgod
I'm fortunate my good friends and neighbors all have kids ahead of us--one just one year ahead, so "current." I'd never thought about this aspect before. #ohedchat
A6: I have many. Mine have changed based on where I am in my journey. The mentee always selects the mentor, so be sure to make sure your needs as a mentee are being met at different stages. #ohedchat
A6 Fellow teachers that I collaborate with--we share successes, failures, new ideas, we ask ? that push us to find new ways to engage our students. I'm also blessed to have found #aspiringleaders@jodiepierpoint#ohedchat
A6: My own teachers and coaches and both of my parents (who were also in education) have shaped me into who I am today. Of course, I have met so many more throughout my career in all kinds of places, including Twitter! #ohedchat
A5: By reaching out and inquiring about the real needs of our communities instead of assuming that we already know and planning based on our opinions. #ohedchat

#ohedchat A6: I am the product of many amazing mentors in my career, too numerous to tag. I am partial to @1BradAnderson , however. He keeps it real. 👍
A6: @jmichaelruiz helps me navigate really tough situations with grace & calm. He's a visionary leader who keeps students at the center. He helps me remember that relationships and kids are what we should all be about. #inspiring#ohedchat
