Tonight’s questions are based on “Mindfulness for Teachers” by @TishJennings. She states #Mindfulness can help us be more effective at reducing conflict and developing more positive ways of relating in the classroom, which can help us feel more job satisfaction. #SquirrelsChat
In “Mindfulness for Teachers,” @TishJennings states that #mindfulness helps us be more positive as we train our minds consciously to become more aware of our inner and outer experience, and learn how to manage our emotions. #SquirrelsChat@squirrels
Looking forward to learning more about #mindfulness tonight! Plus we'll have a giveaway of "Mindfulness for Teachers" for one lucky participant! #squirrelschat@Squirrels

What is mindfulness? Definitions vary, but @TishJennings likes to think of it this way: attending to things in the moment with curiosity and acceptance. #SquirrelsChat@squirrels
A1: #Mindfulness involves acceptance. Pay attention to other peoples' thoughts and feelings in order to better understand them. Leads to better understanding and less arguments. We must be aware of ourselves and others #SquirrelsChat
The students had to actually research their words. They had to know the definition, synonyms and how they wanted to use it to focus on their learning. Some of the words were peace, focus and hope. #SquirrelsChat#Mindfulness
Hey followers -- Great way to practice mindfulness with your students right here. Have them pick a word and use it as a guide for their learning. #SquirrelsChat

A3 Being mindful allows me to recognize signs of potential burn out or triggers for stress. Then I can steer myself to positive behaviors and get myself back on track #squirrelschat
A3: #mindfulness helps us to be aware of the needs and diversity of our students. If we can "speak" their language and know their background, we can teach them more effectively. #SquirrelsChat
A4: I think that @mcharlt had it right in her answer to Q3. It helps us be aware of needs and diversity. It helps us teach more effectively. #SquirrelsChat
A4: what i said before: #mindfulness helps us to be aware of the needs and diversity of our students. If we can "speak" their language and know their background, we can teach them more effectively. #SquirrelsChat
A4: It’s important to understand that students might act a certain way not to undermine you, but because of their own insecurities or perceived weaknesses. Mindfulness helps you put these behaviors in context and relate/communicate with them more effectively. #SquirrelsChat
A5: We must get to the root cause of the behavior to effectively correct it. Mutual respect with a teacher can change the entire concept of education for a child. Being aware of them as an individual means you take the time to listen to them and ask ?s #SquirrelsChat

A3-Being able to recognize when I’m getting anxious about new procedures reminds that my students are having new ideas coming at them everyday. I need to help them learn coping methods . #SquirrelsChat
A4-my colleagues and I always say how we want are admins to treat us with respect and give us the benefit of the doubt. I can do the same for my students 😊#SquirrelsChat
A6: A school that promotes #mindfulness is going to have happier students, teachers and administrators, which better promotes learning and community #squirrelschat
A6: when teachers and students are mindful of each other’s person, talents and needs community builds itself. We can use own own individual strengths to build up others. #squirrelschat
A6: #mindfulness builds positive relationships between all involved. It can change the dialogue between school and home, parents to child, teacher to child, and eventually neighbor to neighbor. Mutual respect and understanding of our diverse opinions is crucial! #SquirrelsChat
A5-I try and recognize my triggers with difficult Ss. If I pay attention to them and my reaction, it helps in responding with a firm kindness. #squirrelschat
A7: You must remind yourself that there's always more to life than the individual problem or frustration you may be dealing with at any given moment. Taking a walk to think and getting some fresh air always helps. #SquirrelsChat
A7: Drawing helps me slow down and focus on small details. I'm not very good but drawing whistling animals really gives me a lot of pleasure in life! #squirrelschat
Thank you to everyone that participated tonight! I know I'm already thinking of ways to be more mindful at work and at home. Check back tomorrow morning for the lucky winner of "Mindfulness for Educators" #squirrelschat
A6-I think mindfulness can build school community as staff and students learn that behaviors and beliefs have an effect not only on oneself but others. A common sense of purpose drives success. #squirrelschat
