The #educoach hashtag is used by instructional coaches around the world. We chat each Wednesday at 8pm CST on Twitter and use the hashtag throughout the week to share resources, ask questions and collaborate with instructional coaches.
Lauren, Instructional Coach, Indiana. My #eduwin is celebrating a wonderful start to the school year! Looking forward to co-moderating with @KathyPerret tonight! #educoach
Good evening. I'm Kathy - on of the #educoach co-moderators. I'm in Iowa. I serve as an educational consultant, coach/administrator trainer and virtual coach. A success was attending an intense literacy training this week.
Andrea, MS Instructional Coach from WI. Success this week was sharing successes and challenges virtually with a new cohort of teachers implementing PL in a nearby district. #educoach
Good evening! I'm Kristi from Britt, IA. Success = spending short-notice planned time with family. Things fell into place and everything was incredible. #educoach
My long drives to the training gave me time to read/listen to most of Girl Wash Your Face by @msrachelhollis I had attended the #mademoremoremovie a week ago. Inspired to make some changes! #educoach
It was reassuring from the other practitioners that were interviewed that we have some of the same challenges and I feel like we're at a place where we've spent the summer resolving some of those. #educoach
Hello everyone! I’m Stephanie from Texas. A success for me this week was presenting to a group of instructional coaches from my district who want to grow in their capacity. #educoach
Doesn't it feel great to have those year under your belt. Many of the coaches I work with and coach say that the third year is when they really start to see things change with coaching. #educoach
Let’s get started with tonight’s topic: Chapters 9, 10, and 11 of Creating a Culture of Reflective Practice by @educationhall and @alisasimeral#educoach
A1: I think our ability to help support and bring data to the table can be so helpful also brainstorming ideas on teaching strategies is helpful #educoach
A1 #educoach How a coach or leader questions, and reflects helps to set the culture of the team. Are you modeling a no-judgment zone? Everyone needs to be respected.
A1. If facilitated correctly, they become an integral part of the team. Someone to challenge by asking questions and support by providing feedback. #educoach
A1 - I feel like the IC should have knowledge and skills developed to move the conversations in the direction to support district needs and staff development. #educoach
Q2 Feedback is vital to capacity-building. What prompts do you lean on to generate ongoing feedback and dialogue? What prompts would you add to those listed in figure 9.2? #educoach
It was good. It was through the @IAReadinghttps://t.co/rHaUwocYGa. You probably have trainers in your area. We had a good cross section of people getting trained to be trainers. #educoach

A2- I definitely start by ask if they reached their goal. If it went well, I probe with asking them what factors made it go so well. If they did not reach goal, I ask what would need to happen for them to reach their goal. #educoach
A2: I usually like to lead with questions that allow for reflection on the lesson. I try not to provide too much up front. The same thing with goal setting. I ask questions before providing input. #educoach
Absolutely! Much like our learners, our colleagues can’t benefit from a one size fits all approach. We have to be responsive to where they are in their progression of growth and adapt our feedback/dialogue to match. #educoach

Thanks for sharing this beautiful quote @KerryMitchell57 - What a lovely way to sum up the 2 fun days of thinking, discussion and reflection we had here at GCI HQ.

I am strongly interested in building a Twitter list of Math Education Disruptors! If you would like to be added to this list, please let me know! If you are exhibiting fearlessness, passion, and a deep interest in a wide variety of mathematics...you are disrupting! #iteachmath
A3: Have had good results w/ planning and teaching with teachers for periods of time, serving as a mentor for Ss in the grade so that I get an inside perspective, and leading Ts through a spring design process to solve challenges in their practice. #educoach
My school is a student-centered coaching school. We have been using the work of Diane Sweeney as our guide. We have had very positive feedback from teachers. #educoach
Always helpful when the conversation is focused less on you vs. me, yet instead on student learning and what we can do TOGETHER to make impact. #educoach
A4 - No different than students. Meet them where they are and move them towards the goal. Opportunity to do harm, not good, when we forget what level of reflection the teachers are currently comfortable with. #educoach
A4: There is a point in which teachers can become overwhelmed and could cause more harm than good and strain relationships. I frequently see myself as the Lorax "I speak for the trees". I have a ground level view on what is happening to help guide how time is spent. #educoach
A4- I think remembering that our job isn’t to “fix” someone and create mini-me’s is critical. My job is to bring out the best in each teacher, keeping in mind their own individual capacity. I must foster a mindset that we all have room to grow. #educoach
A5 One way to help others foster self-awareness is by short prompts/reminders such as one I used tonight - remember to look for the positives in a difficult situations. What can you be grateful for. #educoach

A5: Provide time for reflection and the opportunity for Ts to see one another's classrooms. Looking to see how we can incorporate Habits of Mind w/ staff like we do with students. #educoach
A5 Asking reflective questions but with accountability is my route. I like to leave a few questions for them to think about after we meet. I give them a few days to truly reflect, then we meet again to discuss. I feel like time gave us more honest reflections. #educoach
A5 I actually created a FLIPGRID for principals and "veteran teachers" to share their trial and success stories. The goal is to share with our new teachers to help start the dialogue. #educoach.
Most of them have been. I usually have videotaped myself having conversations so they’ve seen me do it. I usually let them watch the video alone first #educoach
A6: There has to be a meaningful relationship in place in order to fully trust in the change process, which also often requires vulnerability within the partnership. #educoach
A6 Relationships are key! In order for coaching to be most effective, the 7 partnership principles must be present. Relationships are built on trust and honesty. Without a relationship, coaching is surface level. #educoach
A6: Relationships FIRST and always. This was an easy win for me when first starting out coaching. I even went as far as to study teacher web pages to learn names my first week on the job. It caught some by surprise. #educoach
I'm hoping to do this better with our learning management system this year. The more we can parallel what we expect with Ss, the bigger wins we'll experience and it's not another thing. #educoach
Q8 In our personal and professional lives, we know we SHOULD be doing certain things, yet we are ACTUALLY doing something else. This is a knowing-doing gap. What are some examples of a knowing-doing gap that you have encountered? #educoach
A7 I like to take pictures and email the teachers all the great things that are happeningacross the campus. Also, facilitating teacher spot-lights has helped to highlight strengths. Twitter has made an impact as well. Teachers love to have their pictures shared. #educoach
A8 Definitely diet and exercise. I know exactly what I should be eating, but I have MANY excuses for why I can't follow the program with fidelity. #educoach
“Gift” them a Twitter handle! It has worked to show many of my colleagues to the power and value of Twitter! Take the effort of setting it up off their plates. #educoach
A9: At the beginning of the year set my rocks, pebbles, and sand categories and discuss them with building and district leaders. I also keep track of time on my calendar on how time is spent and reflect and recalculate often. #educoach
A8 Following a healthy living style. I know I should get up early to workout bc I know I’ll be tired after work, but sleeping in 30 extra minutes always wins! #educoach
A8: I find this gap happen when I am in the thick of things and get busy. My listening is impacted and I have to mindfully set other things aside to focus on what’s on the other person’s mind. #educoach
